Girls Basketball Rankings: Bonita on top with big games in the forecast; Duarte on the rise

CIF-SS Girls Basketball polls

GIRLS BASKETBALL
1. Bonita (13-1) -- Great games ahead for the 'Cats, including Friday's against Walnut and of course big league games against Diamond Ranch and a showdown against Amat on Jan. 22.
2. Bishop Amat (13-3) -- In the post state championship era, what makes Lancers coach Richard Wiard so great is they always win games they're supposed to, and spring a few upsets now and then.
3. Chino Hills (10-5) -- Is it me or is Chino Hills good or great in every sport? Makes you wonder why Glendora is in the Baseline and not the Huskies, doesn't it?
4. Duarte (11-1) -- Gonna make the Azusa high football prediction in that the Falcons won't lose another game until the postseason. Mark it down, they're starting 22-1.
5. Diamond Ranch (7-7) -- Yes their schedule is difficult, but seven losses this early in January is a big surprise, especially for a team as talented as this.
6. Walnut (11-5) -- Last week's loss to Diamond Ranch means the Mustangs probably won't do better than third in the Hacienda after dominating the San Antonio for so long.
7. St. Lucy's (9-5) -- Absolutely crushed Glendora last week, 63-42.
8. Wilson (9-6) -- The Valle Vista is welcome relief after finishing behind Diamond Ranch and Bonita in the old Miramonte League.
9. Sierra Vista (8-3) -- The Dons' dominance of the Montview may finally be coming to an end after getting blown out by Duarte, 66-38
10. West Covina (9-6) -- Let's face it, in a league with Diamond Ranch, Bonita and Walnut, the Bulldogs have an uphill battle.
