Gabrielino’s Angel Acosta is really, really good; Sierra Vista wins, Huerta bangs two-run homer

Mission Valley League, Gabrielino 7, South El Monte 6: In his heart, Gabrielino High School baseball coach Joe Laski gave sophomore right-hander Angel Acosta a victory and a save. In the rule book, a pitcher cannot receive credit for a win and a save in the same game.

Montview League, Sierra Vista 5, Azusa 1: Avenging its first Montview League baseball loss of the season, Sierra Vista High School scored three runs in the first inning and held on to beat Azusa 5-1 Friday afternoon. A two-run home run by Christian Huerta capped the three-run first for the host Dons (14-5, 7-1). That was all starting pitcher Elias Novelo needed as he struck out seven and won his sixth game of the season against no losses.
