Hernandez on Amat, “Sometimes we question why did we do it, but the challenge is there.”

While Garfield isn’t exactly the monster many of us would like to see Bishop Amat tackle in its season opener on Sept. 3, which will be at East L.A. College, it appears the Bulldogs are taking this seriously, sort of like Rocky in his first fight against Creed. Check out Eric Sondheimer’s blurb in the Times’ today about Garfield’s spirited practice sessions. Coach Lorenzo Hernandez on facing Bishop Amat, “Sometimes we question why did we do it, but the challenge is there.”

  • I gotta tell you, it’s kinda hard that Rio wears No. 9. You don’t see many QBs these days reppin’ 9. Or maybe I’m just crazy.

  • AMAT 73

Maybe because it is the next best thing to being a 10 and we all know who that number belongs to .

  • Joe Amat

How about the guy that held up THIS trophy?

Not a bad guy to pattern yourself after?

  • Oooh, Brees is a good one. All that came to my mind was Jim McMahon and if I asked Nine about him he’d probably stare at me like I have lobsters crawling out of my ears. Getting old …

  • Joe Amat

Not SO old… I was thinking this one:

but Romo’s another popular one with the young guys

  • amat forever

Number doesn’t make the man, the man makes the number

  • Brock Fan

How’s Brock Booth doing at the QB position at AMAT?

Will he be ready to back up RIO when he misses for baseball games?

  • sorry bishop nation

I’m sure the bishop coaches and players are good persons, but becuz of the arrogant fans I will b hoping 4 a Garfield Victory.

  • jcaz

73 and Aram, because you two were talking about numbers…

why was six afraid of seven ?

    Because, 7, ate nine….

Ok ok, I couldn’t help myself, I just had to say it ok….

  • 1st and goal

    Brock Fan

Brock has not been working out at QB much. He has been working out at a different position. Now that the men are in full gear, we can see who is ready to work for their positions.

Bishop will beat Garfield no problem. Thereal Test comes game 4 at Cathedral. The Phantoms could easily defeat both Garfield and Roosevelt soundly with no problem at all. I hope Amat does not take the Phantoms lightly.

  • Lan C. Erbacker

Amat takes no one lightly. Bishop Amat is used to playing with a Bulls-eye on their chests. Everyteam will be ready to play the Lancers. Beating the Bishop Amat Lancers is a season highlight for some teams. Not trying to sound “arrogant” but Amat knows what we are getting into everytime we take the field against any opponent. Rest assured, Amat will be ready! Garfield ad Cathedral better be ready. Every week is a new game and a new opponent That’s how we (Amat) takes them…one game at a time. PREPARATION, HARDWORK, COMMITMENT!!! GO BIG BLUE!
