Former Amat star Jackson to speak in Pasadena

John Jackson knows a thing or two about tradition.
He attended and played for arguably two of the more-storied institutions in football - Bishop Amat on the high school level, and USC on the collegiate level.
The All-CIF-Southern Section and All-Pac-10 player will reflect on his background on Friday when he speaks at the Pasadena Quarterbacks Club at Brookside Country Club.
The weekly luncheon, which begins at 11:45 a.m., also will feature Alhambra High School football coach Lou Torres. The cost for lunch is $25 for members and $30 for non-members.
Jackson, who also played baseball for Bishop Amat and USC, first made a name for himself when he earned All-CIF honors in 1984 and helped the Lancers reach the second round of the CIF-SS playoffs.
The Brooklyn, N.Y. native, who grew up in Diamond Bar, was All-Pac-10 at receiver in 1989 and lettered all four years for the Trojans. When he left after the 1989 season, he was the school's all-time leader with 163 receptions for 2,379 yards and 17 touchdowns. He's now eighth.
Jackson, whose 14 catches against Notre Dame in 1989 are the most by a visiting receiver in Notre Dame Stadium, spent three seasons in the NFL with the Arizona Cardinals and Chicago Bears, before moving on to the broadcasting industry. Jackson is the sideline reporter for USC games on ESPN Radio 710 and an analyst for FSN Prime Ticket's high school game of the week.

I was reading something else about this on another blog. Interesting. Your position on it is diametrically contradicted to what I read in the first place. I am still contemplating over the various points of view, but I'm inclined heavily toward yours. And irrespective, that's what is so superb about advanced democracy and the marketplace of thoughts online.
Does anyone remember when Monrovia High taught Amat a lesson in '82? Tanner had a GREAT game as a Sophmore! He replaced Pernell Taylor at RB! The 'Cats wer just too much for the Lancers that year!
My best memory of JJ was his freshman year when his dad was the OC at USC and he came to practice with a legit USC helmet without the trojan logo and they painted it blue. I am pretty sure they let him use it freshman year.

Randy Tanner played all three sports and started on the varsity since sophmore year.started as a freshman on the baseball team.he was such a good basketball player and could of played basketball in college if he wanted to.he chose football and baseball at USc

So your point Joe is Rio can play both sports at Amat and handle it just fine right. I bet Rio could play some basketball at the HS varsity level as well. Not being sarcastic I mean it Rio is a athlete.
While not talked about a lot - JJ was also the starting point guard his senior year on the Lancer basketball team.
Doing that in between football and baseball certainly didn't effect his performance in either of those sports

eric bienemy was a sophmore starting running back that 84 season with john jackson.it was a rebuilding year because they had lost many great seniors and Randy Tanner of course. the defensive backfield from the the 83 team also graduated 3 players who got football scholarships.Tim taylor,Tim Garcia and MikeFisher
CLASS ACT. Will he be sending the little guy to Amat as well?
As a junior he was also part of the Amat Big Five finalist team headed by Randy Tanner. We lost to Servite a team that we had beat in league.
He was also a big part of the win over Edison in the first round which was considered an upset as Amat was a 2nd or 3rd place team fromt he old Angelus.
