Baseball: Glendora routs Diamond Bar 11-4; Damien squeezes out 3-2 win over Chino Hills; Gabrielino blows insurmountable lead with a no-hitter in 7th, then comes back

Glendora 11, Diamond Bar 4: Brennan Salgado’s pinch-hit grand slam punctuated Glendora High School’s seven-run fifth inning Wednesday en route to an 11-4 victory over visiting Diamond Bar to take over sole possession of first place in the Sierra League.

Damien 3, Chino Hills 2: It wasn’t elimination day in the Sierra League on Wednesday. But the Damien and Chino Hills high school baseball teams also knew neither could afford a loss and still entertain thoughts about a league title. The host Spartans made sure that worry was on the Huskies. Nick Amrhein and Antonio Gonzales combined on a five-hitter and Damien stayed a game behind league leader Glendora with a 3-2 victory at Tom Carroll Field.

Gabrielino 8, South El Monte 7: The Gabrielino and South El Monte high school baseball teams have been through this before. They have rallied from big deficits this season. Gabrielino came back from a 12-run deficit to win last week. South El Monte has rallied from seven runs down three times. Wednesday afternoon, Gabrielino pitcher Angel Acosta had a no-hitter and 7-0 lead through six innings. For Gabrielino, the game began to unravel. For South El Monte, it was time to come alive. South El Monte scored seven runs in the inning to tie the game, but pinch hitter Nathaniel Sarkar’s line-drive single to center field in the bottom of the inning gave Gabrielino an 8-7 Mission Valley League victory.
