Football: Chino Hills and Bishop Amat No. 1 and 2 on MaxPreps’ final computer poll

I will publish our final rankings in the Tribune PrepXtra All-Area Football magazine, which is scheduled to be published on Thursday, Jan. 6. For now, look at how MaxPreps’ computers ranked the Tribune Super 35 to end the 2010 season. You have to admit, championships and deep runs in the Southeast or Mid-Valley Division didn’t affect the computers much, where Charter Oak, Damien, South Hills, Glendora and Claremont all finished in the top ten.

1. Chino Hills (10-3)
2. Bishop Amat (9-2)
3. West Covina (13-1)
4. Bonita (12-2)
5. Claremont (7-4)
6. Charter Oak (6-5)
7. Damien (6-4)
8. Glendora (5-5)
9. South Hills (3-7)
10. Diamond Ranch (5-6)
11. San Dimas (8-5), 12. Walnut (6-5), 13. Covina (10-2), 14. Rowland (4-6), 15. Ayala (4-6), 16. Azusa (10-1), 17. Diamond Bar (6-4), 18. Arroyo (9-2), 19. Baldwin Park (5-6), 20. Pomona (5-5), 21. La Puente (8-3), 22. Northview (3-7), 23. Rosemead (8-4), 24. Wilson (4-6), 25. El Monte, (4-6), 26. Gladstone (5-6), 27. Sierra Vista (7-3), 28. Los Altos (0-10), 29. Nogales (1-9), 30. Ganesha (4-6), 31. Mountain View (5-5), 32. Bassett (3-7), 33. South El Monte (1-9), 34. Workman (2-8), 35. Duarte (0-9)

WOW!!! Tough schedules do mean a whole lot. CH was definitely the #1 team no doubt!

  • voice of reason

a couple of things that don’t make sense:
    1. san dimas 2 spots ahead of covina? covina had a better overall record, a better league record (league champs) and beat san dimas head to head at the end of the year
    2. rowland @ #14 and diamond bar @ #17? same argument, diamond bar better overall & league record and beat rowland head to head at rowland high school
    3. with diamond ranch and south hills both making the top 10, it shows just how week sgv football is.

  • Mike Robledo

wow… looks like Max Preps using same computer BCS does… this is nothing to get worked up about…

I highly doubt West Covina and Monrovia care about its respective Max Preps or Cal Preps ranking!

  • Huskies

    Or the Trib. ranking!

  • BigMLover

According to MaxPreps, Monrovia finishes 5th behind Bonita and in front of Claremont.

CalPreps has the Cats finishing #88 in the State…

  • Huskies

BTW… Mike it’s Trib 35. Monrovia would not be on this list!

  • Now that looks a lot better

Looks like they did a good job taken into performance, strength of schedule and common opponents.
Sure there can be some movement but solid overall.

  • SaintsR4real

    It’s not Trib 35, it’s Max Preps 35.

I believe Mike was referring to Wesco and Mtown not caring about ANY polls.

  • Amat Honk

Savor the Flavor Chino Hills…..Congratulations on a great season! Go AMAT, Go LANCERS!

  • Chino Hills

The Huskies ended up ranked 12th in the southern section, 21st in the state and 168th nationally.

    Merry Christmas

    Go Huskies!

  • SGV

SGV MVP PLAYER OF THE YEAR! Should go to Ifo #7 Chino Hills, the man among boys…..The kid has heart and will put it all out there healthy or hurt….I am now a Oregon Duck fan…

  • Chino Hills

    SGV fan,

After watching Ifo play offense and defense against Corona Centennial, with Qb Eubanks and Rb Collins, both great athletes, I can say without a doubt he is the MVP of the Inland divison.

  • jcaz

BTW Fred, is it to early to start asking about the annual all star game ?

Like, where’s it gonna be at this year, and who’s gonna be in it ?

    Should be another fun game.

  • Huskies

Ur a bit lost. Pay attention.

  • Frank

Amat losing to Tesero and Chino Hills beating the was probably difference in rankings. Congratulations to both.
How bout Asuza ranked 16th @ 10 and 1, they must of got no respect for their league.

  • Red Barron

Wow! What an awesome season for the SGV and IE. BMat vs CH would’ve been a great game this season.

    Go Huskies!

  • SaintsR4real

Forgive me if I’m wrong, but the Trib 35 is not out yet, says Robledo’s post.

YO FRANK, ASUZA??? You can do better then that. AZUSA FOOTBALL and to tell you the truth I beleive Maxspreps placed the ranking just RIGHT! SAINTS4REAL i’m still working on my poem and it’s going to be a long one… JK. I realize now what JK means. LOL…

AZUSA vs San Dimas next season I believe. SD, can you confirm that.

  • Frank

@ Aztec Pride, actually Aztec I wasn’t putting them down.I was surprised at their ranking. If you are insulted be mad at maxprepes or whoever decided the rankings, its just that the only explanation for being 10 and 1 and ranked 16th, must be a weak schedule. There is a 3 and 7 team ranked higher. Hey,I thought you were signing off till next year?

FRANK? never said I was signing off and you never read that from me. That’s what a lot of these bloggers thought I was going to do when AZUSA lost in the first round. I’ve been on here for around 4 years inputting and lobbying for AZUSA,and yes i’ve heard every insult about AZUSA and the Montview league known to MANKIND!

Yes Frank, and I also remember you saying negative comments about AZUSA also.

Azusa has nothing to be ashamed about and in reality this team continues to get better every year. AZUSA did something in this LEAGUE that if i’m not mistaken has never been accomplished and won the Montview League three years in a row and convincibly. They’ve won several playoffs, reached the semi’s and were voted #1 in the Mid Valley that has never been APPOINTED TO ANY MONTVIEW LEAGUE TEAM in SGV history, unless somebody can prove me wrong.

What Coach Scherf and his staff have been doing has been remarkable and what he’s working with what AZUSA has to offer! I watch the Monrovia video and noticed the diversity of many players. Yes i’m going there!!! and will say this, most GOOD teams will have a good balance of big white linemen, big black and fast recievers etc… and a very fast hispanic QB player

  • Reality Stinks

    Hey Azetc Pride,

Azusa needs to step up to the next level and challenge a real program in the pre-season. The problem with your program is not the team but your weak schedule. Tell the coach to pick up the phone and call Glendora, Ranch Cucamonga, Damien, St francis, St Paul anyone who has good program etc. just stop building a false perception that every team the play in the playoffs are going to play like Duarte.

  • Christian

Besides Azusa & La Puente High School, the Montview league is the weakest league in the San Gabriel Valley; consisting of Azusa & La Puente (only exceptions) Duarte, Workman, Bassett, Ganesha, Gladstone & Sierra Vista. No wonder they finish (10-0) every regualar season walking right into the light of the playoff season. The Aztecs record an astounding PF 416 and PA 61 this year. That’s amazing & a great accomplishment, but what programs are they playing against all year long? With those seven Montview league games, coach Joe Scherf & the Aztecs go undefeated to end the perfect regular season, easy. To get the recognition they deserve they are going to have to get out & schedule stronger area programs that run a different tempo. Azusa needs to look into a stronger schedule. Every year, I give a D+ to C grade on Azusa’s SOS due to general league strength and non-league opponents. These non-league games need to be standouts! C’mon, strive to get your name out there! Follow up on what West Covina is doing now and start scheduling the big powerhouse programs. All words put set aside, great season & I only hope for the best in the future of Aztec football! Here are the Azusa Aztec football results of the 2010-2011 season.

Azusa Aztecs (10-1) Overall (7-0) League

    W @ Bell Gardens 48-0 (non-league)
    W Ontario Christian 31-10 (non-league)
    W Gabrielino 34-0 (non-league)
    W @ La Puente 28-0
    W Sierra Vista 41-7
    W Bassett 35-6
    W @ Duarte 46-0
    W @ Ganesha 51-7
    W Workman 36-0
    W Gladstone 42-0

    L Village Christian 24-31 (non-league)

This is an idea of what I would like to see on Azusa’s schedule next year. These would be notable signs of progress I believe. A few change-ups. For all you loyal Aztec fans, nothing but respect for you guys. This was a good Azusa team that represented the SGV, just would like to see them step their game up to bigger & better talent.

Azusa Aztec football 2011-2012 season schedule.

    Azusa vs.

    Week 1 @ West Covina
    Week 2 Charter Oak
    Week 3 @ Sierra Vista
    Week 4 Ganesha
    Week 5 @ Glendora / San Dimas
    Week 6 Gladstone
    Week 7 Workman
    Week 8 Duarte
    Week 9 @ Bassett
Week 10 La Puente (Rivalry Game) Azusa Aztecs vs La Puente Warriors

  • Frank

    @ Aztec pride
Yes I have definitly made some harsh remarks in the past about Azusa. I have also complemented them. The last three years you guys have done well, but that’s as everyone knows due to a defucnt Duarte program. When Duarte went to playoffs a few years ago, before CIF changed who you guys play. Duarte had to face really tough opponents. Whom now you wouldn’t have to face (Verbuim Dei). CIF has made playoffs easier for teams in lower divisions, you now face like competition.
Due I have problems with Azusa, yeah, I think their officials are fishy, and as you mention race, it was that long ago that blacks weren’t welcomed there. Don’t know if thats still the case? Yes Monrovia/Duarte success is due in part to having people of different ethnic backgrounds. It shows and proves that people of different backgrounds can achieve great things when they work together. Infact it breaks down barriers between people as we learn that race is only something we culturaly construct, or no more than a phenotype we use to describe people. So after all that I still wish your team good luck.
