Imagine if the basketball playoffs were set up like the football playoffs. The local schools could play each other and we would have a fish bowl playoff. But no, the local basketball teams actually have to play somebody unlike footballs divisions, when they don't even have to travel 20 minutes for a playoff game.

BB - more teams. more variables. teams from same league entering different divisions. more at-large teams. more moving parts. more chance for screw ups

The basketball playoff system always seems to be a lot more screwed up than the other CIF sports.

That Price team beat LV Lutheran a few weeks ago so good luck Nobles you are going to need it.

It isn't ridiculous at at all Red Barron, basketball is based strictly off enrollment, Chino Hills, Ayala, Damien etc are placed in those divisions based on the current number of students enrolled at the school, _ to _ students is 1AA and so on, unless you get moved up based of performance which is what LV Lutheran did.

Red Barron said:

How ridiculous is it that CHHS gets into the Div 1a brackets when the rest of the league is in 2a and the league winner is in 3a.

is this the same price that gives LV Lutheran fits every year?
if so Nogales has its hands full
(assuming it get past arroyo)

just my 2 cents >.<

DandC: It's pretty simple. There are no more minimum-win requirements to qualify for an at-large bid. Now CIF-SS wants every division to be a 32-team(5-round) bracket. The top four teams receive a bye, so it's obvious that there are only 28 teams in the division, so they all get in. In other divisions there are 35 or more teams, with say 25-26 automatic qualifiers, so that leaves room for six at-large spots, with nine teams vying for those spots. In that scenario, CIF-SS uses its selection criteria to fill out the bracket.

I don't really have an answer for you but we saw it last year in the girls bracket.

How does a 5-20 team with 2 league wins get into the tournament? Did West Covina's Football and Boy's Wrestling CIF Championships get them there? I love my Bulldogs, but this does not pass the smell test. Anybody 'splain this? Maybe just a reason to get kh back on the Bulldog hating train?

El Rancho doesn't deserve to be in there. We need to stop rewarding mediocrity.

Damien and Bonita next Tuesday with the winner playing Harvard Westlake on Friday Night, ouch rough break for them. Also La Verne Lutheran and Price in the semis Lutheran already lost to them and get their rematch before the Championship
