And now it’s a reality for a select few, who’ll take their shot at glory at this weekend’s CIF State championships at Rabobank Arena in Bakersfield. The two-day tournament begins today at 9 a.m. with preliminary bouts, and concludes Saturday at 7 p.m. with the championship round. The area is well-represented with 18 competitors, including the big three of South Hills’ Vincent Herrera (119 pounds), Glendora’s Haydn Scharbrough (145) and Santa Fe’s Joey Davis (152). All three won CIF-Southern Section Masters titles last week and are solid contenders to score state titles and place among the top eight. Feature on South Hill’s Herrera and Glendora’s Scharbrough: South Hills High School’s Vincent Herrera and Glendora’s Haydn Scharbrough took nearly identical paths to today’s CIF State wrestling championships at Rabobank Arena in Bakersfield.
