Breaking News: Diamond Bar alum Ryan Maine named new Brahmas football coach

Just a few days after John Martin announced his resignation as the Diamond Bar High School football coach, the Brahmas found a former champion to lead them. Former quarterback Ryan Maine, who was part of the Brahmas' back-to-back CIF-Southern Section Divisional championship teams in 1998 and '99, has been named the head football coach after serving as Martin's offensive coordinator since 2008. (To continue, click thread).

Maine played for legendary Brahmas coach Terry Roche and during his four years on varsity helped compile an overall record of 48-3.
Maine was a sophomore back-up to quarterback Don Sizemore during the 1998 title run and when Sizemore suffered an injury the following season, Maine led the Brahmas to their second consecutive title in 2009.
Sadly, Sizemore's injury cost him a scholarship to Nebraska. He later played at Mt. SAC, but was never the same.
"Those were some great years here," Maine said. "It's funny, I have my ten year reunion coming up and if you told me I was going to be the coach, I wouldn't of believed it. But I'm glad I'm back, being here is a dream job and I will try to instill the same things coach Roche taught us."
Maine graduated from Diamond Bar in 2001 and earned a scholarship to Sacramento State and later played at the University of San Diego under former coach Jim Harbaugh, now with Stanford.
Maine began as an assistant with Diamond Bar in 2007 and feels he knows what it takes to get the Brahmas back to a winning level.
"It's an attitude," Maine said. "You don't just win championships, it starts with hard work in January. That's what kids don't understand today. They love to talk, but the don't understand the work it takes to back it up."
Athletic director Kurt Davies was thrilled to promote Maine.
"We could not have found a better coach and role model for our student-athletes to be led by," Davies said. "Ryan is the perfect coach for the Brahmas. He not only understands our past, but also was an integral part of it. The future is definitely bright for Diamond Bar Football."
Martin resigned on Wednesday after four years and a 14-26 overall record. Martin will remain a teacher at the school.
"I appreciate John's dedication and commitment to our program and look forward to his service to our school and community in other arenas for many years to come," Brahmas principal Catherine Real wrote in a press release.

Have you noticed the other incarnations with the logo? They're a lot more of a mess.

I've to say that I agree together with the sentiments about getting AOL as variety one. The comments posted along facet it sum it up nicely, that it does almost nothing to strengthen the model, but only adds confusion.Out of the very best rebrands within the l ist, I'd put SyFy in the prime. In the beginning I hated the identify, since I thought they did it ??just simply because,??? when the fact is they had to change their identify on account of currently being unable to legally use Sci-fi.??? Now rather than coming up which has a whole new title that no one would know- and probably lose a great deal with the previously built in SciFi??? brand- they stuck using the outdated title using a bit of phrase play. I can still call SyFy Sci-fi when it arrives up, and that makes me content.

would you mind articulating a handful of individuals things you love?

Hmmm...LA football fans, does any of this sound familiar?
Your new coach is:
1) An Alumni
2) played QB
3) Won two CIF titles while at the school
4) Graduated in 2001
5) Served as the OC for two years under a veteran coach
6) No coaching search, just promote from within

Can anyone say FELIPE AGUILAR? Good luck Brahmas! Hope this experiment turns out better for you than it did for us!

Dan,
I remember that 5th down game. Fullerton. Penalty on 3rd. Declined. Next pass Maine incomplete but they never flipped the down markers. Tough loss for Upland but they paid them back next year.

Remember Diamond Bar football as a powerhouse. Was a Friday night football game each week. They were loaded with talent. Remember the Wrights, Robinson, Williams, Nicholson, Maine and many others. Best of luck to Maine and the Brahmas.

Even though the brahmas have struggled the past 7 or 8 years they presently have 4 players playing in the NFL. OG Ryan Wendell is a starter for the NE Patriots. S Bret Lockett is on the IR list. Jason Wright plays for the Arizona Cardinals as a backup rb and is on the specials teams. S Jon Amaya is in his first year with the Miami Dolphins.
If Diamond Bar can keep the local athletes from going out of district they can compete in the Hacienda League. In addition they need to atract some out of district players that want to resurrect a once great program.
Coach Ryan Maine should have some good skill osition talent returning next year and needs to finds some OL-DL players with size. Here's hoping they can find some veteran coaches to help out especially with the freshmen team. If would be great to see Coach Roche come back and coach the freshmen team.

I wish Ryan all the luck and success in the world! Couldnt ask for a better guy to fill the spot! I do think that Martin has provided that BIG step to move the Brahmas forward in Ryan's hands.

Those were Diamond Bars best years, saw Brian Maine lead the Brahmas to their title in 1999 in the controversial 5t down game against Upland, controversy or not it was a great game.
I believe that injury game for Don Sizemore was a Sierra league showdown game vs West Covina, I remember both teams were 6 & 0 and I was told later on that WC had prepared for the vaunted run attack of Diamond bars Wright brothers, they were shutting it down with success early in the game when the injury to Sizemore had happened.
Sizemore was a run oriented qb but Brian Maine was a very good passing qb. Well the rest is history as Maine passed all over West Co for a blow out win and didn't stop till Diamond Bar had their second straight division 2 title.
