Baseball Rankings: Bishop Amat edges Bonita in a tight race for No. 1; Glendora surging

| | Comments (31) |

1. Bishop Amat ( 7-2) - Pitching doesn't look like a concern anymore, Lancers allowing just three runs in last four, and have won seven straight since opening 0-2. They're also No. 1 in D-4, and near the top of several Southland polls.
2. Bonita (7-2) -- I finally discovered junior pitcher Justin Garza, who is one of the big reasons the Bearcats are No. 1 in D-3. What impresses me though most is the mojo, I still believe the Bearcats are the best sports school, and that this might be the team that finishes the job come championship time.
3. Glendora (6-2) -- The Tartans' 3-0 start in the Baseline is mighty impressive considering every Baseline League team has an overall winning record.
4. Chino Hills (8-2) -- Already 3-0 in the Sierra win wins over Damien and South Hills, but can they hold on for the long haul? I'm not so sure.
5. Charter Oak (5-2) -- Four game win streak snapped in 6-5 loss to Damien, but it's early, Chargers will chase Sierra title to the end.
6. South Hills (5-3) -- Without steady pitching in the Sierra League you're asking for trouble. The Huskies have lots of talent, but not enough talent on the hill it appears.
7. Nogales (8-2) -- Suffered a loss to San Dimas, but otherwise still an impressive overall record.
8. Covina (7-3) -- The Colts are off to their best start in years, 3-0 in the Valle Vista with a chance to surge ahead against Nogales today.
9. San Dimas (6-4) -- Covina and Nogales might be the feel-good favorites in the Valle Vista, but my money's on the Saints when all is said and done.
10. Diamond Bar (4-5) - Pitchers Kenny Mathews and Henry Omana can only do so much. At some point, the Brahmas need to score runs.

Nonsense1995, Look Boy, you are a racist scumbag, plain and simple. You can try and change you're screen name and you can "try" to keep the Amat from spilling out of your mouth but the truth is that you are a scumbag. When will you bust out your famous anti-mexican racist ramblings, too early in the year for that? You are a dirtbag Boy. You can try to fool people with your lame ass put downs and "clap, clap like the yankees" school girl drivel but for those who know you, CLOWN...your SCUM! Just Go away! Change your screen name and try again. Your love affair with Bishop Amat is comical at this point but hey, for a CLOWN like yourself, that's probably the desired outcome, Kudos on that at least. And you're right, I don't read your post as a rule. However, when the sewer backs up and the sh"crap"-t is backing up in the yard you must address the situation. You have been addressed. Now go away, BOY!

The San Gabriel Valley Trib. is located in West Covina “The home of Champions’ it’s great you will be coming by to pay homage and watch us play ball with Humility and class.

You crack me up...You want Fred to recognize West Co as a Hacienda League favorite?? You want credit for "drubbing" Rowland?? You gotta be kidding me..You call Rowland a great team? A team that is 1-7..their only win against West Co...Rowland..a team that averages less than 2 runs a game.. Your baseball knowledge is suspect. Do the good people of West Covina High School a favor and shut up..

Blog Police,
It's springtime , the weather has been warm these past few days. That means all the snakes and rats, and all other low crawling insects and vermin will be climbing out from under their rocks for some sunshine, hence a showing from sgvsworst.

Fred, I was waiting to se how long you would go before mentioning our big win! We have to be looked at as a league favorite, we have more league wins than everyone else other than Diamond bar ad we are tied in wins with them!
Where’s the reporting about our impressive drubbing over Rowland? We beat the crap out of a really good team there! And , yes, they were happy to kneel down and “Kiss the Ring” I just hope we don’t look past that disappointing little Los Altos team before our showdown with Bonita where we will be chanting, “Bulldog Fever”, Yeah, we have a real can of “whoop ass” waiting for the kittens! And we will be running up the score!!!! Is there a mercy rule in high school baseball? I hope Knott!
I don’t like the way you guys are picking on that pitcher at Bonita, if he were healthy enough to play, he would! Hang in there kid, good luck and get well soon, we want your best!
We win with class and humility always.
Bulldog Fever….

JS from the BishopNation...Lowly Division 4!

This is the same dumb a$$ that also reminds all of the SGV what a wonderfully OVER RATED Football team they have because they get listed on Maxpreps, ESPN, LA Times, Wall Street Journal, the New England Journal of Medicine, etc, etc, etc...only to get their A$$ handed to them in the 1st round of the CIF Playoffs...!

Damien gets the win vs Ayala. Bubba Schlarman comes up with a grand slam to seal the deal in the 6th. As usual, Antonio Gonzalez pitched well. He went 6 innings and gave up two hits. The Spartan bats struggled in the first four innings, but finally came through. The Spartans are getting better every game. Go Spartans.

Kh Speaks the Truth said:

It was actually 1 run against Claremont!

But CO does have the best overall staff in the area. Just wait till they get Travis Santiago back in the rotation.

It'll be even better next year too!

Ro said:

Rankings do not matter the way C.I.F is set up. any team can have a bad day and be knocked out of C.I.F playoffs, any unranked team can get a hot streak and win a championship.

Kh said:

WOW. Charter Oak beating Chino Hills. Told you CO playing good baseball. They have close to if not the best pitching staff in the league from the games i have seen of them and around the league. Montenegro, this kid is getting it done. Shut out Chino Hills and held Claremont to 2. Looks like CO regaining its strength in the run for the title.

In CBL play Redlands defeated Yucaipa 6-4 to remain in first place. Redlands and Yucaipa both rated in the top 10 of D2 polls. Redlands starts 6 sophs and 1 junior.

Hey Fred, how bout Duarte? They are 5-3!

Everybody loves a list, just like everyone loves a parade. Great entertainment, especially for those folks with short attention spans. Don't like the view now, just wait a bit, it'll change.

Don't agree with the rankings from the CIF-SS voters? No problem, wait for the Trib's list, or even a Trib blogger. Heck, try the Times or even those other guys up the dial who Fred doesn't think are valid. There is bound to be a list you can get down with. If not, make your own. It will have just as much validity

Fact is, all of those lists are made-up by people with their own axes to grind; voters who are uninformed, absent, ambivalent, or just trying to generate, (or reduce), attention for a particular school (or league). They are, as the man says, what they are. Always have been, always will be.

As for the “Big Game”, it won't have anything to do with teams from the Hacienda or Del Rey this year. Those races, while not totally locks, are nowhere near as competitive as the Sierra or even the VV. The “Big Game” is one that moves a team toward a season's goals and unless “Blog Bragging Rights” has suddenly become one, the BoHi – Amat contest will be a fun one to watch, no more, no less.

JS said:

Bonita is 7-2 and according to popular opinion, the second best, could be first, team in the SGV. I ask you this, who have they beaten of note? They lost to LB Poly and Yuciapa and wins over fellow fish bowlers S.D. and D.B. don't impress me too much. Sure Amat is in lowly division 4 but they play some pretty good teams on their way through their "easy" schedule. I sure would like to see some of our local schools play the schedule Amat plays, then we would have a pretty good idea of who is who ad what is what. Regardless, good luck to all....

Damien should be ranked ahead of So Hills and CO.
