Glendora High School fielded one of the top boys cross country teams in the CIF-Southern Section last season. The Tartans girls team is making its own name for itself this season, and showed its ability with a solid effort at the Mt. San Antonio College Invitational on Saturday. Glendora, featuring reigning all-area Girls Runner of the Year Lauren Justus, set a school course record, finishing 13th in the individual sweepstakes with a time of 97 minutes, 22 seconds.

Justus led the way, finishing sixth with a personal course-record time of 17:53, but the Tartans also had five girls finish among the top 80, including three freshmen - Tori Whitworth (19:32), who was 49th; Emily Hoey (19:47), who was 61st, and Chloe Arriaga (20:08), who was 74th. Senior Allison Mayo (20:02) was 70th.

"We're obviously very excited by how they ran," Glendora assistant coach Bob Ramsey said. "They were a little tired from a (Baseline) league meet on Wednesday, but it wasn't unexpected.

"We knew they had the talent, and with the work they put in, you could see it coming. We were very pleased how they performed."

Justus enjoyed a solid week, which also saw her break the course record at Red Hill Park in Rancho Cucamonga by 20 seconds with a time of 17:51 to lead the Tartans to a second-place finish during a Baseline League cluster meet Wednesday.

It will take more team efforts, however, to get Glendora to the CIF State championships, which the Tartans are expected to make a run at during the upcoming CIF-SS prelims and finals.
