Thursday Final: Rancho Cucamonga rallies past Glendora 42-28, San Dimas delivers playoff-making statement; Chino Hills clinches share of Sierra

The Inland Insider was at Chino Hills’ win over Ayala. Let’s hope QB Caleb Carrillo is alright. He was injured and taken away by helicopter. When we learn more, we will share it with you.

Tonight’s results
Rancho Cucamonga 42, Glendora 28 – The Tartans jumped to a 21-7 lead but couldn’t hold on, falling to the Baseline League champs to end their season.
San Dimas 49, Wilson 9 — The Saints rebounded from last week’s stinging loss to Covina. If Baldwin Park beats Northview Friday the Saints finish third, but they surely have the resume to earn one of the four Mid-Valley playoff berths.
Chino Hills 36, Ayala 8 — The Huskies wrap-up at least a share of the Sierra League title in a game that was delayed after Bulldogs quarterback Caleb Carrillo was injured. A helicopter was summoned and the game resumed later. Let’s pray he’s ok.

Planning on going to the San Dimas-Wilson game tonight. Taking my clicker-counter to get a running tally of how many fights break out after hearing that a football game broke out during the Pomona-Wilson fights…

  • The Big Fight I Mean Game

I don’t think anyone believes how many personal fouls that Wilson had called on them during that game. The low number that I heard was over 20 and the high number was over 30. Wilson had one scoring drive that was estimated at 140 to 180 yards due to penalties. The real interesting part is the players involved in the fights were kicked out and allowed to come back in latter in the game. The officials lost total control of that game.

  • FredJ

Please, can we give the Wilson stuff a rest … thank goodness it’s week 10.

  • BRAVETOWN

SO IM WATCHING OUR BRAVES JV GAME YESTERDAY, WHICH WE LOST TO A MUCH INFERIOR NORTHVIEW TEAM, WHEN LOW AND BEHOLD I SEE CRUTCHFIELD WALKING AROUND THE FIELD WEARING HIS DUARTE FOOTBALL SHIRT . AS A LONGTIME BRAVE FAN, THIS MAKES ME SICK. WAY TO GO COACH HIGGINS ARENT U ALUMNI, WHY WOULD U ALLOW YOUR COACH TO WEAR THAT AROUND YOUR ALMA MATER? YOU ARE THE HEAD COACH ARENT YOU? BUT THAN AGAIN MAYBE YOU HAVE NO CONTROL OVER YOUR COACHES. IM SURE YOUR TEAM LOVES TO SEE THEIR COACH REPRESENTING ANOTHER SCHOOL. CRUTCHFIELD SINCE YOU LIKE DUARTE SO MUCH WHY DONT U GO BACK. AND TAKE ALL YOUR KIDS ALSO, THEYRE THE ONLY ONES YOU GUYS CARE ABOUT ANYWAY.
    WAY TO REPRESENT COACH…

    GO BRAVES !!!!

  • Wildpsys

Fred cant you just pop a thread up “Wilson is horrible and their fans / errrr parents are worse”. Then all Wilson people can just blog there as free for all. What started out nice there at Wilson has got uglier week to week. Glad they are gone after tonite with no more games left and no playoff to speak of. We will get one more week of Wilson backlash after tonites loss to SD, from there it will die down. San Dimas 45 Wilson 13. The Senior players, what a way to leave and how embarrassing this has to be for you.

  • Flag Football

Zavala gave specific instructions to the players at the end of last night’s practice; “No personal fouls”. He said the administration is going to be out in full force during the game, so he wanted the players to be on their best behavior.

Too little, too late, I believe.

  • Duarte Kids

    Bravetown,
Without those Duarte kids BP wins 2 games this year. We’ll see how good they are next year when they are gone.

  • BRAVETOWN

    DUARTE KIDS,

AND WHATS WRONG WITH THAT, GET THEM OUTTA HERE..
WE WERE ONCE A PROUD SCHOOL AND COMMUNITY. NOT ANYMORE. GREAT JOB HIGGINS.

    GO BRAVES!!!!

  • Colt74

    BRAVETOWN,
“WE WERE ONCE A PROUD SCHOOL AND COMMUNITY. NOT ANYMORE…”

How can this be a coaches fault? Are you saying that your community and school is only supportive of the players if they are winning? Help me out here please. If second in league is something to be ashamed about I don’t have enough fingers and toes to count on how many teams out there over the years ( Covina included ) would love to have your season.

  • Go Braves!

Bravetown…it’s a shirt, not an endorsement…Wow, really? Upset over a shirt? Or is it just sour grapes because your son didn’t start due to the Duarte Boys coming over? For the record the Duarte Boys are GREAT kids…..on AND off the field. I recoginze good talent and good hearts no matter where they’re from…and I’ve been a Brave forever!

  • BRAVETOWN@YAHOO.COM

    GO BRAVES,
FYI, MY SON STARTED THERE A FEW YRS AGO AND WAS A ALL-LEAGUE PERFORMER. SO NO, NO SOUR GRAPES ABOUT THAT AT ALL. IF U TALK TO THE KIDS FROM B.P. U WOULD UNDERSTAND HOW BAD IT IS. HOW BAD THE DUARTE KIDS ARE FAVORED OVER THE B.P. KIDS. HOW THE DUARTE KIDS CAN MISS PRACTICE AND STILL START EVERY WEEK.

    COLT 74,

HIGGINS HAS TURNED SO MANY KIDS OFF TO THE PROGRAM.
CRUTCHFIELD HAS ALOT TO DO WITH THAT AS WELL. GOES FAR BEYOND WHAT THE RECORD INDICATES.

    GO BRAVES !!!!

Had no idea things were not rosey at BP.

Want to wish all other veterans a great day and all the best that life has to offer. Remember those today who are away from loved ones.

    Fred J,

You have defended Zavala at Wilson for some reason yet I cannot understand why.

    1. A lack of team and staff discipline through the summer and the season. Multiple fights on multiple occasions with no one from the team being suspended by Head Coach. Last year also.

    2. Forfeiture of games last year, Head Coach suspended for the first game this year and pending forfeiture of games from this year. All for recruiting violations.

    3. He is the D coordinator and gave up 44.5 point a game last year in league and is giving up 33.2 this year (40 points if you take out the Nogales game) and they haven’t even played San Dimas yet.

    4. Obviously doesn’t know how to deal with his parents and players.

If you are are just tired of hearing the Wilson people that’s fine. Myself I’ll be at Edison vs Los Alamitos tonight. This guy doesn’t deserve your defense or anyone else’s He made his own bed.

  • wow

okay braves..u guys r sounding like Wilson..Higgens is a great coach!! Ive been bye the field and while others r just standing in a group chopping it up and laughing, higgens is the only one i see actually paying attention to ALL the boys..i love the city of duarte, and lived their when my children were small. great city!! but if i lived their today..think id send my kids to school in BP too..

  • Aaron

Bonita Frosh won yesterday 49-8 posting a 10-0 season. Bonita JVs also beat the Diamond Ranch Panthers 25-0 posting an 8-2 record.

  • FredJ

saladays, what you wrote is fine, that’s a fair opinion, but some comments were getting way to personal, especially with players. Also, you can make a point, but when you make the same point over and over on the same thread, your purpose is to be hurtful. If you want to be critical, make your point and move on. I understand that by making a point you might create and back and forth with someone on the blog, but again, don’t let it become so personal that I need to delete it.

  • Bobby Bulldog

West Covina’s JV Team went 10-0. Smashing the entire Hacienda League, no game was even close.
Bonita being a casualty on their home field.

Future Varsity Team looks really promising.

  • david rivera

i have just one question, with all the fights last week at the pomona-wilson game why wasnt anything reported in the paper here. it just seems like the tribune is covering everything up at wilson. i could be wrong but its the feeling i get. and believe me there is alot more problems at wilson not even being reported that are about to hit real soon

  • saladays

    Fred J,

Fair enough I only get to check up on the blog sporadically and probably haven’t seen all the foolishness you have had to deal with.

  • bobby bulldog

yes a great jv team, however, the freshman team got killed by diamond bar 48-16. so there is talent coming up, but not for long.

  • Good Luck G-Men

To all those seniors suiting up for the last time tonight for the Glendora Tartans…thank you for 4 great years!!! This year didn’t go as planned, but you can still hold your heads up. We are the lucky ones to have been along for the ride!!! To all those seniors around the who will strap it up for the last time tonight and tomorrow, good luck. You will remember these years forever!!!

  • kh

    fred ,
is it to late too change your pick against the bearcats.bonita by 30 my friend,,,

  • @bobby bulldog

Is the Diamond Bar freshman team really that good or did West Co’s freshman team have a bad game

  • glendora

Glendora up on rancho 28-20 at half

  • Bobby Bulldog

The WC Freshmen Team had some talented players, but there was a serious disconnect between the players and the coaching staff. Very uninspired football late in the season.

Diamond Bar did have some talent, and appeared to be well-coached.

  • SaintsR4real

    Saints 49. Wilson 9. FINAL

  • Class of 2014 football

Just want to congratulate the freshmen football team from South Hills who beat Charter Oak on Wednesday 31-29. They finished 5-0 in league making them the CHAMPS……WAY TO GO HUSKIES……..CLASS OF 2014!!!!!!

  • david rivera

just another sad year to wilson football. our defense took another pounding tonight. this really sickens me to see this wilson program digress in the last few years. i thought we at least had the talent to compete in the valle vista but come on to get hammered like this every week is really just shameful

  • Really Bravetown

Are you serious! That’s a bunch of crap. Go root for San Dimas or somebody. Demetrius Jackson and Wardell Crutchfield you dont want them!

  • Pasadena Baller

This just in Burroughs Beats Burbank for another Pacific League championship. The Indians will go in as a top 4 seed because they beat Arcadia and will be the # 1 team from Pacific.

West Covina could have there hands full, with either team.

  • Go Braves

Really Bravetown: Your post made NO sense. I hope you weren’t suggesting that people don’t want Jackson and Crutchfield. They have Divison 1 schools recruiting them…so I know you couldn’t possibly mean what you said.

  • Finally

    Too little too late
Well you must be the back up qb’s dad alright. And to hear you are done means you are moving to a third school. Thank Goodness…..

  • NotSince1995

    Class of 2014 football

    Congratulations on your Freshman team…

What school will they play at next year…?

For reals homes…I saw the Amat coaches there on Wednesday…!

    No Class…!

  • MidValley

Wilson, You guys need to move to the Montview. You would have better luck there. You guys can play with Ganesha and Bassett. Valley Vista is not your cup of tea.

  • Colt74

As reported on the CBS Early Show:

Caleb Carrillo suffered a SEVERE CONCUSSION and is alright in all other aspects.

  • SO IT’S COME TO THIS

    notsincesgvworst,
So it’s now come to you knocking the freshman team . You have some nerve writing no class in your post when you are the biggest classless idiot on the blog . Get a life because you are now so hard up for attention you go to the freshman team . You truely are an IDIOT you pig .

  • RCcougars

My hats off to the Gledora Varsity. THey came to play last night and we did not. THey had us at Half, but we woke up and dominated the second half. We were missing 3 O-Line starters and boy did it show in our run game. Glendora played a very inspired game and took us to the limit.

  • This is not JAA or PW

Your freshamn teams have little to no indication on how the teams perform at the varsity level.
I have seen many good freshman teams pan out to be nothing at the varsity level.
That being said the Bonita freshaman deffinetly has some very promising young players. Bonita is on a much needed up turn after several years of being down.

  • saladays

Freshman teams have always been a good indicator for varsity success if you have a quality program. If you just recruit for the higher levels then it means nothing.

  • IE TOWN

BYE BYE GLENDORA! NEXT TIME YOU TALK EARLY IN THE SEASON ABOUT THE IE, MAKE SURE YOU CAN BACK IT UP!

AND THAT GOES FOR YOUR COACH TALKIN SMACK IN THE STORE………

  • GHS

    IE TOWN

We have 2800 students Rancho over 4000, Los Osos 3400, Upland 3800. We don’t belong in the baseline league and fought to stay out. You num-nuts campaigned to bring us here. I havn’t seen anybody braging about our team kicking but in the baseline.
Hopefully we will get a new coaching staff and I do believe we have the talent to compete in the league as you saw last night.

  • Blah Blah Blah

    IE Clown,
I thought I told you to shut your pie hole! GHS is right we were forced into the Baseline league, so you just thought you come on here again and just make ridiculous comments and be real funny huh?

  • EZ Street

    Go Braves,

You know and I know the only reason that Jackson and Crutchfield was recruited at that Div 1 school is because one of the players family member works for that school. If not, they would not be recruited by any other Div 1 school!! It’s nice to have someone in the inside to help!!

  • eye in the sky

    Glendora faithfull,
We have a core group of athletes who are second to none. Eviodent in baseball, track & basketball. My hope is that “coach P” will have some dignity and step down. A spot is needed in our faculty. So A proficient coach and staff can revamp this deflated program. Coach P should be used to packing up his goods and moving on.. It happens over and over. Please take the demented circus monkey strycula with you,our kids need and deserve better. Thanks for nothing!
    The Truth!

  • RCCougars

Hey Glendora, WAAAAAA!!!!! we do not have 4000 students we have 3100. We have 4 high schools in our city, you have 1. It will be a few years before your ready to step up and win baseline league games. Maybe next year, but we do return 16 starters next year.. Good Luck at the bottom!!!

  • Wilson Hopeful

It’s clearly obvious that as head of the defense, Zavala is not getting the job done.

As head coach of the team, Zavala shows no leadership abilities by allowing undisciplined players, and unchecked attitudes to run rampant. No “star” players are held accountable for their actions.

As a supposed moral, and ethical example to our children, Zavala continues to break CIF recruiting rules, as well as breaking “playing time promises” to said recruit’s parents.

If you can’t play by the rules, and competently do your job, then it’s time for a change.

    Not M.S.

  • Concerned Fan

Are you referring about a specific running back that can use profanity all the time and talk back to the coaches in front of Zavala and nothing is ever done? Discipline is not there. The players see this and they can’t believe the leadership provided by Zavala. what’s that line on that movie: Attitude reflects leadership…

  • Coach Zavala

I just want to appologize to all the kids, parents and wilson alumni. I had no clue what i got myself into when I decided to be the head coach at wilson. I failed everyone. I aggree I must be the 2nd worst Head Coach wilson ever had. we can not forget Hoyd HAHAHA. The OC was as horrible as me.

  • GHS

    RCCougars

Until your post Most people from Rancho have shown a lot of class. Look it up num nuts it public record, win cyclopedia is one source over 4000. you can’t dispute facts. I did find out GHS enrollment is down to 23000 no excuses just facts.

  • Big Cat

Word is Merrill has reached out to many people inquiring who might be the next head coach. Character is key. Zavala is resigning after the banquet, which is at Shrimp Boat Buffet on Calima.

  • Future of Wilson Football

I have heard many rumors coming out of the front office. One that has been validated by school administration is Ryan Merrill son David Merrill is taking a teaching job at Wilson. Their was no comment on the football coaching situation and Ryan Merrill being involved in the fix. You take the no comment how ever you want, I have reached my own conclusions. Another interesting topic is David Merrill will also be returning to Wilson, at what position hasn’t been made publc.

Based on comments I have heard from the current staff their is talk that David Merrill maybe taking over the head coach job and Rytan Merrill is going to be the OC. Interesting to see how this is going to play out.

  • heads up

Funny how the seasons over for wilson yet the bashing continues. Goes to show some of these people have nothing better to do with their lives. You want inside details here’s one for you, zavala will not be going anywhere and all these negative people blogging on here you are beginning to be known so i’d watch what i say because in the end you will still be at wilson with zavala and have just a bit of awkwardness around. so get with what they’re trying to do there or just get out…
