Bishop Amat's Rio Ruiz and South Hills' C.J. Saylor, two of the area's top baseball players, have been selected to compete in the AFLAC All-American Classic. The announcement was made Monday at Petco Park in San Diego before the Padres-Rockies game. The All-Star game is scheduled for later this summer in San Diego.
Ruiz helped Bishop Amat win the school's eighth CIF-Southern Section title. He hit a key double in a 5-4 victory over Torrance in last Tuesday's semifinals and a home run in the Lancers' 7-0 victory over Palm Desert in the championship game on Friday.
Saylor has been a key cog for South Hills the past two years and helped the Huskies earn a share of the Sierra League title this past season.
Ruiz and Saylor are familiar with each other, having played on youth ball teams since they were 3 years old. They also are members of the San Gabriel Arsenal travel ball team.
Tyler France, Saylor's teammate at South Hills, is expected to be added to the team later this month.

SGVfootball,

The All American game is for 2012 players. They select what they feel are the top 36 2012 players in the country. The running back has no regrets about not playing football. It is old news now. He received a rather large scholarship to play baseball at Nevada Reno.

First and foremost congratulations on these two young men soon to be 3 young men...

Looking back 1 year and having to read all the comments about a certain running back for the Lancers leaving football to focus on baseball and to not make this team makes me wonder why as a family they chose to leave the football program at Amat. I only assumed that he was a lock for this game and any other type all star games. I think he would have earned a scholarship in football if he would have stuck it out.

I can’t tell you how exciting this game was to watch. Bishop Amat was truly the better team, even with all the distractions with Steve Gravey's son Ryan Gravey Bishop Amat looked like they have always played there at the Dodgers Stadium. Way to Go Bishop Amat.

Watch Rio Ruiz GREAT Home Run like no other view in the stadium and his teammates get 21 outs to win the DIV. 4 Championship.

Incredible Achievements for both of you. CONGRATULATIONS.
Two of the most humble, well grounded young men you'll ever have the chance of meeting. I know their families are so proud. Been a pleasure watching both of you grow as players and young men.
