Baseball/Softball recap and schedule: Charter Oak baseball blows huge lead against Chino Hills; Glendora softball loses fourth straight in Baseline; Softball: Bonita-West Covina II this afternoon

Today: We’ve got today and a week left of baseball and softball until playoffs. The most intriguing on the schedule this afternoon is West Covina softball at Bonita for first in the Hacienda, which is where we will be.

Thursday’s Sierra League Baseball: Damien beat Ayala 8-6 behind senior Griffin Lord and sophomore Chad Hawkins, who each had two hits and two RBIs for the Spartans (13-11, 8-5) over Ayala (10-12, 2-11). Chino Hills’ Ameron Pongs hit a grand slam with two outs in a five-run seventh that helped the Huskies beat Charter Oak 7-6, and also keep Chino Hills (15-8, 10-3) tied for first with South Hills (18-4, 10-3), an 8-0 winner over Claremont. Charter Oak’s (10-11, 6-7) collapse in the seventh means it will not make the playoffs.

Thursday’s Sierra League Softball update: Chino Hills beat Charter Oak 9-7 and South Hills beat Claremont 10-7, giving Chino Hills (19-5, 10-2) a half game lead over South Hills (16-6, 10-3) with one week left. In the battle for sole possession of third, Ayala clipped St. Lucy’s 6-5. Ayala is 10-11 and 7-6 while St. Lucy’s dropped to 11-12 and 6-7.

Thursday’s Baseline League softball: Glendora lost its fourth straight and it wasn’t pretty, losing 18-4 to Rancho Cucamonga to effectively end its playoff chances.

  • what happened

As the saying goes………..Choke Charter Oak….but it looks liked they did the choking to themselves.

  • Cinco de Choko

St Lucy’s blew it against a weak Ayala team, Numerous opportunities to win and the coach holds them back again? Bases loaded in 7th inning batter majorly chokes and that’s all she wrote, They had it but again were out-coached by a mediocre Ayala Team.

Dudes WC’s gonna choke against Bonita, Bonita is good when they do their thing, West Covina has wreck ball pitching at best and will lose horribly this round. Don’t get a big head, your leagues weak and Bonita is the only real team in it.

  • Homeless Ron

Looks like Glendora replaces Claremont as the Baseline League punching bag! Friggin great! Enjoy!

  • umm…Ron?

    hey Ron,

looks like Glendora is only struggling at softball. What i hear is coaching not talent. Baseline league is one of the toughest leagues around. in a few years Glendora in every sport will be towards the top of the league. and top in the SGV.

  • Softball 121

Glendora will be fine next year they have seniors Taylor Langdon,Brandy Wilson.and Kendra Alfonso coming back

  • Aaron

Where’s Bulldog1…Bonita mopped the floor with the Bulldogs winning 20-4.

  • WC WHO?

Bonita Freshman team would kick the crap out of WC Varsity.

    Bulldogs SUCK!

  • Humility

Yeah – where’s Bulldog1. After all those “kiss the ring” comments you would think the “class and humility” king would be the first to congratulate the Bearcats on a well played game. After tearing down the, as he called them hefty Glendora players, Bulldog1 should have looked around and noticed that the West Covina players and parents are pretty hefty themselves. The metal bleachers on the WC side looked they were going to collapse from all that “heftiness” – and all that weight was not coming from “the rings”.

  • Huh ?

    Softball 121,
Are you serious ? Glendora will NOT be fine next year unless someone corrects the “Angel Attitudes” on the team. Don’t be so sure all the players will be back (other that asst coach daughter). Maybe most of the freshman who “carried the team” will return but how many others will ? How many players were at practice after the Rancho debacle ? How many players want to return next year to be subjected to “here’s how we do it on the Angels” over and over again ? With Langdon back how do you know that whenever there is a good hitting opponent that the “mystery injuries” won’t crop up again like they did this year. Picking the spots where she will be willing to pitch (games that won’t hurt her statistics or embarass her with other Angels) will be more difficult when she really is the ace of the staff.

  • Thor

I guess shitzu#1 has gone missing after blowout number two from the puddycats, karma sucks right about now.

  • Humility

Did you really expect something from BSdog1 after that game. Class and humility must be taking a break. Or maybe he looked up humility and figured out what an idiot he is. I think he is under a table thinking there was an earthquake right after the game – which was really just the earth moving when all the hefties from WC came down out of the bleachers.

  • Thor

From what i have heard he can walk under a table without crouching.

  • Bulldog1

The more Bulldog games we play the better!
We win with class and humility always.
Everyone loves a winner and loves to watch us play.
    Bulldog Fever.

  • Humility

Your team put up a good fight but they were nonetheless outplayed. Can’t get too far if you can’t put a run across with bases full and nobody out late in a key game. What I don’t get is why you weren’t there parading around with the ring for everybody to kiss. And by the way after all your comments regarding the hefty Glendora team team did you happen to look at the extreme heftiness of your team and their parents – now THAT is HEFTY. Thought the bleachers were going to collapse.
