Wrestling: Area's elite 8 punch tickets to Bakersfield by advancing to Masters semifinals; 17 others still alive for state bids

| | Comments (0) |

Friday, as far as area wrestlers were concerned, was a luke-warm day at the CIF-Southern Section Masters Meet.
Eight competitors, including those from the East and West San Gabriel Valley and the Whittier area, advanced to the semifinals of their respective weight classes, and have clinched spots for next weekend's CIF State Championships in Bakersfield. There are another 17 area wrestlers who are still alive to earn their state-meet bid. All must win fourth-round consolation matches Saturday morning to advance to next week. If they lose, they would drop into the ninth-place semifinals and would need to win two matches to advance.
