Tribune Super 35 Rankings: Amat holds steady; West Covina, Damien climb back in top ten

Tribune Super Rankings:
1. Bishop Amat (3-0) — You need to step back and realize how impressive this is. They lose Davis Cazares, Daniel Kane, Darien Johnson and now Austin Lacy on defense. They lose Jerry McClanahan and Jay Anderson on offense, yet these guys keep winning and winning. Amat honks better sit back and enjoy.
2. Glendora (3-0) – If they beat West Covina this week, they’re hands down, without a doubt No. 2 in the area until/unless Bishop Amat gets knocked off.
3. Charter Oak (2-1) – Even when they lost to Glendora I thought their offense had the potential to be better than the back-to-back champs’ offense. Come playoff time, the Chargers could be the Valley’s best chance for Inland advancement. I didn’t say title, I said advancement (in the playoffs).
4. Chino Hills (2-1) – You measure a team by how they perform in the big games, and beating Tesoro was certainly a big step forward.
5. Rowland (3-0) — What strikes me so far isn’t that Rowland’s offense is moving so fluidly behind QB Michael Ball, it’s the Raiders’ defense. Since the first half of Baldwin Park, the Raiders’ defense has been nails.
6. Bonita (3-0) – The feel good story of the year so far. Tip your hap to coach Eric Podley and the gang. Without their starting QB they beat San Dimas, Claremont and Santa Fe.
7. West Covina (2-1) — The Bulldogs have the best running game in the Valley and a defense that compliments it. There is only one test left, can they handle a high-flying pass-oriented team? That comes Friday against Glendora.
8. South Hills (1-1) — Got worked over good by West Covina, but don’t count them out by any stretch. Let’s see how they react on the road at Tesoro.
9. Damien (2-0) – After 35-0 win over Chaffey, Spartans back in top ten where they belong. They can really fly up the board with a win at Bishop Amat next.
10. Azusa (3-0) — The Aztecs are rising so quick in popularity they were on the Fred Roggin show over the weekend during the high school spotlight. They’re the true Boise State in these parts.

    So let me see if I have this straight. Covina is ranked #14 but they beat West Covina and are 3-0. South Hills gets Whacked by West Covina. Yet both of them are ranked above Covina? Seems like you guys have no respect for Covina. It would make sense that if I beat someone head to head that I should be ranked above them. Not taking anything away from the Dawgs. But shouldn’t Covina get some credit for beating them.
    We should also keep and eye on Claremont. They can give anyone a run for their money. Plus they will be getting healthy real soon here. I think Bonita has to be the biggest suprise of the season. I’m impressed with how losing their QB seems to have gotten the Bearcats focused. Here’s my question for them. If they are still rolling when he gets back to you make the change? Could that break their Mojo?
    As far as the other rankings go, I think Amat is a clear #1, and they should be. #2 through #10 would make a great BCS play-off. Little guys that would be your shot. You could be the Boise State of the SGV. It would interesting to say the least.

    South Hills won’t go anywhere this year. I watched them against WC and they have way too many two way players. Their tanks were empty in the 2nd half of the game.

    I guess they let you out of the “Black Hole” in Oakland! I’m sure someone at Azusa or the City called and had the smurfs put on the Fred Roggin show. They should have put you on AZTEC PRIDE the Al Davis of AZUSA HIGH FOOTBALL. “Just win baby” The Canyon City Miracle.I would bet that some of the SGV High School JV football teams would beat the smurfs.We will wait until November/December when the men separate the boys. FYI YOU HAVEN’T PLAYED ANYBODY! We will see in the playoffs, one and done.

    South Hills won’t go anywhere because the neighboring schools voted them out of the division. If they were in the Hacienda they would be fighting for a league title and CIF championshihp like anyone else. If they were in the Mid-Valley and Valle Vista they would cruise to another cif title. It’s all relative, Charter Oak, Glendora, Bishop Amat and South Hills play a schedule that nobody else in the Valley can relate too.

    Come Aaron give it a rest . Just be thankfull the Bearcats are winning and some place in the rankings . Follow what you wrote about rankings . Only ranking that matters is being number 1 when all is said and done. Good luck this Friday because it will be easy for Bonita to overlook this one.

    You know that whole thing about you do not lose your job to injury. The reason why Bonita has rolled has been because of the Running game and Spathias playing within himself and just being a game manager. He’s done great at that. When GP gets back and he’s ready to play he’ll play and the offense will be better than it has been which is scary as can be.

    Fred…herein lies the problem. Rowland and CO are ranked below others in the top 25, whereas here you have them ranked ahead. If we’re going to call this one writers opinion we can do that. But if it’s official it has to be in conjuction with the all encompassing list…build cred not lose cred.

    And they’re ranked different in MaxPreps, ranked different by CIF…the Trib’s rankings are put together by me, the All encompassing by Aram, pretty simple if you ask me.

    Have fun bird dog boy, KC won’t sniff infield. Maybe Twin scout team has players that aren’t very good in the infield and KC gets a look?

    Scout teams are just that, a team made up of players that might have a shot at the next level. Remember, the first rounders have issues at the next level.

    Nothing is a sure thing, and playing on a scout team doesn’t mean your better than the 3B or Shortstop on your HS team. Maybe some scout teams/scouts don’t understand the team concept.

    Everyone is all up covina’s butt because they are 3-0 mind you yes they did beat WC ok i give them that but the next 2 games were agaisnt gladstone and el monte are you serious guys??…like people are hyping teams up but not looking at the strength of their schedules….. yes i admit west covina has a hell of a team my hats of to them..but just this jibberish about otha teams that are 3-0 and 2-1 who play not so good programs is ridiculous…and for the schools like CO and SH look at their schedule’s but get no love because they have 1 or 2 losses, you’ll see a big difference in the caliber teams they play!!

    never stop brother,started tonight back with personnal trainer again,gave anckle a two week break,now its time to start knocking teams qb and rb out of game.its football,watched a great piece of college and h.s. football players,the great ones find ways to pick themselfs up when they get knocked down,the aveage players stays down and get carried off field and dont play hurt,quoted from alabamas head coach.
    hes really starting to get healthy,by league in two weeks maybe 180 to 185 lb,mini me,mini semi truck.i wish whiteys and longball richard,kids were running backs or qb against bonitas d.give us alittle fuel to smoke the big mouth dads kids…..

Yes. 2 CIF’s in a row are impressive, but up and coming powers MUST be recognized for what they’ve done THIS year. And the big powers who are struggling THIS year must EARN their way back to the top.     The divisions don’t breed ultimate football players. So stop saying Azusa hasn’t played somebody. I can guarantee Bell Gardens would roll on west co, south hills, and covina. But you can all argue based off fantasies and opinions. Because I guess you dumb people are right when you say “Azusa hasn’t played anybody”, But if you put an Azusa WideReciever next to a D1 Highschool wide reciever I guess the D1 will look like an NFL superstar to most blind and coldhearted adults. But in reality there isn’t much of a difference.
    This years West Covina isn’t what you can compare to past WC teams. Just as South Hills isn’t either. Covina is on a great recovery as well. Azusa is in the limelight right now. Accept it.
    The division 1 boys are the same size as football players in different divisions. Everyone makes the lower divisions seem like crap. To be honest the Mid Valley has most of the talent right now. And its all homegrown. You hear no transfer disputes in the mid valley.
    Stop crying because your kids, or teams, aren’t living up to your expectations. Act your age a little.
    And argue all you want to this post I won’t reply.

    I bilieve what kh was saying is that some players like to wear the uniform but when the going gets tough they tap out claiming injury especially at schools where avg. income is higher. S.D., Bohi, Claremont etc. Personal issues aside I think mini me would play with a broken leg. As for Whitey KH wishes your kids were out there against Bohis defense because he’s betting they would’nt last the game.

    The new Zune browser is surprisingly good, but not as good as the iPod’s. It works well, but isn’t as fast as Safari, and has a clunkier interface. If you occasionally plan on using the web browser that’s not an issue, but if you’re planning to browse the web alot from your PMP then the iPod’s larger screen and better browser may be important.
