Bishop Amat's 2011 football schedule complete

| | Comments (20) |

Too bad Amat nation can't post comments while our techs work into the second week trying to restore them, but here's what you all want regardless, your 2011 football schedule. It appears Long Beach Jordan was added in week two, forcing the Lancers to have a bye in week ten, something coach Steve Hagerty wanted desperately to avoid. Also, Amat's annual Hit & Hustle football camp is on Saturday, January 15 for grades 3-8. The $75 registration free includes a camp t-shirt, certificate of participation, group photo, lunch and of course instruction from the Amat coaching staff, including Hagerty. For more information call 626-962-2495, ext. 6001 or visit bahitandhustlefootballcamp@yahoo.com.

TruthBtold how do you figure there will be alot of dropped passes did you watch the same games I did lastyear? Sanchez has been Rios receiver since there freshman year! We have talented WR's this year but that Sanchez kid is going to drive the DB's crazy and if they catch him they better be ready for some punishment

Truth - Hey, no hard feelings. You got some good stuff here. I will move about this topic randomly so try to stick with me...Deceiving speed? Zach Shay is the master of deceiving speed and Sanchez has got some pretty good jets also. Look for a steady TE in Velasquez next year with the addition of another big bodied TE in Carrillo. Plus we still have two very good receivers in Patton and Andrews coming back. JV receiver J. Cook could also be a throw up the Fade type receiver down near the end zone next year. I also hear that The Safeties and a Corner from the Defense could be in the Offensive mix next year for some added hands and speed. My real Offensive concern for the Lancers is...who comes is behind Ruiz? I see the opposite of what you see. If allowed, there are a lot of potential weapons on that Amat team. The Offense can be very unpredictable, Tricky and equally explosive next season IF need be or allowed to be. I think that the Defensive side of the ball will gel and cause some problems for some teams next year. There are some hitters coming back from last year’s squad and there were some kids with great potential on their JV Squad last year too. I'm already ready for next year! Go Lancers!!!!

its hard to see if they will be better or worse next year, alot of things could happen. a year is a lot of time, sophmores can grow ,get faster, more mature and stronger at that age.juniors will have experience under there belt.

This is a mediocre schedule for a struggling Amat team..This will not prepare BA for the pac5 playoffs...The truth is...there is only so much Jalen Moore can do..by the 8th week all teams fighting for a playoff spot will tighten up there defense & become masters of the run game..The only way to advance in the pac5 is to establish a sophisticated passing game..this has proven to be true the last couple of seasons just ask Long Beach Poly who mainly dominate there opponents by running the ball..In 2010 the elite teams in the pac5 featured QB's that were dual threats..Servite(cody pittman) Mission Viejo(tre madden) Alemany(vernon adams) each one of these QB's featured a rocket arm & could master the offense & lead the troops on any given friday...BA downfall will be "speed & size"...Amat will not feature anyone in 2011 that has breakaway speed that can post a deep threat or anyone with size that could run a deep post into the corner of the end zone & win a jump ball...this will be crucial!! I dont know how many times ive been to a pac5 game & seen this play done over & over especially down the stretch when your team needs a touchdown..Instead BA will run a conservative offense & try to beat you with short passes & bubble screens..look for Shay & Sanchez to do most of the laboring foot work on the short passes & Moore to come out of the backfield on crucial downs...the only thing that bothers me with this type of offense is that you become complacive & you quit taking chances down the field just like BA during the 2010 season..Look for RR to have a decent to a slightly above average season only because he wont have that deceptive breakaway speed at the WR position & im also predicting alot of dropped passes i just dont see some of these recievers cathing all the lazers that RR will throw especially on the slants or anything short down the middle...Im simply stating some constructive criticism...In no way or form would i ever disrespect the game of football or the kids for that manner.."TruthBtold" if you find this offensive or dont know anything about the game please dont respond!! I know this post will probbably generate alot of hits from BA faithfuls but im telling you like it is from a sports fanatic point of view who doesn't represent any team from CIF..

What Amat's 2011 schedule "should've" looked like

Week 0 Garfield
Week 1 @ St. Paul
Week 2 Charter Oak
Week 3 @ Servite
Week 4 West Covina
Week 5 @ Venice
Week 6 Alemany
Week 7 @ Crespi
Week 8 Loyola
Week 9 @ Notre Dame (SO)
Week 10 BYE

I can see why NOT playing Lakewood would make sense. It's a possible play-off match up in the first round and who wants to possibly play the same team in back to back weeks (if that is even possible)? I could see it if it were early in the season a la Servite but that late in the season doesn't make much sense. A good team like an Inland Powerhouse in week Ten would have been good...Upland, Los Osos, Murietta Valley, REV, Norco?

oldtimepiece said:

From what I heard Chino Hills, La Habra and St. Paul were all contacted for games last year for this years schedule and neither were interested. Also, Lakewood had a bye in week 10 and was disinterested in playing Amat. All would have been good games except for the slime.

Don, I can agree, when compared to the Southlands best or the mid-upper Pac five division, Venice most years would be average, but you have to admit that not many "average" teams can claim a win over Oaks Christian although it was a mediocre year for Oaks as they were 11 & 3. But if you add to that 2 wins over Loyola and 3 wins over Carson and also some close loses with those same two something tells me they can be right around the caliber of Loyola and Carson in any given year, not to bad.

Unreal,
Most likely that comment will go on deaf ears as Aram and Fred do continue to use that nation bs even though many including myself have tried to correct them on that matter.
Don,
Most of those games are because of the situation left by St Bonnies having to cancel the game with us last season . Not really bad for filling in late. After this season most of those game will be over and open up slots for those teams you are looking for on AMAT'S schedule. As for me I would much rather see Chino Hills instead of Damien . As far as the bye week we don't have much choice when it will fall based on a 5 team league . As this past season it was the week before our last league game , maybe next season it will be week 6 which means we might find an opponent with a bye that late in the season, also it's kind of hard to an opponent in weeks 7-10 with an open slot. As far as the slime I don't think that game would help AMAT one bit in regards to getting ready for league or playoffs.

Don said:

Dan,

Pardon my hyperbole, but I still think Venice is a very average program compared to the best of the Southern Section, even in Division 7; they might have beaten the Bulldoggies in '09, but you showed them who is boss this year. My point is playing Cathedral, Venice, Jordan, Garfield and Damien in the preseason doesn't serve Amat well in preparing them for Serra play and certainly not D 1 playoffs.

I think Amat deserves a non-league schedule with a top 25 National team and some mix of the best from the Inland, Northern, and Western Divisions along with one game from the best team in the Valley, (right now, that would be West Covina), and maybe one game to showcase an improving “related” program, a lesser private or maybe the ELA connection, but just one, not three.

Valley schools played some great fallsport this season but at the end of the day we have only one team playing D1, Bishop Amat. Far as I can tell, they are happy with nothing less than playing for #1; booking also rans won't get them there. Again, just my opinion

Fred,

Can you please stop referring to the Amat Alumni and Fan base as the "Amat Nation." We work hard at repairing a bad image that a few bad apples, who probably didn't graduate from Amat, give us.

As for the schedule, looks good to me but I would like to see St. Paul on the schedule in the future. Nothing like beating the slime....

Don, actually in this decade Venice has beaten Loyola twice, Carson three times, and even Oaks Christian 3 years ago. Last year they would have been better but they lost their feature running back for most of the season in the last minutes of the West Covina game. They still had a great passing game with three big fast recievers but lost the dual threat that the running back brought them, the kid was 5'11" 205, and in his first game of the season had 7 touchdowns and 290 yards, reminded me a lot of Adam Muema in size and style.

Don said:

IMHO, the schedule is too soft by half. Book EITHER Garfield or Cathedral, not both. Upgrade week 0 to a NAME school, maybe even out of state. I also don't get booking a potential playoff opponent in week 1 which is a better place to hook up a C O or a WesCo. And why play a second tier Pac5 team like Jordan anyhow? This is where you need to be playing The Slime dammit.

Nothing wrong with playing the Spartans, but Amat really needs a TOP D2 or D3 team here. Next is where I'd play EITHER the Garfield or Cathedral game, as is though, a second “Bootstrap” game is a waste. As far as that goes, following with Venice is another lost weekend, though they are one of the top City draws they haven't beaten anyone tougher than Loyola in over ten years, but what can you expect from a school whose mascot uses an oar. Better to book someone from the Foothill or Marmonte here

In my world, you would have your BYE here, lick your wounds and get ready for the Serra run. I think the Phantom, Bulldog, and Gondo deals are all up, only book ONE of these guys after this year. And always schedule St. Paul, even if you have to play Sunday after Mass in the St. John Vianney schoolyard.

Been there done that said:

Please ask the Almany officials to stay home.
We are tired of receiving all thoes penalties when we are near the goal line.

Fred, I like the way you "reposed" this thread and put it front and center !

I think if it were not for the holidays, and all the technical problems you've been having as of late, that you would have gotten a tremendous amount of hit's on this one here.

BTW, how many more day's till the first kick off anyway ?

Hey to Hater #1 You called yourself a what? big dawg. Obvious I can tell you are a looser and you call yourself a big dawg. You probably never played football or either played against Amat and got tossed up like a cesar salad douch bag. Weak is your mind. These schools make 2 or more years in contract. Plus, all these schools in preseason made the playoffs for the exception of Cathedral (Div.4) and Damien (Div.2). But as for the rest, Garfield made a pretty good run in the City Div.I (quarters) Servite obvious Pac 5 champions, LB Jordan (Pac 5 first round lost just like LB Poly first round lost) Venice (City Div.I Semi final lost to Crenshaw) Crespi (Pac 5 Second round lost to Servite) and Alemany (Pac 5 Semi final lost to Servite 28-21) Loyola slow start but very powerful who beat Valencia who made it to the semi final and lost to eventual CIF Div.3 Champions Oaks Christian who Alemany beat in there first game. Notre Dame always tough but rebuilding year.. So, what school are you from and you call yourself a big dawn.. Yeah, a big dawg still playing pop warner football wishing you played for Amat. Go figure? Wake up small fry and stop hating...

Hey Fred. Your Title is correct about 2011 schedule, but you made a simple mistake in your paragraph and said "but here's what you all want regardless, your 2010 football schedule", Fred it's 2011 football schedule, NOT 2010 football schedule..ejjeje Just checking you Freddy..

The thing I like most about this schedule is that Servite is not the first game of the year. That's going to go a long way in preping the Lancers for that big game.

Anyway, I am more than sure that no one in here can can honestly talk garbage about the Lancers especially if they were to win that game. But then again, knowing how things go on around here, they will most likely be rated at number two or so if in the end, they should happen to stumble along the way and not win the PAC 5.

Oh well....
