    Week #4
Diamond Bar vs Diamond Ranch let the fun begin….

  • jcaz

Thanks Fred. I knew I could count on you !

  • TeachDGame

Not a Barn Burner, but isn’t there a Week #2 Fri 9/17 of Damien @ Chaffey HS 7:00 pm ?

  • Aaron

Does CO-Glendora play for a trophy?

Smudgepot is the Game of the week if not the season now that it sets the tone for two teams.

  • Steve Ramirez

Aaron: Look at this way, the Charter Oak-Glendora matchup, by Aram’s post-PL top 25, will pit the Nos 4 team and 7 team in the greater San Gabriel Valley. Bonita-San Dimas is a bigger rivalry game, but there will probably be more interest in a game that features two teams ranked in the top 10.
Just like if you look at the college football schedule the week of the annual Oklahoma vs. Texas game. The Red River Shootout is one of the top rivalry games in college football. But that same week defending champ Alabama faces 2009 champ Florida. It’s a matchup between the past two BCS champs and two teams who will be ranked in the top 5. I could almost guarantee that Bama-Florida gets bigger play than OU-Texas.

  • GoTartans

GHS/CO USED to play for a trophy – the Mayor’s Trophy. Not sure if they still will this fall, but since when does a trophy determine the GOW? You are sounding a little whiny, Aaron – and I usually like your posts…

  • ftblgk

Finally made it to one of Damien H.S. 7 on 7 yesterday (last one) and from what I saw….I think they will be fine. A few struggles but fine…..they have speed on offense..(1 kid in particular).Defense needs adjusting but other than that they will be good to go.

  • SGV FOOTBALL

    Aaron,

We do play for a trophy the Mayors trophy to be exact. It’s sitting in the CO coaches office where it will be for a very long time.

WOW only 43 more days until kick off!!!!

  • A GOOD PREDICTION

Glendora over Charter Oak 24 – 14. Glendora has a much better QB and plenty more skilled players. I don’t see Charter Oak getting this win, but if they do it will be a close one! Just being honest…

  • SGV FOOTBALL

    A GOOD PREDICTION,

You are full of BS, come on do you really think Glendora has more skilled players than Charter Oak? You are either blind or have not seen Charter Oak this season in passing league….

This game will not even be close. at least 2 TD victory by CO.

  • Aaron

How many times has the series stopped between CO and Glendora?

  • Frank

Thanks for Posting this. This is great, can easily see who’s playing who week to week, and it actually covers most of SGV. Some good match-ups, Monrovia- San Dimas, Charter oak- Glendora, of course Amats whole schedule looks pretty tough.

  • MISSING THE POINT

    Aaron,
I think you are missing the point of the Glendora vs CO as being the game of the week . Yes the smudgepot is a big game but I would say it is even bigger to the 2 participants. It is a yearly game between 2 neighboring schools . It is played every year while a game like Glendora vs CO is not . As far as what will be on the field the GLN vs CO is a far bigger game as they are 2 higher ranked teams in the SGV # 4 vs # 7 . So in the eyes of a fan of the game that is why it is the game of the week .

  • Sparta Fan

Here is the issue,WE DON”T HAVE AN OFFENSIVE OR DEFENSIVE LINE!! We have skill players but no linemen. Whoever is goin to be the QB (Hawkins) needs to have a set of wheels because they will be putting in some serious roadwork. With that said, Damien will be a 500 team.

  • Aaron

I’m not missing any point. I’m just calling that argument a wash.

  • A GOOD PREDICTION

I have yet to hear anything solid about CO’s lineman, until then my prediction is as close as it’s going to be. BTW, I did see CO in passing league and nobody but CO had more than 5 seconds to throw the ball, of course they’re going to look good even with a decent QB. I don’t think that’s going to help them come league, especially if they have no line….. Rufus and who? Santiago can throw to himself! C’mon it aint hard to see CO does not have many skilled players!

  • Tom

Some data I collected on Glendora. Near positive no game 1967-1984. No game 2004 or 2005. Not sure about 2006-2009.

    1964 GHS 38 Charter Oak 0 Sierra
    1965 GHS 13 Charter Oak 12 Sierra
    1966 GHS 32 Charter Oak 0 Sierra
    1985 GHS 0 Charter Oak 60
    1986 GHS 14 Charter Oak 0
    1987 GHS 0 Charter Oak 13
    1988 GHS 19 Charter Oak 0
    1989 GHS 14 Charter Oak 7
    1990 GHS 27 Charter Oak 0
    1991 GHS 36 Charter Oak 6
    1992 GHS 6 Charter Oak 21
    1993 GHS 13 Charter Oak 19
1994 GHS 17 Charter Oak 12 Forfeit to CO
    1995 GHS 12 Charter Oak 10
    1996 GHS 49 Charter Oak 33
    2000 GHS 14 Charter Oak 19
    2001 GHS 6 Charter Oak 14
    2002 GHS 3 Charter Oak 29
    2003 GHS 24 Charter Oak 27

  • http://www.insidesocal.com/sgvfootball Aram

    Aaron,

The area’s best program (sorry again, Amat) vs. arguably the area’s best QB and one of the top programs. Both teams are top-five Tribune teams going into the game. CO is coming off back-to-back titles. There’s a geographical rivalry. It’s huge!!!

Bonita-San Dimas is huge, too. In any other year, it would probably be the the better bet. But there’s just so many factors going into this CO-Glendora game that make it the top attraction.

  • just askin’

Aram – could you explain the thinking behind your first sentence? (this should be fun)

  • Don

The Top Ten Reasons the Trib Won’t be Covering the Smudgepot

1.Too far from Boca Del Rio

2.Last time he went to a Smudgepot Fred lost his car and had to call Aram’s’ Mom to pick him up

3.Too hard to remember whether it’s in La Verne or San Dimas

4.Citrus CC has a REAL press-box AND free coffee

5.We just covered it a couple years ago didn’t we?

6.Too Mayberry, doesn’t fit the hip new Trib Prep big picture reporting style

7.The guru told me not to

8.The Bulletin guy is going to be there anyhow

9.We already give San Dimas too much ink as it is

10.Nobody goes there anymore, it’s too crowded

  • http://www.insidesocal.com/sgvfootball Aram

    just askin,

Don’t the results speak for themselves? I have no bias here. If it were another school I’d say it. But right now, it’s Charter Oak. Championships and next-level players. End of story.

  • Amused Reader

So Charter Oak is the top program in the area? If Amat was in the lower division Charter Oak is in, I don’t think we’d be talking about Charter Oak ever winning a title. How has that head to head competition gone?

  • Q for A

    Aram,

How many CIF D-7 Championships over the past 10 years would Amat have if the most challenging program in the division was Charter Oak?

  • sgvfootballfan

Has Glendora ever won a CIF football championship

  • Steve Ramirez

    SGVF:
Yes, they shared the 1989 title with Ramona following a 28-28 tie.
I still go with Glendora-Charter Oak as the top game, again using by college football analogy. The weekend when Oklahoma meets Texas for the Red River Shooutout, it won’t get as much play as Alabama v. Florida, because the latter matchup, by the two teams rankings, will get more interests, and I would imagine the TV ratings will be higher as well.

  • SGV FOOTBALL

    A GOOD PREDICTION,

Okay you say you have not heard anything about CO’s lineman??? Who else have we heard about besides Chino Hills Lineman? No one right… So to refresh your memory lets go and take a look at some of the Lineman and some of the skilled players.

    Some of our Lineman:
    Maurice Clement 6-1, 220
    Armand Negrete 6-1, 275
    Jojo Aranda 6-1, 250
    Travis Doll 6-3, 300
    Louis Avila 6-0, 250
    Andy Orozco 6-2, 275
    Brandon Arrieta 6-1,220
A pair of 6-2/6-3 soon to be sophmores. They absolutely killed it at the Freshman level.

    Some of our Skilled players:
    Dennis Rufus 6-2, WR/DB
    Josiah Thropay 6-5, TE/WR/QB
    Greg Taylor 6-1, TE/LB
    Travis Santiago QB
    Donald Martin 5-10 RB
    Tanner Gibas 6-1, LB
    Aarel Gibas 5-8 RB
    Luis Cordova 5-11 LB/FB
    Chris Gilchrist 6-4, WR/QB
    Kody Brown 6-4, WR

I know for a fact that yoru DB’s, linebacker and saftey cannot cover all these guys. Plus we will always have two fresh legs rotating at RB so Glendora is in for a long night.

  • SGV FOOTBALL

Just FYI guys CO will be at the Oceanside passing league tournament today and tomorrow. I never realized that Oceanside was 6x’s cif champion since 2004 and 2x’s state champion since since 2007. DAMN! There will be some big names, once i get results I will try to post from San Diego.

  • AMAT 73

Before this turns into a big pizzing contest look at what Aram’s reponce was to his reasoning. More titles and more next level signings. Fair enough . You can’t always bring in that we play the Pac-5 and then arguement that if we were in D-7( thank God were not) we would have more titles because if we were D-7 we wouldn’t be who we are .Remember he did not say the best team which he does say is AMAT and it is reflected in all encompassing SGV list.Once we get more into the Hag years this issue will be solved and also now that CO is moving up let’s see how they handle the Inland which I think they should be able to be competitve maybe just not as dominate as the were in the Southeast. But time will tell .

  • FredJ

Like I said a while back, I wish the Smudge Pot was on Zero week Thursday. It would have been great for the game to have the stage to itself and kick off the season, plus the crowd, which is already enormous, would be even bigger with more of the valley able to attend with virtually no other games to attend that night. But oh well.

  • just sayin’

    A for Q – about 10

  • just sayin’

Aram – using your championship rationale, Rio Hondo Prep actually has the best program in the area. using the next-level rationale, go back over the last 5-10 yrs and total CO players vs Amat players. We’ll wait.

  • http://www.insidesocal.com/sgvfootball Aram

    All you Amat peeps,

It’s an imprecise formula. My two biggest determining factors are CIF titles and next-level talents. Sorry, but I have a good memory. I remember when Amat was on top and it didn’t look like this. It looked like CIF titles (or title runs) and amazing super talents EVERYONE wanted to go watch. You guys are hopefully on way your back to that level, but you’re not there yet. Huge regular-season wins are nice, but you have to get past the second round of the playoffs for me to get excited.

It makes me sad some Amat fans don’t get it. What you guys have today is improvement. This is not the pinnacle for you.

For Charter Oak, they’re winning CIF titles (albeit in a lower division, but it’s not as low as Rio Hondo Prep’s division (remember, the imprecise formula?)). And CO is sending guys on to the next level — granted, Amat is, too. Although I’m still waiting for that next D-1 super talent at a skill spot for Amat. Hope he’s out there.

The difference between CO and Amat is not nearly as vast as the difference between CO and Rio Hondo Prep. I hope this is making sense.

  • Two Bits

Not looking to get in a tit for tat or even put anyone down but, The only way to really tell which team is better than another team “OVERALL” is to look at Head to Head win-loss records. If a certain team has beaten you everytime you’ve played them or the majority of the time that you’ve played them, then it’s fair to say that they have “Scoreboard” on you. That holds true for ALL schools. Like it or not, the only way to show that your program is batter than another is to accept the overall win/loss stats against that team. If you want to make it more contemporary then shorten the span of games gone by. (i.e.) Who has won the most times in the last 15, 10, 5 or even 3 meetings when the teams have faced off. I know there will always be some crazy stats with long time rivalries but even those stats will show the parity of those programs over the years. Just a thought.

  • huskydawg

With many transfers from SH BOOTH(amat),MONTES(amat),VARELA(amat),VAUGHNS(co) GILCHRIST(CO)AND CANADA out for the year, SH STILL should be a heavy contenter for the LEAGUE and DIV TITLE due to a great staff and GREAT leader of men like BOGAN. TRANSFERS WELCOMED

  • Joe Amat

    Aram,

This is when I chime in (surprise). You, of all people, also know that despite popular belief – I’m not a homer. You know that because you ruled this roost during the 2 worst years of Amat’s football existence and you remember the prevailing perception then. I was an Amat hater at best and or the Devil re-incarnated.

We do see improvement. But, while you vaguely remember the roll we were on when contending for titles, you also have those recent years fresh in your mind – and you need to cleanse your palate. While we were bad, I will point out that during those two years we swept Rancho Cucomonga – who Charter Oak couldn’t beat the next two years and who swept South Hills the two years before. Convenient scheduling? Fair comparison? Think what you will. During those two awful years Amat also beat St Francis (who defeated Los Altos-when they were good and beat both Damien & South Hills in that season) and St Paul, the DIII Champions. Interesting at least. Perception.. or reality?

Yes, opinions are imprecise and the formulas we use to form them are even more flawed. You need to go back and read what you originally wrote vs your explanation here. “The *area’s* best program…” is different than “CIF titles (or title runs)…” in the Pac-5. Which are you comparing – Amat now to Amat then? Or Amat’s *program* to those *in the area* which is what you wrote.

We’re not where we want to be – but thank goodness we’re better than we were. I would say, with the wins we’ve had the past two seasons one would have to say we could beat anyone. If that’s possible – isn’t that “contending”? In the Pac-5? Manhandling the D7 runner-up doesn’t give you some idea how Amat would compare vs that competition. After all – that’s what you doing right? Comparing?

  • Joe Amat

    Aram,

You also used “next-level” players as a criteria, I’m sure you all expected an updated version of “The List”. Since we are talking about “A Program” we have to use not a couple of years – but a couple cycles of students over time. THAT is a *Program*. • Really?

Not one game of the week for the Huskies of Chino Hills?? Thats hard to believe considering they have by far one of the toughest pre-league schedules. Week 4 the Dbar teams over CHills vs. REV, I find it hard to believe that the Dbar pillow fight or blowout for Dranch will be a better game then the two proven programs of CHills and REV going at it.

  • Duh????

DUDE! Cochino-hills is not in the SGV!!!! We could care less about Cochino-hills and REV.

  • Basic

    Amat/CO…

On paper you can make any team seem superior therefore, you can make arguments for both. However, if you are talking about the last three years and only the last three years, then you have to say CO has a slight edge SLIGHT. Yes Amat plays in a higher Div and has 3-4 Huge wins but NO titles, and CO has two CIF Titles.

You can not say IF Amat was in div 7 they run the show because look at the Baseball team in lower divisions than most programs in the Valley and still NO title. SO the argument that IF Amat was in a lower Div they have titles, to me is pointless because then the Baseball team should have some titles. Yes I do think Amat would actually have a title if they were down in Divs but hey I also thought the baseball team would win last year and we all know what happened. Therefore, you can only go on what HAS actually happened, which to me is: Amat 3-4 HUGE wins, CO 2 CIF Titles.

Look if you take the last three years and have them play 10 times against one another each year what do you honestly think the records would be? I say probably 16-14 CO???

Having said all this, I do think Amat is the better team this year!

  • The List Does Not Lie

It was only a matter of time until someone broke out “The List.” Good job, Joe Amat. Would anyone expect any less from a premier Pac-5 program hell bent on staying in the Pac-5? And what if Jerry Mac, Jay Anderson, Rio Ruiz were 100% football players? I think that list would grow again.

And now there is a direct CONNECTION between BISHOP AMAT and USC via PAT HADEN??? Ummm hello? You wanna play high school ball where? lol!

Anyhow…I believe that in order to be considered that top program in the SGV, that program has to challenge itself by facing opponents that are themselves considered top programs. Besides BA 5 years ago, CHARTER OAK Coach Lou Farrar has refused to schedule any “powerhouses” from the Pac-5 or equivalent like Chaparral or St. Bonaventure. Rancho Cucamonga does not fit into this category.

Coach Lou also waited until Esperanza got “watered down” by the opening of a new high school before scheduing the Aztecs. This was not an accident, my friends. The Esperanza that CO will play is not the Esperanza of 3 seasons ago. Esperanza left the Pac-5 for a damn good reason and they will never again have the talent to compete at the Pac-5 level.

Dodging Southern California’s best football programs is not the type of behavior that defines the San Gabriel Valley’s top program.

  • WHOOP THERE IT IS

    Really,
There is your example of why the SGV has become known as the fishbowl. You would think now that Chino Hills is in the Sierra and they are on the hills above the SGV they could be considered an SGV team. Any football fan could see that is a much better game then DB vs DR especially with all the noise on CH and going against an IE team.

  • http://www.insidesocal.com/sgvfootball Aram

    Joe Amat,

All fair points. But I have to ask …

What are the expectations at Amat? To win league, CIF and send some kids on to college. Has the program lived up to those expectations in recent years?

What are the expectations at Charter Oak? To win league, CIF and send some kids on to college. Has the Chargers’ program lived up to those in recent years?

Both programs are so fantastic that anything less than a serious run at a CIF title (semis or beyond) is a disappointment.

You cannot compare Amat to CO head to head. That’s why I say it’s imprecise. You must just judge them by their particular corners of the football universe. So putting down CO because it’s D-6 or -7 only goes so far.

And by the way, the win over St. Francis you referred to came on a close 2-point conversion on the game’s final play. Los Altos lost by 7 to SF (I think) the week before, but they were fresh off their win over Damien, which as Gano would tell you, took a lot out of that team. AND THAT’S THE DIFFERENCE IN PROGRAMS LIKE CO, (LA BACK THEN) AND AMAT.

Is there any Amat fan out there who’s gonna tell me that Keith Smith, Dennis Rufus, Adam Muema, Chris Allen, A.J. Powell, Brandon Golden wouldn’t start at Amat?

  • AMAT 73

    Basic,
I posted my view a little earlier on this subject . You post that CO has a slight advantage over AMAT due to 2 titles and AMAT has only huge wins. I ask you this and I think you will agree or show me where I am wrong. CO in that same time frame has no huge wins or if they did please list them. Those 2 titles you speak of were won against DR who we beat in 08 and absolutely destroyed 09 . I am not one to use common opponents but this is our only avenue as the years we beat CO are too far back to use here and those are the years CO won those 2 titles. Now comparing that were do you see the slight advantage. I do say that CO is a fine program but I just don’t see your argument.

  • Aram listen

Aram, you’re exactly right, so lets just put it in terms that everyone can understand, Amat is the only school that compete for a BCS title, so to speak, everyone else is competing for Div 1I, Div. III and NAIA titles, to put it in a way that everyone understands. We have one school in the SGV that competes for the ultimate prize in Southern California high school football and others that compete for lower level prizes. So Aram, I bet if you asked college players if they would rather be on a BCS team like an Ohio State, Oklahoma, Florida or Texas and finish ranked eighth or tenth in the country, would they take that over winning a Division II title at something called Villanova, or whatever schools compete there in the something-state category. So, yes, Amat is improving and getting closer to the promise land, and they’re not there yet. You’re right about that. But beating real Southern Section giants like Mater Dei and Oragne Lutheran, teams that Charter Oak couldn’t dream of beating has a taste that a Div. 7 title couldn’t touch. So tell you what, I would rather be on a ride like that instead of winning 11 titles with Rio Hondo Prep, five with Charter Oak or a first with San Dimas. I recognize what they’ve done, but the competitor in me wants to shoot for the stars.

  • Really??

    Duh:
I figured it was a fair assumption they should be mentioned considering they have every one of thier games listed in the week by week above and are playing in the new and improved Sierra league. Get real would ya, they have been getting plenty of well deserved attention on these SGV blogs considering thier competition is all around the area. And you will care when they get thier victories all over the SVG, DUH just try to keep paying atttention.

  • Joe Amat

    Aram,

But that isn’t what you were doing. You weren’t comparing each school to their own expectations. YOU were comparing each school *to each other* when you wrote “The area’s best program”. (and I’m sure you don’t want to start throwing “close losses” into the mix because the gap only gets wider)

At least that’s how It reads.

  • Norco

    lol……..This is some funny stuff…

  • http://www.insidesocal.com/sgvfootball Aram

    Joe Amat,

I’m comparing the programs, but I’m not using what I think would happen head-to-head to arrive at my conclusion. That’s where the imprecise part comes in. I think that Amat-CO last year or the year before would be a good game. This year same thing. If CO had to play Amat every week for 10 weeks, I think the games would gradually become bigger Amat margins of victory. Does anybody get the point I’m trying to make?

And I don’t buy the whole BCS team vs. Villanova comparison. I would say it’s more like a team that always reaches the Gator Bowl, but loses, against a team that always wins the Holiday Bowl.

If I were comparing Amat to college football, I wouldn’t be comparing them to a BCS bowl team. At least not yet. Amat keeps company with BCS teams, but they aren’t going to BCS bowls. I hope that changes.

I hope everyone understands I’d love nothing more than for Amat to be the best team in SoCal every year. I love the fan base, I love the tradition and I love what it would mean to the area. They’re getting there, but they’re not there yet. And I hope Charter Oak or whoever has great seasons, too. I just want the Valley to do well, I don’t care who it is.

  • Duh????

Really?? Until you do it, you haven’t done it!!!! Get the victories first, then come back and talk some smack. As of this date, you are all hopes, dreams and wishes. I have been hearing a lot of good things about the team IN WRITING!!! Show me something this year against those teams mentioned on the field and the soap box is yours. Until then…..

  • Norco

This really puts it into perspective…

“If I were comparing Amat to college football, I wouldn’t be comparing them to a BCS bowl team. At least not yet. Amat keeps company with BCS teams, but they aren’t going to BCS bowls”

  • THE THREE STOOGES, FRED, ARAM AND JAIME

Aram and Fred, mission accomplished. More hits!

So what if you lose credibility. So what. I’m busting up thinking about this. Best means what to you guys? Joey brings out the list yet no one brings out CO’s list, why is that. BECAUS ETHEIR IS NO LIST!!! Seriously who has teh second and third most signees/walk ons…may guess is probably Damien or Diamond Ranch right?

Hey why not mention all the Citrus, Chaffey and MSAC “rides” CO has had over the same span. Truly inspiring!

This year CO had a watershed year. Look back on Amat’s list and find a “drought” of D1 players. One year of D1 signess…wow. I’m impressed!

Yes next year CO will have another group of singees but they’ll have 9 more years to play catch up. lmao

Make no mistake CO has a solid program and is on to something special, especially with “black flight” out of Latino “war zones” who can blame them. I didn’t.

This reminds me of how stupid sportswriters are. Wait dod I say stupid, I mean a more polite word but you get my drift. Coryell isn’t in the HOF, Mandrich was “the best NFL linemen ever, and “Love her or HATE her, Serena Williams is teh best ever”.

All the work of Sportswriters without a clue. Now if you want to talk about our sports writers specifically. Fred’s a Fish Bowler. Guru’s a hack and Aram didn’t like swimming in the deep end because by his own admission “he’s too lazy”. Miguel loevs his mom so he gets a pass, lol. So when you argue with these guys understand it’s not their belief or knowledge that’s in question it’s their work ethic and integrity. They will allow thing for more hits!! and I MEAN ANYTHING !!!!

  • SGV FOOTBALL

I love it! Everyone is talking about CO, comparing them to Amat, who’s better this, who’s better that etc etc etc. This is a mute point for me so I will let you guys continue to battle it out. I wonder how the Glendora Dad’s feel about all this mention of the best programs in the Valley. I just left the sams club on Glendora and I smelled a lot of fear in the air, I thought it was the rising gas prices but its all the talk on the blog of the two best teams in the Valley. If you guys think all this talk about CO and BA will ever stop I have news for you. After this football season is over CO and BA will be on the same playing field and all the new ammunition for CO most likely. Just imagine when CO knocks off someone like REV, Norco or Chaparral in the playoffs this year it will only take CO to new levels. You guys can no longer call the SGV a fishbowl after this year.

  • Lan C. Erbacker

Aram, Tell me “Why” you can’t use head to head records in comparing AMAT n c.o.? Also “IF” there where Four lesser Title games within our High School Bowl System and “IF” they picked the top eight teams to play in them, I would “BET” that AMAT would be in more of them than the other schools mentioned. From reading the blog and if my memory serves me correstly, Let’s put the norco program in perspective, how many PAC-5 schools has norco played and beaten?

  • Basic

    ’73:

The way I see it, and again this is only me, IF we only count the last 3 years CO would win about 51% to Amat’s 49%. Yes Amat has some Huge wins but they also have some disappointing loses, and yes CO plays lower division team but they do have some hardware…Honestly did anyone BEFORE those huge wins realy think Amat was a clear favorite to win them? No and that is why they were so big. SO the same can be said for CO, no one would put them as favorite against those same teams but I think they could also surprise those teams and win (again, we are only talking about the last 3 years) which is what Amat did.

So only counting the last 3 years I’d still say CO was slightly the better program, although I think Amat would beat them by 10 to 14 points this year.

Look, everyone can say IF this or IF that, like IF CO stepped up and played some big boys and IF they would have won, or IF Amat beat Poly in the playoffs but none of these things happened so you just have to go with your opinion and mine is written above.

However, if you go for 10 years or more then hands down the best program is Amat and I think they will be again this year and start another roll…

  • Norco

    SGV FOOTBALL…

    Wishful thinking…
    CO…
    Is
    Not
    In the same
    League
    As NORCO

Your OL is small compared to Norco and when it come to crucial elements of OL play: .CO doesnt even come close to measuring up

    LT 6`5 300lbs,
    LG 6`4 285lbs,
    C 6`2 250lbs,
    RG 6`2 240
    RT 6`6 274lbs
    TE 6`4 230lbs

Add in the # 23 Rb in the Nation Kelsey Young 5`11 195lbs 4.4….CO don`t stand a chance against Norco…

  • FISH BOWL DYNAMICS…who’s best? Are you kidding me!

This is why it’s a FISH BOWL. From the outside in you can see the limitations. Players, coaches and fans who aren’t in the Fish Bowl see it for what it is. Those that never venture out only wiat for the “food”…in this case San Dimas and CO Championships and Azusa’s recent success. All done by the hand of the CIF, “area” specific Championships. No a deep sea Championship. Like a Soap Box Derby where all you do is keep your wheels straight and cross the finish line.

    Where’s the challenge?

One day I was talking to my son’s teacher at Ramona Middle School and she said she never left La Verne for ALL her education. Elementary, Middle, High School and College. She had her Master’s form La Verne University. STUNNING !!!

FISH BOWL AT IT’S BEST !!!

  • Bruin

Dynamics – If you don’t like it, don’t read it! Go jump in another FishBowl, tank or lake! Here’s an idea, Subscribe to the O.C. Register and read their blog, do whatever makes you feel removed from our existance, BUT, most of all….just GO!

AMAZING A JERK AT HIS BEST!!!

  • I see Dead Goldfish

This is why the life expectancy of Gold Fish is very short, sooner or later you just forget to feed the fish.

    lmao

Riddle me this. Didn’t someone say once that Cathedral and Serra had accomplished nothing? Well guess who just won a State Bowl game and who’s playing Bishop Amat this year?

BTW their initials aren’t SH or CO.

    Booyah !!!

  • THIS WOULD MAKE FOR NEWS

    SGV FOOTBALL,
The only thing that would make Amat and CO on the same playing field would be for CO to step on that field and beat Amat . That is what it is going to take so do not kid yourself into thinking any other way . Another thing is when one tries to compare themselves to another, the one trying to compare is usually the lesser one so CO trying to compare to Amat tells you one thing . Anyways best of luck this season and I do hope CO has a nice run in league and the playoffs . It would be great for the SGV .

  • AMAT 73

    Basic,
Fair enough . You have your opinion and I have mine and you are right about the what if’s. The only thing in my mind is and believe me when I say I have nothing but respect for CO and their program but I just can’t see them stepping up and beating teams like St Bonnie or even Loyola or ND . They have yet to prove to me that they can take on a big gun and knock them off . I saw that game against RC on Fox last season and when RC made their move you could just see CO backed off and couldn’t give what it takes against a team of that caliber. Now with them being in the Inland come playoff time I don’t think they have been battle tested enough to know what it takes to win those big ball games. You have to admit they have been head and shoulders above every team in the SE but now if they go against the IE powers they will face teams of the type they have never seen before . I respect your opinion but one of those 3 years was a Verti year so lets review this same time next year when we have 3 years of Hags. Deal ?

  • Norco

    Lan C. Erbacker …

Are you serious? It`s not about how many PAC5 teams Norco has played or beaten. If you think that Norco cannot compete on the same level of the PAC5 teams, then I don`t really know what to tell you other then thats just plan ignorance on your part. Norco is and has been a top 20 team in the Southern Section.
Now I will name a few PAC5 teams Norco has contacted over the years for games:

    Edison said “NO”
    Newport Harbor said “No”
    Mission Viejo said “NO”
    Crespi said “No”
    Tesoro said NO
    Fountain Valley said NO
    San Clemente Said NO

Now you need to understand Norco runs a balanced offensive set, but it’s not a double wing in the sense most people think of when they hear double wing. And most PAC5 teams face teams that run a spread or Pro Set offense. I’ve made this same point for many years on other message boards – unless you’re trying to prep for a super strong, physical running opponent (an Espy, MV type dominating line), you don’t gain very much by playing Norco, and you have a lot of potential negatives (long drive, injury potential, etc).

It’s not so much about being scared, it’s about risking a lot for little gain. Doesn’t make sense for a lot of teams.

  • Lan C. Erbacker

Norco – Very well balanced and lucid explanation. I will back off on the PAC-5 thing. I do hope that Norco will one day get those games scheduled, it might be interesting to see the two styles at odds with all that talent (PAC-5 school and Norco)on the field trying for the same thing, a win! Good Luck this year, may your season be long and injury free!

  • Norco

    Lan C. Erbacker….

Same to you…Hopefully in the next year or two Norco can match up with some of these teams, instead of having to play games in downtown Los Angeles & Santa Clarita Valley…

  • Everyone will “get” BA football by the end of this year!!!!

    Basic and SGV Football

Charter Oak’s Coach Lou Farrar has never seen a D-1 type of program besides Bishop Amat 5 years ago and everyone knows what happened. Bishop Amat has beat some of the top teams in the State. How can you guys even begin to compare these two programs? I just do not see the common ground here.

I can only imagine it’s because you guys have never seen a Long Beach Poly or a Notre Dame. Trust me guys, there is a world of difference. Unfortunately, you will not learn this until you play REV, Chaparral, or Corona Centennial.

Dodging Southern California’s best football programs is not the type of behavior that defines the San Gabriel Valley’s top program.

  • Just askin’

I don’t understand. If Aram says CO is the best program in the valley-isn’t he comparing them head-to-head with other programs in the valley? And head-to-head…

  • just askin’

Basic – what were Amat’s “disappointing” losses? Who were they against? And how would those teams fair against other teams in the conversation?

  • jcaz

    Fred,

Well, Im glad you posted this years schedule when you did. Who would have ever expected more that 60 hits out of this, not to mention our very first all inclusive list from Joe.

BTW, I dont really understand all the work up over the CO vs. Amat debate. The facts are that neither team seems to really want to play one another because if they did, they would have scheduled a game during week five, which if Im not mistaken, was an open date for both of them this time around.

And Aram, is it me or what?

I seem to get a sense that youre trying to create a sense of controversy here with your comments about how you see Charter Oak as the better football program in our little fish bowl.
Granted, Charter oak has all those banners, but honestly, do you really believe what youre saying here?

    I mean really dude??

Look, last year I made a challenge to Fred last year, and Ill do it again this time around just for you.

I asked Fred a very simple question, and that was if you truly believed that Charter Oak was better football team than Amat was, would you have bet the mortgage of you house on it?

Now, in all fairness, Fred did say that he would have done just that, but I can wager that after seeing the results of last years Amat team on that field against some pretty big football programs, that I would have bet that Fred was more than very happy to have never made that bet last year.

  • GET REAL

No way. No way CO beats St. Bonnies or Mater Dei when they had a tough time w/ Diamond Ranch and Muir.

Are we in the San Gabriel Valley or Wonderland?

    Geezus.

  • Who Really Has The Talent

    Bishop Amat,

Charter Oak defeated defending state bowl champion Oceanside in pool play of the North County Tournament in San Diego on Friday.

Aram just started a thread on this.

I also noticed that Bishop Amat Bloggers haven’t posted their numbers on their OL and DL. We all known that Joe is going to throw those numbers out, at least if they are going to support his position.

  • just askin’

Who Really Has The Talent – was that with pads? 11 on 11? If not it’s not really worth discussing.

  • Don

Love these periodic debates over who is the best local team . And the same old arguments, none all that compelling, are still as amusing as listening to as the young guy and the old guy argue about whether Royce Gracie could really kick Muhammad Ali’s ass. They are as predictable as the LA weather and can get as bitter as any Yankee vs Red Sox beef, contributing countless hits over the years as they seem to spring up spontaneously in unrelated threads and keep things alive when fresh content is weak. As to the three most popular points:

The Championship(s) argument; does anyone here really believe a CIF Championship in D6 or D7 is as hard to come by as one in D1? Yeah, me neither; a pretty good case can be made for the fishbowl thing when you consider all three of Charter Oak’s rings this decade were won in championship games against league opponents. Sadly, the Chargers didn’t do so red hot against the ElMo’s, the ElDo’s, and the Newport Harbors; it took some CIF gerrymandering to bring those championship plaques back to Covina Boulevard. Point: Lancers

On the other hand, the Amat argument about playing better teams, while true, also points to some results this century that are less than stellar. Moreover, more than half of the teams the Lancers face are dictated by the league and the division that they are assigned to play in by the Section. Had Amat taken a step back like St. Paul did back in the day, who knows how many more banners they could have hung in the rafters. Point: Chargers

Having players at the next level is way different than playing at the next level. Amat graduates players, almost universally, with SAT scores, GPA’s, and college-ready transcripts; public schools do too, but not nearly at the same rate. A better, but still weighted, measure would be how many kids have actually won scholarships. Point: Jury still out

    Keep drilling down guys.

  • 645 S. Barranca

Good Luck to all our local teams in 2010! Cant wait for the season. Charter Oak and Amat have been active in the free agent market picking up several former Huskies.

No hard feelings hope everything works out. South Hills will be all good without there services! We Coming CO! Lets break in that new facility!

  • glendora football player

I guarantee that glendora will beat charter oak! on offense we have a few suprises for Co in some good players that will be ready to work Co’s defense! and one big reason is chad jeffries! if you dont think he cant carry a team on offense look at last years ghs v. chills game!

on your defensive side with thomas corwin at safty and michael gallo d-line leading the way with our fast defensive players we have set up it wont be easy for Co to score

  • just sayin’

~No Bishop Amat player or fan would trade a Division 7 Championship over a win over Orange Lutheran or St. Bonaventure. These teams represent some of the finest programs in the State. When BA beat St. Bonaventure (#4 ranked in California) it received an article in the LA Times (as well as several follow-up articles), the Orange County Register (even though no OC teams were involved) and was also featured on Maxpreps(National) And this was a PRESEASON game. On the other hand, when CO beat DR for the D-7 Championship, the score was posted in the LA Times…and that’s it. The game did not even get an article. How does a school with FIVE D-1 players win it’s coach’s 5th CIF Championship and get ignored by the LA Times?

    Point: Lancers

  • Comedy Central

    In Response to Don said:

Maybe you should ask the Times? Last time I checked, there bottom line is in the tank!

Point: Championships for the kids doesn’t matter which divsion or which school!

Point2: Would Amat trade their championships in D5 baseball to have bragging rights in beating a D1 school in ONE GAME? Get real dude…

  • Amat Fan

My hat’s off to the Cathedral Phantoms for playing Amat this year. I know Coach pearson and he will have his Phantoms ready for this one. The Phantoms are better than Garfield or Venice and I know they can beat most LA City Teams.

  • Don

    Respondent:

My point wasn’t really about any of the games Amat WON, those were all stellar. Sorry if you were confused.

That said, this is pretty bold statement:

No Bishop Amat player or fan would trade a Division 7 Championship over a win over Orange Lutheran or St. Bonaventure.

Probably more truth there now but had you polled the players, their moms and dads, and the fans back during the learning curve you may have found a few willing to take a grubby little lower division ring.

You did though help make a point of something I’ve long believed, for many, it’s all about the attention. It used to be all about your kid’s name in the paper, as you pointed up, but the WWW has changed that, perhaps for the worse. Thanks.

May we look back a moment? All hail the new Hacienda League and realinged leagues, but, no memoriums for the Miramonte league so unceremoniously laid to rest? How long did we have it? Who were its champions, its stellar players, its CIF titlists?
We have been through so many of these changes over the years and the ebb and flow of who was hot or not, or even existed, like Edgewood or Royal Oak. The Sierra League alone has gone through so many changes that probably only the morgue at the Trib could provide an accounting. That’s why a lot of this preseason posturing is so fanciful. There were times when today’s powers weren’t even on the radar and some of the contemporary cellar dwellers were on top. For consistency, like Los Altos once was and South Hills and Charter Oak have enoyed lately, you have to have an unending stream of players and the coaching who know how to use it. To read the blog you would think nearly every team will go undefeated and make the playoffs. Fred and Aram should have a reasonably accurate assumption, even this early, of where the power is. All we, and they, have to do now is wait for the games to be played. You will never be able to cite the best of the best here or anywhere else, until all of those teams play the exact same schedule against the same opponents or against each other. Until then, it’s all smoke and mirrors.

Just leaving Oceanside and the North County Tournament. CO took the tournament playing Ramona, Oceanside, Mission Hills, Sanger, Ranch Santa Margarita, Reeder, OLU and then the finals were between CO and Crescenta Valley. Fred I will email you the team photo with the Trophy. Hopefully you or Aram can post it. Who ever said CO did not have skilled guys to keep up with Glendora is absolutly crazy. Other teams at the tournament included Granite Hills, Glendale, Murrietta Valley, Scripps Ranch, Crespi, El Camino, Serra, Fountain Valley, Mission Valley and even El Monte.

You and the others are comparing Division 7 football with the Pac-5. The Pac-5 is the #3 toughest division in the entire country to play in. The only stronger programs come from the legendary Texas 5-A division as well as Ohio State Division-1.

In California, the second toughest division is the Inland Division. This division ranked #27 in the country.

You are comparing chalk with cheese, my friend.

  • TIME WILL TELL

No need for anymore or this talk . This coming season the SGV teams of the Sierra will face some top notch competition when playoffs come around. As we know via Norco’s posting teams of the Inland are as stong if not stronger than some of the teams in the Pac-5 . Hold on Norco before you start with data and stats I am not knocking you just using your input in my post. Now having said that when and if CO ,SH ,and Damien make the playoffs and face a CC, Norco , Roosevelt , and others will see what they are made of and if they are up to the challenge of playing with some upper division teams. More then likely that outcome of any of the SGV against the IE powers will shed a little more light on what it means to face these types of team on the way a to CIF championship . If any of the 3 SGV teams I mentioned have a chance it will be CO .SH couldn’t even get past DR so what makes them think they even have a chance. To face powers like the teams in the Big 8 week after week to get to the next levels is something the 3 SGV teams have never faced and have no experience at all on what that feels like .Think what you want but I am sure many of you would say that if any of those 3 SGV teams would play Edison , LBP , Servite in the first round none would see the second round. Well that is what they are in store for this coming season if they make the playoffs. Then maybe you will understand what it is like to win a CIF title in the upper divisions and just how tough it is . There are no DR types of teams in these finals.

I think out of the last ten years, CO may come up with a team that could beat Amat maybe 2 or 3 times. Basic had a good point when he said Amats wins over the O lu’s and St. Bonnies were such big wins because going into those games no one thought Amat had a chance. Who is to say that a CO team, such as the 2008 team with a great set of skill players to go along with Evan Williams and Tyler Perry, who were monsters on the line could not have pulled off a similar feat? They tied a pretty good CIF champion in Rancho Cuccamonga that year, who was 13-0-1 and had beaten the Los Osos team that had gone toe to toe with Amat before beating the Lancers in the last minute. I believe RC also beat Upland twice that year. I also remember reading that Rancho C. was fortunate to come up with that tie and CO looked like the better team in that game.
I know Amat had beat O-Lu that year which is a great win for any team in the SGV, but O Lu struggled with Tustin the very next week, is it not possible that CO could have had a decent shot at O Lu that year? I think so.
2007 was a bad year for Amat and CO was very good that year, I think CO would win in that year too. Last season in 09 I think Amat wins a close game, Chris Allen, Tyler Perry and Evan Williams were gone and thats the difference between the CO team of 08 and 09. Although with that set of skill players that CO had they would have a shot if Amat was off on their game. So in the past decade I think CO wins in 07 and 08 mostly because of Perry and Williams on the line.

  • ENOUGH ABOUT CO AND AMAT!!

I play football for glendora and i guarantee that glendora will beat Co and take Co down a peg cause they need to be knocked down a couple pegs! and after Co gets beat it will be obvi that glendora should be a top spot or top two!

  • Pacman

    IMWTK

It’s been 16 years since BA won the Pac-5. Servite won it last year…their first title since 1983.

I don’t think anyone on here is ignorant enough to deny the greatness of Servite football. I don’t think anyone on here would judge Servite or call them inferior because it’s been 26 years.

You cannot begin to compare or imagine how difficult it is to win the Pac-5 (#3 most difficult in the USA according to Calpreps). To put things in perpespective, Bishop Amat was knocked out of the playoffs in the 2nd round to Lakewood who lost the following week to Edison who lost to Servite. This puts BA pretty low on the Pac-5 totem pole right?

Going into the 4 Quarter against Diamond Ranch, Charter Oak was up 6-0 the first time they played and 7-0 the second time they played. CO’s passing game was non-existant. Using a balanced attack, and going into the 4 Quarter, Bishop Amat was up 41-7 over DR. You may not believe in comparative scoring but I think this one catches the eye does it not?

It’s unfortunate that it is going to take Charter Oak fans a game versus Corona Centennial or Chaparral to understand what I am talking about.

  • Ro

this debate used to happen in the early to mid 80s between Los Altos and Amat..everyone used to say Los Altos was better because they dominated opponents those years with mike smith and blake smith at quarterback. they finally got to play each other and look what happened. eric bienemy ran for over 300 yards and routed los altos. no contest.we need to see amat play charter oak to shut up charter oak.glendora will beat charter oak this year

  • Amused Reader

What has Amat done? It’s competed against higher competition and in a higher division than any other school outside of Orange County. So they don’t have a title. Not too many teams that aren’t named Mission Viejo (open enrollment), Long Beach Poly (open enrollment), Edison (open enrollment), etc have won titles in the top Division. Has Charter Oak ever played against De La Salle (on the road no less)? If Amat was in the lower divisions in football they’d be racking up titles like they started to in baseball. Charter Oak, South Hils, Los Altos would have none if they were in the same division. Charter Oak on their best year couldn’t beat Amat on their worst.

  • I agree

I dont believe in comparative scoring but there is a difference between being up 6-0 or 7-0 and 41-7 going into the fourth quarter.

  • http://www.insidesocal.com/sgvfootball Aram

Such a hard argument because like I said earlier, it’s imprecise. Head-to-head, Amat probably wins. As far as tangible results (things like league and CIF titles), CO definitely wins.

I just don’t think you can say who is the better program RIGHT NOW by asking yourself who would win if they played.

Amat needs to be judged against the company it keeps. CO needs to be judged against the company it keeps. The dynamics of both schools are too different to do it any other way.

And when you judge the two programs against the company they keep, then you have to take the one that’s playing into December. One school is winning CIF titles and sending players on to the next level. One school is beating great programs in the regular season, not getting past the second round (and that’s only last year), and sending kids to college as well. I think even I maybe guilty of putting more stock into CO’s college signees because they’re skill guys.

Man, imagine combining CO’s skill guys with Amat’s everything else. Sick. They do a better job of things like that in the OC than we do here in the SGV, but whatever.

That doesn’t mean Amat’s not on its way. It looks like it is. But I can’t help but notice most arguments in favor of Amat are for regular-season wins and those wins mostly came last season.

  • IMWTK

For the sake of your argument Bishop Amat Nation, maybe what you can do for us to better gain some insight to your point of view is give us an analogy and compare your football program to a college or professional football team that has had the same historical perspective. Does anyone have any teams that come to mind?

Quality wins during the season mean just that quality wins but at the end of the day what I would remember would be t-shirts, patches, banners, rings and being able that say I was a league or C.I.F. CHAMPION not that I beat somebody during the regular season. Last time I remember wins like yours seriously big picture are insignificant because there is literally nothing to show for those wins other than just one win in your record column for each quality opponent you beat and at the end of the day so what no one other than you can really talk about or cares to remember.

Honestly how and why are those wins such a big deal? They really can’t and shouldn’t be when you compare them to CHAMPIONSHIPS!

Go ahead show me the t-shirt, patch, banner, or ring you wear for those victories. Second place is last place as far as I remember and don’t say you would rather have those wins compare to a championship because seriously is that the lasting memory you want you son to have was losing his last game instead of taking a photo as a league AND C.I.F. CHAMPION?

  • Analogies

    Here’s your analogy.

Pick a perennial playoff caliber team that went a long time without a Super Bowl Champion. Say the Cowboys or Bears now or the Steelers between ’80-’06. Now compare any of them to the Montreal Alouettes, Calgary Stampeders, or Toronto Argonauts of the CFL; the Arizona Rattlers , Orlando Predators, and Tampa Bay Storm of the Arena League – who all have championships, albeit not at the highest level of football.

So you can’t compare NFL teams who have good regular season wins with teams that have NFL titles and say it’s similar to this discussion. They are both in the NFL. By comparison – CO is NOT in the NFL but a slightly lower level of football – like the Canadian League or the Arena League. Looks kinda the same – but isn’t really.

Would YOUR son rather be a Cowboy – or an Alouette?

  • Ralph M.

To some in the SGV it does not matter what Bishop Amat HS does come football season. They are the best ticket in town to go watch a HS football game. I have been to CO,Glendora,SD,Los Altos, Wilson, Walnut,Damien games, there is no excitment there like a Bishop Amat game. Standing room only on Friday nites, a quality opponent, a 50/50 draw of some good cash, a In and Out truck, Tailgating at its finest. They take to the road and have one of the biggest followings wherever they go. Sure championships are great and hopefully one day there is one around the corner, but when it comes to football at the HS level and bang for your buck on Friday nites, Bishop Amat football stand above all the rest in the SGV. My second choice for a HS game would be St. Francis. CO games are really boring and hopefully now that they moved to that new division where the competition will be greater we will get some better games vs quality opponents. Of course your losses will come with that also.

I wathced a couple of damiens 7 on 7 scrimmages & saw some good & not so good. Ramirez looks good @ rb. They have alot of holes that need to be filled, especially on defense. I saw a pair of twin brothers on the varsity for the first time this year. Talking to a parent, he said their names were Sherwood. I know it was 7 on 7, but the team they were playing could not cover the twins at all. If they are tough enough, they will help Damien. The qb looked okay, Ramirez is definitely their bright spot. They look like they are in for a long year, but the future looks better. I here about this Hawkin kid, But he missed alot of open guys. Alot of hype surrounds this kid, & his brother who is an incoming freshman. If they can live up to the hype, damien will be alot better in a few years.

You have got me there — there’s no better setting in the SGV for football than Amat. They do great at away games, too. Biggest fan base in the SGV by far, which is great. I like Damien home games, too. The Pit is pretty special. St. Francis is a gorgeous place with the fans standing on the overhangs. CO is solid, too. Pick against CO and see how the fans treat you. They always let me have it. Great stuff.

  • Arams an idiot

Aram it seems to me that you like talking out of your azz quite a bit.

At first you begin this whole stupid charade by saying CO is the best program in the valley.

I’ll say it again, YOU SAID CO WAS THE BETTER OF THE TWO football team’s.

Then Joe Amat, and a few others tear you a new one by giving you a few fact’s and stat’s that you somehow cant dispute, then you seem to realize the error of your waya and blame the whole thing on all those meds you were taking last night.

Now of course, your saying that head to head, Amat wins.

Tell me how, in your mind anyway, a so called inferior team beats a two time CIF champion anyway ?

    Aram, your an idiot

  • Fred, where do we go from here ?

This blog is suppose to be all about local prep sports, but I have to say that there is still a long ways yet to go before we can actually the first game of the year.

Having said that, my question to you is, which game are you going to want to cover on the first week of the year ?

Will you be traveling outside of the San Gabriel valley, or will you be sticking to a game much closer to home ?

I guess it all depends on your budget, but if you ask me, I think there there are allot of hard choices to be made each and every week this year.

I only wish that there were more Thursday night games, because there are some very good match ups coming our way this time around.

  • window shopping

Ralph M – great point. That might answer a question. “Who has the best _program_” Go to a game and find out. Pick CO’s most important home game of the year. Attend any Bishop Amat game. Compare the experience and you’ll know which “program” is the best. No comparison

  • Debate is over

This whole debate between CO and BA will stop very soon. CO as well as the other Sierra teams will never win an Inland Division title. For the first time in SGV History, BA has a greater chance of winning the Pac-5 than CO winning the Inland.

But more imporantly, BA now has a direct connection with USC in Pat Haden, who is still an active Lancer.

    Stat Girl,

Can you give me the stat on how high that Amat Baseball team was ranked last year in the state? and how many titles did they win down in the LOWER divisions??? Point? A ring in ANY division is a BIG deal just ask any of those Amat Baseball players what would they rather have, an article about how great and how high they were ranked, or a CIF Ring even if it was in a Lower Division (Div 4 to be exact).

My point is still the same, IF we are only talking about the last 3 years and ONLY the last three years, CO has the edge in my book. With the teams CO has had the last 3 years, they too could have pulled a HUGE UPSET here and there just like BA did, because that is what BA did, they got some huge upset victories. Now go 10 years and then I have to say BA is by FAR the better program…

    Basic,

How can you say that when the toughest opponent Coach Lou has coached againts has been Bishop Amat or Rancho Cucamonga (who lost the previous 2 years to BA)? You can’t compare these two schools. They play on entirely different levels.

  • AMAT 73

    Basic,
I think if you wade through all these posts you know the majority of known AMAT bloggers and by that I mean either the ones who have AMAT or LANCER in their screen name or something to do with the school or bloggers who have shown their allegence to AMAT such as Jcaz , Just sayin, and so forth not the ones who change their names by the post do not knock the championships of any SGV school regardless of the division. Well I must admit Just sayin does let the love of AMAT glasses get the better of him sometimes. Sure we would have loved the D-4 baseball title and to have gone back to back in D-5 . Didn’t happen no crying over that . CIF in the ultimate wisdom places teams where they see fit . You keep bringing up the last three years as to CO having the edge , why you keep using the last three years is plain to see . 2 titles in a row and a fairly good year previous to that .I replied that 1 of those 3 for us was a Verti year even though we had a few good wins not a stellar year for AMAT . You can defintely point to huge wins for AMAT ( upsets for you ) in those 3 years but you are correct no CIF titles. Now my point to you in using those 3 years please point out 1 just 1 huge win for CO against a top notch program because huge wins to one are sometimes not to another where I can say maybe Basic has a point . In order to say what you are saying you must have something other than the titles to back up the edge CO has over AMAT .Why it is so easy to knock AMAT down is because we face the LBP’s,Crespi’s , Lakewood’s,Mater Dei’s , on a regular basis and we do not win all of them and when we lose it easy for all to jump on us as not being able to hang with the top teams . The huge difference and I think you will see when you try to come up with the one huge win is we put on the line more often that not and when we fail the majority of the haters rejoice. Now we are talking football because in baseball, CO really is not in the topic of top teams in the valley just as AMAT is thought of in basketball . You need to know what your place is in the world of SGV sports. Now me I say I do have plenty of respect for what CO in football and I think Coach Lou and staff are a fine staff who I believe are better then the much praised Damien staff but the one quality win I see in the last 3 years is a tie with RC . Correct me if I am wrong. By the way I beleive our baseball team did get as high as # 2 in the nation or state can’t remember exactly which for a quick cup of coffee and I mean quick. One last thing is you say about the hige wins is that CO could have done it, well the difference is that AMAT did do it and that tells the story. One guesses or speculates while the other one does it .

I have no idea who you are…But why in the hell would you post a video from CHAPARRAL HS in Arizona? lol…what a clown..CHAPARRAL HS from the Inland is located in Temecula…

    Here’s the dividing line.

CO wins back to back CIF Championships and is no where in the conversation for a State Bowl Game. Serra finally wins ONE and is in the mix. If, and when Amat wins a CIF Championship, they are in the conversation, maybe even regardless of record. The winner of the Pac 5 could have a DR style season and win the Championship game and get an invite whereas CO goes on a “tear” for over three years culminating in a league shut out season and still isn’t invited. And where NEVER in the mix.

Not taking anything away from CO, who I’d play for and really admire, but that’s a the ugly truth. Argue all you want but IF CO wins out in their new division they’re a LOCK for a Bowl game.

Coaching Matters but so does QUALITY and that is Amat’s home turf. Something they have fostered over 30 plus years! Arguing that is infantile.

IF the question on the table is which school has the best program I think it’s important to quantify the word “best”. What’s the criteria? Let’s all pretend to have some level of education and critical thinking skills.

Like when Fred made out his top coaches list that excluded Morrison. I might get flack for hating on Scott but what was Fred’s excuse? 20 coaches and no Morrison, come on Fred you OBVIOUSLY HATE MORRISON ..RIGHT???? The truth hurts some times and sometimes it’s just the truth. No hate at all. Laying out criteria helps temper the hate online. That was my point all along. He was a technical guy, lacked a defensive mind, hired poorly and was NOT a people person. All verifiable looking back.

Let’s look at this question OBJECTIVELY. Best could mean lots of things. Which program is best at all things (over all experience) …I’d say Glendora or San Dimas. Which is best at getting players “out there”….Diamond Ranch. Which program plays the toughest schedule, probably Damien. But if BEST means play in and play out from practice to game…Amat wins hands down. The truth is in eventual division champion, QUALITY COUNTS!!!

So who has the “ELITE” program in the valley…that’s easy…quantify “ELITE”…get the picture?

After all these years people still spend time rehashing old arguments. How about we all up the intellect a bit instead of having playground shoving matches that make grown men look like fools.

  • Amat Baseball and Scheduling Up

    Basic

BA Baseball schedules up big time taking on some of the best opponents in the State. They may play in a lower division yet BA Baseball has consistantly been ranked among the top tiered baseball programs.

    Why you ask?

Because they actually scheduled (in preleague) and beat several of these top tiered baseball programs. Unlike CO football, who has yet to play a juggernaut. You see the difference?

Ok, here’s another way you can look at it…Amat Baseball is exactly like St. Bonaventure or Hart football…lower division but considered elite due to SUPERIOR competition and SUCCESS against that competition. No one knocks Oaks Christian because they are in a lower divsion right? Of course not!

    Finally,

It is completely ignorant (not stupid) to compare the Pac-5 with SS D-1 Baseball. The Pac-5 is a nationally recognized beast of a football division.

    Amat 73:

You are correct, other than the CIF titles they have no “Significant” win AND if you go any further than lets say 5 years, then Amat by far has a better program. My only statement was about the Programs for the last three years, which is where I “cut” the line. Let’s not knock CO for what they did. Look I am a Bearcat homer so I don’t really like CO, thought they should have been moved up ages ago and now they have been and will face some actual competition, so it will be interesting.

    MM:
The Original statement was about what program is currently better and like you said, that could mean many things for many people. Now if you want Elite then yeah I agree with you that Amat is Elite, I never said otherwise. My constant is that for the last few years CO has been on a tear and in MY opinion they could have beaten Amat. They should have been moved up a long time ago, to bad it has happened now because I thought two years ago was their best team.

    Amat baseball:
come on now, EVERYONE knows why they did not play the Glendora Tourney…The possibility of getting embarrassed by the likes of Bonita and Glendora. The baseball argument about playing UP is the same argument about the Football team playing Down: IF the BB team beats those upper programs it’s all good but if they loose well then at least they play those tough school, right? So if the football team beats up on lower teams, well they are suppose to but IF they loose then it’s a fiasco. My point, Amat BB has everything to gain by playing Up and Amat Football has everything to loose by playing down.

I’ve said this in every post, IF you look at both Programs for more than 5 years then Amat is a better program, IF you look only at the last three years, in MY opinion CO was. Please noticed I said WAS because Amat was back last year and they will be better this year, again in my opinion…

  • Amat Who?

    AMAT BB

So, you beat some good teams in pre-season. Has Amat won a ring having moved up from D5?

Do you want the ring or bragging pre-season rights? What the heck has Amat done since moving out of D5?

I am sure you know the answer..

Will Upland repeat CIF Again this Year? They looked good in Passing League when i saw them.

  • 50+46+53+34+43=DEFENSE !!!!

Seen Upland at Amat and they are a agile, mobile and hostile. Yes they are. The QB is solid, teh routes are well thought out and balanced but I didn’t see them run the ball.

On defense they are mean. Simple as that! They have speed and skill and of course are well coached. Going to be tough to not give them their due this year.

Never been to an Upland game but that might be a good game to take in. We’ll see.

  • guess

Looking forward to September 24th.Upland will play Norco It will be a good test to see just how good Upland really is.They were good last year. And I talked to some of the Upland guys. They said they are Stronger and Faster this year.O-LINE and D-LINE is a big question?????

Surely a questionable l ist.Equally Aol and Nickelodeon do notdeserve to be inside the greatest redesigns,in my opinion.Amount one redesign must be the City of Melbourne logo.

This is getting a bit more subjective, but I much prefer the Zune Marketplace. The interface is colorful, has more flair, and some cool features like ‘Mixview’ that let you quickly see related albums, songs, or other users related to what you’re listening to. Clicking on one of those will center on that item, and another set of “neighbors” will come into view, allowing you to navigate around exploring by similar artists, songs, or users. Speaking of users, the Zune “Social” is also great fun, letting you find others with shared tastes and becoming friends with them. You then can listen to a playlist created based on an amalgamation of what all your friends are listening to, which is also enjoyable. Those concerned with privacy will be relieved to know you can prevent the public from seeing your personal listening habits if you so choose.

Count me as a further individual surpr ised that you simply did notinclude pepsi on the ??worst??? l ist and even acknowledge their redesign.Other precise comments. The brand new Pfizer logo looks sloppy and careless to me. The blue clearspace approximately the wordmark is uneven. I just like the notion, but the execution is undesirable. The old one is tighter.I do notunderstand what you like greater about the new Guitar Hero logo. The unfavorable space among the letters helps make it virtually extremely hard to study for me.As for El Banco Deuno, I do notget it whatsoever. The line breaks appear fully jarring to me and remind me of a logo I did for my s ister is line of crafts when I was about 15 (it was the phrase pollywogs??? on two lines, that has a hyphen?- ugh).Lastly, I would really like to see your l ist of Identities which can be in desperate require of a redesign. My #1 select would be Verizon.
