Interesting how strength of schedule plays out in divisional pairings in other sports. Soccer, for instance. Know it's months away before either boys or girls start playing, but CIF has determined most of our SGV schools will be in Divisions III (girls) or IV (boys), excepting smaller school powers Mt. View and Sierra Vista. Del Rey (Bishop Amat) and the new Hacienda (Los Altos, Bonita, and Walnut) girls have been bumped up from IV to III along with St. Lucys and Flintridge and the Sierra League schools. Since Division III still includes the three very powerful Upper Desert Leagues, strong Orange Country programs, and Coastal Counties muscle. Division III should be epic from opening pre-league goal to title game.

West Covina is in a wimpy league. They may win league but hopefully they CHOKE in playoffs.

Brad Johnson was the QB for Tampa Bay when the beat the Raiders. Trent Dilfer was the QB for the Ravens when they won the SB. Dilfer won only one SB and was the only QB released the following year.

I third the motion on Mayfair, they could be the sleeper of the division, 24 to 14 vs the Lakewood of today is playing a pretty good game, plus they had the tight games with Los Al, and C Hills. Bonita is hard to figure, saw them against Santa Fe and was suprised how they struggled in that game, but on the other hand, missing two of your best players will affect any team that isn't two or three deep at every position. Also their blowout wins over San Dimas [who played Rancho C. tough] and Claremont [Who just beat Rowland and rolled over Walnut] gives a clue that they can be pretty explosive when they have all their players.

Please get your facts corret. Trent Dilfer won only 1 super Bowl not three as you have written.And he was not the backup but was the starting QB for the Ravens in Super Bowl 35.

I agree that the baseline and Sierra leagues make the inland division better, however, I don't think either league will send a team to the semi-finals let alone finals....not quite there yet. This division change sucks because i think we could have been a favorite to win the central division title this year. I have seen REV, they seem very solid especially defensively. We have ben playing very good defense but our offense is a little behind. We have been bitten by the injury bug. We are getting back to strength though.

I disagree with Rowland being in the top 5. If you want to talk about strength of schedule, Mayfair has eveyone in that division beat - Los Alamitos, Chino Hills & Lakewood......they were very competetive in all 3 of those game. I have seen Rowland, they pale in comparison.

Being a Bohi watcher this season I'am still not entirely convinced they are that good. They should have lost to a so-so Santa Fe team and a bounce the other way and the San Dimas and Claremont games could have gone the other way. One thought on Spathias. He is oft described when backing up Pendleton as adequate. I recall the pundits saying the same thing of Trent Dilfer when he filled in and he won only 3 Superbowls. Spathias deserves far more than saying he has been adequate. My observations so far from the cheap seats are as follows. Getting A grades are Mikity,Harriman,Spathias,McKenzie, Horines. B grades are guys that have played well but not consistent. Huth, Lemons, Venegas,Gelalich, all the running backs. A+ goes to the place-kicker and to the defensive coaches. Just one watchers opinion.

Fred I would have to agree with you, about certain teams being higher in there polls. I can't say alot about the Mid Valley nor the Inland Division because I don't get to watch alot of those teams play.

Pac 5 Division is murders row, how many of those teams are ranked in the state this year?. I think Bishop Amat will stay where there at for awhile, but they also play in a tough league as well. Only time will tell.

As far as the Southeast goes,I would say it's a toss up.Alot of good teams stepped up and played better talented teams during non league games. Another wait and see.

If I was listing teams for the Southeast at this time, this is how it would look.

1.West Covina
2.Bonita and they get GP back soon.
3.Rowland
4.La Serna Big games coming up in league
5.Burbank Big game against Muir
6.Muir Will they have a healthy team?
7.Norwalk tough schedule will climb the poll.
8.La Mirada another tough schedule.
9.Diamond Ranch
10.Santa Fe

Teams to watch for :
Mayfair
Burroughs
Diamond Bar
El Rancho
Walnut
Arcadia

The reason that some polls appear to use strength of schedule where other do not is because each playoff group is put together by different people.

Some coaches value record, feeing simply winning games is more important that who a team plays.

Remember, strength of schedule is still subjective. In the end, CIF seedings will be done according to strict guidelines.

That being said, there will be some great league matchups this season.

I wouldn't blame the sgv poll on ghs not being in the top ten Inland poll. It is clear from the poll they think ghs is the 3rd best team in the Baseline. They belive the Sierra number 1 is better than third baseline.This is fair logic. However I don't bleive ghs is third best in the Baseline nor am I sold Ayala is top dog in Sierra.

Just a comment about the Southeast Division. It doesn't matter if a league finishes ranked 1-5 in the over all poles, only 3 teams will go to the playoffs, no matter what! Strength of schedule wil only matter when it comes doen to playoff pairings! The toughest league will also get the # 1 seed. That's another spot where it might matter.

There are 5 Hacienda teams listed but no way is DB or DR as good as Mayfair or even La Mirada from the suburban league.. I also think Rowland is over rated. West co. & Bonita are the only Hacienda teams deserving of their place in the top 10. Rowland is a 7th ranked team at best.

I don't agree with the inland division rankings. Corona Centenniel is by far the best team followed by Norco. Vista Murrietta was 16 seconds from losing to Corona Santiago who is a solid, playoff calibre team but they are no Centenniel. I agree with your remarks on Ayala....They have played horrible teams. Glendora, Charter Oak and even 1-2 Santiago (lost to pac 5 Dana hills & #1 vista murrietta) have at least played decent competition. Time will show Ayala's true ranking. CHHS has a big game against REV this week.....hope the Huskies can hang with them. I don't think the baseline or sierra teams will make it to the semis this year....but you never know.
Also, Lakewood Mayfair will be a force in the southeast division. They are 1-3 but have lost to Chino Hills (28-14), Los Alamitos (34-19) and Lakewood (24-14). They are WAYYYY better than the teams ranked 4-10 in that division.
