Now that we have an idea what football players are signing Wednesday, how about other sports?

Non-football athletes expected to sign national letter of intent on Wednesday .
Lauren Stupin, Los Altos, soccer, (Cal State Fullerton)
Heather Jackson, Bonita, cross country, (Utah Valley University)
Kylie Price, Bishop Amat, track, (UCLA)
Katherine Salcido, San Dimas, track (UCLA)
Khalalah Todd, Northview, soccer, (New Mexico State)
Jessica Smetherman, Glendora, soccer, (Cal State Fullerton)

Below: San Dimas stand-out hurdler and triple jumper Katherine Salcido will be signing her letter of intent with UCLA. Salcido will compete in the heptathlon for the Bruins. She chose UCLA over Stanford. Not a bad pair of choices.

Below: Los Altos soccer standout Lauren Stupin will sign with Cal State Fullerton ..

Two girls from Ayala girls soccer sign on Wednesday – both full scholarships – Alexis Weaver to University of Houston and Alicen Wright to TCU. Junior Makenzy Doniak also verbally committed for a full ride to University of Virginia.

Congradulations to Lauren Stupin on a remarkable 3.5 year career (not quite over yet) at Los Altos. In her 4 years on varsity Lauren has led her team in assists and goals for 3 years. She has also been named League MVP 2x, 3x 1st Team All League & 1x 1st Team All CIF, and most importantly (to her dad!) she has accomplished all this while maintaining a 4.45 Cumulative GPA! We (her parents) are very proud of her dedication to the sport and academics and look forward to her continued success right down the freeway at Cal State Fullerton!

I know this isnt’ about football, but Tarez Lemmons, linemen from Bonita, will be attending the University of San Diego

I do congratulate all those athletes who have been offered a Letter of Intent, and those who will continue their playing careers at the nest level in other other divisions of play.

I do want all athletes and their families to be educated on the process and clear up some misconceptions about the NLI. There has been much made of programs “oversigning” athletes and either talking them into “greyshirting” or running other scholarship players off(as happened at UTEP with the BP duo).

There was a good piece on “Outside the Lines and I found this article and it is well-worth the read… just so you know both ends of he deal.

Congrats and good luck at the next level

Congrats to all the girls and boys committed on signing day. Just know that there are several other athletes in the SGV going to other teams in California who preferred not to be owned by their sport for various reasons. Hey parents, did you read the fine print?
