Glendora senior Lauren Justus competed in the individual event in a field that included Rancho Bernardo standout Molly Grabill, who’s never lost a varsity race. Grabill, as expected, won in 17:07. Justus, however, was impressive in finishing sixth in a personal-best 17:53. She nearly collapsed at the finish line. “My previous PR was an 18:06. It was so hard but I wanted it,” Justus said. “We had a (Baseline) league meet Wednesday, so I was a little fatigued.”

Arcadia’s Catrina McAlister started strong in the team sweepstakes and was second behind Simi Valley freshman Sarah Baxter (first, 16:41) at the halfway point before finishing 12th in 17:48.

West Covina’s Kevin Gomez (13th, 16:16) and Julian Lopez (20th, 16:33) finished in the top 20 of the Division 1 red race.

Diamond Bar also boasted two athletes in the Division 1 blue race’s top 20. James McCreary was fifth (16:01) and Nico Jauregui was 17th (16:38).

Charter Oak’s William Knoth finished ninth (16:28) in the Division 2 red race, Rowland’s Nick Rivera was 12th (15:24) in the Division 2 yellow race and Walnut’s Chris Dobson took 18th (16:23) in the Division 1 green race.

Baldwin Park’s Miriam Jimenez was 15th (19:22) in the Division 2 girls blue race and West Covina’s Lovella Perea took 19th (19:58) in the Division 1 red race.
