Services Announcement
There will be a memorial service for Fred Fraijo on Monday at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church (16025 Cypress Ave., Irwindale, CA) from 6 to 9 p.m., with a rosary at 7 p.m. Funeral services are Tuesday at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church at 10 a.m. with the grave site ceremony at Oakdale Cemetary (1401 S. Grand Ave., Glendora, CA) immediately following the service. There will be a reception immediately following the grave site service at the Amvey Post 113 (14910 E. Los Angeles St., Irwindale).

Update: There was a huge turnout at Irwindale Park on Wednesday to mourn the loss of Fred Fraijo. Some of those that knew him shared their memories in today’s story. A fundraiser softball game that will include Northview baseball/softball alumni and anyone who played for coach Fraijo at any level is being set up at Irwindale Park next week with proceeds going to the Fraijo family. When I get all the details, I will certainly share it with you.

I am deeply saddened to have to report the following: Fred Fraijo, an assistant softball coach at Northview High School, died on Wednesday when his motorcycle collided with a big rig on the 10 freeway, Northview baseball coach Darren Murphy confirmed. The crash occurred on the eastbound 10 freeway east of Via Verde Street at 5:20 a.m., officer Fransisco Villalobos with the California Highway Patrol said. The motorcyclist was pronounced dead at the scene, Villalobos said. Fraijo was a well-known fixture in the community and a person I looked forward to seeing each and every trip to a Northview baseball or softball game. He was always huddled around his family, involved, and what you thought a family man should be. It’s a huge loss for everyone that knew him. His oldest daughter Crystal starred in Vikings softball, attended Cal State University San Bernardino and is an assistant softball coach at Bishop Amat. His daughter Hannah led the Vikings softball team to the 2008 Valle Vista League championship, was the league MVP, the Tribune athlete of the year and is at Cal State Northridge. His son Shane Fraijo played for Murphy and starred on the Vikings’ 2008 championship baseball team. Fred Fraijo is survived by his wife Paula, and five children, which also includes sons Joshua and Jacob. Our thoughts and prayers are with the family.
