La Puente waited a year for redemption. Instead, it was just another heartache for the Warriors.
Hope Searcy had 15 kills and Kaylene Burkhart had 13, and California City ousted Montview League champion La Puente with a 25-20, 17-25, 25-15, 29-27 victory over the Warriors in a CIF-Southern Section Division 4A first- round match Tuesday.
The visiting Ravens, who had to withstand an 8-0 blitz by La Puente in the fourth game, improved to 15-11 and will face either Santa Clara or Milken Community in the second round Thursday.
The Warriors, getting 14 kills from Elisa Valenzuela and 11 from Rocio Armendariz, finished 17-7. They lost in the second round for the second consecutive season.
“It’s very disappointing for our seniors,” said La Puente coach Daniel Krawiec, whose Warriors were ranked No. 6 in the final Division 4A poll.
“We were looking to go pretty far this year, but like I talked to them before, ‘It’s mental. Can you hang in there?’ ”

Shocking…another photo of St. Lucy’s… If my sources are correct, and they are, Chino Hills won league as well, so shouldn’t there be an equal amount of publicity? Just saying, Chino Hills beat St. Lucy’s in the first round of League in three, and the photo for that week showed a shoe. As fascinating as shoes are, it would be much aprreciated to give the well-deserving Huskies a little photo time. Again, I guess the title and the reward of a season well played is really good enough, but it would just be nice to see the east end of the Sierra League get a little bit of recognition. Hopefully this will be a little more balanced in CIF. Good luck to all Sierra League participants competing in CIF.

  • just sayin’

CHfan – give it a rest. You got the Headline – they got the Pic. You get some pub in the Daily Bulletin – which doesn’t give Lucy’s as much coverage. So in the long run – you get more than they do

  • GHigh

CHFan? This is the first year you have been included in the SGV rankings and blog so be thankful. You are not in their circulation-do you have a subscription to the Tribune because I don’t think they deliver in your neighborhood?

On a more positive note, Ganesha is happy to barely make it to CIF for the fourth year in a row. Hopefully in the near future we can start making some noise in Div. 4A.

Good luck to all area teams in CIF. We could have a couple of championships this year, or more.

  • Quit Whinning

CH receives the benefit of the coin toss and get top seed, even though SL’s is ranked higher in CIF, and you want to complain about not getting a picture? SL’s didn’t get bold faced print in the CIF pairings in the Daily Bulletin. Where is the fareness in journalism today?

  • the critic

This is the week we all been waiting for well at least i know us warriors been waiting for this week for a whole year now and we cant wait to whoop on the Amat Lancers………………………MY PREDITION 38-17 ALEMANY…..I WILL POST THIS ON EVERY BLOG SO EVERYONE WILL SEE……..

  • Positivity….

Really…everyone. CH has fought hard to be at the top/or tied. However you look at it. Week after week…we see St. Lucy’s. Also an awesome team. It’s not whining, it’s a fact, CH does seem to be overshadowed in the blog. That said…

Let’s all go into CIF praying for health and sportsmanship. We are all thankful to be a part of this next, and to SUPPORT the girls. All of them. They work hard, and it’s not so easy being a teen these days.

    Go CH Huskies!

  • CHHusky

Hey all, this is an exciting moment for the Husky Program! That’s all. We have gone from a team who has never placed higher than 5th to a contender in 1 year. That is fun to be apart of. I’d love for it to be an all sgv playoff, because all our kids are underated in this sport. A coin flip was the difference with StLucys which is about how close that match up is. Their seed looks pretty good, I don’t think you’ll hear them complain, we’d love to make it through our tough side and play it off in the finals!
Good luck to all the sgv teams, its been a great year for the Huskies!

  • SL Regent Fan

First: I want to say Welcome Back GHigh. Its been awhile and we are glad to hear you made it to CIF. Good luck to you and the GHigh Girls.

Second: Chino Hills won on a coin flip and that is the way it goes. Looked at the brackets and both teams do have a chance at meeting each other again. South Hills is the at large team but I easily see them going to the second round. Ayala has a tougher match up but good go to second round with their A game.

Third: San Dimas and Bonita have a great chance at winning CIF in their divisions this year.

Lastly: As for publicity, the picture of Jackie Macy is a great representative not just for SL but for CIF/or Volleyball in general. She was named all CIF as a sophomore last year and has made a major comeback due to an injury that kept her out half of this season. She was one the the MVP’s at the Ayala tournament and deserves this much. CH has lots of great young players and will easily get this much publicity in the near future. Congrats Macy on being in this weeks photo.

Good luck SGV. I pray we all do well and represent are area in the best possible way.

    These are my thoughts.

    Fred you are welcome!

And for all you that disagree, its all good!

If you noticed I tried mentioning all schools in the area. GOOD LUCK TOO ALL!

    Here you go:

    Division 1A

Glendora- One and done as they play Paso Robles.

Upland – should make it to the quarters and call it a year when they play Laguna Beach

Los Osos – tough draw, they meet Saugus in Quarters. That will be a great game! If they pull it off they will have to play Corona del Mar.

Alto Loma- Had a great year but wont get passed REV

    Division 2AA

Ayala- If they bring their A game they might be able to make it to the quarters. I think they can bean La Canada.

Bishop Amat – I dont know much about Riverside Poly.

Chino Hills- picked up a great draw. Should cruise to the Semi’s.

St. Josephs- Really tough draw! If they get passed Oaks Hills they will face St. Lucys. I would say they will go 4 maybe 5, and St. Lucys should win. Both teams play similar volleyball.

St. Lucys- they should get the quarters and battle South Torrance. If they get passed South Torrance, La Reina will be waiting for them. La Reina is one heck of a team.

South Hills – Will not make it passed the first round, La Salle is way too stacked.

Monrovia – solid team but wont beat La Reina.

    Division 2A

La Serna/Diamond Bar – They play Diamond in the first round- Diamond Bar has a chance of getting passed them. If they do they can possibly get to the Quarters and meet troy.

Los Altos- Should be able to get the quarters and meet Troy. If they do, they will meet Camarillo in the semis

Whittier Christians – Good team, but they meet los Altos 2nd round. Los Altos height might be the deal breaker.

Walnut – Should get passed the first round and meet Downey. I dont know much about Downey.

Santa Fe – They meet Arcadia in the 2nd Round. I dont think they can beat Arcadia.

La Habra- Will me Bonita in the 2nd round. Enough Said.

Bonita – They will have a tough quarters and Semi’s they didnt get the best draw. They have Arcadia, Palm Springs, and Downey.

    Division 3A

Gabrielino – I think they should get to the Semi’s, and should meet Brentwood or La Sierra. Both Brentwood and La Sierra are very talented.

El Monte/Montebello – They should both get passed the 1st round. And meet in the second. I dont think any of the two teams could beat Campbell Hall, who they should meet in the Quarters.

San Dimas – They have a chance! They should meet Campbell Hall in the Semi’s and Brentwood or La Sierra in the finals.

    Division 4AA

St. Paul – Will get to the Quarters and meet St. Margarets.

    Division 4A

La Puente – Im guessing Finals against Bell Jeff. This Division appears to be weak for La Puente.

  • SL Regent Fan

Classic. The photo went from Macy to Callen.

Vball-Good analysis on some but will add some thoughts.

Division II-AA: SL beat South Torrance in three in Vegas. La Reina is the real deal and SL would have to play their A game to be a contender.

I have a hard time with Ayala beating La Canada. Its just not going to happen. But of course we hope they do.

Monrovia has come a long way; almost taking La Canada. #5 had 46 kills against this #1 seed. The La Reina/Monrovia should be a great game.

Chino Hills did get a great draw and should cruise to the semi’s.

Div II-A: For those of us who watched Whittier Christian at the Ayala tournament, they know they will take Los Altos. Would love to cheer for LA but WC was a well rounded team with an amazing setter.

The final game should be Troy/Bonita.

As always, CIF will be a battle. Good luck SGV.

  • GHigh

Vball-you forgot about the other teams in 4A besides La Puente! I think Duarte, Azusa, and Gladstone have a good shot at advancing. Hopefully we can win tonight and head to Hemet tomorrow.
Northview may also move on in 3A.
Good Luck-I will post our score and come over to Ganesha if you want to see a game tonight!

  • vball

    I had a feeling i had missed a few.

    Regardless, I think I did a pretty good job…

  • GHigh

Vball-you always do a good job, I was just covering the holes in your coverage!

Ganesha came out on fire and played their best this year at the right time defeating Hamilton with scores of 25-16, 25-13, 25-18.
We play #1 Seed Hemet tomorrow night at 7 PM in Hemet. You never know so we are looking forward to the challenge.

    Good luck to All!

  • SL Regent Fan

Congratulations GHigh. Sounds like the girls are peaking at just the right time. Good luck against Hemet and keep us posted.

  • Azusa Aztecs!

Lady Aztecs Advance to the next round by beating Pomona Catholic.

  • SGVVBfan

    Los Altos over Burbank 25-16,23-25,25-20,25-16

  • GHigh

Ganesha lost in 3. Hard to believe anyone in our division will beat Hemet-they are for real. Good luck to everyone-time for SOCCER!

  • dbar

dont know the score but Diamond Bar beat La Serna

  • SL Regent Fan

Ayala took Bishop MOntgomery to 4, then lost. But South Hills took La Salle to 5??? That is awesome. I would love to hear the details of that game.

Does anyone know how the Bishop Amat game went. I heard they were going toe to toe with Riverside Poly?

  • sgvbl

    Walnut beat Oxnard in 4.

  • Interesting..

    @SL Regent Fan:

Bishop Amat lost in four to Riverside Poly: 25-21, 12-25, 21-25, 23-25. They were going toe to toe with Rside Poly but should have beaten them as they had leads late into the third & fourth sets.

As for South Hills vs La Salle game, it was an upset waiting to happen. SH was up two sets and a good lead in the third only to have La Salle gain confident and beat them. Give it to SH coach for having a good game plan against La Salle.

Congrats to all who made it into the playoffs and best wishes to all who are moving on!!

  • Hacienda League

Looks like all four teams are advancing to the 2nd round in Div. 2A from the Hacienda League

    Bonita (Had a bye)
    Los Altos
    Diamond Bar

    Great Job!

  • Volleyball Fan

South Hills sounded like quite a game. I wish they could have finished. Too close.

Amat too. These were the wild cards and they almost took the top seeds down. Way to represent the SGV.

For the Sierra League, Chino Hills and St. Lucy’s has a tough go as both will be on the road. They both should prevail as long as they play their A games. Good Luck!

Hacienda is going strong. Keep representing.

  • Robert

Congratulations to all teams that advanced…….Good Luck Thursday. To those whose seasons ended more prematurely than hoped, congratulations on fine seasons. Your effort and your play proved you belonged among your respective division’s final 32. From the tremendous accomplishments at Ganesha to the battlers at Pomona Catholic, from the diehards at South Hills to the gutty ones at La Puente…………raise your chins from your chests and hold your heads high. Look to what is ahead for each of you. Every point, every play, every moment was a part of a greater learning experience.

  • Good Job Hacienda League

Wow, 4 of the 9 teams in the area still in the hunt for a CIF ring is from the Hacienda League.

    Diamond Bar Rocks!

  • AHS

is it Fairmont Prep @ Azusa or Azusa @ Fairmont Prep?
