National Classic Update: Wooden bats no problem for Bishop Amat, Rio Ruiz hits a grand slam, Lancers beat Notre Dame Prep 11-1; South Hills game postponed until Tuesday at 9 a.m.

Bishop Amat wins: Rio Ruiz hit a grand slam with a wooden bat, which was no problem for the rest of the Amat hitters in an 11-1 victory over defending champion Notre Dame Prep (Arizona) in the first round of the National Classic on Monday. Amat will play its second round at El Dorado High School on Tuesday at 2 p.m., against the winner of Palm Desert and Edison, which was rained out and will be played at 9 a.m., at Edison with the winner playing Amat right afterward.

Rain Update: South Hills’ opening game with Salpointe was pushed back to Tuesday at Esperanza high school because of rain on Monday. If the Huskies win tomorrow’s opener, they will play the second-round at 1 p.m.
