Sunday Tribbin: Not goodbye, it's see you later

| | Comments (8) |

It's my turn to take one of those mandatory vacations you have to take, so I'm gone for a week and leaving Stevie R., and Aram in charge of all things, including the blog. The CIF State boys and girls basketball, and girls and boys soccer pairings will be released today on the state website. Steve Ramirez will post the pairings later, and will update most scores, including baseball, softball tournaments and schedules on the blog. In soccer, Baldwin Park (boys), San Dimas (girls) and Bishop Amat (girls) are all locks for the state tourney, and you might even see Amat face San Dimas in the D-2 playoffs. In girls baketball, I'm hearing that Diamond Ranch, Bishop Amat and Bonita will all make it, though not as confident about La Veren Lutheran and Bonita boys, but we shall find out. See ya in a week.

STATS: Just created a MaxPreps made easy widget for area baseball fans which I will post throughout the season. Now if baseball coaches update rosters, stats and schedules, this widget will be golden, and if there is enough participation, I will run leaders each week in the Tribune. As it is, very few teams are updating scores or providing rosters, not to mention stats, which makes it very hard to follow your local teams, especially when we have more than 35 in the area. I can't do it alone, if you want to see your team stats updated in the paper, start with your head baseball coach before you send emails my way. Stats and information has become so secretive not even Amat has a baseball roster posted yet.

Wow - looks like LVL is in! Congrats. They and Palm Springs (unexpectedly) get in over Damien and Alemany.

Always some on the bubble. Good luck to SoCal

Fred,

Have a great VACA. I assume you're golfing at least one day.

If you ever want to throw a golf tourney and need help, I'M IN!

Fred,

I'm afraid you're right. LVL lags in many of the criteria CIF uses to decide who goes to State

(a) Head to head competition of teams under consideration
(b) Strength against common Southern Section opponents
(c) Southern Section Divisional Placement i.e., Division I recognized as most difficult
(d) Success in Southern Section tournaments
(e) Strength against statewide opponents
(f) Strength of schedule
(g) Overall win/loss record
(h) Strength at end of season
(i) State-wide and/or Southern Section rankings

The one advantage they have is they and Crespi have a common opponent in Corona Del Mar, who LVL beat and Crespi lost to. Other than that - it's not looking good.

I hear that either Damien or Lutheran will get an at-large, but probably not both.

Fred,

Damien lost four games this season. Two of them to CIF Champs Westlake/Harvard & Gahr. They also lost to Mission Viejo which lost in there final. What are your thoughts of them making state?

Somebody better be at the South Hills/ Bonita game on Tuesday at Mt. SAC at 6 PM.
