On Yahoo now: An Iowa high school wrestler who was one of the favorites to win his weight class defaulted on his first-round state tournament match rather than face one of the first girls to ever qualify for the event. "I have a tremendous amount of respect for Cassy and Megan and their accomplishments. However, wrestling is a combat sport and it can get violent at times," wrote Northup. "As a matter of conscience and my faith I do not believe that it is appropriate for a boy to engage a girl in this manner. It is unfortunate that I have been placed in a situation not seen in most other high school sports in Iowa."
It's hard to say.I see a lot of female cops taking down some big boys.Our society has changed and so have the rules.
He did the right thing! Our most homoerotic of sports should be practiced in an environment free of women.

Interesting point. He was probably raised that you don't hit women...and in this case you don't wrestle them.
I've seen some ridiculous wrestling...never played the sport...but would you really want a kid that is nationally ranked doing take downs a girl?
We have the luxury in California of having full fledged girls teams...and not too many schools field them but they exist. WC won it this year.
