Last-second shot helps Amat stay Queen of the Valley and beat Bonita, 57-55

Andrea Villanueva found wide-open teammate Leeah Powell under the basket for an easy layup off an inbound pass as time expired to give Bishop Amat a 57-55 win over Bonita in a clash of the area’s top-two girls basketball teams.

Bonita entered the game 16-1 and this appeared the year that somebody else beside the Lancers would dominate the local landscape, but Amat had other ideas and came from nine down in the second half to eek out the victory and maintain its status as the top girls team in the Valley.

Amat’s Leticia Galarza led all scorers with 22 points. Bonita’s Madison Zylstra was held to 10 points. Nikki Wheatley led the Bearcats with 17.
