Girls signees: High-profile college sports such as football and basketball generate the most revenue and hand out the most scholarships, though earning an athletic scholarship of any kind is difficult. That’s why Wednesday wasn’t just a day to celebrate the football signees on national signing day across the country. It was also a day to recognize the hard work of track standouts such as Bishop Amat’s Kylie Price and San Dimas’ Katherine Salcido, both of whom were offered full athletic scholarships and signed to compete for the prestigious UCLA track and field team.

Football signing story: Chino Hills standout defensive back Ifo Ekpre-Olomu signed with Oregon while teammate Nate Harris chose Montana. “I envision actually playing on the field, but I can’t say right now whether I’m going to red-shirt,” Ekpre-Olomu said. “But I envision going to practices and playing with the best players in the nation. It’s a dream come true.”

And here’s where our area community college players will go. They include Mt. San Antonio Colleges’ Nick Lamaison, who prepped at South Hills, and Michael Edwards, who prepped at Glendora. Both signed with Texas-El Paso.
