Bishop Amat not just telling us it has Pac-5 title aspirations, it’s letting everyone know

FYI: For those interested, Bishop Amat’s annual blue-gold scrimmage is on Friday at 7 p.m., at Kiefer Stadium. You want your first look at this team, show up.

From the L.A. Times’ Eric Sondheimer: My advice to teams: Don’t overlook La Puente Bishop Amat. This is a program with Pac-5 Division title aspirations, and for good reason. The new quarterback, junior Rio Ruiz, was probably the best sophomore baseball player in the state last season, and he certainly isn’t playing football just for fun. He wants a championship.

    Fred,

You are talking about a kid that hasn’t taken a varsity snap at the position. Why does the tribune talk this kid up so much? He hasn’t proven nothing yet. Maybe you haven’t figured this out yet, this isn’t baseball. Their are so many other PROVEN SENIOR quarterbacks out their that deserve the press.

I’m sure the Bishop Amat coaching staff knows what they are doing. It’s very simple. Ruiz has obviously impressed during the summer. If he does well, he’ll start. If he does not, he will not start. If someone else has had better practices, then they will start. It’s really that simple.

By the way, some LONG BEACH POLY guy is talking smack about BA on the LA Times blog.

Hagerty has only pushed the right buttons with the Amat program and has improved it 10 fold since the mistake of the Verti years. I cant imagine Hags being wrong naming Rio his QB. Rio Ruiz has all the tools, come out and watch him tonite. Jealousy with some of these Amat haters. Rio is the right player to be under center for Amat this season and come his senior season man what numbers this man-child will put up.

There is a place for everything and everything has its place (or something like that?). Amat will take care of Amat. Coach Hags will take care of the business of Amat Football and the Amat Faithful have nothing but confidence in the ship he sails. As far as LB Poly goes….we will address them when it becomes necessary to even think about them. Right now the only “Game” on Amat’s mind is Garfield Sept. 3rd. Notice I said Game, Upland is a scrimmage. You don’t really win a scrimmage, that’s not what they are for.

Bishop Amat gets both of these angry animals back on defense this season!

  • 50/50

My money says that Amat goes 50/50 this season in no particular order. Too much hype on unproven talent. The first half of the season is going to be Amats best games. Hopefully they can overcome the hype before the season begins or there will be a lot of dissapointed La Puente Fans. Fred stay out of the Amat Cool Aid Jar. No Anderson No Amat…No Playoffs PERIOD!

Not only has he not taken a snap as.a varsity player, but he’s never played QB. Daddy Ruiz and Fred have a relationship is my guess though. He’s he has been known as a true brown noser.

  • just askin’

wasn’t he the QB his freshman year? does that qualify as having played QB before?
