Baseball: Glendora routs Diamond Bar 11-4; Damien squeezes out 3-2 win over Chino Hills; Gabrielino blows insurmountable lead with a no-hitter in 7th, then comes back

Glendora 11, Diamond Bar 4: Brennan Salgado’s pinch-hit grand slam punctuated Glendora High School’s seven-run fifth inning Wednesday en route to an 11-4 victory over visiting Diamond Bar to take over sole possession of first place in the Sierra League.

Damien 3, Chino Hills 2: It wasn’t elimination day in the Sierra League on Wednesday. But the Damien and Chino Hills high school baseball teams also knew neither could afford a loss and still entertain thoughts about a league title. The host Spartans made sure that worry was on the Huskies. Nick Amrhein and Antonio Gonzales combined on a five-hitter and Damien stayed a game behind league leader Glendora with a 3-2 victory at Tom Carroll Field.

Gabrielino 8, South El Monte 7: The Gabrielino and South El Monte high school baseball teams have been through this before. They have rallied from big deficits this season. Gabrielino came back from a 12-run deficit to win last week. South El Monte has rallied from seven runs down three times. Wednesday afternoon, Gabrielino pitcher Angel Acosta had a no-hitter and 7-0 lead through six innings. For Gabrielino, the game began to unravel. For South El Monte, it was time to come alive. South El Monte scored seven runs in the inning to tie the game, but pinch hitter Nathaniel Sarkar’s line-drive single to center field in the bottom of the inning gave Gabrielino an 8-7 Mission Valley League victory.

I hope they use Kenny in the closer roll today and start him Friday. Kid does not throw many pitches cause he is around the zone and has filthy stuff. Kid is a bulldog and is up for the task, big question is will they be in the game at the end to use him in the closer roll?

  • FYI

    Damien’s record is 10-4, not 9-4.

  • ????

Does anyone know if Plutko is getting the nod today?

  • BullPen

Now this is the coverage that the SL is worthy of. This afternoon should be some real fun. I haven’t decided which game I will go to, but if Plutko and Matthews are on the mound, that’s where I’ll be. If not, I’ll be at Damien. May the best teams win!

  • FredJ

As soon as I find out who’s pitching, I’ll twitter it, I plan on getting there around 2:30

  • In the know

It will be Cage today for G-town

  • ?

Who’s pitching? for Glendora & Db

  • Amat #1

Just wondering did Amat win or lose yesterday. Who pitched for Amat.

  • Hmmm

Who pitched for Diamond Bar, and Glendora?

  • kh

d-bars in for a long second half,
thats all am going to say,the presure is melting on the hot d.b. hitters who shot out of the gate on fire, swinging under and popping up on balls will never win you a batting title.stay on top and shorten your swing, with two strikes the middle should be the only thing your thinking.
i dont want to give too much infor.
the dukes might try to hire me.
    good win g-town.
the kid who had the grand 4 bagger off the bench, plays 3 sack too.
to win it all ,you want his stick in the line up.he almost beat k.c. out of the batting title a few years ago in pony ball, but we got him on the last at bat of the season, the baseball gods got him and he knows why.
you cant mess with baseball gods, never never ,its like your ex.,there not going any where, deal with it.g-town has 4 solid left handed hitters.would love too see them all in a row against some rhp.would be tough to beat them any righty face all the lefties.
    thats enough of g-town,
theres nobody hotter the the bearcats.

Congratulations to Eddie Pedroza in throwing the Perfect Game against Ganesha. Quite a performance I must say. He will treasure that for a lifetime. Along with Northview smashing Ganesha 13-0, Covina mercied Pomona today 13-3 and I’m sure San Dimas and Baldwin Park was a good one.

    “LET’S FINISH IT!!!”

  • DBHS

I find it interesting that you all bash on “Shi*ley” when he loses and notso when he’s having success. Maybe I’m too new to this blog and therefore ignorant but thats just my impression. Take the crow, and TURN THE PAGE! Gosh, DB wagon jump-off’ers

  • dbhs-yes

    To DBHS…I completely agree!

  • DBfan

Dbar’s OK, they got KMat,count his next 4 or 5 start as wins, Dbar will finish with 15 some wins. So, if you are lucky enough you can still win one game in the playoff. Dbar’s varsity hitter looks really bad, I can give you a clue, You just need to walk Pak, Crowe, and KMat, then Dbar will never score. They need find some hitters really bad. I doubt everybody think this way. fred says Dbar got sticks, I don’t agree. Too many free swingers.

  • Go Brahmas

To DBHS…You”re right, except this person/people are complaining when the brahmas win. What’s that all about?

  • DamienScore

Congrats to Damien! Good jobs boys. Things are starting to gel just when we need them. Congrats to the players and to Coach Leyva. Friday is a must win, go get boys.

  • go Brahmas

To DBfan, giving advice to the opposition? You sound like a faux fan to me or maybe just kh.

  • Fundamentals

Took in the Damien/CH game yesterday! All this hype about the Sierra really didnt impress. NV, Bonita, SHHS, CO and could handle this league with ease!

Average arms on the mound, situational hitting needs to improve! Damien executed one time but CH 2B didnt hold ground and made it look easy. Damien coached killed rallies by not coaching up in the situations presented. If you hit into double plays in prior innings, would think 1st and 3rd next time your running! Pretty basic stuff!

LL pop up between 2b and RF was game killer for CH! Communication kills you in those types of situations.

Game of inches when you cross the white lines!

  • It’s just a game

    Fundamentals,

As luck would have it, or possible misfortune for CO & SHHS, we’ll all get to see how easy the Sierra is for them next season.

By the way, the “average arms on the mound” for Damien gave up 5 hits total and only 2 after the first inning. Don’t forget one of the double plays Damien hit into was a line drive back to the pitcher with bases loaded and one out. Not much you can do about that, unlucky.

Chino Hills left fielder made an “ESPN Top 10 Play” diving catch that saved at least one run. “LL pop up between 2b and RF”, that happens in EVERY league and at EVERY level… just part of the game, a line drive in the book. “CH 2B didnt hold ground”, that was a hit and run play, he was moving to cover second base… kinda what it’s designed to do. “Game of inches when you cross the white lines!” You’re absolutely right on that one.

Be as unimpressed as you want with the Sierra League, just remember the Sierra #3 made the CIF Quarters last year and lost to the eventual DII Champs, Crespi, and the Sierra #4 made it to the Semi’s.

    fundalmentals
i fill the same way man.
watched glendora twice and played and spotted d.b. 8 runs in two inn. and came back and kicked there ass.
all about amat winning against div.1 teams

not impressed at all serria league.same kids we have all grownin up with and played l.l. with now they go to amat, damien. there up on cloud nine, not buying into it.
we at bonita are the hottest team in town ,and the writer quotes dont know if there lucky or good.why dont you asks the other coach who just got his lunch handed to him, maybe he will give you a nice respond.
the play evan h made late in the game to keep c.o. from a big late run.the ball was hit hit into the gap, only evan h plays off the bag like nobody ive ever saw, dame he looks out of position but my god the plays hes saves already has won games for us.,
well back to the play of the game,
evan leaps high in the air snags the ball on his way down fires to second to finish the double play,we had another great play in the outfield earlier to stop c.o. charge.there not lucky, its long hours of coaches and fathers spending precious time with there loved ones.
why because we have athletes on the team, evan was the punter of the year. played qb defense same with matty g . k.c. h. josh y. mult. sports athletes.sorry tribune these games are won on the field ,not in the press room floor.the love is on the team at bonita we all have are jobs to do.league champs c.i.f. champs .then the season will be the bomb,we will party like its 1994,prince song.hes larrys best friend.

  • GO DBHS

I agree with DBHS as well….I think Shi*ley does relate with the team…maybe the ones that feel like he does not are kids that are not relatable. Looks like he relates with them but when its time to do the job its time to do the job. Just from what i have scene this coach takes this team very seriously

    KH……..

After watching Glendora play a couple of times, what do you think Bonita would do against that Glendora pitching staff? Would your hitters have a chance?

  • kh

    scouting report.
am not going to cut down any single pitcher on the g- squad.

  • Fundamentals

    ITS A GAME

What was the count prior to the come back for the BIG DP? Was the player at the plate a good hitter? Steal play should have been on first or second pitch and not taken yourself out of a big inning. Damn that simply BB!

Where was the ball hit on the hit and run? Did it go in the hole? Players are taught to cheat in DB depth not break to bag with the runner and give up and easy DB! Ball wasn’t even out the pitcher hand. Just bad fuundamentals!

KH, maybe Damien needs a coaching clinic!

  • DBfan

To go brahmas, No, I am from the Fox News Channel, “Fair & Balanced”.

I watch the team from the scouting point of view. DB has problems, but they also have Kenny, the first rounder next year. That’s about it, without kenny, DB will be at the bottom of the league, that’s the fact. We can still ride on Kenny’s back for one more year, You better keep him healthy and happy. That’s all coaches can do for now. Lacking of talents is obvious from what I can see. Maybe the coaches don’t know what talents are, otherwise they could have developed better players by themself over the past few years. Don’t blame Shibley for that. It’s all “Bush”‘s fault…Just kidding!

  • go Brahmas

To DBfan: Ok…you’re off the hook. feelin the republican love man.

  • ?

DBfan and KH What are u both smokeing.
Diamond Bar has plenty of talent. Your from the Fox News Channel ha! my ass.. Kh worry about your
own team. Diamond Bar will make the playoffs.

  • Duh????

    Geez kh,

You really are a blithering idiot!!! All of the bs you throw on this blog makes me want to puke!! If you ever were a “ballplayer”, any coach or teammate would be sickened by your bs!!! You are a legend in your own mind and that dream is long past over, obviously!!
I know BHS as well as you do and I give the kids and Coach Knott kudos, but you are an embarrassment to the coach, the team and the school!!
Get a life or a job because you obviously have nothing better to do. Being a homer is not the issue, the lack of knowledge of the game and of other teams is quite evident.
Have another (“I have not had a drink in years”?)to go with your spew!!!
Get a life and leave these kids and teams alone!!!

  • Ken called it early, Bonita would surprise everyone!

    Duh???

I”m around Bonita baseball as well and KH is harmless. He’s vocal and a bit over the top on these blogs but in person he’s one heck of a guy. I know it’s tough to read his stuff but he doesn’t hide behind a screen name and puts his feelings out there for everyone to see. He’s embarassed no one, least of all his son who’s actually a great kid. Why is it that parents with great kids are said to be terrible and parenst with terrible kids are said to be okie dokie?

Keep up the good work ken. You called it at the beginning of the season, Bonita would be better this year and they are getting it done.Maybe last year’s player were more talented but this team plays better together.

I say leave ken alone, he’s got tons of La Verne peopel who admire his convictions and baseball love and allow for his blog comments as nothing more than part of his recovery.

One day at a time Ken.
