Southeast Prediction: Nothing will stop West Covina, not even a rematch against Bonita

Note: Inland and Pac-5 predictions on Wednesday.

Fred’s explanation: With all due respect to No. 2 La Serna, a 9-1 giant just like West Covina and Bonita, I’ll take our side of town against their side of town on any given Friday. It’s as simple as that. Am I taking a 6-4 Burroughs seriously at the No. 4 seed? Not really, I have them falling in the second round. Am I taking a 7-3 La Mirada seriously as the No. 3 seed? No, I’m taking Muir in a first-round upset after the way the Mustangs handled PHS in the Turkey Tussle, plus the Mustangs are great in this situation, almost knocking off No. 1 Charter Oak in the first round last year. I am taking the team that should have been seeded, Bonita, whose only loss came against West Covina and should be at least the No. 4 seed. Heck, if Amat could get a No. 4 seed over league champ Long Beach Poly because of strength of schedule, then why aren’t the Bearcats No. 4 with a win over Claremont and only loss to the top team? In any case, that’s why I like West Covina and Bonita to meet in the championship again, they’re the two best after the way Bonita took care of Diamond Ranch in the finale, and they also have everyone healthy. But in the end, West Covina has too many horse’s. What happened in October (a 55-21 win over Bonita) will happen again in December, sort of like waiting for a Charter Oak-Diamond Ranch rematch and knowing what the outcome will be. Normally I would like La Mirada’s chances, but this isn’t one of their great teams, and they’ve had great teams. La Serna is always tough too, I just like Bonita’s nine wins better than La Serna’s nine wins.

Southeast Division Predictions
Top Seeds: 1. West Covina (9-1), 2. La Serna (9-1), 3. La Mirada (7-3), 4. Burbank Burroughs (6-4).

LM beats Muir by three touchdowns. This will be an easy game for LM. I love watching well coached teams beat undisciplined speedy teams.

  • Basic

    Fred,

It’s going to be tough for the Bearcats but this is what most believe in our little fish bowl so we will go with it.

Now as far as everyone being healthy, well that is wrong…The best athlete (IMO) on the team C. H. is still out, which is Huge… He gives the Bearcats so many more options on offense and solidifies a really good D. So yes, we believe the Bearcats can there but no we are not fully healthy

    Best of luck Bearcats…

  • Bonita

Huge noise?? I think Aaron and 1 or 2 other bloggers made some noise. I wouldn’t call that huge. As KH said, you gotta beat whoever is in front of you.

  • Southeast Observations

    1) Nice – The matchup between Mayfair & Diamond Ranch. Will Chase Price play? If he does D-Ranch is a whole different animal. This could be a great game and the winner will likely face WestCo in the Semis.

    2) Stacked – The bottom bracket is by far the more difficult. When you add all the Calprep ratings together the upper sum comes in at 134.6. Take out the top seed WestCo’s 40.1 and it leaves 94.6 or an average of 13.5 per remaining teams. The lower bracket comes in at a staggering 165.8 or an average of more than 20 pts. per team. Take out the #2 seed La Serna’s 33.4 and it leaves 132.4 or 18.9 per remaining teams.

BTW-Only three upper bracket teams have a higher rating than 18.9 while 5 lower bracket teams come in above that rating.

    3) Tested – Getting to the semi finals will bruise all of these lower bracket teams. On paper, Muir doesn’t play well on the road, but they are strong enough to tire a La Mirada team. The quarter finals: La Mirada vs. Bonita; Arcadia vs. La Serna. Any of these four teams will be a great opponent for West Covina, who should enter the championship game unchallenged.

    4) Puzzled – Why no Hacienda vs. Pacific first round matchups?

    5) Balance – Best balanced teams are Bonita 21 passing TD’s, 24 rushing TD’s & Arcadia 23 passing TD’s, 19 rushing.

Good luck to all the teams – Lets hope for quality officiating – And pray for no injuries.

  • A Final Observation

    6) Special Teams – Will likely win more than a few games in these playoffs. Maintaining great field position against running teams is a must. Bonita has the best kicking game followed closely by La Serna. WestCo has the best returners in Soloman & Lee.

  • LA Exist Has Begun

The school of choice for the sophomore class is Damien. Two sophomores and one to follow very shortly have transferred to Damien.

The interesting issue is I don’t see one of these players ever playing under the lights. His brother is on Gano’s coaching staff so that could be the angle. The family is also very very good friends with Gano, so I am sure he is going to take care of them. What is shocking is this family has been die heart LA for years and now they are transferring their youngest son out.

The other player was the only quality player left from last years freshmen squad that stayed. The kid is a much better baseball player than football.

Their is also talk about the freshmen team, many players are seeing the light and will be transferring out with the freshmen option. This program is once again taking one big step backwards. I guess you really can’t get any worse than 0-10.

    fred,
    love the love hugs bro.
we wont let you down getting there but the end results will piss you off,
    covia beat w/c/
    w/c beat bonita.
so now, w/c your saying cant beat covia.
am saying, bonita spanks w/c finales.

    well basic.
theres alot of top players on this years team.c.h. got hurt early, where are we bro,the teams 9-1,
no one player ever makes or breaks the team,
    not in h,s. at least.
basic we have another k.c. on team too buddy.
when he went down last season after broken foot,oh wait i let him play the next game against clmt with a broken foot, thats your mvp buddy.team wasnt the same after # 6 watched from the sideline last year.
both casey and k.c. are both leaders with there skills.
this season healthy with k.c. 9-1
he punts,1 kick-off return 57 yards. 6 catches on offense, only missed two passes throwin his way he trip on one and almost made a great turn around catch against santa fe. has 2 td running the wildcat, when he gets the ball things happen.maybe podleys saving k.c. for cif.i hope he dosent wait tell next season, where gone.
oh forgot olb defense something like 70 tackle total, four fumble recoverys i for a td.the reason his tackle total not in the 100 they blitz him every sinken play.penneltin knows when k.c. gets his two plays on offense garrett gets the ball his way, last week they both looked great on a prefect ball out front of k.c. he made a great driving catch.big league catch.
hey i dont give a rats ass about any of you saying am pumping up k.c.
dont need to theres alot of bearcats fans who will alway remember # 6 .he will be my mvp for life,

remember those goals are not in our prays.
win the cif x championship thats it.
    go bearcats

  • b

Head Coach at LA is doomed
This is what happens when you dont play the best kids you have.
Playing favorites and kiss a–es never works.
The team figured you out Coach
    You are disciplined to losing.
Time to hang up the tennis shoes up.

  • Rematch?

I think Bonita is in the finals. They will play some great games against California, La Mirada & La Serna. Just maybe (and hopefully) they’ll get to see West Covina again in the final. Any given day in football any team on the field can win. Do not underestimate your opponent! – GO BEARCATS!!!!

  • Bobby Bulldog

    Hey KH,

Will the “great” K.C shake hands after the game this time when the Bulldogs run over him again?

  • Aaron

The thing that makes the Bulldogs so much different than a lot of the teams in the Southeast and why some have said they can compete with the big teams this year and I mean this year specifically is their lines. They have both a large, lean, and strong offensive and defensive lines…but it’s not just that…from not only looking at their roster but observations from other fans. They have a lot of linemen and are able to stay fresh constantly.

As far as Bonita making it to the finals…I think it can be done but how about the boys go out and get coach his first playoff victory in his tenure at Bonita. One game at a time and this week it is Cal.

  • kh

    bobby billydog
watch video,w/c players were all over the place, couldnt not believe they beat us.
if he shakes hands or not who cares,
it not wrestling one on one.theres 50 so on guys, give it a rest,
hey he offered a hand after knocking the big boy on his ass against walnut, didnt need to help the whole coaching and medical staff carried him off.
take that to washington st.couger was stick by a bearcat.
bobby its how you play he game, not who you shake hands with after the game.

  • wake up cats

WCHS is by far the best team in the division. If they play the cats again the beating will be worse than the first beat down. BHS plays good team defense and has a few offensive weapons, but the big difference is the speed factor. WC ran circles around BHS and will do it again, if BHS makes it to the finals.

  • kh

wc vs bh match up # 2
    just got off max prep.
wc holds all cards rushing the ball, thats it.
we were with out two starters senior nose gaurd and senior stud corner back.
passing my god wc 8 td bh 21
defense fumble wc 6 bh 11
thats because we stick the crap out of the ball holder.
    punter 36.87 bh wc 33.00
sacks even wc 21 bh 20
heres where k.c should be this is where we are getting killed punt return only 5.36 yard ave. wc 13.57 thats hugh too many times our guys just let ball go right by.santa fe three times.
coach put k.c. back there, you let him run the kick off back once 57 yards and a shoe string kept him from 6
so the key to winning is stop the wc run and control the ball, big deal.
stack the line have two safetys.
put big number 64 back there and cut him loose on the bulldogs running backs, come on coaches,we can do this figure it out.we need to punish there little guy # 5 stuff him, then if qb get knocked out nobody on the roster has taken any snaps.5 and qb send 64 with a running speed and get the ring.

Now that CO & SH is in the upper division, it’ll give teams like WC, Bonita, WalnutS a chance @ a C.I.F championship. With the exception of DR, (who plays very tough football come playoff time), these schools are pathetic. Is that why the majority of the administrators voted out CO & SH? So their schools have a chance?? Hahahahaha…what a joke. Enjoy it while it lasts. In 2 years CO & SH will probably be back & rule the SGV like always. Only other school worth mentioning is DR…WC: I hope you get your CIF…Bonita: forget about it, you’re overrated…WalnutS: hahahaha, you’re a joke w/a pathetic coach & an overrated, cheap shot of a player that the U Dub will regret offering. Sorry, but the truth hurts. See ya b….

m.a get over it do you know how stupid you sound south hills sucks and charter oak is ok. this year. as allways south hills is only good when kids tranfer in and we both know that is not going to happen anymore. bonita walnut d ranch would kill your sorry south hill team west covina put you guys away by half time you had no chance against them and most of that team is coming back so get ready for another assbeating at there house.

  • Dan

    m.a.
It wouldn’t have mattered, CO or SH would have been non factors, just not very good teams this year. Maybe next year they would have had a chance.

  • m.a

M&G n funny: both of you are very very stupid. 1st of all I have no ties to either school. Do you really believe that SH is the only school w/transfer’s?? Hey funny, change ur name to stupid..hahahaha. Look @ every school n you will find transfer’s.
Yes WC put it on SH, but hey that’s football. You win some you lose some. Were you blogging last year after SH punked WC all over CDF?? I didn’t think so. You really think Bonita or WalnutS can beat CO or SH? Hahaha…that’s a good one. You got jokes. CO will run circles around you guys & SH will punch them smack in the mouth..lol..
Let me take you back to last year…for ex: WalnutS were killing teams in non-league w/ their “studs”…came time for league, their “studs” were “dud’s”..rb n wr/db were big kids, but way overrated..too soft..wr/te/db(u-dub) commit is still too soft…have your fun, win ur “cif” championship’s, but remember, CO & SH will soon return & rule the SGV. M&G: you dropped something…lol…deez nutZ

Please, oh please. You guys had 8 in the bos last time you played us. We beg you, bring the safties up, commit them to the run. That’s sound football. Get 10 guys in the box. Leave your corner in man on our receiver. Bring your FS up in the box. Leave no one in the deep middle. Put a hit out on #5, go ahead. We still have other ball carriers. You keep hanging on to the notion you stopped us in the first half. We stopped ourselves. Both drives you supposedly stopped us were halted by holdings and false starts. Like others have said, our toughest opponent is ourselves. My word, I hope we do see you in finals. It will be a blast if that’s the case.By the way, we see 8 and 9 in the box every week. What’s new?
I take nothing away from Bonita. They got a good squad. They fly around on defense and cause turnovers. The knock is the same one they’ve had for several years, are they physical? If they find that, a WC Bonita rematch would be much closer. BUT, there are some games to be played yet and some others who have the same dreams. Respect your opponents so they don’t jump up bite you in the butt. That goes for everyone in the playoffs. You never know.Bellflower could find that magic for one night, Cal Hi may find golden nugget where everything falls right. Not likely this week, but possible. Good luck Hacienda League, play hard and play well.

  • Not this year.

    m.a,
Bonita would beat both of those schools, Walnut
would be a good game with either, WC would pound both CO & SH and pull away in the end.

  • kh

    hilarious.
you sound like a football guy.
    refs calls go both ways.
remember a couple plays early its alot different game.
we can score and score in bunches.
    nobody said you guys stink,
i like what i saw, tough team stay on blocks and finishes runs.
why would we kick ball to your streghts.
not coach so cant anwser that one,
just like friday against muir there # 22 ave. 41 yds returns.so dont kick ball to him.
hopefully like the players we saw you guys and foersure hopefully the coaching staff will come together with a 100% better sceme, never did we run ball like we can,i forgot another running back was out the game starter # 5 8 td on the season to lead us..
not a excuse at all there was three starters out that game and all are fully heathly.
