Breaking News: Sometime in August, this blog will serve as the SGVN blog for the Tribune, Star-News and Whittier

Changes are coming. Sometime next month this blog will also serve as the prep blog for the Pasadena Star-News and Whittier Daily News, making one giant SGVN blog along with the Tribune. With Steve Ramirez taking over in Whittier and Miguel Melendez at the Star-News and so many of our teams and leagues crossing over and our commenters crossing over, we believe this is the time to create one of the best high school prep blogs in Southern California. More topics, more video, more interaction, more everything. Steve Ramirez and Miguel Melendez will serve as key contributors for Whittier and Pasadena, and I will focus on the Tribune and serve as the main moderator. with the three of us posting regularly this blog will be as lively as ever. Steve, Miguel and I will also weigh in with opinions on teams not in our coverage area and discuss match-ups of teams between our zones, etc, etc. That’s what this blog is for, news and opinions, and now you will have more. What it will create is one giant all-encompassing prep sports blog, plus Aram’s all-encompassing football blog for the SGVN. Each zone will post their own football rankings on Tuesday’s, and there will be one giant Saturday Morning Quarterback with all the football scores on Friday night. Once it gets going, you’re going to love it, especially in the playoffs when SGVN teams go at each other in the Mid-Valley and Southeast playoffs. As your main moderator, I will make sure news from all zones is posted regularly, but not in a way where it looks cluttered. We know the blog comment interaction is what makes this blog unique. The last thing I want to do is clutter this blog with topic after topic and lose that, so I’m prepared to post in a way that won’t happen, but also deliver the news, breaking news and updated scores from your area. For those wondering, the Pasadena blog and Whittier blog will be archived so you can look back on what was written previously. When I get a firm date on when this is happening, I will let you know. If you have any questions or concerns, I’m here to answer them.

  • won’t see a difference in blog traffic

You probably won’t see any increase in traffic, no one really blogs on Miguel’s site and I didn’t even know that Whittier Daily News had a blog.

Sounds like GREAT TIMES ahead of us. Best of luck Fred!!

  • reality

I always thought this was 1 giant SGVL blog. The other trib blogs were pretty much over. Now, how bout some news???????

  • FredJ

Reality, news is coming, let us prep guys have some vacation days, the season is long, we’re finishing our magazine and will be ready for August when most camps start. Plus, prep sports are pretty dead in late July. On to the subject, one giant blog is what we need, at the end of the day, whether it’s west side or east side, we’re all in the San Gabriel Valley — lets blow it up and have some fun.

  • Amused Reader

And exactly what valley is Chino Hills, Upland and Damien? Oh yeah, the Inland valley. Why do you cover them?

  • Whittier Area Fan

    Fred:

What happened to Campa? Hope you guys don’t shortchange us Whittier Area fans.

  • Frank

About time, I’ve always argued that this blog should include the whole SGV, not the east of the 605 half. You can’t do a top ten in the valley and leave out schools on the west side. There are times when teams are in the top ten that are a joke. Now a top ten will mean something.
    Plus the other blogs suck!
Why is Whittier part of this? Nobody includes them in the SGV.

  • LA Futbol

This sounds awesome for the major sports like Football, Baseball and Basketball. I just hope it doesn’t hurt the coverage of the smaller, fringe sports like soccer, water polo, etc. Make sure it doesn’t get too big to fulfill the goal of recognizing kids!

  • SGV FOOTBALL

    Fred,

This is great news, and we get to keep Aram’s blog! Mark my words eventually the Tribune will become the premier site for prep fans. No more La Times Varsity Insider…

    Amused Reader,

Isn’t Damien located between San Dimas and Bonita?

  • Colt74

It’s been long overdue! Steve and Miguel always have some good input and now we can have all four of you guys hashing it out in the two minute drills! It’s a win-win situation for all.

  • Amused Reader

Damien and Bonita are in La Verne, which is not part of the San Gabriel Valley.

La Verne is not considered San Gabriel Valley?
    Disagree.

Ok, San Gabriel Valley and surrounding communities….all part of SGVN..

  • Steve Ramirez

Amused Reader: Damien and Bonita have been part of the area for as long as I can remember. I have an old clip file in my desk that is from the early 1970s and Damien and Bonita are in it. The area was much bigger back then. From the clips, I can tell we went as far east as La Verne and covered into Temple City and Alhambra on the West side.
