Softball: Charter Oak pounds way into tournament semifinals, which take place Friday

| | Comments (12) |

The final round robin games in the Charter Oak tournament at Big League Dreams in West Covina are today with semifinal games set for Friday at 3:30 p.m., and the championship on Saturday at 3 p.m. I will post the semifinal schedule tonight, but the Chargers already have punched their ticket.

Charter Oak wins: Charter Oak must love the Big League Dreams facilities in West Covina, where the Chargers are hosting their annual high school softball tournament. Not only are the fields enormous and wide open, the slick manicured outfields favor anything in the gaps, which the Chargers took full advantage of Tuesday. Inside-the-park home runs from Charter Oak's Samantha Valadez, Monique Villasenor, Cassie Andrews and Jayme Chessler led to a 17-4 victory over La Salle, helping the Chargers improve to 6-2 overall and 2-0 in the tournament after a 6-1 win over Covina on Monday.

Home runs,
Don't mistake lack of fence location for lack of pitch location. Hit your spots and trust your defense.

Get over yourself. You've been calling out SD for their stats for two years. Start keeping your own book, Funsucker.

Come on, seriously? SD will never put up fences because it would affect their inflated stats, unless they can put up a 150ft right field fence like the CHS field.

If San Dimas would put fences up the out come of that tourney would have been different as well.No fences give high school ball the old rec ball feel.

I know, their soccer is all turf, but the softball fields are grass. Got it confused because they were mowed so good and looked so green I thought they were artificial. In any case, they were still pretty slick and are so properly maintained that it does turn ordinary doubles into inside-the-park jobs. BTW, it's not almost laughable, it's laughable how much I enjoy you calling me out...I think it's great.

great reporting Fred, not! BLD does not have artificial surfaces in the outfield as you wrote last night and published on this website, have you ever been on those fields? or just sit in the bar, looking for the infamous libero? lol it's almost laughable how little you know

how bout some outfielders to cut off those shots to the gap?

i couldn't agree more said:

So true, it is not fair to the pitchers they need to put a fence up. If there was a fence those homeruns would be doubles maybe a triple but not a homerun.

I couldn't agree more on the fence issue....not only is it demoralizing to the pitcher that is getting hit, when a fence would keep the game more competitive.

St. Lucy's won this tournament last year, why are they not playing in it this year?

home runs? said:

I don't understand why WC Big League Dreams does not install the 200' removable fences for softball. By not doing so, singles and doubles turn into home runs, especially on those slick fields. Kind of silly to call those hits homers, but they technically are.
