Tough comments from CIF on South Hills

“Just because you change principals doesn’t mean you should change principles,” Southern Section Director of Information Thom Simmons said. “As members of CIF, South Hills has the right, responsibility and duty to make the rules as part of the organization which they are members of.”
“It’s disappointing that South Hills took so long to do this,” Simmons said. “I can’t remember challenges ever happening this late. I can’t say it’s never happened, but I just don’t remember any happening this late. I know one thing for a fact, no school has ever challenged as many as South Hills. The rule has only been in a place for a couple of years, so there’s not a lot of history. But in those two years, nobody’s challenged as many.”

… In fairness, I believe Duarte challenged as many if not more last year.

South Hills is done. You better jump on the Charter Oak bandwagon before it gets going to fast.

Dang Freddy, low hit day on the blog huh, that and no new AMAT news until after tonights scrimmage?? Seems like you are trying to incite a Riot by pulling these comments out seperately as a blog entry, given the fact you have used them (and Aram as well) in by rough count 2 or 3 seperate other blog entries. But what the heck, finished my lunch, I’m bored, so I’ll bite.

First off, let’s take this now off South Hills, sure everyone is pi$$xd off at them for pulling what appears to be sour grapes and “revenge” for last year. Sure it is, kids have been “enrolled” at these schools for a little while, should they have filed something the day they left campus, well maybe, but not until Summer football practice begins was it for sure they were planning on playing at the new schools… ok, enough.

You did some good reporting to call CIF and get some feedback. But what did you really get??? Simmons is the Director of Communication, listed on the CIF SS Org Chart just above the admin assistants. This is a very harsh comment for someone who is I believe supposed to be the “voice” of the CIF. Now what you should do is make a few calls and try and get a confirming quote from someone of “importance” at CIF to really see if they back Simmons comments. Call James Staunton (Commissioner) or Rob Wigod (Asst Commissioner), someone off the Officers , or Executive Committee, or even someone off the Football Advisory committee… my guess is that this was not meant to be the “official” press release for CIF. If it is, and I was South Hills, I would be raising holy hell. Especially as you so correctly put it, singling out South Hills when Duarte did the same thing last year (seems he forgot that)….. anyway, I am in no way a South Hills supporter, but more poking fun at you Freddie Boy for insighting a riot by publishing the comments and then singling them out again here to raise the blood pressure… my bet is the Senior folks at CIF are not too happy about such a blatently biased opinion coming out of their “official” voice….

Now getting confirmation on that would be some good reporting… my bet is it would be met by a round of “no comments” from her on out….

OK, now you have your first comment on the “hot topic”… if this get’s released.

  • just sayin’

You ask for someone of “importance” at CIF? Simmons serves as THE spokesperson which means his job IS to speak for CIF and Direct all Communications. that’s as good as you;re gonna get.

TeachDGame, for a guy who’s got no dog in this fight, you seem to have more than a passing interest in this entire discussion.

BTW, even though I might somewhat agree with you in that, maybe, possibly, the folks who run this blog are playing up this story, I still have to say that if I were the parents of these kids, that I would be incensed at what South Hills just Did.

Maybe it’s not such a bad idea to keep the heat on them because quite frankly, they deserve to feel some heat for the chicken schitz deal they just passed out to these kids.

Remember, this is not just a situation where these kids can simply go back to their old schools and teams. Can you imagine all the BS that they would have go through if they had to go back ? The taunting for thier fellow students, and the attitude from the coaching staff towards them ?

You know, if you could make an argument)as someone on this, or the other blog made the other day), that these kids might have lost out on scholarships money to attend college, then someone has to consider the idea of suing the actual people who brought this challenge to CIF in the first place.

If it were sucessfull, then that would put a stop real fast to this sort of thing.

Worst case scenario out of all of this ? It let’s them pay for little johnny’s four year education if successful.

  • Good Job Freddie!

    Fred,

Great job keeping this thing front and center in everyone’s mind….fans, CIF, schools, etc.

This is exactly what South Hills wanted when they protested the transfers.

They want everyone to realize how unfair this rule is and piss everyone off so much that they will act and change the rule.

Last year when South Hills was affected by Duarte’s challenge, everyone said South Hills was whining. You didn’t hear a peep out of CIF and the clown they have for a spokesman.

Now, South Hills is just sitting back watching everyone else whine including CIF. The shoe is on the other foot now and it seems to be a little tight. Funny how that happens!

If CIF doesn’t make all of them ineligible like they did with the Canada’s and BP tansfers last year, I wouldn’t be surprised if the Canada’s or other boys at BP would file a lawsuit for discrimination or something else.

CIF has painted themselves into a corner….and they don’t seem to like that corner this year. Last year they didn’t mind though. That’s funny!

The tragedy this year and last year is that the kids are also paying the price. The Canada’s and BP transfers last year and Booth, Gilchrist and the others this year.

Hopefully someday they will be able to look back and say, “We were the reason that they changed the rule.”

  • Get Real

Can we please stop acting like South Hills is performing some profound act of civil disobedience?

Thay are invoking a rule that even they don’t like and doing that isn’t going to change the rule. The only way the rule changes is if a league proposes a change. If South Hills didn’t like the rule, that is what they should have done.

I know Teach and I had the same thoughts. Fred already reported these commments in another blog and then he takes them and makes a new blog. Teach is dead on and he does not have dog in this fight.

  • JFR

    Fred,

I could be wrong but didn’t you post an article on this blog a few months back stating that SH would not challenge these transfers. If so could you re-post so we can see if there are any quotes. I know this is your Edgewood family but I’m pretty sure your job is to be OBJECTIVE.

  • FredJ

I’d have to look, but I remember mentioning something about South Hills not challenging Booth at the time, because he was originally cleared, but obviously South Hills had a change of heart. BTW, JFR, what have I not been objective about, I was the first to report that Booth was ineligible, and even noted on the same thread that South Hills might follow suit by protesting the other transfers that left, which we learned the following day they had, and our paper has reported the heck out of it since, stories which I have posted on this blog. Have also been on record several times disagreeing with schools that challenge transfers, I’ve always felt a parent/player should be able to go where they want, and even said as much on video with Aram a few days ago. In this instance, I pointed out the harsh comments of the CIF spokesperson, and an inaccuracy about South Hills that he said he knew for a fact that no other school has challenged this many transfers at once, when it fact it happened just last year by Duarte. As far as posting this, I did post a similar comment on Aram’s thread, but waited until the actual story was printed today before posting it on my blog.

    Fred,

Sorry, It wasn’t meant as a bash.

  • TICKING TIME BOMB

    FRED,

I’M NOT PSYCHIC… BUT CIF AND THESE HIGH SCHOOLS ARE ASKING FOR IT.

LAST YEAR YOU SAW A FIELD SET ON FIRE BECAUSE SOME CRAZY FANATIC DAD OR DAD’S WERE UPSET.

YOU ALWAYS SEE PARENT FIGHTS IN THE STANDS.

SPORTS ARE EVERYTHING TO THESE PARENTS MOVING THEIR KIDS FROM SCHOOL TO SCHOOL.

SPORTS PARENTS ARE CRAZY ENOUGH ALREADY.

IT’S ALL A MATTER OF TIME…SOME PARENT IS GOING TO SNAP AND I MEAN “SNAP” JUST BECAUSE THERE KID CAN’T PLAY A CERTAIN SPORT.

    CAN’T ANYONE SEE THIS?

    THIS IS BAD! REAL BAD!

  • Old Timer

South Hills is and has always been one of the shadiest programs in this Valley. Whether its been football or baseball that school has had more people trnasfer into that school that shoulnd go there then probably any other school around.
For them to challenge anyone that wants to leave there school is calling the kettle black! They have been the benefit of tons of recruits that have transferred in over the last say 10 years. The Baseball and football team alone probably leads the Valley in trasfers. I know for a fact that about 5 years ago that SH was slapped on there hand from CIF about all the transfers coming into that school, mainly because they went out of there way to “recruit” as some would call it.

South Hills is classless and should be ashamed of challenging anyone who wants to leave, when over the years they have benefited more then anyone in this Valley!

    SH = classless IMO
