wow - why do many schools have a "ZERO" period on their school day schedule too.?

When the "ZERO week was added their already were hundreds of schools that had their schedules set w/ "Week 1, Week 2, Week 3 etc all set. How do you fix that without mass confusion?

Wow how interesting. West Covina has gone from being one of the top 4 or 5 teams in the SGV to totally out of the top 10. Man did the wheels come off their bandwagon or what. They need to fire Maggorie right now. We can't let this go on. Lets put someone else at the helm of the Bulldogs before it's to late. Maggorie obviously has now idea what he is doing.

Calm down people. I have said it before and I will say it again. Pre-season doesn't really matter in Football. It is just a tune up for league. So when West Covina comes back and wins the Hacienda League, will the Wheels on their bandwagon all of a sudden get fixed so all the front runners can hop back on?

I've always had a strong opinion. I love my Bearcats. I'm going to own this. It took a long time to recover from Collitis and when it was time for me to step up and get back on the field I did it partially because I loved the game and still do. The other reason wasn't for myself, and it definitely wasn't for my teammates. So I made the decision to stop playing, so I turned in my gear. You know what Coach said to me: "Football is not for everyone, but, good luck."

Do I wish I had stayed? At the time, no, now? Possibly. It's cool that whoever you are wants to come on here and say that, it is the truth and honestly I have nothing to hide.

Every time I'm home, I stop by practice to watch the kids I saw grow up and always to have a chat with Coach Podley. He kept my head up in a dark period of my life along with all of the other life lessons that he continues to teach a new crop of young players every year.

spathias didnt have a good game so dont try saying he did he threw 3 picks it was his first game so im sure he had jitters but remember he played last year against claremont and muffed 3 snaps from under center so he has a chance to redeem himself this week i think he could be an average qb and people talk about pendalton good beacause he was a returning starting qb who had good confidence he always had the playbook down and the smarts he just didnt have that confidence last year if he comes back with that confidence there gonna have a really dangerous offense

CHS will be a better test for BHS than SD. CHS has a senior loaded team and if the new rb is healthy? Spathais made his first varisty start, give him a break, he played pretty good considering, bagging on him after one start is akin to giving the injured QB all the props based on passing league and workouts, both could be good or?, time will tell. The brothers deserve the props, one was spectatular at times and the other had a solid game all game. CHS QB and offense is pretty good with skill guys to make plays. The game will be won or lost with the D.

Just a question. What is a ZERO (0) week. I guess that speaks wonders about the ZERO's running CIF. Why can't or doesn't CIF use week ZERO as week one and say you have eleven (11) weeks to play ten (10) games. If you want a scrimmage in week one (1), scrimmage. If you want a BYE in any week start your season at week one and schedule your bye accordingly. Common sense says you don't use ZERO unless of corse you are a ZERO.

Covina looks solid, it wasnt luck that beat WesCov last week, it was heart. Coach Darryl Thomas is a workhorse and trains his players to be disciplined. Covina =2010 VVL Champs!

Coach Larson, who was the head coach at Damien from 1975 to 1998, led the Spartans to CIF Championships in 1977 and 1982, as well as 9 league championships and 18 playoff appearances. How is it different? Glendora capitalized on turnovers and made touchdowns just like CO did
against WC. You say losing 35 to 10 is different than losing 27 to 21, how do you think the score got to be 35 to 10. Because of the 4 or 5 turnovers. According to CO Glendora didn't generate much offense, well WC had almost 300 on the ground alone, they moved rather easily against CO. I'm just saying CO should give Glendora their props that they were the better team on that night, doesn't mean Glendora will end the season better, if not then its hypocrisy
on their part.

West Covina got beat that's it. CIF has tons of good teams. Sometimes lower division teams can beat upper division teams. For example, Bishop Amat plays the toughest schedule every year... but does that mean that they could not lose to Say...A Muir or Chino Hills? You can't say they will win or lose if they don't play. Covina is making a name for themselves. Technically if Covina was playing bishop that night, they may have won. Who knows. Kids are amazing, they can play above and beyond there ability when called for. Thats if some one in their camp does not mess their thinking up. There is a mental aspect of sports. Many times teams are beat before they get off the bus... OHH we can play with Bishop or LB Poly... They are too big, too fast, too good, they 22 guys with D one offers or they have legendary Coach "Ed Henry" He is 110-0. That's Crap peoples. How can you win thinking like that. Sometimes just believing, is half the battle, and sometimes you began to put doubt into the Oppenents head, when you challenge them. With 4 minutes left, Covina could have packed it in, no one in that stadium believe they would come back, but they believed that they still could come back. Hats off to coach for selling them that.If West Co thought that, they would have finished the game. All the time you hear.."This team would not win a game in that league or that team would not win a game in this division". Or "They can't play against the big boys". I've heard it all, and seen many teams go down. That works in speculating things, but until two teams strap it up and go for it under lights, you will never know. Somethings can be said about common opponents and how teams play against them. But still every Friday night is a different Friday night. Its about who is the best on that night. I say give teams props for a game won. Don't make excuse or try to justify anything. Just lick your wounds and get ready for next week.

Reasons: you heard? That is the best you can do is "you heard" ? Did you hear it down at the beauty parlor? Cause that is were "he said, she said" stuff goes down. The truth is that West Covina wore down due to the tempo of the game, a tempo that Covina plays at. You could see this tempo taking its toll early in the second half when WC players started to cramp up and bend over looking tired.

Second thing this is not baseball or basketball you don't play teams multiple times during a season, this is football you get one shoot (unless you play in the playoffs) and the Colts came out on top. So who cares who would win how many out of 10, cause the reality is that Covina won the only one that matters and that was played last friday.

Alright I'm back to the computer after this long weekend. First off the Glendora game is behind us and Gardena is our priority for this Friday. The kids are excited to break in the new field, hopefully this week we will not commit the turnovers that we had week 0. I'm excited about the Dominguez Amat game and the Glendora Monrovia game. I think Amat still pulls out the victory with the defense being the heroes of the night. Monrovia is interesting becuase they have burners all over the field; I think that they have enough fire power to come out victorious and surprise the Tartans. As far as SHills We still have not seen them play this year so I dont know how anyone can make an assumption of how SHills stacks up against CO.

Charter Oak is going to struggle with South Hills. Heres why...

Glendora did not have a great running back. South Hills does have one of the best RB's in the Valley. South Hills has a good QB. He may not be as good as Jefferies, but he is good. South hills lacks the wr since canada is out but Glendora beat CO without throwing. Plus South Hills is bigger and more athletic. I'd Say South hills will win that game.

Venice will destroy W.C. This is a quality team with Quality players and their RB, well good luck W.C. defense. This not Covina and the story book come from behind. This Venice team is going to start strong and finish strong. 38-7 Venice Win.

The only thing the CO-GHS game proves is CO wouldn't have gone undefeated in the new league if the Tartans were still in the SL.

Now CO has to match up with Chino Hills who might be able to better nuetralize the big WRs. Still Chino Hills will be tough for anyone in the SL this year.

Of great interest is SH and how they'll match up to CO. Anyone have an opinion on the Huskies and the Chargers?

Fred, my guess is that the football advisory committee has not met to change the rankings. Generally, the committee sets up preseason rankings based on how schools finished last year. They then set a date as to when the rankings will start and be updated. You see how crazy college football is with early season rankings. Maybe the football advisory committee has decided to let things settle out for a week or two and then update from week to week. It is no surprise to me that there were little or no change after zero week, after all it is zero week.

I am not surprised by the rankings. Bonita needs to win this week to crack the top ten. Sure they beat SD, but SD is horrible. Bonita showed some stuff, but against arguably one of the worst teams in the SGV. Yes, SD looked that bad. Bonita showed they can win, but what they didn't show was that they can sustain drives. They had some big plays, but they need to be more consistent. C. Horine is a stud and he should be under center. Spathias is average at best. He has an average arm that prevents him from throwing longer than 20 yds. Bonita had a number of players that stood out, Gelalich, Brungard and younger Horine. They have some players and will be tested by Claremont. One last thing. Hey KH! Your boy is listed as 5'11" come on, he is lucky if he is 5'9".

Hey reasons- you weren't there at the WC game so you ought to shut the ol' piehole.

What was that final score again? 27-21

First half was all WC but Colts defense held up enough to keep the game in reach by recovering turnovers. Third quarter was a draw with special teams and offense contributing for Covina for 8 points. Fourth quarter WC was tired out. 3 TDs in 4 minutes thanks to an onside kick and a pick that was returned by the Colts for a TD. THen the D held on for over 2 minutes until another pick sealed the deal.

At least some of the other blogposters were making excuses. You, on the other hand, need to stop taking laxatives!!!

If we are hearing all the moaning and groaning by the CO fans now can you imagine when league starts. I never in my mind thought CO fans would come out like this over a loss.Making excuse after excuse for a loss and with the preleague schedule they will play someone might want to open a towel concession for all the crying going on in Covina . And to think they were calling Covina Bl. the Boulevard of champions. You better hope they don't beat themselves right out of a playoff berth this year as you like to say about your losses.

Losing 35-10 is a whole lot different than losing 28-21. I'm not a CO fan, but I thought about what you said Dan and I didn't remember WC giving them a good game, so I checked the scores. Two games that don't even compare. WC did lose the game against Covina themselves though, I was their the whole game and I was very disapointed with ur QB and ur coaching staff. Some very bad decisions.

CO fans, a while back you didn't want to hear it when I suggested it would have been a much different game last season with West Covina if WC didn't have the 4 fumbles that they had, now you need to apply the same principles that you suggested to me, take the loss and move on, scoreboard baby, give credit to Glendora, they were better than you on Friday night, just like Covina was against us.

Last year Charter Oak had a great defense. Lets take a closer look at that. This is who they lost...To compare the defense we saw last week to last years CO Defense is being foolish. They lose the Monrovia kids, and they lose the opener umm But there is no correlation in drop when it comes to CO...They could put 11 freshman out there and still have the best defense in the valley. That defense was as average as it gets. Now that Monrovia has a coach who will keep his kids there, you will see much improved defense and you will continue to see CO Regress.

Yes Glendora struggled, but it came against against Charter Oak, not Monrovia. When two great programs meet, it usually is a struggle, was a struggle for both teams that Glendora won. Are you telling me Monrovia's defense is going to give Glendora's offense as many fits as Chater Oak, the team that shutout the entire Miramonte league last year? Don't think so

Glendora was winning 28-14 late in the game.. They were also breaking in a number of newly minted Varsity starters.. To say that CO beat themselves and they are going to get better is fairly ignorant considering Glendora is in the same boat, looking to make their own improvements and get better as well.. I seem to recall Glendora having CO beat the last time they played, with seniors Jake Vega, Mikey Niles, Rob Horn, etc... A trick play late gave CO the narrow win in a game the Tartans maintained control throughout.. When Glendora fans came on to complain, the typical CO line was "Scoreboard." Well, lets not be hypocrites CO.. I know you guys haven't been used to losing, considering you used to play the weakest teams around, but handle the loss with some dignity.. The excuses are pretty laughable.. When Jordan Edmond and Garrett Crook ran all over CO and won, the 2nd to last meeting, it was excuses again... Lets look at it this way.. Glendora, in the last 3 meetings with CO, are 2-1... If CO can prove themselves in the Sierra, despite the top dog in the Sierra the past 3 years having moved to the Baseline, then maybe they'll get some respect.. Maybe.

I was at the Glendora vs Charter Oak game. Glendora did not show a high powered Offense or Defense. The Glendora did not make any mistakes(which plays a big part of winning games). Glendora capitalized on CO turnovers, scoring on short field opportunities. Rufuse muffed a punt return on the 20. Santiago, threw a interception, there were a few fumbles. All this happened on the Charter oak side of the field. 21 of 28 GHS points came off of Turnovers. Charter Oak, moved the ball, but was to passive in their offensive game plan. They had too many full back dives. They should have fed Scoby and play actioned off of that. They did not put any pressure on the weak secondary of Glendora. With all wrs are over 6'3 and a 6'6 TE, they should have threw some balls down field all game, like they did in the fourth quarter. Instead they kept throwing short passes. Big WRs are actually easier to tackle than your shorter shifty WR. Glendora only missed one tackle on those short routes, and rufus scored. Charter Oak played down to Glendora's level and payed the price. But you still have to give the two time CIF champs the benefit of the doubt. That's why you did not see a drop in the polls. The mistakes CO made can be corrected. They should pull it together. For the same reasons, you did not see Glendora rise in the polls. They did what every decent and well coach high school team should do of 5 turnovers deep in the other teams territory....PUNCH IT IN!!! Glendora is going to have to win more games before they move up. They are in a tough division, and they still are not better than any of the teams ranked ahead of they. They are not better than CO even though the beat them. Sorry GHS...I was not impressed at all.

Glendora is going to see much more offensive pressure, when Nick Bueno and Monrovia come to town. Jefferies will have to face a Top Dline prospect in Ellis McCarthy. If there are no turn overs, then Glendora will be forced to open up there playbook and score some points. I predict Monrovia will nip Glendora. They are riding high and confident, but the cats are a quicker shifty team, and they have some young talent as good kurt Scooby, from the same youth team....so tune in folks.

You will see the Southeast and Mid-Valley Divisions go back and forth a whole bunch this year. The Inland and PAC-5 Divisions are not going to change too much, because they already have the best teams up there. I think Glendora needs alittle more respect at this point, as well as Covina. All of this divisions are playing some very good teams for the first few weeks.

How good is Glendora ? Well see how they handle Monrovia this week.

How good is Charter Oak ? Will they rebound this week.

How good is Bishop Amat ? Will they have a tough time with Dominguez or blow right past them ?

How good is West Covina ? Or are they playing some really good teams to get them ready for league and playoffs.

Santa Fe has not played a game yet, but will have there hands full with Warren. We shall see just how strong the Southeast is this year if Santa Fe walks away with a win.

California and Rowland this week will be a big battle too.

La Mirada and Norwalk an Bonita will be in the mix as well for the Southeast. There playing some very good teams right now.

Burbank has another tough game this week with Chaminade. Should be a good game to watch.

Will Muir smash Saugus this week ? May setup a show down for week Four with the winner having the inside track with winning the Pacific league.

Alot will be told after Friday night, should be alot of fun to see what happens !!!!!

Ok do you think if Glendora beats Monrovia and charter oak beats Gardena Glendora will be ranked higher than charter oak because Monrovia is ranked number 1 in mid-valley and Gardena is not ranked in anything?

FYI: Pomona and Ayala home games were moved from Friday to Thursday because of the referee shortage. Are there any other games that have been moved for the same reasons?

Yes Covina won, but from what I have heard they were getting thumped for the entire game except the last 4 minutes!! They had alot of luck at the end of the game and that is the reason why they were victorious. If they played WC 10 games they would win 1 and this happened to be the one. It does not mean they are a great team, it just means they played well for 4 minutes.

On another note I am predicting that San Dimas does not make the playoffs this season. Mark my word!!
