Tonight’s Results
Pac-5
Tesoro 31, Bishop Amat 21
— Quarterback Rio Ruiz had a tough night, committing four turnovers in the second half. The Lancers rallied from 14-0 down to tie the score at half and it was 21-21 going into the fourth, but three turnovers in the fourth quarter were too much to overcome. It’s going to be a long off-season for the boys in blue, who watched their 17-game home win streak come to and end.
Mid-Valley
San Dimas 21, Arroyo 14
– The Saints scored with 54 seconds left for the go-ahead touchdown. Arroyo scored on a trick play with no time left, but it was ruled an illegal pass, the defending champs moving on.
Village Christian 31, Azusa 24 – The Aztecs gave up more points than they had all season combined. An excruciating ending for the three-time Montview League champs and the Mid-Valley’s top seed.
Covina 42, La Canada 14 — The Valle Vista league champs jumped to a huge halftime lead and never looked back.
Rosemead 49, Temple City 36 – This was wild from start to end, the Panthers doing just enough to survive and advance.
Maranatha 41, La Puente 28 – The Minutemen one of three Olympic League teams to advance, proving what everyone thought about the Olympic having the best league in the division.
Schurr 31, Baldwin Park 7 – The Braves never had a shot, falling behind 31-0, the only Valle Vista league team to lose in the first round.
Monrovia 41, Gladstone 3 – The Wildcats proved why they’re the real Mid-Valley favorites, winning easy at home.
Southeast Division
Bonita 51, California 6
— The Bearcats scored like crazy, but now they get upset-minded Muir on the road next week. That should be a dandy.
West Covina 49, Bellflower 0 – The Bulldogs showed why they’re the division’s top seed, getting a shutout to boot.
Mayfair 25, Diamond Ranch 20 — The postseason magic is over for the Panthers, who advanced to the previous two Southeast title games.
La Serna 13, Walnut 10, OT — The Mustangs almost pulled off a shocker, giving La Serna all it could handle before falling in overtime.
Inland Division
Vista Murrieta 28, Charter Oak 7 – The Chargers won’t be practicing on Thanksgiving for the first time in years.
Chino Hills 70, Corona 42 – The Huskies jumped out to a huge lead, Corona came back, then the Huskies stretched their legs again.
Roosevelt 28, Claremont 21 — The Wolfpack ended their season with three straight losses after a promising start.

Good Luck to all the local teams! Amat fans, you should cruise past Tesoro. They were tough on defense, but not very athletic. We beat them but didn’t play very well offensively. They are a young team….they should be very good the next couple of years.

Crespi’s win over Los Alamitos was considered a small upset by all accounts and that’s a good thing considering the majority of comments I’ve been reading on other blogs.

The Serra, although being ranked as one of the strongest leagues in the country, doesn’t get much respect from a healthy portion of our friends in Orange County, at least if you gauge it by the blog comments. If I recall correctly, Crespi will be at home against Servite, so they have a shot.

A Tesoro upset would be huge and I’m sure this is not lost on them. I don’t see it happening for a few reasons. First, It’s a home game for Amat and we all know the significance of that. Second, Fred posted a video of Tesoro here recently. Virtually all of the running highlights were of their running backs Tago and Cody. BOTH of them are NOT going to be playing. Third, their QB, Adam, who is only a sophomore, has been getting better each week, but he needs more time to develop as a passer. He has however become their main rusher. Some would argue that this would pose a problem for Amat, Simply put, Adam can move, but he’s not Vernon Adams from Alemany.

I recently discovered that Tesoro’s stats on Maxpreps are not up to date. For example, Adam has 10 TD’s not 7. I’m not sure about his INT’s, so I don’t know what his TD/INT ratio is. Tesoro’s D-line, which is mostly sophomores, is their strong point. They have a good pass rush. However, I see Amat containing them. After all, you don’t average almost 37 points a game out of luck. An upset? Possible. But don’t count on it.

    hey mead,
how does it feel being compared to el monte lions. guess theyll be a 3 way tie to see how is the next team to be known as third and fourth best in the MVL. the vikings, lions oh and ya the mead, maybe taking that 2×4 out of where you guys are hidin it and replacin the white helmets with it would be a better methaphor to try to show whos tougher. all i heard on the rosemead side was bitching and moaning why they couldnt keep up with arroyo. good luck with temple city maybe you guys can actually win the way you once did and not like you have been.

  • Joe Amat

Is Crespi over Los Alamitos really “Upset City”? Does not surprise me in the least. Of course, outside of 1 or 2 games in the 1st round – nothing in the Pac5 should be a surprise.

Good luck to all the SGV teams and wishing safety for all..

  • smallcity

    Joe,

I would agree it’s not an upset in my book, as the Sunset league is somewhat weak when compared to the other PAC-5 leagues. Moreover, and most noteworthy, Crespi beat Clovis West (Clovis’ only loss) , beat Vista Murrieta (Vista’s only loss), lost to Amat by 3, lost to Dominguez by 3 and Alemany by 11. 4 of their opponents are ranked in the top 4 in California, as I’m sure you know.

Crespi would give Amat a run for their money if they met again. How some folks in OC counted it as a small upset is a beyond me.

  • Colt74

Good luck tonight to all SGV WARRIORS! Be SAFE and above all HAVE FUN!

  • Red Barron

Good luck to all the teams tonight, hope everyone plays hard and comes outs with what they deserve. Going to be chilly tonight, time to load up the flask, bring out the thermals, and beanie.

Good luck Joseph Garcia (Jo Jo), congrats on being called up to Amat Varsity for the playoffs!

    Go Chino Hills Huskies!

    Go TC Rams!

  • ’00

Ima say it again… 3 Serra League teams in the Semifinal? Crespi’s got Servite. It’s the Amat, Poly/MD match-up that is worrisome. Alemany just needs to not screw up.

  • 12th man

The Pac 5 is the third toughest division in the Nation!! How special would it be to have all 3 teams from the Serra league win there 1st playoff game…Im telling you..the Serra league is no joke!!..for those of you who dont know, the Serra league is the 2nd toughest division in California!! Its like watching mini Universities play..If you like watching real football come out & support Bishop Amat!!
Good luck to all the local SGV teams & a special thanks to all the seniors who mite be playing there last game tonight…come out & execute! Do what you have been preparing all season to do!! Play Hard!! Play Fair!! Play like its your last game of your football career & for some of you it will be!!..No matter what..Win or Lose..You are all Champions here in the SGV on & off the field!!

  • CO Bro

Good luck to all SGV teams playing tonight.
CO will shock the world! (They better if I’m driving all the way out there tonight! haha)

  • Colt74

The COVINA COLTS, THE BALDWIN ARK BRAVES and the SAN DIMAS SAINTS, would like to thank the LA CANADA and SCHURR SPARTANS,and THE ARROYO KNIGHTS for their trips down to the SGV and their valiant effort tonight in advance. Please accept this as our parting gift and we would like to dedicate this to both of the SPARTANS, and the KNIGHTS,. Enjoy this and hold us dear in your hearts till we meet again.

    Red Barron,
I hope the rain stays away. I disagree about the flask comment. I see that as a problem with Chino Hills parents. Half of them come “tanked’ to the games….great example they are setting for the kids. In years past, our chain crew gets all liquored up tailgating then comes to work the game. There is a time and place for getting liquored up….before a high school football game is not one of them.

  • Football Expert

Not having seen film on many opponents and not having the luxury of an injury report or aacademic compliance records I’d still liek to make soem educated guess on who will win tonights games. I know some hold alot of water on game film and matchups, on player developments and in team issues but I don’t. End teh end it’s all a waste of time really. I mean who really has the time to look up stats, leagyues, Rival thsi or that team experince or staff quality, it’s all so in teh way of teh Big Picture.

    Here’s my predictions:

The teams that I have friends, family or ties to WILL WIN. Teh teams I harbor hate for, envy for or just plain are too big for their britches WILL LOSE.

Trust me when I say this…really undretsnading the game means nothing. Picking winners is pretty simple really.

Hey when all else fails…go teh Sportswriter route and go with best Snack Bar/Free Eats. No wonder Amat gets so much love!! Ever check out their spread!

No wonder the drug & alcohol abuse problem is on the rise @ Chino Hills High…too many “cool” parents who condone it. I know of a couple of CHHS football parents who hosted parties ,with kegs & other alcohol, for the high school kids….WOW isn’t that cool! They need to grow up, teach their kids responsibility and not worry about being the “cool” parents…what a joke.

  • WHERE’S WALDO

    FC,Mean Machine, Damien Dad ,
Is that really you posting as a football expert.Man you really have been bagging on Aram and Fred these days . Well I guess since you don’t have a horse in the race you got nothing better to do . Where is the great one and his team . Thought they were on their way to great things. Then the season started.

  • Red Barron

    CH Husky Fan,

You’re killing me Husky Fan. See you at the game tonight……. I know huh?

    Go Huskies, Lancers and Rams!

  • I like Fred !!!!

    WALDO…hey I like Fred.

Aram’s too wrapped up in his “wonderkid” past to take too seriously. Besides his skill is writing not knowing.

The last time I checked the best call he ever made was giving McD the POOY twice …. but then a blind man could see how special Mike was.

His other skill is making Fred his best friend. Nothing beats hanging out with people who think the world of you and have no ego whatsoever to compete with.

Fred’s a great local writer who takes a really writes betetr than the space he’s given. Steve does teh best team analysis and league break downs and Aram…well he’s “gifted” and none of teh rules of engagement apply…because ..he’s gifted.

Too funny. Maybe Roddy could give Aram lessons on PR and humilty./ For as much as Roddy is accused of self promotion he’s one of the most humble and gracious individuals I’ve ever met.

Aram “was” a talent for sure ..but then so was Jeff George.

    OUCH !

Better yet just ask the teams he played against. What a warrior he was.

  • FC

Waldo ..oh I forgot to adddress teh Damien question.

Outstanding job this year by Gano and his coaches. Talk about quality individuals. These guys could give a clinio on patience and fortitude in the face of adversity. Class acts all around.

After teh last game I went up to Garrison and shook hi hand and told him he was teh Magic Man because what he was able to accomplish this year and last. Talk about an outstanding individual. What I wouldn’t do to hav eplaye dfor this man.

Same goes for Caoch Flores. Talkk about patience and dedication. Just an outstandig, engaguing staright shooter. Man if he leaves it’ll be a sad day for every one. FISRT FREAKIN RATE GUY!!!

Add Howling who is just what the doctor ordered at Damein considering what they had theior before. Walk up to this guy and the ego just isn’t there. No tough guy ‘tude, no BS …just a very hard working patient man. again…guy does sooooooooo much with sooooooo little.

fair is Fair, a Stanford grad…a mad scientists who drives a beat up car and comes to work every day. Talka bout brain power and attention to detail. Just a sharp tack.

Then you have Caoch Mark who’s fighting Cancer and still shows up every day to make sure teh kids get going afetr years of neglect. Teh manis a ROCK and some one who undertsnads it’s all aboput teh kids.

I won’t go coach by coach but playing for Gano is an honor and watching him, and teh affecthe’s had acroos all lines at Damein,is remarkable.

With teh Amat freshmen satf and a few administrative changes Gano will make a Cahmpiosn. I have complete confidence it will happen.

The best decison Damein’s made since I’ve been there was to hire Gano. Without him the school never gets out of Neutral.

I hear Gano reads thsi blog and at times gets beat up by the comments but I’ll say this…”He”s a Godsend” and I mean that with every fiber in my body.

When Gano gave me a field pass I said, “They might have to bless teh fiedl”…he said, “You’re always welcomed”. Gievn my history and teh nonsense of the past I know one thing…I wish he coached all my kids.

As I told a drink ex-coach who thought teh sidelines was a good place to measure up…”Look around…he’s better!!! Deal with it!”

BTW Damien’s last game was a game for the ages and might in my opinion break teh starngle hold of teh past. My prediction Damein’s QB Z will be betetr than any QB in teh valley next year…opps short of Rio.lol if he commits!

    Heard it here first.

  • The Source

FC, come down from the clouds! your rants about Damien and GG are far from reality, I think you’re pass on the side lines exposed you to some form of Agent Orange from the field turf, tell me how classy and competitve GG is after they beat Amat, he’ll drop them asap,he wants no part of that program, never has, never will, take a look at the history books! along with Pac-5 patsy JSerra, how do you lose by 35 to that cream puff team? they went 0-5 in the Trinity league, AGAIN, well , it sure doesn’t take much for you to get blinded by mediocrity, just a simple sideline pass for the new “guru” of SGV HS football, lol

    DR Fan,

Just texted my son and he says no on the suspension of players so let’s hope he’s correct. I’m looking forward to another great Panther Football game. Good Luck to both teams and Best Wishes to all the Seniors tonight, I’m looking forward to the next 2 years of Panther Football.

    WE ARE DR……………!

  • SGV FOOTBALL

Ohhh my goodness I have been having blog withdrawls. Good luck to all the SGV teams playing tonight. CO you got this, its time to nut up and lay the wood on these IE teams. The Arroyo, San Dimas game is interesting San Dimas to win, also the Village Christian game Azusa is interesting. VC only has 29 kids on their roster WTF Azusa should roll! One of my friends told me that Tesoro will be suiting up most of the JV to fill up the sideline from 30 yard line to opposite 30 yard line. PAC 5 Finals will be between San Clemente and Mission Viejo while the Inland Finals will be between CC vs Rancho or Norco.

  • Gosh I miss my buddy Harvey

Source I’m sorry you disagree, Gano is far from mediocre. Medicore is loisng to Bassett 28-6.

Nayway I stand by my statements. In regards to Football and life lessons these men are exceptional.

If you disagree I’m sure you’re entitled. I can only go by what I see first hand and how tehy conduct themselves both on and off the fuield.

Losing to Amat this year is no disgrace as 8 otehr teams did as well…hopefully more after tonight.

Compare Damein’s score with others Amat wins. No bad considering Gano was breaking in 18 new starters!

Anayway nothing you say will change my mind. But food for thought…last year the Lnacers were at Damein and if not for a funmbled punt at the 6 maybe Damien makes a cloder game…they lost by 9 and would have lost by 8 but Gano went for two to get in position to try and win out right.

Hey whoever made teh schedule did Gano and Co no favors but what info dio you have of any changes.

BTW Serr’s JSerra was a money add on, every one knows that!

Enjoyed you comments if for no otehr reason than I missed having a special fiend following me around.

Soem of teh best coaching efforts are done with .500 teams who should have been 2-8…last I checked he went 6-4 and placed second in league but got out pointed to miss the playoffs. No shame there as Claremont CO and Chino Hills got in.

    He’s a good man…and that’s all I’ve ever asked for.

  • AMAT 73

Good luck to all the teams in the SGV and bring home a victory tonight. Special wishes to Pride and his AZTECS .Prove them all wrong get the first of 4 wins tonight. To the Men in Blue put in the work and stay the course. Tonight is the first step towards the prize . Stay focused. AMAT WILL SHINE TONIGHT. My Friend Sparta , back with a vengence I see. Had to listen to all their crap all year

I am going to sleep so good tonight……..

  • General Turgidson

    SOlDIERS… I have returned in my glory…

I tried to say it all year and no one would listen.

    And I quote:
“Amat will do what it always does.. lose in the first round to a good team.”

Was a 9-1 record against the oh so challenging Garfield’s of the world… was that worth not getting your team ready for the playoffs? Ill tell you what, Amat was playing Garfield when Tesoro was playing Santa Margarita and Harry Welch. It shows.

    NICE SHOOTING SOLDIER

    APB out on AZTEC PRIDE.

  • The Humbler

    ATTENTION: AMAT LOSES !
Cant wait to hear from the whining Amat Nation and put their “spin” on why they didn’t win tonight.
Rio cant handle 4th qtr. pressure throwing picks in the last 2 games to lose.
Theres going to be alot of negative comments toward Amat, its not that we were rooting against a SGV team but more like against the Amat Nation for being so conceited all season.
Next time be a little more Humble and when it comes up to bite you in the ass it won’t hurt so bad.

PLEASE Fred and Aram not another word about Covina in the Tribune for the rest of the season….

  • JG

Wow What’s with all the bashing of WC by the Amat Faithfull tonite, you know all season there have been very few bloggers from west covina if any putting down Amat or saying that we are better then you, we respect Amat, Because even though you say we do not schedule anybody we sceduled you last year, which as i recall, the game was pretty close until midway through the the forth quarter. Amat had a very good season, Congradulations. Instead of saying that WC is not on your level, why don’t show some of the class that your preach all year, and show some respect for your next door neighbor.GO BULLDOGS!!!!!

Its amazing how the proud Bishop people are the first to blame their own. Your team cannot win every game and it is too bad your team lost. I was rooting for all our boys in SGV. Remember all Amat people it is a team effort and It’s not one kids fault. Over rated, can’t do it under pressure blablabla. Rio is a talented boy and will grow to be a talented man. Great job boys in blue great job..

Aztec Pride, I am truly sorry for ur loss, you are a true fan and I wish the final score was in ur favor.

To all the Amat players, I am also sorry your season has concluded. I thought you had a great shot at a deep playoff run.

To all the arrogant Amat fans, I cant wait to hear your spin on this loss! What was it this time? The refs, the fact that you had to practice at CO? Did notsince95 jinx you? Mighty are the men who are one and done…..AGAIN. All the negative comments you will be receiving on this blog you brought on yourselves. Proclaiming that your shhit don’t stink, sorry but you REEK! Please don’t try to play the “we play in the PAC-5, the toughest league in the country! You can’t win the big one and you never will. But hey, at least you are the best team in the San Gabriel Valley! (whatever that is worth, do you get a ring for that?)
    ROFLMMFAO!

  • HS Football Fan

I guess some of the valley teams took a beating tonight. Can we stop raving about D. Ranch too. Good Grief. I went to the Charter Oak Game. They held tough for a while but could never capitalize on VM mistakes and eventually were wore down. I did observe some cry baby parents in the stands who haven’t had to deal with adversity. I’m sure Big Lou will reload OR retire.

  • FallenAztec

Scherf is an idiot. After the fake punt on his own 15 no way COY. Hell, he should be fired for that stupid call. THe only way I can respect him is if he resigns. He owes the city of Azusa an apology.

Oh yeah, Fred and Aram…..Montview = 1 and done. Never, I mean never give a Montview team a 1 seed or rank in CIF…..It’s history baby.

Scherf….what a JOKE….Fake punt on the 15 yard line????? Who does he think he is? A short, fat guy with a bag beard.

Well maybe if he would schedule someone other than the Sister’s of Mercy and School of the Blind he would know this stuff. Oh, but he probably played for the Sister’s and never learned this in “football 101″ He gets all his knowledge from Madden.

    RESIGN JERK-OFF.

HEY THAT’S FOOTBALL AND YOU GUYS GOT WHAT YOU WANTED!

AZUSA SHOULD HAVE WON THAT GAME, WE WERE UP 24-15, IN THE FOURTH QUARTER, AND I AS A FOOTBALL OBSERVER,HAVE TO QUESTION SOME OF THOSE PLAY CALLING! BUT I’M NOT THE COACH, AND THE SCORED READ 31-24 at the end! I’ll say this, you got your monies worth tonight! Great Game AZUSA, UNFORTUNATELY WE LOST!

  • AZUSA OVERRATED

OMG wow you call yourselves azusa fans and your coach makes a mistake and you say he should resign!!! you dont deserve to say your a fan if you lose one game and then turn!!! horrible so what azusa was overrated anyways! thats what happens when you play a real football team!

  • reality

It was a pleasure to watch Bohi QB Pendelton work tonite. While not fast his footwork and pocket presence have improved 100%. Plus it does’nt hurt that he uses his full 6’5″ frame to easily look over the defensive rush. If Bonita can continue to give him time to throw and the defense continue solid play they have a good shot against Muir. Podley, please do something about the stupid penalties for undiciplined actions. I would hate to see those calls cost the team from advancing? 200 yds. in penalties

  • imurhuckleberry

ROFLMAO!!! WTF happened to the Azusa Aztecs claiming that they were going to prove the SGV that they were the BEST team with under 30 pts allowed..You see what happens when you let it get to your head! SO I GUESS YOU WILL BE GOING BACK TO TACO BELL FOR THE RESPECT THAT YOU CLAIMED THAT YOU WERE GOING TO EARN BY BEATING A “REAL” TEAM.. Not so easy being out of your little cheap league that you play in right?? HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA Where is Aztec Pride at now? Probably at Taco Bell with the players too…

  • 12th man

Amat before we start blaming the game on turnovers & penalties..Lets give the swarming Tesoro defense some credit!..They totally shut down Jalen M. & had good coverage all night! Amat’s defense on the other hand looked horrible, worse than last week!..Once again the db’s got burned all night & gave up big plays on third & long..I thought for sure Hags was reading these blogs because ive been saying all week to put Rio R. somewhere in the secondary!! Guess what? Thats exactly what he did rite before the half for three plays Rio was in…Then i couldnt understand why he didnt keep him in for the rest of the second half..It was obvious the secondary couldnt come up with any stops..The defense is young..they will learn! Even though Amat had 4 turnovers its the defensive players job to come up with some stops! Defense wins Championships!!! Amats defense has given up over 135 points in the last 5 games thats 27 points a game!..I know Hags said he couldnt blame the db’s last week for all the big plays..He said the QB Vernon Adams beat them with his speed & his ability to scramble! Wonder what he’s going to say this week??? That QB from Tesoro had no speed he had an average throwing arm & to top it off he’s a sophmore!..Theres no excuse for the poor coverage! I know theres going to be alot of BA fans that dont agree with me..so before you start your rampage your verbal attacks… I just want to let you know that i enjoyed going to all the BA games this year…Amat has alot of heart & the boys play with class & integrity my hats go off to them for having a productive season! Special thanks to all the seniors who played there last game tonight…No matter what you boys are champions on & off the field!!.. On a brighter note: Amat is young like i said..they have alot of returning players…The million dollar question will be..is RIO returning???? Good Luck Amat in 2011!!!~

  • CO Bro

    Aztec Pride,
You sir are amazing! I must my friend you are by far the best high school football fan I have ever had the pleasure of reading your posts. Not only are you as classy when you win, you are as classy when you loose. No excuses, no finger pointing, no crying about this or that. Just a great fan! I only wish more posters had half as much class as you do sir. You are refreshing, I wish your team was still playing in the tournament and I will miss your spirit, until next season my friend.

CO, time to reload and prepare for next season. Good luck to all the seniors, it was a pleasure watching you all grow both as players and as young men. Thanks for you contribution to Chargers football.

  • azusa aztec

hey look Scherf flat out blew it, no excuses. I always think who yells at coaches when they mess up ? take responsibility coach and address the community and face the music. To Village Christian I certaintly dont want to take anything away from you but I wish Scherf would have made you earn it atleast. Azusa hung with them and should hold there head up and not let anyone tell them different. Damn you Scherf you should of gave us a chance, 2 min. left 24 to 24 kick the ball and take it to O.T. thats pee wee stuff. A no brainer, duhhhhhh!!!

  • Bronco Nation

Vista Murrieta 28 Charter Oak 7….

  • its funny

its funny cause just like 4 days ago all azusa fans were “OMG SCHREF YOUR THE SAVIOR OF AZUSA!! YOU MAKE THE COMMUNITY PROUD!” and now lol “YOU SUCK RESIGN!” common! lol make up your mind

  • SGV FOOTBALL

Today was a sad day for CO football, disappointed as a fan in the player that threw a fit and acted like a fkn child! I tried to hold it in all season but as a senior you need to have more control over yourself. Coaches should have made a decison to remove this cancer from the team months ago. I just hope other players there make the choice to not look up to this prima donna and make the right decision to be and continue to be a team player through thick and thin. Our year is over now and the weight rooms awaits, next year will be a great year for CO football. Young men great job this year and we’ll see you guys in the other sports season this year.

PS in closing I was not at all impressed with Vista Murrieta, it was 14-7 at halftime and if they make it to the finals and CC is as good as advertised CC drops 40 on VM easily this year.

  • aztec insider

Azusa aztecs! lol lol lol lol

  • Dee

Everyone blaming Azusa coach is wrong because if It would have worked, you would have been praising him. The boys and coaches did a great job. There was a key bad call on the refs part, but its part of the game. Just sad to see how Azusa was bamboozled into being titled #1 team but placed against a team that was no way one of worst in the league. I hurt for these Senior boys and I still do believe Azusa is one of top teams around. Thanks for a great exciting season boys. Can’t wait till next year.

  • DRanchhhh

    Damnn….

  • just thinkin’

Long Beach Poly, Los Alamitos, Edison, and La Mirada must not be very good because they are one and done.
Azusa, Arroyo, Baldwin Park, Charter Oak, Claremont, Diamond Ranch, and Walnut clearly are not very good because they are one and done in weaker divisions
What does that say about Glendora, South Hills, and Damien who were none and done
Garfield (42-14), Venice (66-0) , Dominguez (28-25), Muir (33-14 ) Crespi (28-14), Alemany (27-7) all advance to 2nd round and must be pretty good.
Sometimes I just think random stuff.

    Notes on Amat

Yup folks, its time to serve up a big helping of humble pie. Ill take mine with vanilla ice cream thank you. I guess I always did like it ala mode….

Anyways, it looks as if baseball season has once again come a little bit early here for the Lancers. Three three years in a row…..But I guess its no surprise given the fact that if your team makes mistakes, and continually shoots themselves in the foot over and over again, your bound to be standing on the outside looking in.

I think perhaps one of the most interesting aspects of this entire game was the fact that so many of us were just sitting there waiting for these guys to fold.

Remember, they were suppose to have been the team that was going to be just a stepping stone on our way the the big dance.

But the football gods thought otherwise this evening eh ?

BTW, Amat didnt just lose tonight. Tesorro won, and they won by being efficient in there marches to the zone. They really really showed a resiliency that was extremely surprising given the fact that they weren’t even suppose to be competing on the same field with the mighty Lancers.

Oh sure, our defense made a few stops, but really, they could never quite slow them down. Even when they started a drive on their one foot line you just kinda felt that it was going to be one of those nights for the Lancers.

Anyway, ya got to hand it to them because they played an excellent game out there tonight and really took advantage of all of our miscues.

Congratulations to Tessoro, for a well earned victory….

Now give me a slice of that pie……..

  • AMAT CHOKES AGAIN!

AMAT AND AZUSA BOTH LOSE. YOU HEAR THAT? THE SOUND OF SILENCE FROM AMAT FANS. THERE IS NO BETTER THING. THIS BUDS FOR YOU NOTSINCE1995. SO AMAT FANS WHAT ABOUT ANOTHER PLAYOFF CHOKE?

  • Choke Artist

I agree Bishop’s secondary was bad. Tesoro’s running attack was shut down but once again the corners got beat. I’m tired of hearing how young their are and making excuses for them every game. Hey I got this ideal!!! Dont play them. I know there is some talent just watching from the sidelines. #30 has been getting toasted the past two weeks and continues to start. I know the coqches like him but come on the kid doesn’t have it and the film don’t lie. He needs to go back to runningback or J.V cause he is not cutting it. I’m starting to think his last name is McCutcheon and not Blue. And why was #1 on the bench for kickoff? Another dumb move. The coaches made some dumb moves and play calling the past few weeks.

  • big dawg

Fool’s Gold… That idiot should have realized a long time ago that the passing game never existed, its too late now, stupid ass!!!

I feel bad for the kids, not him, fire his ass!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Joey said I could be honest, lol

    An unsolicited unbiased view.

In my oopinion I’ve always been shocked by teh lack of team spirit by the student body at Amat. MOst of teh time teh kids just miggle and have their helds down texting or gabbing. Nothing like teh PIT at Damien where kids are part of teh cheering section and actually “engage” the otehr styudent body. At Amat, from what I see , it’s an Adult event. From teh tail gating to the cheering…it’s all so mcuh show for the players and less about the school. Hope that doesn’t offend anyone but that’s what I saw tonight. For long streches the Amat studnet body sat unattentive to teh game and the fans in teh stands sat numb. Hey it’s what I saw. Hey I sat across from teh Home stands amoung teh over flow Amat fans and NADA!!! Couln’t hear a thing from teh otehr side.

ANother thing taht seemed differnt tonight is Tesoro did what I’ve said teams needed to do to beat Amat…don’t be afraid of three and out, commit to running the ball and throw at the weakest part of teh team’s defensive strenght. I also that beating up 74 on defense would wear him down on offense, it did..although he played courageously.

Tonight Tesora was bigger, stronger, better conditioned and far more disciplined…especially on teh sidelines as Amat coaches continually yelled and walked on teh field to talk to refs while Tesoro coaches stayed composed. Great sideline ediquitte.

No series of plays illustrate dthis more than when Tesoro had first and ten at Amat’s 10 an dteh had second and 44 after a series of ridiculous calls..by my count five in a row. Did teh Tesoro coaches yell at teh refs or complain openly to each otehr,,,NO they stood calm.

Finally Rio is a stud for sure but that kid with the #1 jersey was sick, making one big catch after another.

In my estimation Amat won’t be as good next year. I know that sounds harsh but I don’t see them gettuing better than 9-0.

Was Tesoro teh betetr team, yes they were. Were they teh better team tonight..not necessarily. Rio doesn’t fumble at teh 1, Amat scores. Rio doesn’t try to do a Brett Farve and Tesoro doesn’t get a short field at teh worsat time. All in all I think Hags went Riverside Poly tonight ignoring the tell tales signs of coming apart and not going back to what made him formidable…running teh ball by sheer will.

In fact teh roles were reversed for Amat today as Tesoro made teh commitment to punching Amat in teh face and living to tell about it. No paly said that more than when #22 was run over at teh goal line after a violent hit and #22 came undone. Great courage on his part btw. .. tough kid that #22.

Tesoro out coached teh Amat coaches tonight, in areas Amat coaches haven’t comme undone beofre, while teh kids looked for teh famous 12th man taht never showed up. Sad really.

BTW you guys have teh best BBQ sandwiches and Ribs I’ve ever had. I’m going to miss them. Maybe a shout out to address of that fine establishment….like I’m starving, lol.

Best line of teh night…Garfield wants a do over!

    Too funny.

Amat had a weird experince this year, tehy bought into their own greatness…very Un-AMat.

Joey I hope thsi doesn’t starin our relationaship but even you have to agree AMat ain’t no Florida with their crowd contagious chants.

WHat happened to teh kids at Amat…maybe they got bored with their parents over doing it.

Mayeb soem day I’ll hear Amat rock like it did back in teh day,…tonight every one let teh players down.

    Hey that my opinion.

BTW I saw a “dead” friend tonight. Seems a former Amat coach told me last week a friend of ours had died…who do I see in teh stands…My DEAD Friend…it wa sthat kind of night.

Karma’s a wicked b8tch and it caught Amat by teh nuts tonight. Rio BTW is a FLAT OUT ATHLETE and Wallace Gonzalez, a long time favborite, needs to get it together and learn how to block and be whatever the team need shim to be…and in thsi case, THAT’S PLAY DEFENSE.

I can’t say thsi was a great season after seeing teh game tonight…what I can say is Amat has no business playing teh Garfield’s of the world.

  • big dawg

You guys fell in love with that stupid ass espn article and forgot what got you there, the running game, you ass!!!!!!!

  • Amat forever

    Big Dawg my ass
You are referring to Rio sacrificing a USA gold medal to shoulder the load of the team…Really! that this kid has not giving his heart to the school, gave every effort he had to help this team win, When the running game got smashed, he was there to move the chains, maybe he should also play Off. line, corner and safety…all at the same time, maybe because he was an all league reciever. he could throw and catch too! What the hell, why don’t he just coach and call all the play as well… You are just a bitter, bitter parent who’s son is probably a Sr and didn’t play (Tyler P?) what do you think Grandpa!…we all know your grandson is the best that never played…Your right about one thing Rio is a Brett Farve type…and the Amat family love him…Defense is the lone ingredient we didn’t have this year, we could not stop the 3rd and long, no matter what, no matter who it was all year long…Jalen did a great job, Rio was incredible all year, the recievers were awesome… the O Line…the best…how much better offensively are we with Shay…Defensive Line-Outstanding…Just had No shut down corners, man do I miss Darien Johnson
Suck it up Grandpa…your career is over!

  • GameDayatUSC

    First post ALL season.
As I sat silent, watchng, observing, listening, and attending games all season here is what I came away with:
Most know me from the past seasons
I stapped it up for AMAT from 79-82. I donate what I can afford when I get my letter each year. However I do not bleed blue, or have a window sticker, or a amat parent tee-shirt. I love AMAT, but I am NOT AFRAID to tell it like it is.
I went to five games, that began with the Muir game, then the Cathedral game, followed by Loyola and Crespi, and ended last night
    # 1
Were good, NOT GREAT! The talk on these blogs, by fans, students, some alumni, and the Trib’s very own writers, made AMAT out to be far better than they really were. Amat had trouble ALL season on “D” Their secondary was average at best. Our QB though VERY talented was un proven, and though we had had a very good back in Moore, he made alot of plays on his own.

    # 2
Transfers, Though AMAT has open boundries, it still gets it fair share of transfers. If anyone thinks that having to wait on Booth, and Gonzales, helped, then their wrong. To see if their eligialty issues didnt affect the team then your wrong. It puts a “clamp” so to speak on coaching. You put other kids in place who have known the system, then bam… get approval from CIF and throw in Gonzales. Now this kid had a good season, but his blocking was horrific. Was it coaching? Should he have been taught better, or because they had a beast go down the middle they let it slide. AMAT’s tradition is to have the best players AVAILABLE from the START! This means from SPRING ball. This is when you put thing into place that help in October, november. When you let transfers come flock in from late July your setting yourself up, and even with Amat’s history of being a “TEAM” it hurts the squad. Remember thees kids are still only 15, 16, 17 years old, and they talk amongst themselves.

    # 3 coaching.
Hard to argue our coaches as we have former college and NFL players, and they get the best from our kids. However again some not too good of play calling down the stretch of the season, and THEIR self disipline or lack there of speaks words which brings me to what is next.

    # 4 Disipline.
Tough to go agianst AMAT here, as they have beaten far better talented teams, becasue of disipline. But last night it was a perfect example of kids, and coaching being undisiplined along the sidelines. We can complain all we want about the refs at Alemany, but geez it looked like the staff last night was asking the refs out for a date. All over them on the sidelines, going onto the field. Trust me that disipline from the side line carries down to the players onto the field and between the hash marks. AMAT is better than that.

    Schedule
One of the MOST important issues in my opinion, and others who have played. Sure we all want to see us play Damien, or C.O, S.H and other usually top teams like WC this season. Sure our alumni, and local community wants a Garfield, and a Cathedral on our schedule, as its good for the families who have had siblings and cousins, uncles attend. I mean it was a must for my family to stop at Philipe’s before the Cathedral game and Olvera St. after. I mean we were all full, but who can turn down Olvera St when someone in the cars yells out ” I can eat two” But these teams do not and WILL NOT prepare you for the prize. Sure you can say “well we beat Dominguez” who only lost to us. My answer to that is ‘ yea so” their a DIV IV team we beat by less than a TD, and who Gardena Serra will hammer in the finals. Why do you think Diamond Ranch went to the finals three years in a row. You think their fans, coaching, and others cared about going 1-4 or 0-5 in non league. They were perpared for the tougher task ahead in CIF, and beat a more talented team in S.H team two years in a row.
AMAT needs to put Mater Dei, LB Poly, Servite, Los Alimitos, Centennial, Norco, Roosevelt, Vista Murrieta, Redlands Ev, BACK on the schedule. What AMAT did was go 6-0, then 9-0 and let us into thinking they were far better than advertised. Of course FRED here didn’t help with all his hype. When you schedule TOP programs regardless of one bad season or not, IT PREPARES you, mentally, and physically come Thanksgiving weekend. Beating up on Garfield, and Cathedral proves NOTHING, and us true fans and alumni know this. Sure you can blurt out ” But Cathedral was in CIF last year, and Venice HAS been good in the past, as has Muir. Thats just it, its the PAST! Northview, won a CIF ring, as did Covina and we hear nothing from them until. Their is a reason Centennial scheduled Mater Dei, and Crespi scheduled Vista Murrieta, and Mission Viejo, had Carson, and POLY had St Bonnies and Servite had Santa Margarita. SEE THE PICTURE here. Every team who HAD a TOUGH NON league game or two, is STILL ALIVE!!!!

    AMAT nation,
I am a good follower of the Lancers. I had a daughter play volleyball there. I get blasted sometimes cuz I type what I beleive. In other words I won’t sugar coat anything! We have the BEST fans, YET some of the worst bloggers. Some I have noticed on here probably NEVER laced up a pair of cleats, or are closet bloggers. Its easy to talk smack behind the screen. Most of our fans tell it like it is. Last night was a perfect example. I went with two other former players my age, and was near alot of former players, and knowlegeable fans. We knew we were in trouble in the third qtr, BUT we NEVER gave up hope. Its like we saw it coming especially in the secondary, and how we heard that Tesoro was too young and inexperienced. People forget that they were in the PAC 5 title game just three years ago, so they have talent. Now please don’t get me wrong, we have EXCELLENT bloggers here Joe AMAT, and others are very LOYAL, and VERY smart. Others are too who represent other schools, like SGV Football, and Aztec Pride. This is a great place to have fun and talk HS sports.
But in all honesty if ANYONE beleives that ANY other school could beat AMAT on with a four year home and home is sadly mistaken. Could WC do it this season. Maybe!, Chino Hills? Probably! But strap em up for a four year stretch, and they may win one, POSSIBLY two, but never will anyone walk away with a winning record.

Thanks for reading, and GOOD LUCK to WC, BONITA, COVINA, SAN DIMAS representing our littel pocket of our football community. Also good luck to the kids West of the 71 in Chino Hills.

  • GameDayatUSC

Joe Amat, SGV Football, and Aztec Pride, among many others

THANK YOU for a very good season of HS sports blogging. I am sorry that all three of your teams, ( mine included ) are done in CIF. But HOPEFULLY people in here understand and recognize your abilities as bloggers, with knowledge

    SGV football,

I have seen Centennial play. My nephew plays for Roosevelt, and Centennial uses a no huddle like Oregon. tough to stop, BUT worse is tougher to change players. I attended AMAT’s game last night, and will attend Roosevelts this week. Going to try a roating basis hoping both kept winning. Amat lost, so it looks like its Roosevelt now.

    THANX AGAIN GUYS!

  • OldMan in Chino

I attended the Chino Hills Corona football game last night or should I say basketball game based on the final score (70-42). It was like watching a WAC football game; all offense little to no defense. Good luck Huskies against Etiwanda, keep your offense and tighten up your defense and you should do well.

  • Did last night really happen?

DRANCH couldn’t stop the run game last night. Where was Chase Price? Only six SGV teams left? Wow.

  • Mike Robledo

Let me start by first congratulating Tesoro for advancing to 2nd round of Pac 5 playoffs… They were young and very fast defensively, and were not afraid beating Amat soundly on its home field, the first time since Hagerty’s return in 2008. Good luck next week vs Mater Dei @ home.

CO Bro: couldn’t agree more with your post on AZTEC PRIDE… well said!

Thanks to everyone last night on Coveritlive… over 1700 comments posted. In fact, the last four Amat games on Coveritlive all generated over 1000+ comments… Most comments for a non-Amat game was when we did West Covina vs Glendora in week 3… It will be interesting to see the number of comments for next week…

Let me be the first to lobby for Bonita @ Muir… cross coverage game and another road test for the Bearcats… what do you all think??

  • shfan

Why happened to Azusa? I said all year that they were overrated. They plated absolutely nobody an the first round of the playoffs they get eliminated. Hilarious.

  • Sd

    Give it a rest Aaron!

    What a punk!

  • just thinkin’

just play – 2 real teams? Seven teams on the schedule advanced to the 2nd round of the playoffs. Garfield (42-14), Venice (66-0) , Dominguez (28-25), Muir (33-14 ) Crespi (28-14), Alemany (27-7) Anyone else have 7 quarterfinalists on their schedule? The teams that didn’t make the playoffs Damien, Loyola, Notre Dame, and Cathedral would be “step up games’ for everyone else in the valley!

GameDay – don’t 100% agree it was the schedule (woulda looked different with Bonnies on there) – but rest of your post was pretty on point

Choke Artist – which DB on the sidelines was your son? Pretty certain a 9yr NFL DB can make the call on who should be playing?

AMAT CHOKES – It’s 1:30 in the AM and you’re worried about the sound of silence from Amat? That’s cuz normal people are sleeping and you’re blogging alone at 1:30 AM. This AM they’re laughing at you!

Azusa, Arroyo, Baldwin Park, Bishop Amat, Charter Oak, Claremont, Damien, Diamond Ranch, Glendora, South Hills, and Walnut all at home on Thanksgiving. Joining Long BEach Poly, Edison, Los Alamitos and ONE-HALF the teams that were in the playoffs puts you in ok company

  • SaintsR4real

    AZTEC PRIDEn
How you like that “POEM” now??!! Jk lol The higher your held, the harder you fall :)

SD John; dude, e gotta get pass Maranatha and Monrovia first b4 we can make big predictions like that. Great support though!!

  • The Truth

Can you say “AZUSA OVERRATED” Too all the weak Aztec fans, nut up and take it. Your team was living on borrowed time. It was only a matter of time before they were exposed for the frauds they were. At least you can say you won the montview hahaha/

  • Friday Lights

My thoughts of Amat losing. One thing that’s evident is that just because you played D1 college football or played in the pros doesnt mean your a good coach. McCuctheon and Sermons do they coach for the team or their ego’s? Rodney taking Sanchez off kickoff return then putting him back in for the last kickoff because now you need a good return. Sanchez should have to you to stick your kickoff return where the sun don’t shine. But no like a good Lancer he went to help his team. You made coaching blunders like that all year but Moore made you look like you knew what you were doing. Daylon why is your secondary the weakest part of our defense? Why did did you destroy the confidence of our two young corners. We know you recruited Blue but Montes should have been the guy. You put him on Lucien all night and then yanked him the first time he got beat after locking him down most of the night. It would have been nice to have Shay we were Too predictable. teams had enough film on us and we were really 2 dimensional run or. Throw to Wallace. Last night a lot of things caught up with us.

  • Classless

For all the people that are coming on here and calling Azusa frauds and overrated, have more class and understand that these kids are hurting right now. The last thing they need are people ripping on them on an online forum.
Secondly, I wouldn’t judge the Azusa faithful by the moron who is posting several times on here to fire Scherf, cuz I guarantee you it’s just one guy posting under several different names. The same guy who shouted out after the game “don’t work guys, it’s not your fault, its the coached.” He’s just an A-hole.
Lastly, the fake punt at the end of the game was a gutsy move, and it obviously didn’t pay off. I for one liked the move, and appreciate the fact that our coach was willing to play to win, and not just play for overtime. Granted, it didn’t pay off, but I like the call none-the-less. Most coaches wouldn’t have the guts to make that call. I understand why some people are unhappy about it, but remember before Scherf took over, the fans were always frustrated with the lack of gutsiness in the playcalling.
All in all, it was a great season and we’ll have lots of great memories. It sucks that it’s over, but I’m proud of these boys no matter what.

    Go Aztecs!

  • kh

for 1-2- 3- three strikes amats out at the olddddd balllll gameeee.
    fred fred fred
you missed my mvp k.c. all area player of the year K.C. HUTH double reverse 47 yard bomb pass to garrett horine t.d. pass ,plus 3 more sacks freddy on defense.
you must of missed this kid from 10-1 bonita bearcats on your pre-season all areas team.
your too narrow minded with amat little picture, boy you got a woodie when w/c/ beat the bearcats.
dont forget 8 times in the red only 6 points.
    8×7= 56 + our 21 =76 to 50 bonita
that could of happened if we scored every time in the red zone.
we our right where we want to be going on the road to pasadena, get ready bothers we are coming
    with all everything we have.
fred now you can do some real work, can we have some stats on area players and who some of your player of the year boys.
dont forget player of the year should be should what a player dose for the team to help his team win a cif championship not just a short run,and get blowin out first round again, maybe you should ask all the coaches who they think then put your homer boy in,just a thaught,
    go bearcats.

  • bobbb

I would really like to read about the Santa Fe -
Burbank game. Didn’t see a thing in the Trib. I did see Bonita beating Santa Fe by 1 point early in the season

  • threat

Azusa was not a number one but more like a number three in the Midvalley. I know that Cif can screw you over but you still have to come out play, and to hear a coach complaining after the game to me is a little sad. Arroyo got screwed but the coach makes no excuses for his loss. All that I know is that Rosemeads running back tore it up last night and I was looking foward to seening a them play the Aztecs. Go Panthers and good luck!

  • ass tek pride

azusa hhhhaaaaaaaa hhaaaaaa hhaaaaaaa. lol lmfao lmfao what happened azusa?

  • The Truth

To the Azusa Coach and Fans, If you want to win in the playoffs you have to compete against playoff caliber teams in your preseason. This happens to many teams around the country. You had all the talent but they were never tested by their opponents. Stop thinking small football is much better in other parts of california. Try scheduling some OC & San Diego teams in your preason.

  • Bronco Nation

SGV Football wrote that he was not impressed with Vista Murrieta. Well an unimpressive Vista Murrieta Broncos team beat CO by three touchdowns. Yes, it should have been by 5 touchdowns. Yes, there were mistakes and stupid penalties but it was obvious that CO was way outmatched in that game. With that said, CO has some very promising players and a monster O line. I do think their size eventually caught up with them though. The speed of VM’s D line just wore them down. And VM’s Special Teams was just awesome again….
As for the young man who had the “Level One” melt down, what was up with that? Where were the coaches? A CO coach should have grabbed him and yanked him off the field instead of just letting him gather two or three penalties in one shot? I have never seen anything like that before…
    Go Broncos! Beat Norco!

    Aztec Pride and Amat Nation,

We’re all wearing it today. I’m getting grief all over the place for my picks. You guys are hearing it for your team’s early exits. Don’t let it get to you.

Amat and Azusa had great seasons. They disappointed last night, but there’s nothing to hang your heads about. As I’ve said before, if it was so easy to go 10-0/9-1, everybody would be doing it. You guys took your fans on a great ride. Be proud.

Like Freddie said last night in our video, “it’s sports.” These things happen.

  • Check the stats

I like how KH comes on here talkin Smack when they draw a first round game that had a recored of 3-7! Come on KH, CALIFORNIA? really?

  • saints fan

it seem while everyone was focused on azusa winning the whole cif but san dimas simply proved that they are the champs and they are here to stay ..

  • What Game Was He Watching

I guess according to the Tribunes so called Correspondent Nathan Cambridge if you lose by 13 your no match for the mighty Maranatha Minutemen.
Hey Nathan you Minuteman honk next time watch the damn game. Or were you over at the Valley Hunt Club sipping tea and pondering how many equestrian units should be in the Rose Parade this year and just phoned it in. If I were you Nathan I would have been over at the Elks Lodge drinking a few beers just because you beat the second place Montview league finisher by only thirteen. Yes Nathan thats right ONLY THIRTEEN!
The La Puente Warriors had your boys in a panic Mr. Cambridge and it showed by the action of your coaching staff, the players on the field and the loud mouths in the stands on your side of the field. (And all this time I thought the Wilson fans and players had big mouth’s)
Great jobs Warriors you have the respect of the faithful and not some Maranatha blow hard making a outrageous headlines that makes it sound like you guys were never in it.
Thanks Warriors for another great season you guys have nothing to be ashamed about. You showed more class than the so called Christian school you played last night did.

I take it that this is a big relief for you. Now you don’t have to worry about the team that beat you. Yep, that Azusa team. Head to head!!!!!!!!!

  • It was a good season

    Clap, Clap, Clap.

The Bishop Amat Football players did an excellent job this year. They started off strong, but were down in the end.

Thank you Amat players for all the hard work you guys did this year.

A couple things I noticed as attended all 11 games this year.

    1. Momentum, Amat lost the momentum with that bye week. I truly believe if Amat had a week 9 game we would be singing a different tune right now. They had great momentum as they headed into week 9, but somehow they lost it. By losing that momentum they lost the identity of the team.

    2. The DB’s DID NOT get burned the whole year. But they were definitely exploited the last couple of games. Time and time again they got burned. On crucial big downs they let down their teammates. I’m no expert, but its not like they don’t have talent, it just seems like they play off their talent more than have any technique. I mean you know they are young, but how do they constantly give up the big play? Where is McCutcheon and all his coaching expertise. It was obvious that the DB’s was the defenses weakness, where were his adjustments? How can a DB miss a tackle on a 5 yard stop. How do they give up the 3rd long over and over again? Don’t get me wrong the DB’s have talent but they didn’t live up to it. Well, one might argue they have no Johnson or price, well that’s coaching the player and adjusting to their level of talent.

    3. Mistakes: The last two games, Amat did not know how to deal with mistakes. I mean you have what 6 to 8 Turnovers in two games. You are not going to win if you have those many turnovers.

Tesoro is a very well coached team, but the bottom line is AMAT shot themselves in the foot these last two games. They did not have the swagger, the confidence like they had the first 9 nine games.

I think Amat did an excellent job this year. But they should be playing Mater Dei next week in the OC. We should be tailgating with our thousands mile club buses. But we are not. Though they fell short of expectations, I feel this will be a big learning curve for the players and hopefully all the coaches that next year will not be any easier and they must prepare twice as hard for next year.

Take care Seniors we salute your four years of hard work.

  • http://yahoo.com LPHS Alum

Typical of the Tribune. I have lived in the San Gabirel Valley for 50 years and have never been as disappointed in my newspaper as I am right now. Reading Mr. Cambridges headline (La Puente no match for Marantha) I expected to read that the Warriors of LaPuents were ripped apart in the game last night. Then to actually read the story and find out that LP only lost by less than a touchdown, I was more than surprised. How do you state that a team was “no match” when they have a running back that gains over 100 yards and yes, lose but by only 13. This is typical of the coverage by the Tribune in regards to the Warriors. They are all over Amat and Glendora but slight the Warriors every chance they get. Never any credit for these boys, who put on their pads just like the “charmed” players from those other schools. Mr. Cambridge should be disciplined for not doing his job or for being incompetent. It is obvious he either didn’t watch the game or doesn’t know what he is doing. The Tribune should be ashamed of this kind of coverage and they should rectify this type of biased or incompetent coverage.

  • MVL Hoops

In regards to the illegal forward pass on the final play of the Arroyo-San Dimas game. Whether it was a forward pass or not is debatable, but shouldn’t Arroyo have had another play? Since the result of the play in question was a TD, San Dimas had to accept the penalty, which should have been marked off and Arroyo should have been able to run 1 last play. Why did the officials just signal the penalty and leave the field? Obviously, if the play had not been a TD, San Dimas would just decline the penalty and the game would be over. But since Arroyo scored, they had to accept the penalty, which should have been enforced and Arroyo should have had one last play.

  • fb102

    Ok,

The ‘fake’ punt at the Amat game was NOT called by the coaching staff. More of an on the field player improvization.

Punter PANICKED[yes PANICKED] when punting and DECIDED to go for the 1st down. The punts for Amat the rest of the game were not so hot.

Think about it: 4th & 10 + 15 yards behind the LOS on the snap, a 25 yard play needed for the first down. NO coaching staff would call for a suicide play like that. The rest of the team was not prepared/blocking for a fake.

The coaches were LIVID as the punter came off the field.

1st game altering play of the game for the Lancers.

  • Ro

damn, how everyone has to put down a 16 year old kid like Rio.this was his first varsity season against great opponents ,people have bad games, just look at some of the games some great pros have, they have great days and alot of bad games, does that make them horrible quarterbacks. Amat is still a great program but I dont see them winning any cif championships in the near future. Orange county just has to much talent and size over us in the san gabriel valley. west covina will win this year because they are a great sgv team who does not have to play any good teams in c.i.f, look how close walnut played La Serna and that is the second seeded team. You cannot say the amat schedule was weak, just look at the teams that are still playing that amat beat.they will be just as good next year but not good enough to compete in the O.C

  • just sayin’

fb102 – for what it’s worth I stayed at the tailgate too long and ended up in the Amat overflow on the visitors side. I had a great view of the fake punt and it appeared their was miles of room to take off. good decision or not it was clearly not a panic situation but a feeling he could gain that yardage. needless to say – Tesoro pursuit prevented that – but I could see what WG saw & understood teh thinking

  • Rule

@ MVL Hoops: A game cannot end on a DEFENSIVE Penalty. The illegal forward pass is an offensive penalty, therefore game over. As for the call, Coach Singiser confirmed that it was the proper call.

  • Dennis Reynolds

Hey kh, are you already toasted at 9:12 am ?

I like to think so, because NOBODY writes this badly.

In the red zone eight times vs the Dawgs and the Bearcats could not score? Could it be the West Covina defense?

Something to think about,if your not passed out by the time this is posted.

  • Born and Raised SGV

    c crowasPO@yahoo.com,

Big relief from what? Everyone outside Azusa and the umpa lumpa repoter knew you guys were not legit.

You had the number one seed and still could not get out of the first round.

Colts were praying to meet Azusa but we knew outside the Montview, you could not do it…let me guess, you have a great excuse to why you lost. How sad is that a team wins three league titles in a row and the only respect comes from Taco Bell.

As far as the team that you beat? Are you talking about the stacked team of Frosh two years ago and the stacked team of soph’s last year? Wow, very impressive.. you should schedule up just for that alone. Since you want to talk about history, talk about all the games and the final scores.

  • SGV Coach

Congratulations to all the Amat players, coaches and fans! You can never blame Amat for not giving their all. Last night, the players, the coaches and the fans gave everything they could to win that game. The game was lost but the Amat spirit was not. They lost the game because the team didn’t have enough variables to win.

Coach Hagerty and the rest of the staff have done a great job for three years now and have continued to work at developing all the players. These men were not only great former players, but are also really good men who care about Amat and the players as well. They have a great task in continuing the Amat tradition so that in 20 years from now, the Amat spirit will still be strong.

The fans were incredible last night, and if Amat would have won the game, then my vote would have been to give the fans the game ball! They were positive when the team was down and were humble at the end of the game. I really appreciated how they clapped for the team as they walked off the field for the last time this season. Very touching!

For those that may have sour grapes, I hope you can look at the big picture. It is an invaluable experience to just be on an Amat team. The values learned and the many important moments experienced on and off the field will continue to effect them for the rest of their lives. Getting on the field is important, but learning a valuable life lesson is critical. Amat wins as a team and loses as a team. And, Amat is family!

#1, you play like you are 6′ 5″, what a huge heart! I would have loved to coach you. #54, your jersey may not hang in the hall of fame, but you will not be forgotten for a long time. #9, I could not be more impressed with you. You have more class than most professional athletes and your maturity is remarkable. I love the statement you made in the article this morning, …”YET!” Every great athlete goes through what you are going through this morning, but being the competitor that you are, you will use this to fuel your future endeavors. All I can say is watch out to anyone who gets in your way from now on. You can’t grow without growing pains! # 28, the past, as much as the present, Amat followers love to watch you play…thank you for your hard work! To the rest of the team, as the saying goes, “Amat players play great!” Thank you for that! What a great game last night, yes mistakes were made, but it was a great game. Also, what a great season! Thank you!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Colt74

It’s Sat morning and what did I learn last night…
    1. Amat and Azusa are still winners despite the final scores.
    2. San Dimas realizes that in a 100 yard football field sometimes 1 foot is all that is needed. Props to the Saints for moving on.
    3. Covina is moving on even though they were not even picked to finish above 3rd in the VVL.
    4. I learned first hand how much class Mrs McDonough has at the Covina game last night. We were talking and found out who each other was and laughed and had a great time. I learned just how involved she is and has been in the lives and development of current and future Colts. This Lady knows football and IS without a doubt Colt Fan #1.
    5. 7 plays and 7-0 Colts.
    6. 2 minutes and 54 seconds into 3rd and the starters were out.
    7. Covina deserved to be the Mid-Valley Number 1
    8. More and more people will come out of the woodwork now to get on OUR train.
    9. Our next train stop is in Whittier.
    10. Just when I think that I could not be prouder to be a Colt another friday night comes along and I’m proven wrong. GO COLTS!

  • smallcity

I was at the game last night. I’ve said it a dozen times. Teams that are +2 in turnovers win about 80% of the time. Amat just couldn’t hold on to the ball. Tesoro came out and played hard. They are going to be a top 3 PAC-5 team in a year or two. Congratulations to them.

This is high school football. So why are we calling players out? I’ve never believed in calling out a high school player that plays for the love of football. Nor do I believe in calling out a college player. When is the last time you heard one of these guys go on and on about how bitchin’ they were? It doesn’t happen. You want to call someone out? How about a multi-million dollar pro player that can’t keep his mouth shut and justs goes on and on about what a gift he is to football. It happens all the time.

Amat should be returning most of the skill position players. Unless they pick up a talented QB transfer (highly doubtful), they will definately need Rio back. If they can pick up a few lineman, they will be in great shape. Hags and crew have always made the best of what they have. No shame in a 9 and 2 record.

At the risk of beating a dead horse, my son told me that Amat had put some sort of compost on the field after it had flooded and was trying frantically to dry the field.

Bonita, Covina, San Dimas and West Covina, good luck to you. You are all very talented teams.

To the man and women behind me, it’s amazing to me how you didn’t have the common sense to stay off the cell phone while the national anthem was being played. Yet, that wasn’t enough. You had talk to each other during the prayer while EVERYONE else around you was respectful. If any of you were in this section you know who I am. I couldn’t take it anymore and I let them know. Kudos to 99.9% of the fans who showed respect to our God, nation and BOTH teams.

Amat, I really enjoyed watching you play this past year. Seniors, thanks for the memories. I recall going to many of your freshmen games, the Orange Lutheran game in particular. They were HUGE and quite a good team. According to many of the OL parents, you had no business making a game out of it, but you did because of your drive and passion; drive and passion that has been there all these years. Good luck to you in all you do in life.

aztec pride you’re a joke with no loyalty, If you are who you said you were a couple weeks ago and are Steve Arceo,s father. remember where you were from “GLADSTONE HIGH”. but also know this, we don’t want you back Benedict…….Traders,Liars, and Cheaters we don’t like and you’ve become all three”.

    AZTEC PRIDES RESPONSE BACK;

LETS GET SOMETHING RIGHT HERE! (Listen Cmon Man), and let me tell you a little something about AZTEC PRIDE! First of all when you make several statements like that, you better have your FACTS STRAIGHT!! I know with losing, a lot of BAD EMOTIONS come out, and thats putting it lightly! I want to apologize to anybody who was at that game, if I said ANYTHING offensive! Im trying to replay the game back in my head and I quite cant figure out why you threw me underneath the bus!

Im going to say this and I mean this from the HEART! Where in my last post ,do you see where Im being disrespectful to Coach Scherf??? PLEEEEEASE, let me know WHERE! My last post questioned certain play calling only!!! And get that right!! WHEN YOU ATTEND A FOOTBALL GAME, DO YOU MEAN TO TELL ME, THAT YOU NEVER HEAR FANS COMPLAINING ABOUT CERTAIN CALLS? WITH THE GAME OF FOOTBALL , COMES ALL THESE OTHER TANGIBLES WITH IT!

I hold the HIGHEST RESPECT FOR COACH SCHERF AND ALL THE AZUSA COACHES! NO WHERE DO YOU SEE IM SAYING ANYTHING BAD ABOUT HIM. BY THE WAY WHOEVER YOU ARE, I GO BY AZTEC PRIDE, and please dont mix me up with these other AZUSA FANS! When you come on here and disgrace your head coach, well your not making it any better and I call it CHUM, you know the stuff they throw over the boat to attract the fish. But also beware SHARKS come circling around also, kind of like this blog because now you have all these HATERS laughing at us now!

By the way you called me a joke and questioned my loyalty; THAT (Cmon Man) is an insult, and if I had a GLOVE IN MY HAND, I WOULD SLAP YOU, like they did in the good days! LOL You know I read your post this morning and it LITERLLAY PISSED me off more then LOSING last night! LOYALTY!!! WHAT THE HELL, Ive been on here for about 4 years, pumping up AZUSA and Coach Scherf, and you have the NERVE to mentioned MY LOYALTY! WOW THAT IS A LOW BLOW!

Ive been attending AZUSA events for quite sometime now, supporting in anyway I can. I believe there wasnt one time I could not attend either my Sons, or daughters events and supported any promotional event! So DONT tell me about LOYALTY! Did you hear me CHEERING LIKE A FREAKING MAD MAN? Trying to pump the team up? Im sure you did, and that is called loyalty, and BY THE WAY, YOU NEVER HEARD ME SAYING ANYTHING BAD ABOUT COACH SCHERF, HELL, I WAS SITTING RIGHT NEXT TO HIS MOTHER and family! Im deciphering your post and trying to address your message line by line.

By the way are you a woman? Because the last part sounds very (SENSITIVE)? Okay let me get back on track and you mentioned that I came from GLADSTONE? Hell, is that suppose to be some type of TOP SECRET THING ABOUT ME?? LOL… Because thats out their, and who gives a RAT AZZ about that anyways. Ill go a little further and say, my oldest daughter graduated from Gladstone, and when she played volleyball for Gladstone, AND WHEN THEY PLAYED AGAINST AZUSA, YES, I CHEERED FOR GLADSTONE to win! Do you think anybody cares, or remembers that, and ask me if I care!

Come on you know the area we live in , half of AZUSA goes to Gladstone and the other half go to AZUSA! Whats the big deal about that. My son and daughter wanted to go to AZUSA and thats were they went! By the way Im glad my son choose to go to AZUSA, because he had a great time playing for AZUSA, and also met a lot of GREAT PEOPLE!

Okay Im almost finished and I know some of you naysayers are saying please SHUT UP AZTEC PRIDE!LOL Im sorry folks but this PERSON REALLY GOT UNDERNEATH MY SKIN, BY MAKING (FALSE ACCUSATIONS) about me, and that is NOT COOL!!!

BENEDICT ARNOLD??? LOL WOW, what is that!!! I mean youre trying to make me out, like Im kind of a SPY for Gladstone , and i went over to the VILLAGE CHRISTIAN side and gave them AZUSAS game plan! Now that is funny! By the way, my son has been gone for TWO SEASONS now and Im still HOLLERING LIKE A FOOL at the GAME! Why do I still attend the Games, because I was proud and LOYAL to the AZUSA AZTECS!

So if you dont want me around at the games, do me a favor and come tell me personally and who the HELL are you to tell me that!

Coach Scherf, thank you for all youve done, I personally think you still should be the COACH OF THE YEAR! I have the HIGHEST RESPECT FOR YOU, AND I know you will rebound from this! Coaching is a tough job people, and if you think you can do a better job, GO BY A WHISTLE AND CLIPBOARD AND (GO ADD IT)!

WHEN YOURE WINNING,YOURE THE GREATEST THING ON THIS PLANET, BUT WHEN YOURE LOSING OR LOSE, WELL YOU KNOW AND THATS LIFE!

AZUSA lets quit with all the (CHUM REMARKS) about our HEAD COACH, because he truly is a VERY GOOD COACH AND MENTOR!

    AZUSAS BIGGEST FAN,
    AZTEC PRIDE!

  • Amat 76

Great season Amat. Turnover at the one yard line 7 Points, fake punt run by Wallace 7 points and the inability to stop Tesero on 3rd downs was the key for the loss 7 points. I have been going to Amat games since the Haden/ McKay years. What the team is really missing in order to get to the next level is a animal on the DL. ie Ron Brown early 80′s player played DL and was always in the backfield. He played for the Oakland Raiders, A Kory Minor type. You need a player of this caliber to cause havoc in the backfield. A corner can only do so much. Amazing stat for succesful teams in in the NFL 1. turnover ratio and 2. 3rd down conversions. Look it up. Reason why we lost last two games. Correct these we win.

  • BOHI Fan

KH I was there and I saw your so called mvp get de-clieted at least 6 times. Being on your back is NO place for a player of year especially against a terrible team like Cal.
Your boy has no idea how to play linebacker he runs around undiscipline and misses way to may tackles. Yes on occassion he make a good play because he does have a good motor and he keeps it running. Even a blind squirle finds a nut once in awhile.
But like baseball you completely over value his worth.
Bonita just doesn’t have the defense to make it to the finals.

  • It takes a Valley…. NOT

This entire H.S. Football Season we have been subject to all the Myopic Bishop Amat Fans telling everyone else that the rest of us suck. We have been told by so-called sports journalist that their Q.B. is the next Pat Haden. We have been told that nothing compares to Bishop Amat Football. Maybe the B.A. players and the coaches were reading about just how awsome they are in this blog by their fans, and they got caught sleeping by a team where the myopia was in check. For the rest of us who’s kids play at the local PUBLIC High School will just continue to march on and realize that some years we will be hot and some years we won’t. How many communities did it take to build a Bishop Amat Football Team? It took a Valley and the Valley just lost in the first round. Congratulations to West Cov., Bonita, San Dimas & Covina – just remember our Cities can be proud of how are Home Grown Talent performs.

    hey reynolds wrap.
havent touch brooze bro now for over 1 year and 2 months huh.

maybe you dennis r was right i watched k.c. after the w/c game and he didnt shake every bulldaggs hands,
he did find the qb went straight up to him and give him a hug.
    thats respect.
if you read thru all of it,its because he didnt except losing,
    which in our house rules.
he didnt say a word about w/c after the game,
    thats respect for the bulldoggs.
but next game he stuck walnuts best player, all 6-6″ send him packing with medical squad to the side line,3 more sacks last night,d-r-
i know my son, more quit he gets, you better watch out, cant wait tell we kick your butts next time we me.
for now muir on the plate,
i tell you one thing k.c. will not let let even his teammate get out of realm,
hes the leader and all the coaches know his,
we had some things come up in house handle in house, like i said k.c. in the zone right now.
got a call from his old coach, today, hes will always remember k.c. 10 year old season with the glendora youth football.
k.c. came home and told me he was on the kick off team,
no way, i said tomorrow, ask coach to put your against the biggest kid on the team during tackle drills.
well coach h-rod did,put k.c. against big chad ,chad played mlb for glendora now at sdst,
k.c. hit chad with every thing he had, bang what a impact,
henry jumped straight up in the air and high five k.c. hes been a linebracker ever since.
raise them to win, guess what happens.
    they wont except losing.
    go bearcats

Dennis Reynolds the hater is back! Hay Dennis, if you have nothing better to do than ride kh, I and the rest of the Blogosphere feel real sorry for you! Ass.
Every time I come on here all I see is how great Amat is, along with all the pictures and videos, and then of course your silly ass!
I was there when WC rolled over us, it was a good solid beating, and I was the one Don was talking about how good WC is and the class football program you have, then the overrated chant started! And now here you are!
kc, had a great game last night as did a lot of Bearcats, and now youre your comment, Hey kh, are you already toasted at 9:12 am comes along as classless as the Name; Dennis Reynolds!
Dennis Reynolds, you are the perennial Bad Apple thats why people just call you, Ass!
Good by Denise Reynolds, your husband must be so proud.
    Go Bearcats!

  • jmcdonough

Aztec pride, Joe Amat, Rio Ruiz,

Welcome to my world!!!!! Please don’t let any of these hater comments ever affect you. Azusa deserves respect for there seasons success. You only lost by a touchdown, they act like you got killed out there…what a joke! Hold your head up boys. They use to criticize my son and his team tghe exact same way. And now 4 years later they can’t deny how good they were. You boys did great and there are many of us out here that are proud and respect you. Don’t let this loss let you lose sight of your great season accomplishment.
Joe Amat. You have every right to sing all the priases you want about your teams accomplishments. They are truely the SGVS elite. Noone knows how tough Tesoro is but I do Mikey played them in the semifinals his jr year and battled them with two broken collarbones until the end to lose. Tesoro called him over to their side of the feild and gave him a standing ovation. That game locked in poy for him. But they were tough as hell and went d1 the next season slowly climbing there way up in that division as well. God forbid I mention mikey… now witness all the sh…..talking I’m going to have to endure after this post…watch stand by and watch.
Aztec pride I just want to say that I have never heard you post any negaive comments against any other team and have always conducted your posts wih class. So you supported your team your their fan….what are you suppose to do??????? I don’t get these haters there so ignorant.
    Rio,
You of all should never listen to any of these comments. You are a junior in the hardest division of all. No quarterback in the valley has to wear your shoes. You are the only one. To even be competing in the same realm with mission viejo. With past qtrbacks like leinart and mark sanchez should give you a good indication of where you stand. How can any of you put this kid down he is a great athlete both in baseball and football, how many of you can say that about yourselves or your kid. Not even I can. Why don’t all of. You stop with the insults and the hahahahas. For god sakes were you guys bullies in school. You are talking about kids and teams that represent the sgv. You and me. If your kid is not out their representing. The sgv, or you yourself. have not accomplished something higher for SGV Football then you have some freaking nerve. Until you do then open your mouths with all your vomit and. Maybe we will listen….again then maybe you would be the one being persecuted for your talent.
    Jmcd

    To all at Amat,
It has been another great ride, so many wonderful memories! As we all stood in unisom, and watched our boys walk thru those doors for the last time tonite, I thought of all the things we did as a group of parents and friends… Tailgating to new hieghts… Charter bus rides… Great team meals every thursday… The Dad’s club of wednesday nite… Yesidro and his churro’s… Chalk talks… Tailgating!!!

Never have I been part of something so powerful, yet full of love, dignity, class, respect and most important resilience! I am not only proud to be a member of the “AMAT FAMILY” I am truly blessed!!!

See you all at the banquet!!!

    ON BLUE!!!

  • reality

Amat fans have little to look forward to. Under Hagerty-Koelle coaching, the freshmen team this year and last year LOST EVERY LEAGUE GAME- and they blamed everyone but themselves. Poor leadership from the top down…..

  • Myopia is in the Mirror

It takes a Valley…. – no where do Amat fans say anyone else sucks. At least certainly no more than the rest of the myopic SGV says Amat sucks. Neither are true. What is true, whether you like to admit it or not, is when Amat lines up with someone else from the SGV a vast majority of the time – Amat wins. What is true, is the teams they must face in the playoffs are way different than the teams other SGV schools face in the payoffs. Logic says then there is then a greater chance that they will lose than had they faced someone else. That’s exactly what the Amat fans say and when someone comes in saying they are better on the basis they beat a Bellflower, Arroyo, or a CalHi when Amat has to face a Long Beach Poly, Lakewood, or Tesoro that shows how ignorant that person is when it comes to high school football.
And they’re 100% right when they say “that nothing compares to Bishop Amat Football”

Hey AMAT, dont be sad, Garfield is still playing!

  • Amat69

Great season Guys. We fell a little short, life goes on. I think we could have used Jay Anderson especially last night, but his priority is baseball. I personally think we had to big of a target on our backs and we seemed too full of ourselves at times. 80% of the football coverage had to do with Amat, I think thats unfair to the other schools and puts us in a position to fail on a bigger stage.
Good luck to all the SGV teams still in the hunt.

  • 12th man

I was told a numerous amount of times thruout the week that Rio would never go in & play defense, by all the Amat bloggers!! Hugh..~ goes to show how much you really know about the game!! Turns out.. coach Hags actually put Rio in on defense rite before halftime for three plays~..His only mistake was not putting him back in for the 3rd & 4th qt..just goes to show that sometimes you can get a better prespective on things from a person who has no ties to the school & tells it like it is!…Im glad someone was reading or relaying the message to Hags!~..It was just a little too late!!~

  • Aaron

I bleed Green, Black, and White. The Bearcats are doing something special. However, I would be ignorant and lying to you if I said we would steam roll the Muir Mustangs. We may just do that but it will be because everyone played lights out, Muir is talented, they have big bodies. They might be healthy, but playing La Mirada isn’t something to taken lightly.

Muir has no depth. That is a fact I spent a good amount of time watching Muir over the summer like I did more than a few schools, Muir won the Consolation bracket at the Wolfpack Challenge. If they are healthy they will be challenging, and even if they are not healthy they still cannot be taken lightly. Something that will help the Bearcats is they just played a good line in Cal, that’s the one thing I could tell off of film they had was good lines.

The Bearcats will be ready to continue the march, one game at a time!

  • Joey say ” i ” could be honest

    continued unsolicited and unbiased comments

WG needs to play DL. SIMPLE AS THAT…always has been and issue. I have always been a huge supportor of his so this isn’t an attck just a fact. I played Qb and safety and when the speed got teh btter of me I played OL. Tough as hell to move from QB/Safety to OL but at 5’11 173 lbs I did it becuase that’s where I had to be. Damein had a player a few years ago, Travis E. who was 6’1 and 1905 and all he played was the slot. He should ahve played Defense but whas a specialist. Apparently WG is as weel. Big time mistake. Is that coaching, attitude or something else …eiether way what good is it to be 6’5″245 lbs and play TE without blocking aggressiveness, play a diversion at teh wide out or hope you over whelm shorter DB four times a game? Completely inexcusable. Beside it might help him stretch out those tight hammie of his.

second point, Aztec Pride…don’t give it a second thought. You’ve made the BIG TIME when you have stalkers…I have 2,399 and counting…and I’m still here. lol. Besides teh only thing that matetrs is what people say to your face. I know thsi stalker friend of mine uses the small “i” when he writes like I use “TEH”…been doing it four $ years at least. Taht’s why I could care less about my speling or whatever…I make a point and live with the staklkers. Like they “played”, bsides teh two stalkers I know about have rotten kids…opps they’re both Middle Class so they have kids who haven’t found themslevs yet…lol.

Colt 74 ABSOLUTELY RIGHT ABOUT jUDY…what a mather hen to so many kids who play teh game we love. Still I wouldn’t wnat to be the “wannbe” man who confronts here in person. Talk about a Football Mom, great individual.

Now about the AZTEC naysayers…any one think…follow me here…that for $ long years it’s Aztec Pride and just about no one else. Suddenly the Aztecs have 300 bloggers ALL CRITICAL OF SCHERF …Com’On folks (pun intended) we’re all smarter than that. Liek so many bloggers without a team in teh playoffs (Damein was outpointed) I went to see a game…Mat was closer than Citrus…so Amat it was.

(Do some figuring here…who is a know sht talker without a team in the playoffs who usues teh “i” as his signature and LOVES to fck with people and NEVER PALYED A DOWN OF FOOTBALL…)

Last point about winning and losing in the play off. Sometimes a coach is over matched and sometimes a team just doesn’t match up..eiether way someoen has to lose. In Amat’s case they ran into a bad dream, a team with composure and a self destructing night. Would playing Carson, Santa Margarita nd otehr have helped? WHo knows. Would going into teh play offs like Mater Dei did help? Probably. The final analysis is for AMat’s big wigs to figure out..but here’s my two pesos.

AMat can not win it all by going down teh road they are going…i.e. transfers, recruiting and taking in seniors. Amat, as has always been it’s way is about 100% commiment and that starts as Freshmen.

Cas ein point, Cathedral hasd a rent a player (my term) in Ryan Longoria..he was tough on Offense and avergae at best on defense…why? Defense is about herat, commitment and the BAND OF BROTHERS. It’s about pulling together and sweeating and growing up as one. That doesn’t coem in two months.

One day I was watching him afetr a tough game when Cathedral agve all it had and came up short..as the Phantoms sang teh Alma Mater to their fans he stood in teh back and looked around…out of place. Now what does that say?

SWometiems a player liek Mc BVride and Wells make tehir mark at a new school but most of teh tiem, at least in Amat’s cases..they bring taht PRIDE iwth them learned at Amat.

I don’t know how many transfers they have but this talk about gettuing in a QB or more oL is disturbing. Teh best player last night was # 1. He’s short, he’s light, he’s junk yrad tough..is he a transfer?

Great job AMat but I’ve never been a fan of teh new mentality at Mat, particularly with soem coaches who think they have teh missing link in their sights…unfortunatelky that link plays for the other team.

Hey …help a brother out…wher can I get those Ribs you guys sell. NFL Sunday and Ribs…now we’re talking!!!

    BOHI FAN NOT!,

Obviously you’re not a Bonita fan if you’re discounting these boys. As a team they have shown us all season how good they are, and after giving up 55 points to WC…how many points have they given up? 16 points. Good in my book.

    Where do I start?
    1. Many great comments and long blogs by many people today. I guess everyone has a lot to say.
    2. As many are, I am also very disappointed in last nights Amat game. I really thought something was missing from the team last night from the beginning of the game. A sense of intensity and spirit that Amat usually brings to a game. I felt that way and it seemed to reflect on the field as they did not seem to be pumped up as they usually are. Not sure what it was or if anyone else felt that way.
    3. Tesero is a good team, in fact they have been ranked in the Times top 25 all year. So anyone who thinks we lost to some weak team, you are wrong. At the same time I truly believe we would beat them most of the time. I would still argue Amat is a better team, Tesero was just better last night.
    4. Congratulations to all the Amat kids it was a great year, and you should be proud of yourselves, but use this loss to inspire yourselves for next year. Never take anyone lightly.
    5. I thought the ball should of been ran more, Tesero stopped Moore earlier in the game but he seemed to get some better runs in the 2nd qtr. Amat has won this year buy running the ball, and not with big carries, 4-5 yard runs, that’s all you need to be successful. But, maybe the coaches were thinking that they would change what has worked since Tesero has probably watched tape of us. Either way it didn’t work.
    6. I read a lot of post where people are saying Amat is getting what it deserves cause we come on the blogs and talk a lot of crap. Well I must say from what I have read on here, Amat bloggers are very respectful and most of the time it is in response to people putting Amat down that people respond with put downs of other school. There are a lot of Amat haters out there, because of amats success. People from the SGV should be proud of Amat as the school has kids from all over the valley. Amat is really representing all of the cities.
    7. Sorry to Azusa, I was hoping you guys would prove me wrong as I stated in other post you guys would go 10-0 but lose first round. I really was hoping to be proved wrong.
    8. Good luck to all the other teams still left.
    9. I really didn’t see anyone from Amat putting down W.C., many people at Amat have a great respect for W.C. But people do have to be realistic and know that we are playing at much different levels of football. That’s not bragging or being boastful that is just what it is. Losing in pac-5 can not be compared to winning or losing in lower divisions. They are totally different and with good reason.
    10. Probably didnt say all I want to say but cant bore people anymore. Anyway, losing sucks, but thats part of the sacrifice of loving sports. They are not always fairy tails with happy endings.
    Peace, Frank

    1st and goal,
    Amat73,

I was told a numerous amount of times thruout the week that Rio would never go in & play defense, by all the Amat bloggers!! Hugh..~ goes to show how much you really know about the game!! Turns out.. coach Hags actually put Rio in on defense rite before halftime for three plays~..His only mistake was not putting him back in for the 3rd & 4th qt..just goes to show that sometimes you can get a better prespective on things from a person who has no ties to the school & tells it like it is!…Im glad someone was reading or relaying the message to Hags!~..It was just a little too late!!~

  • just sayin’

12th man – maybe you could post that a few more times i hopes someone cares? No, I’ll save everyone the agony and acknowledge you.

I’m sure that the Amat coaches were getting your suggestions form the blog! LOL! Putting Rio deep on a 2nd & 26, 2nd & 39, & 2nd & 44 to guard against a last minute hail mary is a little different than moving him to defense to play both ways!

I know you;re new to the Amat bandwagon – but last season it was on defense that Rio got hurt against Lakewood. You really don;t want that to happen to a QB.

Arin I am a BOHI FAN. I’m just not a stupid fan like you and KH. I dont make foolish comments about points allowed, frosh teams and mvps thinking they translate into CIF rings. You to will soon be eating the humble pie that Amat and Azusa fans are eating due to the lack of ability to understand the game.

  • Props To The Warriors

La Puente had a great year and kept up with Maranatha. But you know what, the gutsy little Warriors never quit and give the pretty boys a run.
What a piece of crap to place to play a playoff game. You think a school with that kind of money would play at a place that has facilities that make it fun to watch. Instead your treated like seccond class citizens and when the game is close the AD has the La Puente sidelines cleared.
    What a pompous ass.
Great Job La Puente you did us proud.

Maybe i missed something but Walnut almost made things very interesting either way I like a Bonita West Covina final the SGV demands it….

  • http://why? anonymous

Amat did beat themselves last night with all the mistakes but one major mistake by the coaches was choosing not to play Zach Shay last night. I heard he was released by the trainer to play but that coaches chose to save him for game 2. BIG MISTAKE!..Tesoro had film on the last few games which didn’t include Shay due to his injury. They expected him not to play which would have been a great tool to use being that they wouldn’t be prepared for him. I think the coaches forgot what this kid did for them before the injury and underestimated this Tesoro team. A good coach never looks to the next game without first thinking of the one that is at hand. You have to have your best players on the field for the big games. He was suited up and ready but they chose to let him stand on the sidelines and watch…what a shame to think of what could have been with him on BOTH sides of the ball, not to mention the boost it would have given the team to see him out there. What were they thinking??

  • my list is best

no player need to be on any list, seriously who’s list matters anyway??? if the player has talent scouts have a word of mouth process they use…Jay made the right choice.

  • Born Again Huskie

I’ll tell you what. I wasn’t happy with the drive there and especially wasn’t happy with the drive back but I had to see for myself if we would of made a better representation than Charter Oak and at the same time what is this division going to be about for years to come.

This level of football can only be compared to some of our preseason games and bottom line no one in our Valley excepts for the likes of course Bishop Amat and then probably Glendora compete at this class.

We are talking Division II my friends and just facilities and sheer volume of coaches, players, and fans nothing compares to an environment like Vista Murrieta last night.

Do I think Charter Oak made the night interesting? Yes. Do I think they could play with them. They did and were in the game until a costly special team turnover at the end of the first half and the first drive entering the 2nd half.

Yes Bishop Amat fans your heard me say this and I hate to admit this but Bishop Amat’s argument is right.

Our Valley of football just is a fantasy in our own world but there is a real world out there and unfortunately now that we’re in the Sierra league we’re not going anywhere anytime soon if Chino Hills wins next week.

Personally, I think South Hills and probably Charter Oak will be contenders in the Sierra league the next few years but to get past the first round in the playoffs you have to get a better draw then a 3rd place team entering the tourney.

Mid Valley and Southeast football just seems so small time, back woods, in breed football now.

Bishop Amat is right and we were wrong and everyone knows how bad Tesoro beat us so just accept the fact Valley that Bishop Amat beats every team in our Valley every night. Now with that in mind I don’t blame kids if they want to play at places like Bishop Amat, Charter Oak, or us at South Hills because Friday nights are much more intense and a better brand of athleticism competing at our levels compared to West Covina getting ready for Santa Fe or Covina getting ready to play Whittier Christian.

I guess this is the price every one of you wanted to see us pay for our success and lesson learned but I can tell you this South Hills and I recommend Charter Oak and Bishop Amat too don’t buy tickets to go watch local teams play because they hate winners anyways. So if you want entertaining football Division I and II is much more worth the time and money.

I get Covina but West Covina, Diamond Ranch, and Bonita tell me again why is the reason we don’t belong in a league together and do not tell me recruiting because you both get your share of kids too and have a higher enrollment and more success than we do in other sports other than football too traditionally so what gives?

Hell, West Covina, you even beat us one year for a C.I.F. Championship. Seriously, just doesn’t make sense to me. We should be competing together having fun beating each other Friday nights every year instead of driving down the 71 to play Chino Hills, Ayala, and then the playoffs. Go figure?

Bottom line Tesoro’s defense outplayed & outmatched Amats line..They were too physical, too fast, & you gotta give them credit they created some turnovers…Not to mention they completely shut down the running game allowing only 25 yds rushing!! Tesoro was clearly the better team that night! Hats off to there starting QB who is a sophmore & was asked to come in to his 1st CIF playoff game & make it a memorable one~ Well we all seen the results..he didnt put up record breaking numbers nor did he have the speed or scrambling ability that most QB’s have..but what he did have was the desire & the heart to win & compete especially on 3rd & long where he did most of his damage!~…I truly beleive Amats schedule did not prepare them enough to compete in a higher level of competition which is important when competing for a Pack 5 Championship..you have to schedule some powerhouses from the Inland division maybe a team from the Trinity or the Moore league (corona centennial, mater dei, servite, lakewood, long beach poly,) just to name a few: Well its all said & done..No more ..we could of, or we should of! Its a lesson learned for everyone involved..Im sure the coaches will chalk this one up & come better prepared next season!!~

  • as I said

Hey 12th man maybe Rio should pass to himself and then go catch it. Then he could kick off and punt and pat as well.then jump on defense.why would u need 22 players. U guys are a joke. Some one said finally he faces 2 good team and u see the results He is a good player but Pat Haden he’s non..

Nothing wrong with that butttttttttttttttt…when “your” team loses don’t go ape doo doo on the players, coaches and bloggers who just did teh best they could and are coming to grips with the finality of their high school football careers.

Trust me when teh game seems to get away from you and that end is near it takes losts of discipline to keep fighting. MOst good teams have that pree-season and league experience…others have that playoff experience…either way it ‘s tough.

Last year Salesian played Rio Hondo Prep. We busted up seven players and still they fought liek Champiosn and beat us in the final minute. Guess what , Rio Hondo Prep has a great history of being Champions…and it showed.

A few days ago I said Marantha was tough, ahving beat Salesian on a last second play. My point is “know” who you’re playing.

Years ago I said play outside teams that amke us tough. Teh Sierra League is a perfect example. Who wants to go one and done every year? How about playing IE teams during preseason. Maybe it would help parents and kids understand how far they ahve to go to compete.

Any way…a season without blooging (cut back 95%) was different but on my return I see too many bloggers falling into the same trap.

EHre’s food for thought…what’s going to matter to Azusa seniors 20 years from now…a great three year “run” or thsi first round lost.

Just liek DR beat a ton of higher ranked teams two years in a row I doubt any one will talk about their .500 record. Footabll is about memeories, friendships, heartache and yes…pain. I’m surprised you didn’t drop the E since you dropped the second A and put in an I.

I’ll be at home on Wednesday soaking it all in, breathing in the La Verne air and going to the well that my grandfather built for the city to drink from. If that doesn’t help you out, sounded like you’re calling me out. I’ll be gone as fast I got there, ergo, I’m not going to be in town for you. I’ll be there long enough to shake the hands of the seniors that have brightened my eyes from hearing about their play from my father. To thank their parents for raising good young men. As far as Mr. Huth, Jackboy, Don and others; they are good company to keep. If all I watch is this one game thanksgiving week, then that’s all that matters because that’s all I’ll need. Friday night lights is magical.

Coach Podley and others you’ve made the year special for a kid so far away. I thank you for what you did for me and what you are doing for these boys now.

    Dear LP fans,
I can completely understand your frustration/anger in the game’s headline, BUT just so you know, the writer NEVER makes the headline. They turn in a story and the desk people read it, edit it and then make up their own headlines, because they are supposedly uberly qualified to do so. Nathan had nothing to do with the headline.

  • 12th man

Its obvious your ignorant to the game..& you wouldnt have a clue on how to improvise with the amount of talent you have on a team!~ All i was saying that it mite be a good idea to bring in Rio especially in the 3rd or 4th qt when the team is already losing to come in on 3rd downs to help prevent a big play from happening or to stop the other teams momentum…How many times in the last few games did you see the db’s get burned?? Too many too count with both hands..I dont know about you but to me those are red flags coming up..Something has too change…I mean once maybe twice or three times..but come on!! I guarantee you that by bringing Rio in for the remainder of the second half on defense for the passing downs 2nd & long 3rd & long would of changed the dynamics of the game…you think all theese teams playing Amat are stupid & dont watch film or talk among the coaches?? Word gets out fast..the way you beat Amat is by throwing deep they have no secondary..its no coincidence that in the last 5 games Amat has given up more then 135 points & 70% of that on big plays over 40 yds via a la pass!!..So you can come out with your smart remarks & your so called knowledge of the game..But until you start showing me some facts or numbers none of your comments have any real value or credibility..

  • Went To the Bonita game

Because my beloved Damien team was not playing I traveled across town to see Bonita play for the first time this year. My thoughts-WOW! thier offense is amazing. That is the best passing Qb that I have seen in a few years.West Covina must be really good To beat Bonita so handedly because the offense I saw last night looks like they can put points up anytime they want.

Bishop Amat Team and coaches, Thank all of you, for giving us an excuse where to go on Fridays nights! You made going to work on Mondays something to look forward to the end of the week. Come game time, we were able to resort our pressures from work openly.

To Mr. Rio Diaz, you have been a pleasure to watch play QB. Ignor the negativity you hear or read.If some of these Amat haters are Latinos,
If you have never heard this before,’if I can not make it to the top; no body else will!
Come June 2012, you will be laughing all the way to the bank. If you do not decide to play football next year, we will all understand. The way you express yourself though, about not thinking of youself, leads me to believe you will. I look forward in watching you play baseball. Your wonderful parents must be very proud of you as we are.’When the going gets tough, the tough get going. Keep you head up kido. You will do just fine!
To Mr. Wallace Gonzales,it was a pleasure to meet your Mom Roni and Step Dad Nelson. You did the best that you could; for not allowed to play for more than a year and a half. You as well have a brighter future than most of us. Best of luck to both of you.

12th Boy – Do you really think brining in another player to “stop” the other teams would have worked? Did you watch any of the games? Do you know anything about defense or defensive schemes? Do you really know the speed of the other players who were NOT on the field during those games. IF you did, you would not have to be told that unless the player(s)you are trying to “champion” were faster, speedier and better at man to man coverage than the kids (who were out there giving 100% to the team)they/he would not have faired much better. It is, what it was and the coaching staff and players who took the feild gave the AMAT Family one hell of a season. I really think should apply for a coaching spot on the Amat Staff or GIVE IT A REST!!!!

  • we’ll miss ya

  • SGV for 30 Years

I have been quiet for the last week of so. Been kind of tied up. First of all congrats out to all the SGV teams that suvrived to fight another week. AZTEC PRIDE, all I can really say about your boys is, they had a great run. How many thousands of players would love to say they played on a team that was 10-0? Those kids still deserve recognition for that. Hey now only 1 team wins their last game. Walnut, you guys also had a great run. To finally return to the play-offs, after not making it for 5 or 6 years may be the turning point for Coach O’Shields. Amat, well what can we say. You are still the best in our area. You just ran into the wrong team at the wrong time.
I see alot of people pointing fingers at coaches after stinging play-off losses. Those are the people who sit in the stands and say “LOOK WHAT WE DID”. If and when their teams win. Hats off to those men who take the time to work with boys and turn them into young men.

    To hopefully,
Not sure what your getting at but Maggiore and the WC football program had nothing to do with sending SH and CO into “D2″. They looked forward to playing those schools which is why Maggiore kept SH on the schedule and tried to get CO on the schedule.
    Born again Huskie,
Your like a kid laying on the floor and pounding it with his hands and feet, mad at West Covina because of the good season they are having. This so called “small time, backwoods, inbred WC team” from our small time Southeast division was up 42 to 14 on your Huskies when Maggiore pulled our starters at the beginning of the 4th quarter. A classy move on his part because It would have been much uglier if he hadn’t done that, cause we were scoring at will at the time. He allowed your boys to make the score appear respectable against our second and third team, yet you come on here and disrespect him and West Covina’s program, thats fine, I usually wish South Hills well when they were not playing us, but I won’t hold my breath excpecting the same from you.
By the way, that “more intense and better brand of athleticism” was not on display when I saw your boys, although I have seen plenty of it from WC this year.

It goes to show how much class & low self esteem you have! lol..Im your official Higher Power now!!…Your the only parent that complains about spilled milk…I think i read an article on you where they filed a restriction order prohibiting you from coming 500 yards at Keifer Stadium..You should take a real good look at your probation status! lol..Your opinions are like feet!!…You have a couple of them & they both Stink!..Its not my fault your shoe size is greater then your IQ for football..Instead of chef they should start calling you la llorona!..All you do is snibble.. & i should get you some cheese to go along with all that WHINING!..Nobody here wants to listen to your poor excuses…that just makes you look moore pathetic then you already are! Instead you should grow a pair! Take accountability buddy..accept the things you cannot change! Instead of coming on theese blogs & getting ripped a new A%^*&*(^%!!..you should take up a new hobby! FOOTBALL IS NOT FOR YOU!! ..CHEEOONA!!(spanish for lil girl who cries all the time) & you can cook that on your grill lil Chef Cheeoona!~

    Sincerely:
    Your Higher Power!!

Alguma Idia? Ou significa ter de pagar?. s um desabafo, realmente est difcil achar servios para enviar torpedos gratuito.

If you would be a real seeker after truth, it is necessary that at least once in your life you doubt, as far as possible, all things.

There are many subject standards that I want to tell you here: 1. Critical topic 2. Hot topic that consists of several positive and negative effects 3. Main results after this topic end 4. Must create solving-problem side and technical effects 5. Create quick summarize that give reader a time for making future research. Thanks for giving me opportunities in commenting your site, especially if you want to give summary point for that. Nice time to see you.
