Softball: Diamond Bar stuns Bonita, 4-3

Diamond Bar’s softball team stayed in the Hacienda League title chase with a 4-3 victory over Bonita on Wednesday, handing a rare loss to the CIF-Southern Section Division 2s top-ranked team. Brahmas pitcher Dani Wilson belted a two-run double in the first inning and kept it going in the cirlcle to hand the Bearcats (18-3, 6-1) their first league loss. Aubrey Horita and Lizzy McCabe each were 2 for 2 for the Brahmas (11-9, 6-2), who remain just a half game out of first place.

Bonita shortstop Courtney Gano had another big game, going 4 for 4 with two runs scored, but it wasn’t enough.

Bonita’s loss also helped West Covina (13-6, 5-1), now tied with Bonita in the loss column.
Los Altos (11-5, 4-3) sits in fourth, but the Conquerors are ranked No. 7 in Division 2 and will face Bonita at its place on Friday at 3:30 p.m., in hopes of tightening up the league race even more.

Bonita and West Covina will meet for the final time at Bonita on Friday, May 6 in what could decide the league title. Bonita beat West Covina 8-5 on the road in the first meeting.
