All-Area is going to be tough, player of the year, quarterback of the year, running backs … it’s a tough call no matter what

With only six teams remaining we can start thinking about player of the year, coach of the year and theTribune’s first-team. Go ahead and fill in the blanks and comment away, but if you’re like me, you have no idea who deserves player of the year yet. Even filling in the top 25 spots won’t be easy. There is nobody that stands out as MVP, then again we’re only in the second round of the playoffs. But there are teams finished like Charter Oak, Claremont, South Hills, Damien, Bishop Amat, Baldwin Park and Azusa that still warrant strong consideration. That’s where the tough decisions come, weighing individual performances and level of competition against teams that continue on in the playoffs.

Above: Arroyo was one of several SGV teams that lost in the first round on Friday. Coach Jim Singiser looks like how I feel thinking about All-Area. Narrowing it down and picking the right guys won’t be easy. It never is.

2010 All-Area Team
The Super 25
QB – Pick one
RB – Pick two
OL – Pick five
AP – Pick one
WR – Pick three, which could include a tight end
PK – Pick one

Please nominate tribune only area players, not the ones from the Star-News and Whittier, they have their own all area. However, there will be an SGV all-encompassing all-area team that will include the Star-News and Tribune area players — which is all part of our TRIBXTRA magazine package. That’s right, all area will be in the form of a magazine this year, sort of like we did with the football preview. This way we can write more and celebrate the players we choose more thoroughly…

  • JFR

    Fred,

I haven’t seen any stats this year is this due to coaches not sending them in? It’s hard to get a feel on how who did what.

  • http://insidesocal.com/tribpreps FredJ

Some coaches prefer not to run stats at all, which makes it tougher, but stats don’t play as large a role as you think.

  • braves32

#54 vinny elizalde of b.p.braves is the best OL,DL in the valle vista.he leads all lineman in tackles and average per game.he is the anchor on offense and defense ask any coach in the valle vista.

  • Red Barron

    From Chino Hills:

Auston Johnson – DL (dbl and tripled teamed all yr, leads the area in sacks as a ng, man child)
Ifo Ekpre-Olumo – DB (committed to Oregon as DB)
Steve Smith – DB (pick city)
Brad Bergen – DL (strength, control and sacks)
Scott Calles – WR (soft hands)

  • tdrohan

Some of the clear guys that need mention:
    RB Chase Price (Ranch)
    RB/S Chris Solomon (WCovina)
ALL of the WEST COVINA O-LINE (Take your pick)
    AP Vinney Venegas (Covina)
    WR Aubrey Coleman (Walnut)
    WR Jason Tsukada (Walnut)
    QB Brandon Roach (Walnut)
    RB/DB Ifo Ekpre-Olomu (CHills)
    QB Travis Santiago (CO)
    WR Dennis Rufus (CO)
    DL Charlie Avila (CO)
    DL Austin Johnson (CHills)
    QB Billy Livingston (Covina)
    DB Leonardo Freeman (Rowland)
    WR Scott Calles (CHills)

These are of those I’ve seen this year…

If there was a case to be made for Player of the Year, Ifo Ekpre-Olomu would get my vote… Tremendous athlete, an absolute gamer.. He is a game-changer on both sides of the ball.. He is a threat on special teams, defense and offense.. If anything, he is exactly what Darien Johnson was for Bishop Amat. Olomu makes the big plays.. His TD return really led to the Huskies win over Charter Oak.. He again had another TD return in the playoff game.. And he is probably the top college recruit in the area.. He would definately get my vote. He has Chino Hills in the playoffs still. They got the Sierra league title. And he is probably the top talent in the SGV…

On a side note, Chris Solomon from West Covina is the best “area” player (excluding Amat and CHills).. Solomon also has a great attitude and demeanor which I’ve been most impressed with the past two seasons.. He has incredible speed and football awareness.. He is averaging just under, and I mean just, TEN YARDS PER CARRY.. He doesn’t need to touch the football 20 times to be effective either.. He is a great player, and next year, he should be in line for Player of the Year… The whole West Covina team is just tremendous.. The offensive line is rock solid. They have a ton of speedsters in their secondary and backfield.. George Johnson does a good job of keeping it all together.. And Mike Maggiore is again solidifying his place amongst the top coaches in the SGV..

  • Spinal Tap asks, “Why only 11?”

Well every year a Damien Punter makes the list so pencil that in, lol.

In all seriousness it looks like it’s time for Football Expert to make another appearance.

Dispite not seeing every player, or team, and therefor not having the luxury of any type of comparative analysis I suggest the following. I will pick the player who I’ve seen on Fridays, The ones that are from winning teams regardless of their overall impact on the team’s succes. Futher more I believe you have to give some weight to any player the SGV GURU mentioned in his pre-season ANALysis and finally some weight have to be given to players that you’ve seen since Little Johnnnie was knee high to a tad pole plus the Almighty of all criteria, kids who’ve slept over, players who given us inside info on their team and coaches, have to be considered. IN truth it’s a tough deal picking All Area but after, what is it, FIVE LONNNNNNNG YEARS, the Tribune has finally figured it out…AL AREA is suppose to mean some and has limited the picks to 11 on each side of the ball!!!!

And they said it couldn’t be done. Gee I’ve heard of “cut backs” but how do you blame not giving 45 kids All Area when it’s just ink?

Here’s some food for thought….one year a FB/RB made ALl Area after gaining less than 500 yards in 11 games, a punter was picked for All Area after being out kicked in every SINGLE catergory imaginable….point being…a “list” is only as good as the people who put it together.

That said…I’d like to give a shout out to Little Johnnie Couldofbeenastarexceptthegamerequirestalentandproductioninbiggames.

As much as I would like to nominate the entire Amat football team, the fact is that the football season isn’t quite over yet.

Fact is that maybe we should have waited until everyone was finished before we asked these questions.

However, if this was suppose have been based strictly on a kids performance during the regular season, then I guess I could buy the argument that you need to ask this question here and now, but really, I think we should have waited a bit longer.

    your wrong buddy.

all of them come straight up to him and say they love what he brings,
thats from the other teams coaches.
thats why he plays with 110% every play.

  • Just Curious;

shouldn’t the players be chosen among the active teams that are still playing football, especially the QBs….Ruiz??Santiago?? which one of these are good in clutch pressure situations? Redo……

  • No stats

Please don’t use stats in your arguments, half of Bishop Amat’s games the starters didn’t play four quarters which hurt their statline, not to mention teams that pad their stats, or players who have great stats on bad teams that may have stuffed them late in fourth quarters…High school stats are kept by kids and parents, no way they’re useful like the NFL or college, and the level of competition is so different. I’m not sure if Rio had the best season for Amat, but I’m sure if they left in in in about six blowouts, he’d have 600 to 800 more total yards and who knows how many touchdowns.

  • WC in the house and still in playoffs

    Qb—George Johnson(starts on Defense also)

Rb—solomon and bj what better tandem

    OL—really is there a better front 5

WR—molina(doesnt’ have stats but who would with backs like they have)

    Lb—mo dupl

    db—molina(leads valley in int)

  • Huskies

Aiono is probably one of the best OL in the SGV and Vargas is pretty darn good! The last couple games they didn’t play defense much, which gave them a whole lot more energy on offense. Notice the win vs Claremont and the OT loss to CO! So they do deserve to be considered.

Nonu avg. about 5 tackles a game and with that schedule!

Gener avg. about 4.5 and his schedule even tougher!

Tuliaupupu avg. close to 6, with 11 against roosevelt!

I could switch Gener for Avila?

Regardless, I picked pretty well! So if you want to come back and try again, go ahead!

  • LANCER 4 LIFE

The best line in the Valley is SH, NO DOUBT. Best skill guys might be AMAT or WC. Aionu, Vargas and Nonu are flat out outstanding. WC has some real burners and Amat has Rio and Moore. The best QB is Jeffries from Glendora that’s my view.

  • Amat D

    @NotSince1995:
Chino Hills doesn’t play half the teams amat plays. Gener went both ways all season and averaged those stats. He was constantly disrupting qb’s in the pocket every game. If you gave him 2 more seconds during those games he has like 3 million sacks. Also Avila is overrated!!! You need to realize who Amat plays and who the rest of the valley plays! I root for the rest of the valley but they don’t play the same competition! Sorry. So make sure you know what your talking about before you open your mouth bro!!

    huskies and lancer 4 life.
your both home waiting tell next week.
put both of you guys put all three guys together and they still dont equally bonita two lb between the 2 at bonita they have over 200 tackles and 14 sacks.
and both will be playing this friday night.
huskies do you think amat players are the olny players to sit out the fouth quarter,
at bohi sometimes are starters were out in the 3nd quarter which i thaught sucked, it was best for team plus other players work the same amount of hours at practice,,,
all awards should be based on the player at the position who mint more to the team then any other player playing that position, plus who can carry a team as far as they can,
alot of guys fred picked early are long gone, wondering which game they should go watch this friday.
hands down the closest pick will be for kicker, donny hageman damein and bonita kicker both showed real streght at the position, donny punts to,so give donny punter brandin kicker.
    great job boys.
for now thats my only two for sure picks
    punter-donny h damein
    kicker brandin bonita
qb race is still heating up
    covia bonita w/c/
all qb are still in uit tell the end.
w/c/ qb has a different style of running his offensen so td /intro really dont play to much into his over all gains.
now covia billy l. saw him in late summer league, really liked what i saw.
i told you all covia should win cif.
    now big garrett p
looking like the next coming of a taler joe montana,
starting to come into his own, remember he didnt not play first 4 games.
starting to turn it up alittle faster then last season.
i will wait to see whos carrys team to championship cif patch, thats going to be my qb
offense line, bonita has 1 that stands out # 64
reggie.love the way he stay on blocks then fines guys down field.
    plenlty of time left.

Maybe if they did that against a monster schedule then I would say OK they’re awesome. Considering you got completely torched by WC and the rest of your schedule is not very good it’s tough to make arguments for Bonita… Sorry…

If you can get by Muir or even make it to the final and get past WC then there’s sure consideration! WC was your toughest opponent and like I mentioned before it wasn’t a good day!

  • Ego Driven Selections

I’d like to nomimate as many players from my school so I can feel better about myself. It doesn’t matetr that I haven’t seen all the players in the valley…what matters most is bragging rights. I sleep better at night knowing my team had the most all stars…..just like in Little League.

    Too funny.

  • Huskies

    BTW Mr. KH,

Since I dislike your comments I’ll just be honest with you and throw it out there! The SH linebackers are not the best in the valley, but I would still take them over yours. Your kicker went 10-11, which is good, but the SH kicker went 6-6 and had a booming 43 yard field goal in OT against CO. Quite a bit of pressure that I believe no other kicker has come across yet. So our kicker over yours! Our offense and defensive line over yours as well, too much arrogance KH?! Pipe down a little, because again you got torched by WC and trust me, if you would’ve played SH at season end it would’ve been a whole lot worse than the WC beating you suffered!

  • braves32

another thing about #54 at BP
he played every lineman position center guard tackle and tight end to keep his offense going so there are five spots so one of them should be his

and on defense everyone aviods running his way
and he leads the valle vista over d-lineman with tackles

  • Born Again Huskie

Finally a fellow South Hills blogger! Like I’ve said, until you’ve been in our shoes none of you can talk because you each are trying to compare apples to oranges. Last time I checked our level of competition as well as our finish to our season proves our best team will be stepping on the field next fall and in the meanwhile Southeast football just seems so trivial and irrelevant in the present and future.

We improved because of our competition and now and in the future playing South Hills if you are in the Hacienda league like Bonita or West Covina would be playing up and us playing you would be playing down. My point is local games are meaningless now unless we played Bishop Amat or Glendora because preparing for league our opponents are just a cut above local Valley talent anymore.

Bonita’s games in years past have been a downright humiliating shame versus Charter Oak and now that we have to call them our brethren because we represent one of the same and I would have to say we would dismantle Bonita just the same like Charter Oak. Several years ago you played the Chargers for a league championship and the game was very similar to this year’s outcome versus West Covina so focus on Muir because athlete for athlete you just do not have the kids to compete with them and how unfortunate will that be when your season ends again in extreme disappointment.

Everyone always says Bonita overachieves and West Covina underachieves I say both teams better have an * asterisk next to any championship they win this year. To be a champion you have to beat the champion and no one from the old San Antonio or Miramonte leagues or Southeast division pushed Charter Oak to the brink better than we did this year so I would say we both beat you at the end of this year. There is no substitute for experience and after nine games we are better than you!

Seriously, Bonita and West Covina just sound so small and not exciting Friday night football compared to playing Sierra league games. The level of competition is just far superior as well as the atmosphere is just so much more intense and a better quality opponent.

Regardless, good luck and I hope our Valley can still keep the local C.I.F. Championship local!

theres no doubt whos AP OF THE YEAR VINNY#5 returns KO punts for TDS plays a mean DB and NOBODY is a better WR as for QB BILLY L HAD A GREAT YEAR GO C TOWN

  • Sgv fan

i know these two might be under the radar becasue the coach didnt do his job by putting out his kids names.
but #56 willy regis and #63 michael gallo from glendora these two kids were great linemen #56 was a great center there was never a nose gaurd he couldnt handle and had great speed #63 started tackle and ng there were times when this big boy didnt come off the feild! he did great on both sides of the ball and he was the captin of the team and they were both the anchors of there line.

  • Born Again Husky

You guys know that I’m just having fun with you, right? I mean we could not even beat Monrovia this year. But we would love to be moved down to the Valle Vista league to get another shot at them. We probably would have lost to San Dimas, Covina, and Pomona but I think we would have had at least a shot of getting an at large berth instead of sitting at home fridays like now. Now don’t get me started on that because if the league would have given us the Mulligan like we asked for after the Charter Oak game we would still be playing!!!! I can’t believe they disrespected us like that..We are South Hills for Christ sake! Hold on…let me take my pills….Anyway we were at the Azusa-Covina pee wee championship game Sat and I think we got some of the kids that want to play for us. We just have to figure out how to make them look bigger in their uniforms. Anyway…that is for another discussion. So just know that I’m just kidding with you guys.

  • http://asgggfg once upon a time

    Born Again Huskie

I hate to break it to you but if you played Bonita this year you would lose you guys only beat them by 7 last year and their way better this year Talent wise I think its funny how south hills fans always try to compare themselves to Charter Oak I played both teams last year and your programs arent even close

  • Get the name right

KH – if you are going to nominate someone, at least get the name correct. It is BRANDT Davis, not Brandon.

  • Wow aaron are u kidding me!

dude Rio roach chavez pendleton! really dude your a moron! im sorrry but billy livingston is better then all of those QBS if anything it should be between billy and kessler!

  • Born Again Huskie

Go ahead attack me now but none of you have disagreed with my opinion on the level of competition we played weekly compared to everyone else in the Valley with the exception of Bishop Amat and Glendora of course. Say now or forever hold your peace because remember this game is never about how you start but about how you finish and did any of you read Aram’s article?

He said so himself we have heart and I promise you an offseason building on the end of this season you will then seriously have something to hate like always in less than a year. Talk to me after you have as many championships as we do and really while you were playing teams like Los Altos, Rowland, Diamond Bar, and Walnut in league we were playing teams like Ayala, Damien, Claremont, and Chino Hills in league.

And on another note, we would never lose to any Valle Vista league team period that’s why we are in the current league we are in right now. As for being at a youth football game, free country entitles anyone to be anywhere at any time and you can accuse us of recruiting but we never have recruited the program itself has recruited from the success we’ve had for years. Why wouldn’t you want to play for South Hills compared to lower level Hacienda league football. No one is getting scholarships from the Hacienda or Valle Vista leagues.

Finally, Charter Oak realizes they were lucky to steal one from us that we let get away from us but they didn’t beat us we beat ourselves so come get me while you can because the Valley’s days are numbered just ask Aram he saw us, wrote about us, and can remind firsthand again if you haven’t read his story. Where you at Aram?

  • Mario Mendoza

kh – for a guy that spent so much time in Rookie Ball and Single A, you of all people should know the difference between the Minors and the Big Leagues. You couldn’t hit over the Mendoza line in Single A – so you know there’s a huge difference when you move up levels. You wouldn’t have hit triple figures in the Majors. You know stats are way different when you face better competition.

I’m pretty sure your just a Amat hater because this whole year all you do is talk trash and trust. I have seen the film plenty of times because I’m Julian Gener. I know that I wasn’t pancaked and all you say that happened. I respect the rest of the valley and the things they do but you don’t need to be talking down to someone because of how well they play. You honestly are a joke because all you can’t even congrats Amat for a decent season going 9-2. It’s sad to me because of all the potential we had this season. I poured my heart into it. All you can do is talk smack on the fact that we didn’t win it. So I hope in your small little world that you can realize that it’s high school which you probably aren’t even involved in. So excuse you.

  • dkane

gener, orduno, and moore from amat for sure all 3 of them earned it this year

  • get off

South hills bloggers get off the blog because you guys sound so stupid saying you guys are good and next year your going to have a better team. you have no room to talk crap with your recored. dont bash the hacenda league because you wont beat walnut or bonita and you got beat down by WC. you have Hart coming back maybe and everyone is that is comeing back is just ok so get over it.

  • wow Billy livingston?????

obviously your from covina….haha. how can you place livingston as the best???? the kid moves like a lineman what’s he run a 6.76 in the 40? I credit his recievers and he had a couple lucky games!! The real West Covina team will finish you guys off..shouldn’t you be getting ready for school right now?

Here are the players that I have seen that deserve to be on this team:
DB – Ifo Ekpre Olomu – Chino Hills (just committed to Oregon on Friday)
DL- Auston Johnson – Chino Hills 17 sacks – leads inland division from noseguard, All CIF last year
OL – Nick Enriquez Chino Hills- JR- He’s a beast
OL – Robert Soliz – Chino Hills Only 5’9 190lbs But dominated his opponents from the center position.
RB – Nate Harris Chino Hills – Really turned it on the 2nd 1/2 of the season.
WR – Dennis Rufus – Charter Oak
RB – Hart – So. Hills
    QB – Kessler – Claremont
    WR – Dockery _ Claremont
    WR – Kuramata Claremont

  • Best WR in the AREA, look it up

    1. Dockery, Claremont (119 yds/game) 2.Rufus, Charter Oak (106 yds/game) 3. Katrib, Diamond Bar (98 yds/game). I’m sorry, Katrib’s stats are more impressive. He had to share touches with 3 other receivers who had 47 catches, 38 catches, and 35 catches. Only Dockery had to share the ball more. The Duo from Walnut deserve consideration, Coleman and Tsukada.

  • Dan

    Born again Huskie,
Walnut would have beat your Huskies, they also improved at seasons end, most good team do that.
Your team would have missed the playoffs in the Hacienda league too, now get on back to class son, you shouldn’t be on here.

  • ALL BLUE

    Not since 95,
Julian no need to address that ball less chump here…Fred has banned him again! The truth is if he lined up in front of you he would be pancaked!!! If he stood in front of me he would be silent, because he is the ball less wonder… Wish he would wear a “notsince95″ shirt around so he could see how many people do not like him…

Bottom line, if you pulled your pathetic ass out from behind the computer, you would “GET KNOCKED THE F*** OUT”…

What a PIECE OF $HIT YOU ARE!!!

  • Amat69

Jay Anderson at RB also MVP. If Amat had Jay Anderson this year we would still be playing.
Its just amazing how much the right player can be missed!
    Next year; no Rio.

  • ALL BLUE

    Fred,
Sorry about that, back to the subject!

    QB- Livingston/ Rio
    RB- Moore/ fregoso
    WR- Adam Sanchez/ Rufus/ Dockery
OL- Orduno (best in the valley)
    OL- Aiono, Orozco, Vargas
    TE- ???
    AP- Vinny V
DL- Gener (because 6′-210 is not undersized)
DL- ??? need to see more teams…
    LB- Juarez, K C (because K H said so)
DB- Oluma, Blue (our coaches thought so)

Will update after seeing West Covina friday nite, do they tailgate over there?

  • SGV For 30 Years

Looking at QB’s in the area. I didn’t see Ruiz so I can’t really speak on him. I don’t think Pendleton should be on the list (only because he was injured and missed almost half the season) Omana split time so if he is on the list, Cameron has to be on it to. Kessler was very impressive. If I was to make a judgment based on what I saw, Kessler would get my vote. Then Roach who came out of no where. Good story. (Beat Livingston in a shoot-out) Livingston had a great season but he wasn’t the best. Venagas made him look real good. I think running back will be tougher to pick than quarterback.
All-Valley said I read your list of Running Backs. You must be from the Almont League area. Solomon from WC, Price from DRanch, Moore from Amat are by far the best at their position. I didn’t see the Rosemead kid or the Cantwell kid, but I can’t even imagine him being better than those 3 players.
Born Again Husky: Dude get over it! You guys didn’t make the play-offs. You got beat bottom line. You did have a nice victory aganist Claremont I’ll give you that. Now we’ve all figured it out. Judy North was the brains of the outfit. She retires and the program fall apart. Looks like all the sins of your past deeds are finally catching up with you. No more stealing athletes from other schools. Karma is a mutha.

#7 From Chino Hills deserves to be on it but not as db because he didnt make any plays as db this year even though he’s goin to oregon as a DB.

Why the hateful attitude? Is it because #7 had the sense to get out of Cellblock LA before the end-of-days, or because you now realize that he’s better than any QB you have remaining?

    Not David Rivera, or M.S.

  • just play

All Blue like your list,,You need tight end best one I saw all year was #11 at South Hills he really helped that line by blocking his a$$ off, and according to max preps had 13 catches 4 td..Highest stats of tight ends that I could find..

  • Amat D

    All Blue,
I was tired of all the talking all season. I just wanted to let him know what really happened. Thank you for the back-up. Also Thank You Fred and Aram for the great coverage on us this season.

    All Blue,

I am a total amat fan, but seriously Blue for DB, are you for reals, this is why people cant stand us, cause we cant even admitt when were wrong! sorry but if we are looking to only Amat players for DB the choice should not be BLUE, Cazares was much better, not the best just better, not saying that Blue is not good, just being honest…

  • cov parent

what about randy robledo from covina for kicker. all the pats that he has to kick for the team.

  • ALL BLUE

    Amat D,

  • Walnut Insider

    SGV430,
I don’t know if you saw, but I gave my thoughts on the Walnut season in the Sunday Tribbin’ thread.

As for the players of the year, I would say that B.J. Lee (#5) from West Covina was probably the best player I saw all year. Claremont’s QB deserves some recognition as well. He might not have had stellar numbers, but that guy could put the ball into some tight places.

Coleman will probably get recognized from Walnut because of size alone. I would like to see Tsukada get some sort of recognition as a special teamer. He really kept Walnut in the games and won some games early on. In fact, he turned the DB game around with his return.

Roach won’t get anything, but he was great for the Mustangs. I don’t know if this has been reported on here, but he played the majority of the game with a broken thumb in his throwing hand. Apparently, he thought it was just a bad jam and didn’t think twice about not playing. I don’t know what Walnut would have looked like without him if they would have won.

  • AMAT!!!

    NotSince1995,

Are you serious right now, your form of informing us of your opinion is so wrong, whether it be Julian or not, you have no right to talk to and about him that way, you dont even know him!! Respect is respect, opinions are opinions and yes, both respect and opinion can be together, I dont understand where your coming from with your attacks. You obviously need some sort of counseling. I mean you chose a name that is a clear direct attack on AMAT.

I happen to know that Julian is a great, respectable kid. Who are you to say he doesnt belong on the ALL AREA Team, your the idiot if you truly think he doesnt. Look unless your an idiot, no one will agree with you and no one will see your point!

Get some help so that you can enjoy life and not dwell on the s!uccess or lack of succcess of AMAT!

  • Amat D

    NotSince1995,
I respect them but my opinion is how I think of them so don’t try to turn my words around ok. Playing Muir, Garfield, Cathedral, Loyola, Notre Dame is not pumping your stats. I played half the game in Muir, Cathedral, Notre Dame, and Garfield. So please explain to me what pumping up the stats is if you play half the game??? The difference between You and I is that your probably an Adult and I’m A Teenager so I believe there should be a difference of maturity between us but it seems sad to say but you don’t show any maturity at all. Also All-Valley goes up to the men controlling the blogs and they pick the right people to be on it so I’ll leave it up to them.

  • Amat is real!

@ not since 1995…… Please read what stupidity you are writing before you write it.. hahahaah.. Yes there are probably other good players that deserve to be on the all area team but no need to shoot down amat players just because they lost. haha. You must have sat the bench your entire high school career. Amat is no doubt the best team in the valley and everyone knows that, we have continually year in and year out beat all the valley schools we have played for numerous years and counting…This doesn’t mean there aren’t good teams in the valley or good players, just Amat is an elite in the valley…Yes we played garfield, cathedral, and muir. but they were willing to step up to us.. Our week 9 game was available, and Charter Oak had a week 9 open also, did they take it claiming to be the best in the valley????? NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO…….And Loyola and Notre Dame would probably beat every valley team in the area, o wait Loyola beat upland right?!?!?! and Notre Dame has had great years and now 1 bad year and all of a sudden they are ranked with garfield and cathedral? haahahha… Dude you need to get ur sh!t together… you are all over the place.. And let me tell you that yes West Covina has had a good year, but they played mater dei not to long ago and who did Amat just beat last yr? pretty sure it was Mater Dei.. For you to try to compare the valley teams to Amat is a joke, but there are great players that come out of small schools no doubt about that…But you are a grown man going at a teenage, you most likely do not know football… You probably sit in the stands and yell because your son isn’t doing what you are telling him to do, which is exactly why you are in the stands… If you knew football soooooo welll and how Amat is sucha weak squad then you could go coach a valley school to a victory over amat correct?

I hope you have been on MaxPreps to see that the Pac-5 division was ranked the 3rd strongest division in the nation!!! Amat has been in the playoffs the past 3 years. in ’09 almost beating the #1 team in the nation at the time!!!! Tell me where the charter oak’s, chino hills, walnut, west covina, etc. where all there leagues lie across the nation? i guarauntee not top 50… But liek i said doesn’t mean there aren’t good quality players or they aren’t good teams, just they are not Pac-5 contestants and Amat beating the valley the past couple of years should show that…

I was a graduate of amat, and i played amat football…I know what it’s about and my team was also hated on and told Charter Oak was better and South Hills Diamond Ranch, etc… But the fact of the matter is that if we played d-6 football we could have back to back to back to back to back titles year in and year out… Your judgement of football is at a very low standard.

but yet Amat is going to go 3-7 next year right?? hahaha…. another prediction shot down the drain the past 3 years.. ask Fred Amat football is real football, not this flag football that you play on Sunday’s with your friends. Try going to a game next year, feel the environment , the tailgate, the crowd, everything… And we have the smallest population of students in the entire area!

And yes you are right not since 1995.. But when was the last time you stepped on the field? Cuz you are talking as if you or your son was/is a stud. hahahaha…. you probably only played
in the powderpuff football game at your school…

  • Dan

    KH,
You had me going for about a second. I was thinking you were about to pour your heart out on us when you started with the “honestly from my heart” line. Too funny.

  • Football

Garrett Pendleton should be qb. I know he didnt play first half of the season but still he is a stud. Find me another qb who is up by soo much in the beginning of the game that his coach rest him in the whole second half and thats why his stats arent as great so GP has to be the qb he has led his team this whole year and last time i checked Bonita is still in the playoffs and not at home so Fred be smart and pick GP.

  • Jackboy

    kh,
I like your team, good athletes and great team chemistry.
70 yards? Forget the football cleats; Ill have to find my track spikes.

  • JG

Amat/AmatD/All Blue Quit looking fo Fred for justification when you attact somebody, Amat had a good year Now go away Gracefully, season is over!! YEAH OVER!!!

  • braves

Vincent Elizalde #54 from Baldwin park is on of the best linemen in the valley he should be considered atoffensive and defensive side with 57 tackles 4 sacks according to Max preps but he never left the field could be the best player on the Baldwin park team

  • ALL BLUE

    JG,
Dude, those were just courtesy apologizies for extending beyond the circle of his intended forum… As far defending Julian (17yrs old) from inapropriate comments from a grown man, have you read some of the things posted that are now removed? I hope you are not defending this guy?
Keep in mind Julian is teammates with my boy, and we are good friends of the family so there is not much room for tolerance…

We can still vote, can’t we?

  • reality

KH, Thanks man, I finally made a team. D-Line–I,m stoked!!!

  • OneAndDone

    Fred,

    This is the All-Area Defense:

DL: Peter Nonu, South Hills, Sr.
DL: Austin Johnson, Chino Hills, Sr.
DL: Charlie Avila, Charter Oak, Sr.
    DL: Brandon Tuliaupupu, Claremont, Sr.
LB: Mo Dupleasis, West Covina, Sr.
LB: Wardell Crutchfield III, Baldwin Park, Sr.
    LB: Joseph Herrera, Gladstone, Sr.
LB: Nick Alexander, Charter Oak, Sr.
DB: Ifo Ekpre-Olumu, Chino Hills, Sr.
DB: Demetrius Jackson, Baldwin Park, Sr.
SS: Chris Solomon, West Covina, Jr.
    P Donny Hageman Damien, Sr.

This is an All-Star Football team. You have Size, Speed, Experience, Winners, and most of all they are Great Kids. All of them.

Put these football players on a field and I guarantee you that nobody would be able to score on them.

That offense would be One And Done.

  • SGV Coach

    Amat D,
Congratulations on a wonderful season and on the way you have expressed your self on this blog. You were courageous enough to not hide behind a computer anonymously, and you represented yourself intelligently and maturely.
It is an arduous task playing football at Amat. No one can understand the demands, unless they have been part of it. You are asked to uphold 50 years of tradition while being under a microscope. This is difficult for anyone, let alone 15, 16 and 17 year olds. But, you did everything that you could, and you played with all your heart on every down.
With each passing year, you will appreciate what you did for your school more and more, and you will root for the players that follow you because of it.
Yes, the challenge is to win a championship, but there are many great players that have not won a championship for Amat. So, don’t let that bother you, it just means that you are in great company, the Amat family!
    God bless!

  • Bonita

KC is not even the best lb on Bonita so he cant be all area
Eric Mikity is the best lb and should be on all area

  • W.A.J.

    Football,
Your funny, GP for QB hahaha you have had a cupcake schedule all year except for WC and you lost, that should tell you something right there.
And you say the last time you checked your still in the playoffs? LMAO, well sure your in the playoffs still when anyone draws a first round team like California who was 3-7 it’s most likely your going to the second round.
You Bonita people just crack me up.

  • GHS

Christian Fulham Sophomore punter at Gendora 45 yards a punt by far the best in the valley. The kid from Damien averaged 37.
    Also consider.
    Donovan Holmes AP
    Coerey Victoria RB
    Jefferies QB
Demetrius Hicks RB 9.5 yards per carry
    Michael Gallo DL

Against the toughest schedule in the San Gabriel Valley

  • Lesson Learned

what we have learned here is that a HS senior has more class & maturity in his little turf toe than NonSenseIQ=95 has in his whole body. Anyone with an ounce of football intelligence that watched a half of Amat football can see Gener is far & away an All-Area DL

  • kh

bonita. they dont play the same position.
    micks in the middle
    k.c. outside linebacker.
k.c. has to blitz ever time, where do you think the guy go straight up the middle to mick.
last season they finnally put k.c. in his spot against s.h in the play-offs.
    17 tackles by himself.
i have the film if you want to count them.
do the math 17×11 = 187 so dont tell me about what kind of season k.c. would of had at middle lb boys
    it is what it is

Nice try, but I am my own man…I do know sgv coach, formerly known as sgv athlete…
He is a scraping young man, maybe 23yrs old…6’1″ / 240 blonde hair, blue eyes…
Myself, 6′ 1″ / 265 salt&pepper brown hair, piercing brown eyes and a heavy edge! So do not confuse us…

My online perception of you is a stringy little wuss that likes to get into everyone else’s business… 5′ 3″ / 117 greasy dirty blonde hair, can’t see your eyes cause your bi-focals are so dirty… Just a complete loser, that still lives with his mom… Be careful or I will call your Mother!!!

kh and k.c. back up all words of wisdom.
    talk the talk .
    now walk the walk.
eat some turkey and get ready for some
    good old football friday night,

  • get a life

everyone here needs to get a life and stop talking trash about teenagers when you are adults. they are putting their hearts out on the field and having the time of their lives and let them be. Stop trying to live in the past when you were in high school watching the games from the sidelines.

SGV football is a joke compared to Orange County Football. This was proved when Tesoro, a mediocre team in Orange County, beat Bishop Amat. SGV’s #1 ranked team. Granted Bishop Amat without the doubt is the best team in the SGV and they can compete but the other top teams in SGV cannot compare to top teams in the OC such as Servite, Mission Viejo, etc.

So get a life, talk about football on here but dont talk trash about the kids, talk about the coaches and the schools, thats what rivalries are about, not adults talking trash to high school teenagers.

    AMAT D,
Guess I missed the village idiot in one of his moments. Glad whatever he posted is gone but either way he is just one on the many fools ( although he is on the extreme side) you will encounter in your life. Just remember what being a LANCER is all about and you will know how to deal with people of his type.We all have fun on here going back and forth with each other but when it is carried it to his extent that is a serious mental issue . You had a fine season and gave it your all . You were and still are a fine teammate and leader. Keep your head high and always remember you are a LANCER . There are many bloggers and not just from AMAT who think you are a fine young man. I never have had the pleasure of meeting you but through your play on the field you have brought great moments for those of us in the stands.Good luck to you in your future and keep working hard. You did have some words for my grandson and who is on the freshman team one day at practice and he was really impressed by what you told them . He followed your moves on the field and aspires to have the success you have had at AMAT . Good luck to you in whatever road you choose in your future and believe me you have what it takes to be successfull in college on and off the field. Just remember you will always be part of the AMAT FAMILY and we will always be behind you .

  • amat will shine

Been to all Amat’s games, seen Covina, seen C. Oak, seen Bonita, seen Claremont. There is no question which team has the best Quarterback,
Bishop Amat’s own Rio Ruiz…This kid will have his choice of colleges in football and baseball, this super athelete made such great plays all year, throws with great touch, throws with deadly accuracy, moved the chains all year and made big, big plays that made the crowd just shake their heads and say “wow” and clap. Opposing coaches are/were deathly afraid of him and praised him and his play. 1st year in the #1 position in all of sports, and threw for 2000 yds and 19 td’s, set a CIF record for consecutive passes…Rated as of today, # 2 QB in all of the Pac 5 Division…the Freckn PAC 5 people, the 3rd toughest division in the entire country! He is not trowing against Nogales, Pomona, BPark or Los Altos… He lines up against the Serra League…IT makes a difference on the teams and the defenders he has to throw against, no offense to the Valley teams, but there is no D1 corners with the exception of Ifo of C. Hills on any of the Valley teams…some QB’s may have better numbers, but the quality is just not the Same…Never was and never will be… He did all this and played in only half a game in about 5 games. He did it in a Run first offense, because J. Moore is such a stud as well..He only started throwing more than 20 times a game after the 4th game…Claremont’s guy throws 35 to 40 times per game, Santiago the same…Not Apples to Apples people…It’s still good football but not D1…It is the Mountain West vs. the SEC
    J. Moore is the Best back in the Valley, ran against the best in So. Cal.
But I have to be very honest…Julian Gener is the best football player on the team and will probably be the Defense MVP in the Serra League…his play on offense and defense was crucial to Amat’s success, he lead the D-Line for Amat and never took a play off… and Rio and Jalen will both attest why they had such great years…the Blocking of Gener (and Orduno)

Gener should be the 1st “if ever” Defensive Line/Offensive line MVP…Ask any coach Amat played against and they all will be unanimous he was awesome.

I have my nominees for all area players but I’ll save them for the end of the season, right know I just want to focus on Santa Fe.

  • Lancer#76

    Thanks Dan

We don’t have anything else to do this year. If we hadn’t made all those mistakes on offense and played better last Friday our team would be playing right now too.

This may late but it is well the effort. I wish to show all of you who did not see Amat play either in person, cable tv or webcast. Here are some clips of Michael Juarez, MLB #54,to show you why he was selected to the Preseason All Area Team and should be selected officially.

The games shown are against Garfield, Cathedral, Damien, Muir & Venice, much more video left out and he only played 1/2 or 1st defensive series in the 3rd qtr. of game in these clips.

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tXseHaAG60s&feature=BF&list=ULrCgRr6WTcLg&index=5

Yes, he is my son but if his level of play was average at best nor did he have the stats or praises of the coaches & fans to back him, I wouldn’t be on this blog.

His final team leading stats: 48 total tackles, 28 solo, 40 asst, 3.5 sacks for -38 yds, 10.5 tackles for losses for -56 yds, 8 passes broken up; 4.4 average tackles per game.

I’ll be posting another video shortly against: Dominguez, Crespi, Loyola, Notre Dame, Alemany & Tesoro, games that he did play all 4 qtrs.

    AmatD;
Don’t let yourself get caught up in what other people say about you especially behind a screen. You’ll always have some people who are negative about everyone except themselves, they’ll be jealous of your success,in school on the field & in the workforce. Always remember to hold your head high, to continue to live your life to the fullest and live your life with God & family as your guide. This is what I tell my son and we are all part of the Amat Family.

Good luck to all the remaining SGV teams.

First of all, let me congratulate Bonita on a fine run into the playoffs.

You’re right about the stats listed on maxpreps, I guess if your services are needed all four quarters of every game, then yes, the stats total would most definitely be higher.

Let’s pit your LB stats vs. mine by way of:
Team Rankings Bonita: 647 Amat: 224
State Rankings Bonita: 57 Amat: 24
    Section Bonita: 35 Amat: 14

Hmmm, is it clear to say that Amat plays in a tougher division & better quality players? Do you really believe that your LB’s would have the same numbers if they played for Amat? Of course not, one of Amat’s team goals was to get everyone major playing time (Amat roster of 78 v Bonita 52)not just the last few minutes of a game.

I once asked my son in his freshmen year if he wanted to play at a public school & perhaps be a 2 way star player, he said no because he wanted to challenge himself against the best players and he would never have learned to play football the Amat way. He has only played tackle football for 4 years- all at Amat which wasn’t the reason he went there, he went to continue his Catholic education as his older sister & brother have done before him.

I often hear the reference that good players from the other (lower level) leagues are good enough to play D1 ball, well guess what KH? Amat is the ONLY SGV TEAM to play every football season in D1 where a higher percentage of opponents will play collegiate & NFL football!!!

I’m sure Bonita’s LB’s are great players in their league and I don’t want to take anything away from their ability on the field, good luck to all the remaining senior’s who want to continue playing football at the next level & beyond, I pray that you can make it.

Look for the second video on youTube I’ll post in a couple of days, just for you KH, I’ll even show him dropping back into zone or man to man coverage against passing teams, no stats for that is there? (only for PBU-passes broken up)

  • Things to consider

Here we go with the lower league comments from Amat bloggers. All Area means the best in the area ..with the caveat that every one gets a measured and appropiate serving “across the readership” landscape..

That’s why all league selections used to matter and don’t as much any more. Salesian once had 21 all league selections while playing Notre Dame, Loyola, St. John Bosco, Crespi, St. Francis and Cantwell. That’s impressive by any measure and looks bertter than Amat’s current schedule if any one is being honest.

Let’s play nice here and stop with the best competition BS. In fact I was at the Tesoro game and in that agme alone…I’d be hard pressed to find 7 Amat position players that were better individually, that night, than their counterparts. In fact without breaking it down too much let’s say out of 25 positions I saw 4 Lancers that were eqaul or more accomplsihed at their positions, that’s my opinion.

Tesoro’s line was better, bigger and better conditioned that night, the Tesor QB was more accurate and more composed and the WR/TEs were flat out sick. On the defensive side of the ball it gets uglier as Tesoro had players with size and speed.

In fact the best Amat player that night was #1 who came up big time and again for the Lancers.

Trust me I have loads of respect for the Lancers but all those early season wins made some Lancers lose their composure when the going got tough that night, and apparently against Alemany as well.

Now it’s easy to say Tesoro was better that night only and Amat beats them 3 out of five times, but from what I heard..they’re younger than Amat. Is that true…because if it is Amat might be in trouble as Tesoro was a 3rd place team with great coaching and loads of players to pick from while Amat might lose tehir best players for whatever reason.

Which brings up an interesting question for bloggers:

“Which was the bigger tank job…Azusa losing to an obviously misranked team or Amat losing to Tesora at home?”

Based on Amat’s own second and third round projections I’d say Amat took this one on the chin, BIG TIME !!! Yes Amat “could” have won that game if Rio doesn’t fumble at tHE one but then again Tesoro had 1st and goal at the 10 and then somehow had second and 44…that’s home cooking in my book. Man it was embarassing to watch but highlighted teh differences that night in coaching staffs. Tesoro has ONE Head Coach while Amat apparently has too many sideline “barkers” ..at least that wa steh case, that night.

This year’s Lancer team was the best team that never was…if Championship “runs” are any one’s measuring stick. In fact this year’s melt down might rival some of the Lancers all time “full of themselves” moments.

Any way…I’ve seen Bueno from Monrovia and he’s MORE VALAUBLE and a BETTER PLAYER than Rio all things considered…yet Rio is probabaly a better long term prospect. Figure that out and see that all things aren’t equal…yet are.

    No hate …just observations.

  • TELL ABOUT THIS TANK JOB

    Frank,
You sure have been putting it to Amat lately . Every chance you get your on them about as bad as you are on Aram. You must still be having trouble swallowing that total domination of Amat over your beloved Damien . Tell us about their tank job the whole season for a change . Amat lost plain and simple no excuses no crying because it’s over. I saw a post by you on the lack of student support by the Amat students and you went off on the greatness of the boys in the pit . Well I was also at the Damien game and I have a question for you , WERE THE BOYS FROM THE PIT AT THAT GAME BECAUSE I DIDN’T HEAR A DAMN PEEP FROM THE DAMIEN SIDE THAT NIGHT .

WOW! How far out in space are you? How can you sit there and twist around something I posted about my sons stats compared to KH’s LB’s he boasted about from Bonita? Neither one of us had mentioned Azusa or QB’s.

There is no delicate way to say that the playing field is NOT EQUAL amongst all teams in the SGV based solely upon their individual stats or ability to win CIF. Other from Amat, can you name another team in the SGV that who won CIF, would be considered for a State Playoff?

Again, no disrespect to all the other teams in the SGV but I’m trying to make a point. I’m talking about current times, not something years & years ago as you mentioned Salesian.

I’ll be the first to congratulate any SGV team who takes it further than Amat was able to each year as long as they don’t try to compare the two teams, the only way I would agree would be if they stepped up to play D1 ball, then & only then would I consider the playing field equal.
Sure you can schedule PAC5 teams to see how you’d rank & then hypothesize about them beating you 9-10 times but again, do step up into the league to test your mettle.

It’s ok if you don’t or can’t because of issues, Amat will always be the only SGV team involved in D1 or PAC5 football.

Boy, I’m sure glad you chose to attend the game v Tesoro to judge the quality & ability of all athletes. You must be some type of FOOTBALL GURU to be able to compare 25 skilled positions on both teams (gee, I thought this was 11 man football) to come up with less than 7 Amat players that were better than their counterparts.

I posted video on youTube, did you see it? Someone called you out as Frank from Damien, if this is true, are you still disappointed in the thrashing Amat gave you guys? That was one of many games the Amat starters were pulled early.

Both the Alemany & Tesoro games should of been won by Amat, they just couldn’t execute enough to get the job done, these are 15, 16 & 17 year old kids making errors in judgment, the coaching staff is one of a kind & will work on correcting those decision making processes better next year. Wait a minute, didn’t you say all of the best players will be graduating & they have unknowns or unproven players coming back! Yada, Yada, Yada; each year same-o, same-o!

No need to worry, Amat will just reload & play Amat style football.

  • Hey it’s that Damien guy…burn him!!!!

Gee all I said was “things to think about”…what’s the harm?

As far as Amat bashing…please. No need to go there but this year didn’t work out the way you guys thought they would, am I wrong in saying that? Besides I said early on I thought Amat’s team would go 10-0 after seeing them four times this year and Amat 73 will vouch for that after the Damein game I told him so. Besides Damien graduated 17 staring positions…hey but last year was fun wasn’t it?

Most Amat former players routinely talk about losing games or seasons when they were indeed “over confident”. In fact my nephew’s team was one of them and he’s told me so, so how am I suddenly an Amat hater, especially after my niece was on the Homecoming Court THIS YEAR????

I’m not the first to say so…even on this blog where former players have talked about seasons lost in the first round. What’s the harm in admitting Amat lost two games at the end of the seaosn they “should not have lost”. Ot “should” they have lost…because if “thats” the case than I’d say differently….but I believe they “should” have won BOTH…am I hating in saying so?

Look Amat had FOUR tough games this year and lost two….NOter Dame, Crespi,Alemany and Tesoro…that’s .500 ball, am I wrong?

As far as twisting things Mr. G…..I don’t see how. I made a point taht Bueno from MOnrovia is MORE VALUABLE and a “better” player than Rio in the selction process but not in the “real world” where “heart” takes a back seat to size and long term potential…Bueno is maybe 5’5″ or so?…and i think the world of Rio. How is that wrong? Besides it’s just my opinion afetr seeing both…BUeno is flat out SICK…and to do what he does at his size….he’s pretty special.

Now for those that think I’m giving Amat the business how? Like I said before I lost respect for several Amat coaches for actively recruiting during the season and I stand by those comments. Won’t go public but will say I’d meet with those coaches in person and tell them so myself because that was an all time low in my book.

Listen Mr. G…no need to get upset. Your son was a flat out stud, he’ll make all everything and have a great college career but to say Tesoro didn’t have better players is contradictory to everything that is Amat where size doesn’t matter and individual matchups are secondary to the team’s combined effort. Am I wrong again? Look at teh job Alberico did last year or how about Prieto? or that nose gurd youguys had last year…all over matched on paper but some how got teh job done…geez lets’ be honest here. Isn’t taht what makes Amat special?

Never understood making things so personal. Maybe that’s why so many long time Amat backer “hate” teh new Amat Nation…becuase they talk out of the azzz without so much as an ounce of objectivilty.

Try telling a Raider fan anything but praise and see the verbal BS you have to deal with.

As far as my beloved Damein…sorry I’m a Salesian guy …my kids go to Damien. Too bad so many “new” Lancer fans forget where their roots are. Besides…when I played I beat Alemany, lol. Funny how Amat’s current schedule makes up most of the teams I played in high school. Now that’s crazy!!! Wait we “never” played Garfield but did beat Roosevelt…does that count!

BTW I talked to Serra’s HC and he said openly you guys tore up a signed contract…is that true or is he lying. See it doens’t make sense to brag about being “teh only D1″ local school when Corona Centennial, Serra and others would welcome a game. Alemany, a former Salesian league opponent showed why there’s nothing to fear. Hey just kidding.

Come on Amat isn’t it just a bit embarsassing to schedule Garfield when the Black Mamba is out there?

Great season…why? Because you came in second in league and lost at home in the first round and might get ranked behind Chino Hills in the final area polls?

No need to get all personal liek so many othrs do…I’m just asking “IF” by Amat standards this season was among the “best” ever? Remember teh bar at Amat is very, very high, or at least it used to be before you guys started making Garfield into a Giant slayer of all things.Balls they got but so do other schools you played early on have Amat’s depth?

BTW friends I respect say you guys would have beaten Serra…so there’s that.

Geez I never ebeen a Kool Aid drinker so why start now.

My Pal Joey might have an opinion I respect so I’ll hear what he has to say. Be kind Joey…lol

  • amat will shine

Things to consider? How about yourself a damn Fool
25 positions…excuse me but there are only 11 positions on each team, 22 in total with O and D…dont start throwing in Kickers and punters, I mean really…Pac 5 is tough enough, there are no 3-7 (Cal Hi) teams that are automatics for anyone…there are no gimmies, and there really are no big upsets as each team that makes the playoff’s is capable of playing big, on a emotional night…I.E. Amat almost beating Poly 2 years ago as an at-large team…But comparing a 5″6″ scat back who lines up under center, basically a wildcat offense where all he does is roll out and throw or run…against inferior defenses, is not a measure of a QB…Bueno gets about 60 touches a game and runs every chance he gets…there is no Power running back to compliment the passing game, so Bueno gets all the balls…It’s like Allen Iverson shooting 50 shots a game and always scoring 40 plus points…Whats his completion ratio, what is his 3rd down conversion ratio, what are the TD’s to Int. ratio…Bueno is a good HS kid in a small school playing against mediocre talent…put him on the big stage, then see what he could do…Pac 5- D coordinaters would shut him down faster than your HS coach benched you!…He would never start at QB for any Pac 5 school, he would be a slot reciever at best…Rio Ruiz as done well against the best, he did have 1 tough game, but actually made great plays that were nullified by penalties and tried to do a little too much…He is our guy and we hope he comes back with a vengence next year…When you fight in the heavy weight division, you can’t be compared as a fly weight…You say #1 had a great night that night, well I totally agree with you, who do you think was throwing those balls in tight coverage…Yup NINE!

  • Aaron

Please stop the Rio Ruiz banter. I’ll give you my pick on QB later.

Just thought I’d step to the plate for our Bonita linebackers. One stop with the “I play so much better competition line.” Everyone still has to put the pads on and play 11 on 11 the difference is depth. That’s it, depth.

Blue and Gold Stud your son is great high school player, and great leader on the Bishop Amat Defense. But look at Eric Mikity’s stats. To be honest with you I wouldn’t have put Eric Mikity where he is today, because he wasn’t. The guy who was going to be the stud at the LB position was going to be Casey Horine. He got injured with his third season ending injury. Eric Mikity steps up and well, plays the best of any Bonita Linebacker I’ve ever seen and is also 5’10″. Mr. Huth’s son is an emotional leader on that Bonita defense. Mikity and Huth are the bash brothers, actually they are Chaos and Mayhem, they hit like a freight train.

I have no doubt if they received the same opportunity your son has they would have been leaders on that Amat defense and vice versa.

Giamani…don’t worry you’d been amazing on both sides of the ball. Nick Pichotta who stepped into the starting role left by Casey Horine has performed admirably…he also got a lot bigger, my how kids grow.

  • TIME TO GET OFF THE SOAP BOX

    FC,
First let me ask you since you love to talk how you faced all these great teams in you day . WTF happened to Salesian . Every team you have listed has moved on to greater heights and some have won a D-1 title but where oh where has the little lamb Salesian gone in this picture. I can bet the Garfield team Amat played would have mopped up the field against your school . What the hell is so bad in scheduling Garfield anyway .It had a purpose and you will see the results soon enough . You of all people since you bring up roots know damn well there is some great talent on the eastside . You read the paper and the blog on how St Bonnie’s change of schedule threw a wrench in our schedule . Your problem is you stand behind no one and then come on here and knock many by your all self professed football knowledge . You were run out of Damien by your own crowd . Did you think they gave you a new paint job because they loved you . Think about that , you drove some one to that point because of your never ending think you know it all attitude. Why don’t you get that Serra coach to call Fred and back you bs story about a contract .You say you won’t go public on some recruiting bs story but you come on the blog and talk smack about it . Is the blog not a public avenue . Another thing who gives a crap about losing your respect when you didn’t have enough respect for your own kids and let them have a high school athletic career , no you had to shoot your mouth off and make it a horrible time for them by having the coach have so much spite for you they took it out on your kids and you’ve got the nerve to talk about the coaches at Amat. Now try and come on here with some bs story about first hand knowledge of a coach at Amat doing it but you won’t go public with it . Great season yes because our boys gave it all they had to the end . We came out of the season without major injuries , played for the league championship although we lost and made the CIF playoffs. So although Amat did not win it all it was still a great season . Believe you me it could have been a lot worse. Just look back 4 years ago , Amat could easily still be there, like Salesian is still there at same place in football 25-30 years after you left . And no Frank beating Roosevelt is not like beating Garfield so it doesn’t count.

  • FC

Did any one read my cooments? LOL

You might have missed the part about taking things too personal and addressing the issues at hand.

As far as the coaching bs, sorry. If you’d like I’ll met you in Hags office and we can in house it, what do you say?

As far as Salesian goes, hey we’re better off than Daniel Murphy, Mt. Carmel and Pius X!…don’t you agree?

Don’t take things so seriously, isn’t that what every one says all the time?

Look Salesian has Soccer and Volleyball Champiosnhips and a few State titles to their name in the last five years so I guess we all do what we do best. Our X Country team has been pretty consistent since our Brother Tom days, try dissing him why don’t you? But thanks for crapping on Salesian…btw we played Amat as well, according to your War and Peace Media Guide, and according to whitey you beat us 12-6. Hey we did better than Charter Oak and a few local schools didn’t we?

Look mr. nameless… I have an opinion, doesn’t make me a know it all…just have an opinion. Like the one I have about Amat…which I exercised by not enroling any of my four kids there…and they’ve done better than the ones I know that did. Although I dio have a nephew who’s also a Trojan Alumni…great guy btw.

Try and not speak to Damein Dynamics, which you know nothing about. Gano gets along fine with me as do all the new and improved Damein coaches, some that used to coach there at Amat, liek Spooner who I’ve known for years and Ray Lugo who’s beaten me since CYO days. Matter of fact I told his kid soem stories recently taht had us all laughing. Beside IF it took all my BS to get two former NFL palyer to coach freshmen and an incredibel group of men to coach teh rest of teh kids, so be it. Gano and Co are incredible individuals who have made Damein a special place to be again. BTW I only saw 1 game this year, sideline pass. I hear they’re going to soak teh field in Holy Water…see I can joke abiout it know …why can’t you?

AS far as coaches taking things out on my kids…I thnk you’re proving my point aren’t you? Besides we didn’t go to Damien for wins and loses we went to Damein for D1 educations an d D1 life’s after college. Did I ever mention Harvard? lol. just kidding!

Look in all honesty, yes Aamat had a great season and Rio is a near God but address the .500 question?

As far as 25 players…if you can’t figure that out you know nothing about Football, maybe even less than I do…and that’s saying something.

Better yet…just cause you asked and are so myopic. tell me the 11 players that were better that night by position compare dto tehir counterpart?

I’ll give you #1 who was incredible. I’ll won’t get personal because I don’t know who you are. But if you really want to go SOAP BOX…met me at Amat and we’ll ask the coaches in question together, You up for that? Any one who knows me knows I’ll be there. And like I said it’ll be in house becuase that’s what Catholic Schools do.

Last point …am I mistating something? DOesn’t Amat pride itself on being a better sim of it’s pasrt while other schools go the other wya.

Anyway…great conversation. The blog was goining snails. Thought I’d help!

  • Hey it’s all good

    Just cause you aksed:

Garfield’s 2010 schedule looks allot like what Amat’s used to look like.

Bishop Amat 0-23 lost by 23
Orange Luther 3-15 lost by 12
    Colony 12-27 lost by 15
St. Paul 13-3 lost by 10
    Roosevelt 13-3…opps won by 10
    Carson 13-29 lost by 16

Pretty tough schedule don’t you thuink…Is that on par with Amat’s preseaosn considering 3 of those teams were Amat regulars and sevral divisions higher?

BTW notice the Roosevelt score? Same same lol

Now as far as Salesian goes…I think we do okay except for the forfeits, lol

Salesian beat Bishop Montgomery, your league opponent in every other sport but Football by 10, 24-34, Lost to Maranatha on a two [point conversion 28-29 with time expired and lost to Whittier Christian 21-14 who’s a semi finalist in some lowly division you’d know nothing about. So I think we do okay especially after going to teh semis last year and lsoing late on a personal foul.

Look at it this way, Saleian has less seniors in the school than Amat suited up players for Tesoro…yet boast a City Councilman and many other noatable scholar/athletes, one of which was named Ivy League Player of the Week, ouch!

So why diss Salesian when it’s obvious we’re recruitring the same kids, double ouch!!!

Hey it’s that Damien guy…burn him!!!! said:

Let me first start off by agreeing with you that Amat’s season is over, both Alemany & Tesoro played more inspired & did not have as many turnovers as Amat which was not caused by a coaches decision but by players errors in judgment. Not that I’m trying to single out any particular players, but the blame to be motivated, prepared & play hard goes across the board: from the players, coaches & even us the fans.

Most of us were looking ahead to who we might play and were we’d be tailgating that week, such as it is at Amat. Nonetheless, it was an exciting season, especially for my family. I mentioned twisting things around was not directed at my sons stats or level of play but in the direction (off course) of the conversation between myself & KH, who hasn’t responded to my post as of yet, maybe he saw the video on YouTube, jk.

Good luck with your kids, (all 25 of them, jk)you made a choice of sending them to another school, just as I have chosen to send my kids to Amat, I don’t talk smack about your choice or school & appreciate it you do the same especially on the public forum. A private conversation among friends is perfectly acceptable & respected.

    Aaron said:
I had stated that the Mikity’s stats were impressive and I’m sure that he’s an outstanding leader & young man. The point I was trying to make was that if the roles were reversed and he played for Amat, those numbers would be similar to Michael Juarez’s and he would probably be a leader as well. Congratulations for an exciting senior season.

#54 was the MLB, he played no other position although he could of, Amat needed him as the MLB. If he needed to sacrifice his body to take on the fullback or pulling lineman to plug the gap in the middle to force the runner to the outside, so be it. If he needed to blitz, most of the time he’d force the qb to scramble or the back to be stopped in the backfield by his teammates. There are no stats taken for these types of plays but you can see what he accomplishes on the field on film.

I apologize if I come across to any of the talented LB’s in the SGV (not IE) in saying, “my son is better than your son”, I would hope that the ALL AREA TEAM selection process is not based upon stats only.
Maybe FredJ can shed some light on the selection process, I’d imagine itd be similar to 1st & 2nd TEAM LEAGUE selection, through the coaches suggestions, stats, followed by game film of said individuals, but I could be wrong.

Please remember that the original feed is nominations for ALL AREA, I happened to nominate Bishop Amat MLB #54 Michael Juarez

Good luck to all the other nominees, may you represent your family, school & SGV well in whatever you do or wherever you go.

  • FC….still think Jerry Mac was The Man !!

    Blue and Gold Stud

See that’s what I’m talking about. These blogs can make people stupid but when cooler heads prevail we see it’s not all bad. there’s a huge difference between a critique and a criticism and of course an observation.

Maybe the difference for some is based on how much “blood” is involved.

I really do hope teh ebst for averry single kid, even the biggest aholes who are other there because in the end any child is worn saving.

I do have a question for you though if you will indulge me.

How many receivers are there when you go doubles? How many TE’s are their when you go “double tight”? How many DBs do you have when you go into the “nickle”?

When I said 25 players I knew EXACTLEY what I was saying. …add the kicking game (2) maybe three as some teams have a kick off guy AND a FG guy, as Tesoro did.

So as I said…”Don’t you thonk when a coach plays teh game he has to account for at “least” 25 “starting” positions?

I’ll wait and see those that are sure I know nothing and see how much I don’t know, on second thought.

So once again I’ll ask this question that started all this? What was teh criteria for a great season at Bishop Amat..being ranked #8 in the LA Times? Not winning league (as you did last year), losing at home in the first round (like you didn’t do last year when you beat a solid Mater Dei team)and finally not getting to the second round, (like you did last year.

All in all I’d say it was a great recruiting year and a year filled with great memories but overall a little disappointing when all teh chips are tallied.

So mcuh for not be honest with yourselves Lancers. Usually a great trait by former Lancer ballers…must be “nation” influence.

If Rio doesn’t play next year who’s Plan B?

LiKE I said many, many ,many times before Jerry Mac was and will always be under rated and under appreciated. kid was a freakin, flat out, go to war and stick right by him S.T.U.D. !!!

Rio’s nice but Jerry was the Man.

  • Studs

I agree with some that #45 from Charter Oak Nick Alexander needs to be on this list. He was a flat out stud and seemed to be in on almost every tackle! He is also getting interests from small colleges in the area. As for p.o.y. you can’t go wrong with Ife!

Apple now has Rhapsody as an app, which is a great start, but it is currently hampered by the inability to store locally on your iPod, and has a dismal 64kbps bit rate. If this changes, then it will somewhat negate this advantage for the Zune, but the 10 songs per month will still be a big plus in Zune Pass’ favor.

The cost is rediculous for the fake cactus, but it does look really good. I saw at least 2-3 fake saguaros at the Festival of Trees in Sedona. They are apparently wire based inside and covered in the kind of piney green that yous see on a fake Christmas tree.

The amazing thing about HMS Warrior was how fast after she was launched the entire world of warships changed from wood and sail to the grey battleships of today.Wooden-sided Warrior, with both steam and sail, was the first step but after thousands of years of sail the entire transition to no-sail basically took less than 30 years within 46 years of her launch you had the massive fleets of Dreadnought-type battleships and cruisers ranged against each other en masse in the First World War.There was an excellent small exhibition on this topic in the RN Museum (150 yards from HMS Warrior) about two years ago. In 20 minutes you could see and learn all about the entire chain of warship design transition. The RN Museum shop probably has good books on the subject.Louise is right too about Warrior and Portsmouth. Warrior was pivotal to the continuing development of a Royal Navy that really did rule the waves, and Portsmouth was its home.Strangely, though, the change to industrialised warfare at sea that Warrior ushered in (at the same moment as industrial land warfare was developed in the American Civil War) also swept away the global British imperial power it was designed to uphold. Imperial power become untenable within just 50 years for all but the mightiest of the new world powers.Admin

Hands down, Apple’s app store wins by a mile. It’s a huge selection of all sorts of apps vs a rather sad selection of a handful for Zune. Microsoft has plans, especially in the realm of games, but I’m not sure I’d want to bet on the future if this aspect is important to you. The iPod is a much better choice in that case.

I must say, as very much as I enjoyed reading what you had to say, I couldnt help but lose interest after a while. Its as if you had a terrific grasp on the subject matter, but you forgot to include your readers. Perhaps you should think about this from much more than one angle. Or maybe you shouldnt generalise so substantially. Its better if you think about what others may have to say instead of just heading for a gut reaction to the subject. Think about adjusting your own thought process and giving others who may read this the benefit of the doubt.
