Charter Oak names John Phillips and Todd Quinsey to take over basketball programs

Charter Oak High School announced today that Damien High school assistant John Phillips has been named the new boys basketball coach, replacing Ray Walker, who resigned. Charter Oak also named former Northview coach Todd Quinsey the girls basketball coach, taking over for Keisa Pineda. Quinsey is a Trib favorite of ours, he is a former correspondent who also worked phones for us.

Who? Way to make a splash! CO should be better than that. I could see really see them hiring some JV coach when Farrar retires!

  • Huh?

Are you sure that Walker resigned? You keep posting that well I am going to challenge you because I don’t think that is the case. Also why do you put Walker resigned but yet you don’t put a reason for the girls coach leaving?

  • Just checkin

Fred so what’s the scoop on John Phillips? Other than his time at Damien where else has he coached? I understand he once coached at Bishop Amat back in their glory days, is that true?

  • timeline?

the Amat connection would make sense, but when were those “Glory Days”? you speak of? not this decade.

Technically speaking, both Walker and Pineda resigned from the coaching positions after being pink slipped from their teaching jobs due to budgetary cuts. I know that Walker was told that he could continue on as the coach but considering that he has to work, he had no other choice but to decline.
