Softball Rankings: South Hills, West Covina climb into top five; Northview scoots to No. 6

TRIBUNE SOFTBALL RANKINGS
1. Glendora (9-2) - They go into spring break with a 10-0 loss to Dana Hills and won't play again until April 14. I complained about the long break last year, but they went to the championship so the Tarts know what they're doing.
2. Bonita (12-1-1) -- Have won seven straight with pitcher Chloe Wurst getting better each week. The back-to-back no hitters were impressive, but shutting out hard-hitting Charter Oak was impressive too.
3. South Hills (11-3-1) -- The Huskies are on fire, having won seven straight heading into next week's home-and-away against rival West Covina.
4. West Covina (9-5) -- Went 2-2 in the Savanna tournament, but the big games come next week against the Huskies.
5. Arroyo (11-1) -- The Knights won't lose a Mission Valley League game, and that's all they have left, so mark down 21-1, that's how they will finish. But the lone loss sticks out like a sore thumb, a 6-4 setback against Covina. How good are they, not sure, not enough quality opponents to get a true feel.
6. Northview (7-4) -- The Vikes should be much better than 7-4, they have a durable pitcher and plenty of hitting at the top of their lineup. Not sure they will lose another game in the VVL.
7. Los Altos (6-4) -- They follow a nice 5-4 win over Diamond Bar with a 10-1 pounding by Charter Oak. The only thing we know is that they're inconsistent.
8. Covina (7-2) -- Getting mercied by Northview 10-1 sent the Colts back to reality. Not sure they're among the top five in the area, but a top ten for sure.
9. St. Lucy's (5-3) -- A sweep over San Dimas gives the Regents a more respectable record, and we can't forget they play in the brutal Sierra.
10. Charter Oak (8-7) -- It's the same old tune, when they're scoring runs they can play with anyone, when they're not, not enough pitching to get it done.

Santa Fe an average team with an 7-6 record, beats Covina by a score of 5-1 and Northview 7-0. Real hard to justify a top ten ranking for both these teams.

christine stubblefield hit a walk-off bomb to lift ayala over the top ranked team from SD, rancho bernardo, 1-0. j.hall continues to roll as she had another no-no working in the top of the 7th, only to be broken up by an infield single by RB #9 hitter...hall struck out 12...ayala takes on fellow IE power norco in the semis, tomorrow at 1:15.

the top arm in the sierra league continues to roll..j.hall and the ayala bulldogs nipped a scrappy, yet game california team 2-0 in 8 innings in a 2nd rd match up at the carew classic.....hall improved her record to 13-0, and the dogs improved to 14-2 overall...the win over cal. sets up quarter final showdown friday at 11:30am against one of the top teams in SD rancho bernardo.(15-3)
Now lets see since Felipe took over LA is 0-3 being outscored 26 to 3. This is the football coach that got fired due to lack of leadership ability. So what did you expect out of him as the softball coach.

fred is out of his mind!
Hey dumb azz take a better look at St Lucy's schedule some tough teams in there including a win over esperanza!
Parents are SOOOO crazy, flash back to when YOU ALL were the BEST when YOU were young or did you even play? From stats to rankings geez.. TO THE ATHLETES ON THE DIRT PLAYING THE GAME...remember it's just other peoples OPINIONS.....and parents are crazy...
CO SOFTBALL
Not a single ROE in 4years dumb azz!
Aside from Arroyo, the MVL has an 8-24 overall record among 5 teams and 4 of the teams have 2 or less total wins. With such a weak schedule, it makes it hard to justify a #5 ranking. If they want to earn a little respect, they should have entered the Charter Oak tournament to see how they do against they the better teams. They have lost one game against Covina, not a quality loss.
Hey SGV softball dad - in regard to your comment to CO fans... "Quit crying and show Fred you should be higher 10th.You have done nothing yet!!!!!!!!!!!!!"
Can you explain what "doing something" means to you? Because after looking at the majority of those ranked above CO, your comment is rather idiotic. The many explanation marks also indicates that you have something personal against CO -- geez, take it easy, it's only hs softball.
To CO Fans,
Quit crying and show Fred you should be higher 10th.You have done nothing yet!!!!!!!!!!!!!
It doesn't really matter If Bonita is padding there stats..there winning in the circle and the score board..a lot of teams pad there stats it's an ego thing..it's the parents or asst coach doing the stats.Look at LA last year If I remember the coaches son was padding stats for the last 4 years..lol.. come on everyone does it!! I don't like it, it just helps the parent ego..and worried there kid is not getting ink!!remember this is only hs ball..there not going to get notice from college coaches here..a lot of of these girls play on just average travel ball teams if that..let them play the game they love and let them prove it on the field..I called Bonita winning there league at the start of the season and they will..I thought SH would be a lot better..same with BA..big win for LA against DB..But I think Ayala is the better team around, especially with JH in the circle..unbeatable..
Thecorrecttopten,
What is it your questioning about CO stats? There
is nothing wrong with them those are right on the button! Go question others in that league
really Fred!
Arroyo,Covina and St. Lucy's in your top ten! Get some bottle cap glasses on dude! None of those schools have actually played anybody worth mentioning and they are on the top ten! WOOOW!
"It's the same old tune, when they're scoring runs they can play with anyone, when they're not, not enough pitching to get it done."
That starting pitcher held Etiwanda and Bonita 5 to 6 innings until the coach made the pitching change so what the hell are you talking about she also did well at the Jurupa Tourney none of these other schools would even be able to compete there! Get your facts straight Fred!
correct top ten,
look how many runs we have scored this year, dont worry about our stats. Talk to Bonita about padding stats they are the pro's. When you play the schedule we have played this year your gonna have losses. League is all that matters these stupid rankings wont mean crap when it's all said and done......
REALLY?
your dead on but most hs coaches are the same way!
you are really going to judge CO by their pitching? try their coaching. their coaching is whats out of wack!!!!
and in football Bishop Amat loses to people that the valley would have no thought of even trying to step on the field with - but losses factor into rankings
Fred the top two should meet in the CO tourney final.
The Correct Top Ten:
Glendora - Good pitching, good coach
Bonita - Good pitching Leads in team hitting
Charter Oak - Coach needs to be honest and accurate with stats.
Los Altos - Young team is finding its own with new coach..
Diamond Bar - Pitching getting better La Rosa on fire
St Lucy’s - Playing a tough schedule will pay divs.
West Covina - Loses to Rowland?
South Hills - On the way back
Arroyo - Good pitcher but weak schedule kills them
San Dimas - Always starts slow will come a rolling late lost to a one hit wonder.
Covina, North view, Rowland, Walnut, Diamond Ranch, and Azusa
can beat you on any given day.
of CO's 7 losses - 3 were in the Jurupa tourney which no one else our valley plays in????
It is however your blog Fred....
Northview at #6??? You do know that San Dimas did beat them 8-4. The only reason NV scored 4 runs was because SD put in their number 3 pitcher when the score was 8-0 in the 6th inning.
i hear the spring break did the wc battery some good! i also heard that #2 was not even at full strength at the savanna... and cant wait for the next showdown. #4 now world domination later!
I think you forgot to mention Charter Oak's 7 losses -- the most among the top ten by two games.
Wow, Fred! I believe you have 1-5 pretty well correct, but 6-10 are all screwed up! How can CO be 10, when they mercied both Northview and Los Altos? Northview has a "durable pitcher"? Do you actually watch these games or go solely by their record?
