If No. 3 Damien meets No. 5 Bonita in the Division 3A playoffs, is that the biggest game in La Verne history? And who wins?

It would be incredibly intriguing for the community, and for (Bonita) coach (Greg) Eckler and myself. It would be a really tough game to play. If it happened, hopefully it would be in the finals.” Damien coach Matt Dunn on possibility of meeting Bonita.

One of the intriguing possibilities in the 3A playoffs is a potential matchup between No. 3 Damien (22-3, 8-1) and neighboring Bonita (23-3, 11-0 Hacienda). Bonita is ranked fifth in 3A, has won 11 in a row and can finish unbeaten in league if it wins out this week.
Damien and Bonita haven’t met this season, but with only six losses between them a meeting in the playoffs would create one of the most exciting games in La Verne history.

“It would be incredibly intriguing for the community, and for (Bonita) coach (Greg) Eckler and myself,” Dunn said. “It would be a really tough game to play. If it happened, hopefully it would be in the finals.”

Dunn went on to give a quick preview of what might happen should they meet up.

“Because we’re so close, we know each other pretty well, even though we haven’t played,” Dunn said. “They do such a great job and it would be such a tough game to play. Hopefully when the pairings come out we’re on different sides of the bracket, because we would hate to face them anytime before the finals. That’s if we’re both fortunate enough to go on a (playoff) run.”
