Baseball: South Hills tied for first in Sierra; San Dimas stays game ahead of Covina in VVL

Tuesday’s Sierra League results: Charter Oak’s Aaron Henry drove in the game-winning run that allowed the Chargers to beat Chino Hills 5-4 in eight innings to stay in playoff contention while dropping the Huskies to 9-3 in league. With South Hills beating Claremont 5-2, South Hills (9-3) is tied with Chino Hills for first with three to play. With Damien beating Ayala 9-3, they go to 7-5 in league, leaving them in sole possession of third and a game ahead of fourth-place Charter Oak (6-6). The same teams will play again on Thursday.

Tuesday’s Valle Vista results: San Dimas crushed Northview 12-2 in six innings to improve to 9-1 in league, with Covina staying close, beating Baldwin Park 10-3 to go to 8-2, just a game back. Baldwin Park and Northview are still tied for third, but well back at 4-5. Covina and San Dimas meet in the league finale on May 10.
