Super 35: Cats and Dogs to settle Southeast No. 1; Covina leaps to No. 6; Glendora falls out top 10

1. Bishop Amat (8-0) – The trap game is no longer at Loyola, it’s at home against Notre Dame. For the love of Kiefer, the Lancers can’t go undefeated at home for three years and lose this one before the big showdown at Alemany in two weeks can they?
2. West Covina (6-1) – The Bulldogs haven’t had to prove anything since sweeping Venice, Glendora, South Hills and Rowland. Looking back, those teams are struggling now. Guess what, Bonita ain’t struggling.
3. Bonita (7-0) – They do everything undefeated teams are supposed to do, play with passion, play defense, believe when their superstars are sitting on the sidelines with injures. That’s the M.O., for championships, and another reason I’m picking them against West Covina on Friday.
4. Claremont (6-1) — After beating Chino Hills and Charter Oak, might as well give them the Sierra League trophy. This is an extremely dangerous team. If they get their running game going, nobody is having a better year than their quarterback Dan Kessler. Plus, defensively, they hold their own.
5. Chino Hills (5-2) — Quietly and confidently the Huskies claw their way back, destroying Damien after losing the Sierra opener to Claremont. When Chino Hills and Charter Oak meet, that’s for second, not first.
6. Covina (7-1) — The Colts deserve a bump in the poll after taking care of Baldwin Park, showing their first-season win over West Covina was no fluke. If they don’t win the Mid-Valley this year, they have enough underclassmen to be the favorite next year.
7. Azusa (7-0) — The Aztecs are good and we know they’re good, but until they compete against the upper-echelon teams in the division, we won’t know how good until the playoffs arrive.
8. Charter Oak (4-3) – Even Chargers fans have to admit it’s tiring losing the “must games.” The Chargers are talented enough to be 7-0 or at the very least 6-1, but they’re 0-3 in the toss-up games against Glendora, Rancho Cucamonga and Claremont.
9. Diamond Ranch (4-3) — I can hear Diamond Ranch fans screaming at me for not paying attention to their four-game win streak, for not acknowledging they’re in the race for the Hacienda too. Be patient, we can only cover one Hacienda blockbuster at a time, your day is coming.
10. Arroyo (6-1) – Look who’s finally cracked the top ten. They should stay here for a while too, nobody else is coming within three touchdowns of them in the Mission Valley League.

    Last time Amat went 8-0? It just might be the last time BA won it all in 1995. The 2001 team (Donnie McCleskey, Mike Lange, Wesley Walker) came close going 7-1 at one point and won the Del Rey League.

    But to be sure, we need an official BA Historian…like Joe Amat!

    I guess the new phraise along with quality losses is trap game this season. This is no trap game for AMAT . We know that any team in the Serra as it was in the Del Rey and Angelus before that can rise to the occasion and knock any one team off at any time.You know we have a bye next week so why even have Alemany on their mind. The team and staff will prepare for ND with nothing else on their mind this week .It is only a trap for those of you waiting for AMAT to lose this one . IT’S NOT GOING TO HAPPEN. The Men in Blue will be ready as they know this game is just as important as any other league game end in win is a must to continue on the road towards the prize. Fred you doubted AMAT last week on the road and they will show you again this week .

    This is Amats most important game as of right now. As long as they win this one they are guaranteed a playoff spot, being that Crespi and Loyola have already lost two games. beating Alameny would be nice or going 10-0. but all that matters right now is to win this game this week. A lose to Alameny would not be the end all if Amat wins this week. It would bring alot of trash talkers out but Amat can handle that. if Amat doesent win a ring this year there will be plenty of trash talking. For Amat the bigger prize is whats important. But don’t think for a second that if Alameny and Amat are both 9-0 when they meet, it will be a huge game. Still first things first, secure a playoff spot then worry about winning league.

    Wow Fred, shouldnt those BALOONS be for COVINA??? I mean you heard the public outcry and gave them what they wanted, Covina over AZUSA in the SGV TRIBUNES POLL. To tell you the truth, Im kind of glad you made the change, so I can stop hearing all the moaning and groaning about AZUSA, being ranked so high. Matter of fact you should have placed AZUSA right in front of La Puente. Reason being, AZUSA has beaten most of those teams listed lower then LP.

    So Fred, the teams you have listed underneath AZUSA in your poll, well will never know if they could win them, because theyre in completely in different leagues and Divisions. With the exceptions of the teams that are running in the Mid Valley. So this constant XFACTOR will always loom over the blog is why AZUSA is ranked so high. So Fred, I mean when the season first started, you were here hyping us up, BUT NOW youre on stating AZUSA has played NOBODY! Come on quit using AZUSA, as your personal PINTA to have these bloggers come on here banging away at it!!!

    What AZUSA has accomplished to this point of the season, is something rarely done in the Montview League. Okay AZUSA lost pretty bad last year to Bell Gardens, struggle with Ontario Christian and barely pulled it off in the last minute, then had a rough time with Gaberlino. Now mind you these schools are contracted to play each other for two years.

    What does AZUSA do this year, but go to Bell Gardens house and put up 48 points in their home stadium! Well you know the rest of story to this point!!! I have yet to see one blogger from BG, OC say anything because they all vanished. Oh yes, maybe we should have play West Covina so we could here Fred state, BUT THEY BEAT WEST COVINA! Maybe we would have kept our place in FREDS BIG 35 POLL!

    Azusa is a good team but they’re not that good. If LP would have just kept doing what they’re doing in the first quarter they could have upseted. But nope too many turnovers and to a team like azusa you cant do that. You cant turn the ball over to good teams. I say Azusa should be 12-16 before BP. But i think covina is a better team. Just because azusa beat them last year doesnt mean anything a new year different team. A better team. I wouldnt be surprised if covina takes it. But azusa should represent the montview and go deep into the playoffs. And show everyone the montview league is no pushover. Go Azusa and La Puente represent well!!

    Last year Covina and Wilson both started with many sophomores, now they are juniors

    Covina ended the 2009 season with a Calpreps rating of -3.5 Wilson had a -4.7

    Covina beat Wilson last year 21-17 in a very close and competitive game – and in fact Wilson scored a TD late in the 4th with the go ahead lead but was called back because of an away from the ball penalty

    this year Covina has a 7-1 record 20.9 rating and has beaten WCo and BPark // Wilson has a 4.6 rating and is 4-3 with a close win against El Monte (El Monte actually lost the game the Cats didnt win it) and they were beaten by Northview

    Why the disparity??
    What is so different this year than last??
    Why is Covina much better and Wilson only marginally better??

    Why all the “NEED” to hate on Azusa Football? Just because they have one Super Fan who will defend his team Tooth and Nail? Last I checked they were in the SGV and their record is pretty impressive. Celebrate it! We have some good football going on right now. Bonita HS is a good example too. I really don’t understand why some people get their kicks off ripping on High School Kids who are enjoying the time of their life years and winning at football? Sure there will be rivalries but it should be school spirit stuff not mean hearted kid/player/coach bashing, right? Some of you clowns really don’t get it. Keep running it Azusa, Bonita, W. Covina, Covina and of course my Lancers! There is some really good football goin on in the SGValley and it’s a shame that some of you are really missing the boat (and more importantly…the point of High School sports)! Go Big Blue!

    Nicely said. You know I kind of stayed off of the blogs for a while because of the embarrassment I felt listening to all of the negativity and crying done by my fellow Hacienda Heights community. I think you are exactly right. When someone goes and exploits all of their problems and frustrations to the public, it becomes redundant and boring.

    I wish people had some class when coming onto these blogs. However, I have come to find out that when people aren’t happy with their lives, they just aren’t happy with their lives.

    I would like to say that there are LA parents who, although frustrated, are trying to get through the season with a positive feeling…for the sake of our children. Go Conquerors! Thanks again for the diagnosis. :)

    To be honest, I don’t think arroyo is that great. I went to the game last Friday, and I wasn’t impressed at all. They’re ranked too high in cif and if anything, West Covina deserves a higher spot. Arroyo will see an early exit during the playoff’s, their weak schedule and weak league prepares them for nothing!

Well the picture of that player is my boy, Steven A.#47, explayer from AZUSA and had a great game on Saturday. Citrus football is having a very rough season.

    The high school season is getting very intresting and BA,DR,AZ and Covina is getting real intresting! Bishop Amat is winning the BIG BOYS SCHOOLS! LOL…

    Say what you want about Azusa’s schedule, but there is a score on there that begs for attention, it’s the score of “Azusa 48 Bell Gardens 0″. I’m not so sure any other team in the Mid valley is capable of doing that to Bell Gardens. El Rancho couldn’t do it, Schurr couldn’t do it, Cantwell could not either. Azusa
    looks every bit as qualified to take that division as any other team in the Mid Valley.

    Azusa, is having a great year. In order to be classified as a great team this year, they are going to have to beat someone real. They are going to have to wait until playoffs to have a signature win. That could be dangerous. Virtually every team in the Secound round will be good enough to beat anyone.
    The win against bell gardens was legit. It does not matter if any other team in the mid valley can shut out bell gardens. Other teams in the mid valley have played and/or beaten upper division schools, who are better than Bell gardens. With the almont edition to the division Bell gardens will be a tough draw, and with schurr in mix, it will be interesting…Also With a possible 3 way tie in the Valle Vista or even if Covina wins outright, BP is second place and San Dimas gets in the playoffs as a at large bid. That means SD would be a low seed in the playoffs, and will play a top team in the first. Last season the Montview#1 Azusa played the Valley Vista #3 Covina..if CIF does this again. San Dimas plays Azusa in first round. But since Azusa is#1 overall this shouldn’t happen. But Ive seen stranger things. Monrovia has already played SD, Covina has too…Arroyo or Azusa may get screwed.Cif may want to punish them for weak preseason schedules and or weak league competition. I am not sure how things will match up, but this is just a mock secound round to display how hard the Midvalley is going to be…So All teams better strap it up.

    Possible Second round matchups

    1.Azusa(league Champ) vs 6.San Dimas (loss to Covina may match up agianst Azusa or Arroyo in 1st round)
    2.Monrovia(league Champ) vs 11.Baldwin Park(appearence depends on league Standing and 1st rd draw)
    3.Arroyo(league Champ) vs 9.Schurr(league Champ)or Valley Christian(depends on 1st rd Draw)
    4.Whittier Christian(league Champ) vs 5.Covina(league Champ)

    The CIF rankings can sometime be bias..Covina is top 3 for sure…
    Fred in you top ten that Azusa-Covina ranking can go either way…
    on one hand Covina has beaten West Co and BP and are in the driver seat for the Valle Vista. On the other hand if they lose to San Dimas, then Azusa gets the nod in your final rankings. Azusa is great, they just don’t have a game that matter left on their schedule. Plus they have 5-6 teams in their league ranked below the top 25. They just can’t jump anyone at this point, unless covina losses.

    I’m on board with you AZTEC. Your boys have met every challenge that has been put infront of them and they still haven’t lost. No one can argue that fact. I know there are at least 35 teams that would give their left n… to be 8-0 right now. How many of us can say that we have ever been part of a team that went undefeated? The answer is about 98% of us who are former athletes or coaches can’t say that. So tell your boys to keep making the city of Azusa proud of their team.

Well…You know what happens when you drink too much Kool aid…you get that sugar rush, then you crash…Undefeated is 14-0.That means a Midvalley title. Are you betting that Azusa, will win the title? I don’t know if I would drink that Kool Aid. But hey time will tell, This is best team in Azusa history by far. Good luck!

    Dude Kool Aide is better for that Haterade. Dude take a look at the big picture. When those kids look back in 20 years do you think they are going to say Yea we were undefeated but we didn’t play anyone for 10 weeks. Why not let Azusa enjoy their season. How man of us can say that our team was undefeated in high school? Would they beat the teams ranked above them? I don’t know. But how cool would it be for them to go 14-0 and win a CIF Championship?

    why do people call it hating when someone states something true? I see people on here saying that Azusa has not played anyone…Is it not true? Everyone knows its true, so its not hating. Azusa knows that its true, but they can use that as fuel and motivation to show the sgv that is not hype. Lots of people can say they went 10-0, or 13-1 if you are holding the trophy on dec 12th…that’s what counts…everything else is a “we could have”. I know this, I almost won it all…
