Workman High School football coach Scott Morrison isn’t ready to talk about position battles or coaching staff roles. He’s too busy making up for lost time after being recently hired to take over the Lobos’ program earlier this month. Workman has started spring practice and the early numbers are good with Morrison reporting that about 65 players are in the program and that number could grow. (To continue, click thread).

Just don’t expect anything too complicated for the next few weeks as the new staff gets settled in.

“We’re in that get-to-know-you phase,” Morrison said. “We’re not as far along as we would’ve been had we started earlier, but I wouldn’t say we’re dramatically behind.

“The first week was really an introduction to how things are going to be run and what the expectations are.”

Part of that introduction included some heavy conditioning and the installation of Morrison’s base offense and defense. The coaching staff remains a work in progress, but Morrison has both Anthony and Shane Hile with him as well as former Monrovia and Citrus College quarterback Randy Bartlett.

Who actually calls the offense and defense in the fall, though, remains a mystery and Morrison says it’s not a priority at this time.

“I’m sure as spring and summer unfold, roles will become more defined,” Morrison said. “I think we have plenty of time to figure out who’s going to call the defense, but the question is who’s going to be in the room on Saturday breaking film.”
