Baseball/Softball Updates

Here’s the schedule and Monday’s scores from the Glendora and Bonita-Northview baseball and the San Dimas softball tournaments. I also have been reminded that there is a big softball game between South Hills and Bonita, slated for tonight at 5:30 p.m. at Mt. San Antonio College. That’s a game I would like to cover, but unfortunately it comes on a big basketball night. I’ll be at the Azusa Pacific-Concordia game, which is for the GSAC title, while Aram will be at the Bonita girls basketball game against Cathedral Catholic. We’ll get our spring coverage rolling on Wednesday, when I will cover the Charter Oak-San Marino game at the Glendora Tournament. The rest of the spring coverage for the week will be determined by how our basketball teams do tonight.

Southern California Pre-season Tournament presented by Dick’s Sporting Goods.

With 3 days of tournament fully completed, drama is building in POOL C as both South Hills and Alta Loma match up tomorrow at 4:00 PM in a battle of 2 & 0’s. South Hills rolls in with wins over Covina and West Covina and Alta Loma knocked off two big wins over the weekend to set the tone for tomorrow’s 4:00 meeting at Mt. Sac with the winner locking up the #1 seed in POOL C. Los Osos currently sits at 2-0 and is primed to come out of POOL D and face the winner of the South Hills/Alta Loma game on Thursday night at Bonita High School but anything can happen. Covina and West Covina will battle it out today at 3:15 at WC High School with the #3 & #4 seeds at stake.

Bonita currently holds down the #1 seed in POOL B with a 2-0 record and wins over Damien and Paloma Valley. Damien and Yucaipa sit tied at the #2 seed with records of 1-1 and one game left in their pools creating today’s epic matchup between Bonita and Yucaipa. A Bonita win will lock down the #1 seed for the Bearcats but the door is still open for Yucaipa High School as a win will leave both teams at 2-1 with Yucaipa holding the head to head advantage. Whew! Now throw Damien into the mix with a victory today and you will have a tournament scenario where three teams boast 2-1 records and they have all beat each other. Hello runs scored to break the tie.

Things have also heated up in POOL A as Rancho Cucamonga (1-1) faces Los Altos today (2-0) at Citrus College at 4PM . A Los Altos win will ensure the #1 seed for them but a win by Rancho Cucamonga and a win by Northview will definitely throw a wrench in everyone’s program. This scenario will create a 3 way tie for the #1 seed with Northview, Rancho Cucamonga, and Los Altos all sporting records of 2-1.

South Hills beat Bonita 12-2. Anyone have any comments.

    I have a comment

What can I say besides Fred’s ranking are ridiculous and Bonita is over-rated?!

  • easykiller

no doubt south hills was the better team beating bonita 12-2 but bonita playing six games in 4 days a ridiculous schedule this early in the season didn’t help the case. shfn overrated i think not give it a couple weeks remember last year they lost one early to glendora and came back strong. Like your team a couple of years ago, bonita has a freshmen pitcher who will look great at times and average at times everyone knows its a work in progress for her. Your pitcher is now what a junior she looked very good much better then years past good luck and hopefully we get another shot in the charter oak tourney.
