Amat Baseball and Football camps

The Bishop Amat High School baseball team and head coach Andy Nieto have created the “Sandlot Series,” for boys and girls ages five through 10 – with the first of four Sandlot camps beginning Thursday at Bishop Amat and continuing each Thursday for three consecutive weeks. What’s unique is the clinic is free, and each kid in attendance will receive a free shirt and hot dog. The Sandlot will include instruction from Bishop Amat varsity players and its coaching staff, and actual games for kids. Each Thursday the clinic will be held at Bishop Amat from 6 to 7:30 p.m.
“Everyone has a camp,” Nieto said. “But how often to you have the opportunity to take your kids to an open facility and receive free instruction. We have been wanting to this for a while. A lot of kids know who (players) Jay Anderson, Wallace Gonzalez and Rio Ruiz are, but for them to have the opportunity to meet them and be among some of the area’s best local players is a great experience. It’s great for our players to work with kids and maybe be a mentor. That’s what it’s all about.”
