Boys Soccer: Ganesha holds on for 3-1 win over Bonita; Baldwin Park rallies, beats Lakewood 4-3 in sudden death OT; Glendora loses 1-0

Just got word that Baldwin Park scored twice in final ten minutes of regulation to force overtime, then won in suddent death, 4-3 .. Ganesha scored twice in the first six minutes and held on for a 3-1 win over Bonita ….La Puente lost a heartbreaker at home to top-seed Santa Monica, losing in a penalty shootout, 6-5, after a 1-1 tie in regulation and overtime. Also heard that Pomona lost in overtime at Cajon, 3-2. Glendora’s dream run in Division 1 ended in a 1-0 loss to Edison. Claremont scored a huge 2-1 victory over Valle View. Chino Hills couldn’t get anything going against La Habra, loses 2-0, and Diamond Ranch goes down 3-1 to Artesia.

There was never a feeling out process during Wednesday’s CIF-Southern Section Division 4 boys soccer quarterfinal between Ganesha and visiting Bonita, a match-up of the Montview and Hacienda League champions, respectively. The Giants made sure of that, scoring twice in the first six minutes, and again three minutes into the second half, which was too much for the Bearcats to overcome. (To continue, click thread)

Northview rough up: Gabe York scored 22 points and James Douglas had 19, and Orange Lutheran overwhelmed the host Vikings en route to a 78-57 victory in a Division 4AA quarterfinal.

Lutheran advances to meet Price: Fourth-seeded La Verne Lutheran High School had to come from behind to knock off No. 5 seed Corona del Mar, 53-49, in a CIF-Southern Section Division 3AA quarterfinal game at Chaffey College on Tuesday night.

Amat, Walnut season’s over: Bishop Amat High School’s boys basketball team saw its run end one win shy of reaching the semifinals for the second consecutive season, after a bad second half did in the Lancers in a 85-59 loss at Alemany in the CIF-Southern Section Division 4A quarterfinals Tuesday night.

The better the opponent, the more Maribel Duran feels she rises to the occasion. Just from her body language and the way she was fighting defenders on fifty-fifty balls, the junior wasn’t going to leave anything for chance, delivering a dominating performance with a hat-trick against fourth-seed Alverno in the second round of the CIF-Southern Section Division 6 girls soccer playoffs on Thursday. Not only did Maribel Duran score three goals, her freshman sister Daisy Duran scored the other, leading the Saints to a 4-1 victory and into the quarterfinals on Thursday, where the Saints (18-2-2) will be on the road against the Tahquitz-La Canada winner. Hoops coin flip results: Lutheran home against Price; Amat home against Bonita girls

Coin-flips to determine the home teams for the semifinal round of boys and girls basketball have been completed. However, in the semifinals teams are not allowed to play at their home venues, but are allowed to choose a site as close to their school as long as they can show it can accommodate a visiting crowd.
