Covina High School showed off its new gymnasium during its annual Christmas boys basketball tournament the final week of December, but tonight is the official grand opening of the gym, in the Colts’ Valle Vista League boys and girls basketball openers against visiting Wilson. The girls will play at 4:45 p.m., which will be followed by a ribbon-cutting ceremony at 6 p.m., followed by the boys game at 6:30 p.m. Many former players and coaches are expected to be in attendance, including players who competed for legendary Colts coach Doc Sooter. The game of the night, however, is at Glendora HIgh School, where the hot Tartans open Baseline League action against Los Osos.
