Northview’s Makaila Garcia belts two homers to lead Vikes to an 11-1 win over Covina

Just watched the best leadoff hitter in the Valley. With a determinted look and a swing that matched it, Makaila Garcia ended the game with a three-run homer to center to give Northview an 11-1 victory over visiting Covina in a mercy-shortened five-inning game. “I always have this little song in my head to keep me relaxed,” Garcia explained. “But I’m not going to lie, I went up there thinking I wanted to end the game.” After the first round of the Valle Vista league, San Dimas, Covina and Northview are all tied with 4-1 records. Garcia belted two homers, her fifth and sixth of the season in a 4-for-4 performance with four runs scored. She came into the game batting almost .600, and is one of the most imposing lead-off hitters I’ve seen in a while. Granted, it’s just the first half of league and I haven’t seen everyone, but I walked away today mighty impressed .
