Amat romps: If defense wins championships, Bishop Amat High School has a chance to earn its first league title since 1988 when the school was in the Angelus League. Amat used a suffocating defense to shut down La Salle 64-37 in the first game of second-half play in the Del Rey League on Friday night.

Mountain View takes over first: Mountain View High School used strong starts in the second and fourth quarters to defeat visiting Gabrielino 56-41 and take sole possession of first place in the Mission Valley League boys basketball race.

I was at the bishop amat game last night. they did play great defense, i believe it was the fans that got into the other teams head. It was the biggest turn out for a lancer basketball game in awhile! La Salle put there head down after every play due to that crowd. Finally by the end of the third you could see the game was out of reach mentally for the other team. congrats on a win. there is some great defenders on that team when there wants to be.

Bonita boys move to 19-3 with a 82-42 victory over Diamond Bar. Girls also move to 19-2 after beating Diamond Bar, not sure of the score right now. Both are undefeated in league play.

BoHi roundball is 39 and 5? And this is the new, “tougher” Hacienda League.

Pretty impressive; has this sort of thing happened before in girl/boy hoops? Heck, anything; Water Polo, Softball/Baseball, whatever?

Gotta get out to one of these games and see this.

Don- for a small school with little outside transfers the “other” school in La Verne is doing pretty well in general. The girls program has received its due and rightfully so. Waiting on the boys program which is quitely building a strong team and could make a solid run in the playoffs. Both seem to be building for post season.
