Friday Baseball: Glendora, Diamond Bar and Damien still in a tight race in the Sierra, all looking to complete sweep this afternoon

Lost in all the fun of Bishop Amat and South Hills the other day was the Sierra League race, where our three locals remain in a tight race for the league title. Glendora clobbered Chino Hills 13-5 on Wednesday while Diamond Bar took care of Chino 8-3 and Damien defeated Ayala 19-6. The same teams meet again this afternoon with Glendora (17-2-1, 8-2) holding a one-game edge over Diamond Bar (13-7, 7-3) and Damien (14-5, 7-3).

Friday’s games
Glendora at Chino Hills, 3:15 p.m.
Diamond Bar at Chino, 3:15 p.m.
Ayala at Damien, 3:15 p.m.

Glendora is a lock to win the sierra league title due to winning tiebreakers against both Diamond Bar and Damien. All they have left in league is the Chino schools. Now they will be the #1 team in D2 with the loss of REV to Redlands 4-3. The brahmas need to win both games vs Damien to get the important tie breaker.

  • DamienScore

Hey Socal! Dbar vs Damien will be a great back to back match-up. Sounds like games of the week to me. We hold the upper hand with a win over Dbar in round one. If we take one more and win out we go as #2. In either case, the SL will be represented well in Div II. GO SPARTANS!

  • DB Brahmas

Nice game Coach Shibs and Diamond Bar Brahmas!

  • Spartan senior

Wasn’t a witness but I heard Damien was down 9-3 vs ayala then came back to win 10-3!

  • DamienScore

Holy Smokes! Damien wins, 10-9 with walk-off single by Sr, C, Ortega, to score winning run. Going into bottom 7, Damien down 3-9, but pulls it out. Can you say asleep at the wheel. Ayala battled while we watched. Wake up boys! We will take it anyway we can get them, but that was too close. Dbar next week.

    Hey KH,

You are out there man, waaaaay out there, but always go for a laugh. Take care of yourself.

  • Ken lays out for the catch!

Ken those that love openly and without reservation seem comical to those that live uptight lives. I applaud your limitless love of your son, the game you love and life itself. Don’t ever change. How many can say they live that open a life. that come on here and leave their name, survive the attacks and still never run and hide, few if any. i hope the road is going strong. i did a 20 year “ride” myself and learned to deal with life on life’s terms. the first few years are tough as all the world refocuses. yes there will be moments when others don’t understand your renewed passion for life but never mind them. your son is a lucky young man…and so are you. best of luck. I’d love to take in a bonita game once to see how the team is doing. one thing I know…you’ll be there giving your 100% support for the Bearcats!

Why nobody cares DBar loss to Chino? Save pitchers for Damien back to back? Kenny will pitch at Damien next Wednesday, Then Omana pitch at home. To get two wins against Second place Damien, thus DBar will secure a second place finish in the league. It’s apparently DBar can not contend for SL Champion, the coaches made a big gamble, let Chino go, fight the SPARTANS till death. Smart, very smart…… I hope the Damiens will be cooperating…haha…

I care that Diamond Bar loss to Chino. You need to win every game possible to improve your overall record and seeding in the cifss playoffs. I did not see the score or stats posted on max preps. Last time the brahmas were in the playoffs was when Gary Brown was a senior and the team finished 2nd. However due to their overall record they had to travel to REV for a first round game and lost.
I see where Glendora edged out Chino Hills 6-5 winning in the bottom of the 7th inning. Ace sr Adam Plutko gave up 4 earned runs accoring to MP and 3 home runs.
In CBL play Rialto now looks like the 2nd place team beating Yucaipa 11-10 winning in the bottom of the 7th. They now have 2 wins vs Yucaipa and my finish 2nd in the CBL. Some unlucky league champion may have to face Yucaipa in round one.
REV pounded Eisenhower 17-4 and faces Yucaipa next wed.

    Hey KH,

    It’s
We have a baseball god, in OUR corner, NOT are.

    Anyway,

I must say I tip my cap to a man who loves the game as much as I do. I tip my cap to a man who has the love for his kid the same way I do. I also tip my cap to you for coming in here and saying what you feel, even though at times you make no sense period. You have what 90% of others in here and elsewhere in our world do NOT have, and thats balls, and courage to take a pounding, and never shy away about returning.

I am 45 yrs old, and it all honesty it took me 32 of those years to figure out who I was. I have lived both sides. I have two successfull business now with a great family, drive nice cars, and go on nice vacations. BUT I was also on the other side. I have been alone, have missed work becasue i couldn’t get out of bed from partying the night before. I have had no money, had my electricity turned off at age 22 becasue I would rather party, then pay the bill.
Life can be considered a game, its which side you want to be on.
KH—- KEEP doing what your doing and take one day at a time, and remember, success is EARNED NOT GIVEN. So it doesn’t matter how long it takes someone, just KEEP GOING!

I will see how my schedule looks, and try to get to the Bonita game Tuesday vs Wilson. I will be sure to come up and introduce myself!

  • the sad thing is

Guillen had a perfect game through 3 innings and had 6 strikeouts in those 3 innings. Then in the top of the 4 he lost his perfect game and no hitter in consecutive at bats.
Also this has to be a wake up call to Leyva. If you want to let the young guys play or the starters rest make sure you have at least 8 run lead.

  • Please

Will somebody please fire the West Covina Baseball Coaching staff!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Or Lorenger and staff just Quit!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • miramonte fan

Bonita was a little flat and made some key errors losing to D ranch 5-4 in the 7th inning.

Highley hits a bomb HR to make the game 4-1 after scoring 3 runs in first. He then gets big hit in bottom of 7th to put pressure on Dranch. Viramontes closed em out for lengyel who pitched a gem after getting hit by line drive by first batter of game.

D ranch Bridgewater continued hot hitting leading off the 7th with a double, then Derek Goodwin knocked him in for the win.

Great game. Bonita pretty much clinched the league by winning tuesday vs dranch. Playing for the seed now.

  • What??

    Hey DB Fan,

That makes absolutely no sense. A coach never ever coaches to lose. Are you telling me Matthews didn’t pitch at all last week? There is something more to this. Why would you have your pitcher go 12 days with/o pitching. Makes no pitching sense at all.

  • While we”re on the topic

    To Baseball NUT,

It’s KEEP doing what you’re doing, not KEEP doing what your doing.

I know you have a sense of humor. Just having some fun with you. Keep the posts coming.

  • DBfan

    To “What?? said:
    Hey DB Fan,

Yes, KM didn’t pitch at last week. I know coaches
won’t coach to lose. But not using KM last week doesn’t mean we have to lose. We got Damien come up back to back, We have to win both game to finsh second in the league. Omana has good home ERA but got killed in the away games. So, what do you do as a coach? I say pitch KM at Damien Wednesday to secure one win, and let Omana pitch at home try to get another win. Plus we’ve been riding on KM’s arm for the long season, we should give him the extra rest, so he will be fresh against the tough Spatans. That’s why we use 3rd string pitcher last friday, not coach to lose, but unfortunately we can’t handle Chino.

  • Wait, what???

Mathews did pitch at the Friday game vs. Ayala. Have a look at the maxpreps stats.

wtf! Ayala coaching staff, please quit cause your embarrassing our boys..

  • David

Ayala’s baseball game yesterday against Damien, was ridiculously coached by the staff, the coach should be embarrassed and should resign.. now!!..

if you going to colleges that are commited to college world series berth than why are u going to csun or usc. Neither will be going there anytime soon.

    sincerely,

  • Sierra League Cancers

    What is up with Ayala?

Always with the happy trigger finger with coaches. I hear the football coach is under fire as well and is looking to move. That came as a complete shock to me but that source is iron clad. The basketball program is controlled by the Ponce Travel Show Case Circus and now the baseball parents are at it as well. Years ago the Sierra League was a hot bed for great coaches in all sports and slowly the Sierra League is caving in to the Travel Ball Syndrome of Daddies Know Best politics and apathy. Too bad they didn’t kick out Ayala and keep Glendora, at least they compete and have prettier Mommies.

  • Wake up Ayala

Your coaching staff are real people, with real lives, and real feelings!!! They cannot hit every ball, field every ball hit, make every pitch, make every call…or even begin to psyco analyze every player or their parents. it’s baseball.

I hope you have a good Sunday…food for thought.

  • kh

schools go in cycles, dont tell me usc dosnt strave for the playoff.
been there and will be there again.
csun has been there and after yesterday visit thats whats on there plate,to be there again.
they have alot of nice things to offer.not being a football power house the baseball players take high demand in there atheletes.nice weight room justput 400k into it.hes only a jr. no hurrys but i rally like the coaching staff, and there style of baseball.thats important.they dont let the players wonder off on grades.real important.

Not sure of the DB strategy trying to be utilized on Friday v Chino. Hopefully this won’t be the beginning of a late season meltdown like last year!

Confidence is a major contributor in winning! Spartans get a “comeback win” and the confidence builds, DB “let’s one go in preparation for a showdown with the Spartans”?? Not sure that was a good idea.

KM will probably pitch the Friday game.
Loves to “wow” the home crowd, especially Mom!!

KM is the “Friday” pitcher. At the next level you pitch your best pitcher on Fridays to establish the weekend series. Consistency is the key.

7 or 8 games pitched this season should not necessitate a 2 week layoff. Maybe Mom has more influence than we know.

I guess we will find out this week!!

    Good Luck Brahmas!!

    Deja Vu All Over Again?!?!

I suspect there is more to the story than resting Kenny Mathews for 2 weeks. Perhaps he has a “tired arm” and needs the rest. Watching Redlands hit ace sr lhp REV Griffin Murphy last wed and scoring 3 earned runs when earlier in the year they had a hard time even making contact. Murphy speed is down and he threw more curves/off speed pitches than usual. Even Adam Plutko gave up 4 earned runs last friday. Edison’s jr lhp Henry Owens suffered his 1st loss last week. Yucaipa’s rhp sr Taijuan Walker lasted less than 3 innings in a loss to Rialto.

  • Huh?!?

Not sure where all of this misinformation came from but i have been told that DBar did beat Chino 13-3 and Mathews did pitch. As a matter of fact I heard the Chino players were pretty upset and tried to pick a fight with the DB players after the game.

    Good coverage Trib!!

Glad Amat is so well covered!!!

Let the bloggers live long and strong!!!

  • Sloppy

Tribune coverage is sloppy at best. Charter Oak gets replaces Coach Walker and not a single hiccup from the Tribune. The choices the Tribune make are so freakin random it’s crazy. Cover this don’t cover that. Reminds me of a “C” student who makes decisions what home work he’ll do. No discipline.

There are so many schools in the area and they all require at least the decency of a score by week’s end. How many times has one bloggers started a rumor and Fred doesn’t even know the truth. Did DB win? Who the heck cares now that everyone has blasted the coaching staff.

The Tribune is selective in who will get the coverage and who won’t. Does La Puente play baseball? How about Azusa? Fred couldn’t we at least get all the teams scores by Saturday?

Funny thing! I just heard same thing….Diamond Bar actually won the game!? Where is all this coming from??

  • DamienScore

It does not matter what went on last week, the only thing that matters is that DAMIEN and DBAR are playing on Wednesday and Friday of next week. Weds. @Damien and Fri. back to Dbar. This will be a show down. Both teams need a sweep, but a Damien victory in either of the games puts Damien in the driver seat for 2nd place and keeps them 1 GB of Glendora. You can bet whoever is on the mound, these games will be outstanding. Big week for the Spartans! Go get em boys.

  • socalbaseball fan

Just checked max preps and game score still not listed. Usually someone post the brahma score/stats within 2 hours after the game is finished.

  • ?

D-Bar won 13-3 KMatthews threw the CG with 9k’s.
Crowe hit a HR and Pak was 3-4. This could be a scary team for a first place team to play in the first round with KMat on the bump. If D-bar comes in thrid I would not want to draw them first round!!! week is Crucial in the Sierra League!
